Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Highlights And Cricket Score 2nd Match - Test Commentary
Sri Lanka lost Karunaratne early but Kusal Mendis' counter-attacking 68 meant that they had the runs flowing. At 110/6, Roshen Silva took the honours and stitched two valuable stands - first with Dilruwan Perera which was worth 52 and then with Akila Dananjaya of 43. The visitors managed to recover from such a position otherwise they could have faced even more embarrassment. So, on such a dustbowl, every run matters. They have the quality spinners in their ranks who can inflict the damage. Is the score that the Lankans have got enough? Out walk the Bangla openers Tamim and Kayes for their reply...
So, Bangladesh have wrapped the Lankans up for a scanty total. Their spinners have made merry on a surface that has a lot in it for them. It was the comeback man, Abdur Razzak at first who broke the top order, picking up a 4-fer, while Taijul Islam then with his consistent lines and lengths ended with a 4-fer too. Amidst the spinners running riot, Mustafizur Rahman too chipped in with three wickets and overall it was a collective effort from the hosts' bowlers to restrict the Lankan lions.
Taijul Islam to Roshen Silva. OUT! Gloved it! Taijul Islam ends up with a 4-fer! He tosses it up outside off, at 79.7 kph, Roshen Silva presses forward to defend but there is a bit of extra bounce which takes the gloves and settles into the mitts of Liton Das. A good take from the keeper and Silva doesn't even wait. He knew he has edged it straightaway. SRI LANKA ARE BOWLED OUT FOR 222!
Taijul Islam to Suranga Lakmal. Flatter again, angling in, Lakmal wrists it through mid-wicket. Rahim gives it a long chase and stops the ball inside the rope. They take three. The stand moves to 15 from 37.

Rangana Herath is the new man in and will face the first ball of the final session. Mustafizur Rahman will continue his pending over. Let's play...
... Day 1, Session 3 ...
The debutant then walked in and looked really confident. He too offered a good hand to the set Silva and another stand started to motor along before Mustafizur Rahman took one just at the stroke of tea. Sri Lanka have done well to cross the 200-run mark and with Silva still there, his side would hope the runs to come by. Whereas, the home side will be looking to scalp out the remaining two wickets quickly. Will they be able to do so? Join us back in just a bit for the final session...
With the wicket of Akila Dananjaya, the umpires have decided to take TEA. A good session for both the sides. Bangladesh removed Kusal Mendis on the very second ball after lunch and Dickwella couldn't last long either. At 110/6, it seemed like the hosts will run through the batting line-up but no... Together they added 52 before Taijul dismissed the former.

Mustafizur Rahman to Akila Dananjaya. FOUR LEG BYES! What a delivery from the Fizz! He has cut the batsman into two halves! Bowls a pacy cutter, which grips and puts the southpaw in a tangle. He floats it up on the stumps, Perera lunges forward to defend but seems to have missed it. They all appeal and the umpire rules it out. Perera starts to walk back but then he is stopped by his partner and they opt to take the DRS. At first it seemed like he has been adjudged LBW but then the first replay suggests that there is a clear inside edge. It hits the pads and lobs towards silly point where Mominul Haque takes a simple catch. End of a good knock from Dilruwan but one would wonder why did he take the review when he knew he had hit that. It is currently worth 49, of which Dilruwan has made 30. Perera did give a chance on 18, only for Sabbir to spill it. Taijul Islam to Roshen Silva. The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
Taijul Islam to Roshen Silva. Down the leg side, Roshen misses his flick.
Taijul Islam to Roshen Silva. FOUR! A rank bad ball, short and outside off, Silva goes back and punches it through the covers for a boundary!
Taijul Islam to Dilruwan Perera. Pushes this through mid on for a single.
Taijul Islam to Dilruwan Perera. Full and around off, watchfully defended.
Dilruwan Perera walks in at number 8, replacing Dickwella.
Taijul Islam to Niroshan Dickwella. OUT! That stays low and Dickwella has to go! This is just the 33rd over of the match and already the ball has started to keep low. Nothing Niroshan could do here. The ball was landed a tad short of full and Dickwella went back to defend. But the ball stayed low, went beneath the bat and hit the stumps. Poor lad. Taijul won't mind though.
Taijul Islam to bowl from the other end.
Abdur Razzak to Roshen Silva. The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground. Beautiful bowling and what a start from Bangladesh after the break.
Abdur Razzak to Roshen Silva. Very full around middle and off, Silva blocks it out.
Abdur Razzak to Niroshan Dickwella. Dickwella comes down the track and works it off the inner half through square leg to get off the mark.
Abdur Razzak to Niroshan Dickwella. Around middle and off, blocked off the front foot.
Niroshan Dickwella is the new man in.
Abdur Razzak to Kusal Mendis. OUT! Gone very next ball! This is beauty of a delivery from Razzak. Similar to the one on which he removed Chandimal. Razzak pitches it around middle and leg and it drifts away just a touch. Kusal Mendis lunges forward to defend and is beaten all ends up. The ball goes onto disturb the woodwork. Superb from Abdur and Sri Lanka now have lost half their side. The only one who looked comfortable has to walk back. Can Bangladesh restrict SL under 150?
Abdur Razzak to Kusal Mendis. FOUR! A loosener to begin with! Razza bowls a half-tracker on middle, Mendis in such form isn't missing out on those. Goes back in a jiffy and pulls it through mid-wicket for a boundary to start the session.
We are back for the second session. It will be a task for the batsmen on this dust-bowl. Kusal Mendis holds the key for the Lankans if they are to post a good score or else, Bangladesh spinners will run through the remaining batting line-up. Abdur Razzak will continue his spell. A slip, leg slip, short leg and silly point in place. Let's play...
... Day 1, Session 2 ...
What did Mahmudullah say to his group around the Drinks break? Whatever he said, worked wonders. 61/1 in 16 overs before that huddle - 44/3 in 15 since then. The home side has been inconsistent with its lengths but it will believe that a couple of wickets and the bowlers will come out to bat. Only 3 overs to pace so far, hence the excellent over rate. Join us back at 1210 local (0610 GMT).
Amidst the crests and troughs, Kusal Mendis has been standing tall for Sri Lanka. He seems to have read the pitch well and is playing brilliantly on 64. Sri Lanka will believe that prodding is definitely not the way to go on this pitch and we might see more counter-attacking post Lunch.
The saying goes that it takes one ball to change things and exactly that happened. Dhananjaya de Silva got consumed by the extra bounce while Danushka Gunathilaka, never looking settled, threw his wicket away. And then, Razzak got the big fish in Dinesh Chandimal for a duck.
Great comeback from Bangladesh in the opening session. After being asked to bowl, spin made an early impression but the counter-attacking stand from Kusal Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva pegged the hosts back. The sweeps and slog sweeps started to induce shorter lengths from the spinners and it seemed like Sri Lanka were in full control. So much so, that our colleague, Mandy, predicted, 900-plus is on the cards. But then...
Taijul Islam to Roshen Silva. Another one goes past the outside edge. This is around off, Silva gets across to defend but still misses the ball. LUNCH ON DAY 1!
Taijul Islam to Roshen Silva. Full and around off, watchfully defended.
Taijul Islam to Roshen Silva. This is a play and a miss. The length is fuller and the line is around off. RS lunges to defend but the ball spins and whizzes away.
Taijul Islam to Roshen Silva. The batsman has worked it off his pads behind square. Two runs added to the total.
Taijul Islam to Roshen Silva. Landed outside off, Roshen keeps his bat behind the pad but the ball lands on the rough, then spins away past the off stump. But Silva was well aware of that turn.

Abdur Razzak to Roshen Silva. Full and outside off, watchfully defended.
Taijul Islam to Roshen Silva. Punched off the back foot by the batsman. The batsmen have run through for a single.
Taijul Islam to Roshen Silva. Roshen can continue batting. One replay is enough to indicate that this can be given out only in my locality where we use the one-bounce catch as a dismissal to escape from enduring the boredom of watching a batsman bat for a long time. Tossed up outside off, this time Silva does not come forward. He stays back but there is extra bounce on the ball which catches him by surprise. He loosely hangs his bat and gets an outside edge. Sabbir Rahman dives to his left from first slip but shakes his head as soon as he takes the catch. Says that he is not sure, when asked by the umpires too. Bangladesh persist with the appeal and umpire Tucker signals to the third umpire that he thinks that it is not out. Of course, the first replay shows that the ball has bounced.
Howzzat? Gone? Sabbir Rahman straightaway says no but Bangladesh appeal for a catch. Now the umpire questions Sabbir who shakes his head, saying he doesn't know. Referred upstairs, the soft signal being NOT OUT.
Taijul Islam to Roshen Silva. Punched off the back foot by the batsman.
Mahmudullah moves from cover to second slip now. Good attacking captaincy. 5-fer for Bangladesh before Lunch?
Taijul Islam to Roshen Silva. Well bowled. The length is full and immediately the batsman is forward. He looks to defend but the ball spins past the outside edge.

Abdur Razzak to Roshen Silva. Quicker one, outside off, punched hard but straight into the shin of silly point.
Abdur Razzak to Roshen Silva. On middle and off, watchfully defended.
Abdur Razzak to Roshen Silva. Not a great hat-trick ball, outside off, punched to the off side.
He was in his training jersey around 45 minutes back, sitting in the dugout, not even in the dressing room. But he has walked out in his whites now, at number 6 to replace his skipper. Roshen Silva is the new man in.
Abdur Razzak to Dinesh Chandimal. OUT! Ho ho ho! One brings another and Chandimal is out of here! All that glitters is not gold and certainly not when a duck is on offer. In came Chandimal a ball ago, out he goes a ball later. What a jaffa from Razzak. He tosses this up around middle and leg and draws Chandimal forward. But once the ball pitches, it grips and turns past the outside edge. Clatter! Chandimal does not even bother to look back. This is not the first time he has been dismissed in that fashion. Razzak is on a hat-trick!
In walks the skipper, Dinesh Chandimal, at number 5. Is there time for Bangladesh to prize one more before the break?
Abdur Razzak to Danushka Gunathilaka. OUT! Poor shot. That is the problem with attacking. The batsman gets into the mode of hitting a bit too many risky shots and eventually pays the price. For Gunathilaka, that eventuality has come after 25 balls. Nothing special on the ball and an equally not-so-special shot from Danushka as well. He goes back, looking to punch but does not bother to keep it down. Now what is special on this ball is the catch. Mushfiqur Rahim, free from keeping duties, stationed at mid off, keeps his eyes on the ball, back-tracks and leaps at the precise moment to take a wonderful catch. The enterprising stand is broken.
Abdur Razzak for one last burst before Lunch.
Taijul Islam to Kusal Mendis. Full once more, the sweep is played again, but this time it is cut off by Mustafizur Rahman completing his morning jog from deep square leg. That should have been just a single but Rahman took his own sweet time, not paying a percent's heed to Liton Das' screaming.
Taijul Islam to Kusal Mendis. Outside off, pushed straight to cover.
Taijul Islam to Kusal Mendis. FOUR! BOOM! Not a bad delivery but an excellent shot. Mendis has picked the length in a trice. He sets himself for the sweep, gets down and hits it powerfully through mid-wicket for a boundary. The stand is worth 33 now.
Taijul Islam to Kusal Mendis. The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
Taijul Islam to Kusal Mendis. There you go, beating the batsman all ends up. The length is fractionally short of full and Kusal goes back to defend. But the ball pitches and then spins away just a touch to beat the outside edge.
Taijul Islam to Kusal Mendis. Tossed up, around middle and leg, Mendis lunges to defend. 'That's the length they need to bowl, over and over again', screams Athar Ali Khan on air. Bangladesh have been guilty of bowling way too many short balls in this session.
Mehidy Hasan to Danushka Gunathilaka. Similar to the boundary ball but this time Danushka punches it a bit too squarer. Mahmudullah from extra cover gets across to his right and dives to stop.
Mehidy Hasan to Danushka Gunathilaka. Comes down the track and pushes it straight to mid off.
Mehidy Hasan to Danushka Gunathilaka. FOUR! Great shot. Yes, it was a touch wide outside off but not all that short. But Gunathilaka goes back in a flash and punches it in front of the man at sweeper cover and beats him to the fence! Moves to 13 now.

Mehidy Hasan to Kusal Mendis. Fuller this time, flicked straight to short mid-wicket.
Mehidy Hasan to Kusal Mendis. Landed on middle, Mendis goes back and pushes it towards Mehidy.

Taijul Islam to Kusal Mendis. Full and around off, blocked back to the bowler.
Taijul Islam to Kusal Mendis. Short and outside off, punched straight to cover.
Taijul Islam to Kusal Mendis. Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
Taijul Islam to Kusal Mendis. The batsman has played it towards mid-wicket.
Taijul Islam to Kusal Mendis. SIX! BLUDGEONED! Fifty for Mendis! His 5th in Tests. Gets there in style. Full and around off, Mendis gets down and mows it over mid-wicket for a biggie! His aggression has kept Bangladesh on the back foot throughout. 50 from just 80 balls, not bad on a turning track. The stand is worth 23 now.
Mehidy Hasan to Kusal Mendis. Short and outside off, cut through the covers for one.
Mehidy Hasan to Kusal Mendis. Full and just outside off, Mendis is well forward in defense.

Mehidy Hasan to Danushka Gunathilaka. Better. Come forward and defend. Play safe if not picking.
Mehidy Hasan to Danushka Gunathilaka. Oohhh.... he is struggling to pick Mehidy here. The arm ball, around off, Danushka goes back to cut but the cherry skids off the surface. As a result, a bottom edge is induced back to the bowler.
Mehidy Hasan to Kusal Mendis. The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball. One run added to the total.
Mehidy Hasan to Kusal Mendis. On middle and off, worked straight to short mid-wicket.
Mehidy Hasan to Danushka Gunathilaka. Outside off, a tad short, punched through the covers for a single.
Mehidy Hasan to Danushka Gunathilaka. PHEW! Beaten in the mind. Tossed up outside off, Gunathilaka comes forward and then shoulders arms, expecting the ball to turn. But the ball does not spin, goes straight on and just misses the off pole!
Taijul Islam to Danushka Gunathilaka. Pushed to the cover region by the batsman. The batsmen have run through for a single.
Taijul Islam to Kusal Mendis. STREAKY! That is why one needs to be proactive on this pitch. Full and outside off, Mendis is in two minds, whether to go forward or stay back. He does neither, coming half forward and going half-heartedly to defend. The ball goes off the inside edge, just past the stumps to fine leg. A single taken.

Mehidy Hasan to Danushka Gunathilaka. Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
Mehidy Hasan to Danushka Gunathilaka. FOUR! BLAST! Positive cricket from Sri Lanka. Looking at the pitch, don't think we will have a Test match on Monday. Perhaps the first innings of the game will turn out to be extremely crucial. No point in hanging and blocking. Better to be proactive and keep the scoreboard ticking. Tossed up, Gunathilaka comes down the track and hammers it past the bowler for a boundary down the ground.
Mehidy Hasan to Danushka Gunathilaka. Landed around off, Gunathilaka uses his reach, strides forward, gets to the pitch of the ball and defends.
Taijul Islam to Kusal Mendis. Full and outside off, pushed wide of silly point.
Taijul Islam to Kusal Mendis. The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
Taijul Islam to Danushka Gunathilaka. Debatable. Down the leg side, Gunathilaka looks to flick initially but then withdraws his bat, shouldering arms. The ball goes off his pads towards deep backward square leg and initially it seems like the batsmen are not going to run. But then, we see Kusal Mendis at the striker's end. Did he offer a shot? Shouldn't that have been a dead ball? Anyways...

Taijul Islam to Dhananjaya de Silva. OUT! This time the edge goes to hand! This wicket has come out of nowhere. Taijul lands it closer to the rough already developing on the pitch and de Silva, like on the previous occasion, lunges to defend. But this time, the ball bounces and catches the batsman off guard. Off it goes, kissing the gloves and straight to Sabbir Rahman at first slip. No fuss. No big score for De Silva in this game. The quickfire stand ends.
Taijul Islam to Dhananjaya de Silva. Full and outside off, de Silva lunges to defend but gets an outside edge which does not carry to slip.

Drinks are on the field. This is a good start for Sri Lanka after electing to bat. They lost Karunaratne early but Mendis and his counter-attack has made sure Sri Lanka are in a good state. Dhananjaya de Silva has come out and the duo seem to be in the same mood which they were in the first Test. Mahmudullah is seen sharing some words with his team. Can they make further inroads?

Mehidy Hasan to Dimuth Karunaratne. Goes around the wicket for the southpaw. He floats it up around off, Dimuth prods froward and blocks it down.
Mehidy Hasan to Kusal Mendis. Drops it a bit short on middle, pulled in front of square on the leg side for a single.
Mehidy Hasan to Kusal Mendis. FOUR! Edged and through! Hasan already getting something off the surface! He tosses this one outside off, it holds its line a bit. Kusal lunges forward to push it away but gets an outside edge which evades Imrul Kayes at first slip and races down to the third man fence for a boundary. A streaky one.
Mehidy Hasan to Kusal Mendis. Loops it up around off, Mendis presses forward in defense.
Mehidy Hasan to Kusal Mendis. Sri Lanka are away straightaway! Hasan starts off from over the wicket and bowls a flatter one outside off, Kusal goes deep in the crease and punches it through covers to collect a couple of runs.
We are all set to get underway. The players and umpires have made their way out to the middle. Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis will open the batting for Sri Lanka. It will be Mehidy Hasan to start off with the bowling proceedings. A slip and a short leg in place...
Bangladesh captain, Mahmudullah says even he wanted to bat but the toss isn't in his control. Feels the surface is dry and they have the spinners to do the job. Ends by saying even they have made a couple of changes to their side.
Sri Lanka captain, Dinesh Chandimal feels it is a dry surface and hence the decision to bat first. Opines the previous Test was a good one for the batters but a nightmare for the bowlers. Is happy with how his batsmen performed then and hopes for a similar show again. Informs they have made two changes from the previous game.
PITCH REPORT - Tino Mawoyo doing the pitch report, says it's a bit overcast in Dhaka. Adds it looks a good surface to bat on and it's pretty dry. Spots some of the cracks that have opened up already and the spinners will be looking to explode those.
TEAM CHANGES - Both the sides have made a couple of changes. SABBIR RAHMAN and ABDUR RAZZAK (who last played a Test match exactly 4 years ago and that too against the same opponent) come in place of Mosaddek Hossain and Sunzamul Islam for the hosts. For Sri Lanka, AKILA DANANJAYA makes his Test debut as he replaces Lakshan Sandakan. Also, the tourists have gone in with one more batsman as they bring in DANUSHKA GUNATHILAKA in place of Lahiru Kumara.
TOSS - Dinesh Chandimal calls it right. Sri Lanka will bat!
The hosts have never won a single Test against Sri Lanka at home. Will we see that happening? Well, this has been a good hunting ground for the hosts as they have defeated England and Australia here. They are expected to make a couple of changes to their line-up whereas for Sri Lanka, apart from Lahiru Kumara, who had a poor outing earlier is likely to miss out today. We welcome you to the second and the final Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Don't go anywhere as the toss, teams and pitch report will be coming up in a bit.
Runs, runs and more runs was what we got to witness in Chittagong. The bowlers had a tough time then and in the end a tame draw was the outcome of the first Test. But today here we are in the capital city, Dhaka where it is expected for the spinners to have a ball. Both the sides match each other on all terms and it would be interesting to see who topples whom.
Gotta feel for Mehidy Hasan. He looked compact and assured in his unbeaten innings of 38, thereby being stranded at the other end as he viewed the procession. What he would hope for now, is to weave his magic with the ball. Sri Lanka's lead of 112 should be handy on this surface. Stay with us as the next innings is about to get underway.
The hosts' innings didn't get off to the best of starts as they lost Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque pretty early. While the former fell to a good reflex catch from Lakmal, the latter departed due to a schoolboy error on his part. The highest stand belonged to the pair of Mehidy Hasan and Mahmudullah and that came for the 6th wicket. Shows how little their batters contributed.
21 balls, 3 runs, 5 wickets -This has been a collapse for fun. The skipper Mahmudullah's wicket came across as the tap which was left open, due to which the others followed suit like water running out of the open tap. Akila Dananjaya was the man who hastened the end. He picked up a three-fer in his maiden innings. He was well supported by Suranga Lakmal and Dilruwan Perera. Both of them added one wicket apiece to their overnight tally.
Dilruwan Perera to Mustafizur Rahman. OUT! Never a doubt there! Flatter on the stumps, Mustafizur goes back to keep it out but misses the ball. Gets struck right in front of the stumps and the dreaded finger is raised on appeal. The tailender signals a 'T' though. Hawk Eye returns three reds and that's it for the hosts. SRI LANKA LEAD BY 112!
Review time. Rahman is given out LBW, but he wishes to have another look. He looks to be a dead duck and the DRS is taken more in hope than anything else.
Mustafizur Rahman is the last man in for Bangladesh.
Dilruwan Perera to Taijul Islam. RUN OUT! Excellent work from Mendis. Floated on the stumps, Taijul flicks it to the on side but gets overbalanced in the process. The ball goes straight to short leg. Kusal takes it and throws the ball immediately onto the stumps. Islam is well short, but it is referred upstairs. Another look confirms the same and Bangladesh 9 down now.
Run out appeal against Islam. Kusal Mendis very alert at short leg and fires a hit at the stumps. Looks to be a goner, referred upstairs to be safe.
Dilruwan Perera to Taijul Islam. Another one outside off, cut away towards point.
Dilruwan Perera to Taijul Islam. Flatter and shorter outside off, Islam goes back and cuts it to point.
Akila Dananjaya to Mehidy Hasan. Fired down the leg side, MH misses the flick.
Akila Dananjaya to Taijul Islam. DROPPED! I just mentioned that bowlers seldom drop catches when it comes off their own bowling and here is Dananjaya proving me wrong. Mind you, this was by no means an easy catch. Floated around off, Islam gets down to slog it away. Ends up getting a top edge as the ball goes in the air towards covers. Akila calls for it, covers good ground to reach the ball, but fails to hang on to it. A run taken.
Akila Dananjaya to Taijul Islam. Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
Akila Dananjaya to Taijul Islam. This one is driven towards mid on.
The next batsman in for Bangladesh is Taijul Islam.
Akila Dananjaya to Abdur Razzak. OUT! A nothing shot from the experienced Razzak. Maybe, experience calls for nothing especially when batting isn't your strong point. Tossed up generously around middle and off, Razzak drives it straight back to the bowler. These species don't generally miss catches off their own bowling and Akila is the same. Accepts the offering gleefully to pick up his third wicket. Bangladesh are still staring at a 113-run deficit.
Akila Dananjaya to Abdur Razzak. Floated around off, defended solidly off the back foot.
Dilruwan Perera to Mehidy Hasan. Close shave! Quicker one around off, Hasan gets his bat down hurriedly. Ends up getting an inside edge past the stumps.

Akila Dananjaya to Abdur Razzak. Fuller in length, pushed back to the bowler. A double wicket maiden for Dananjaya.
Abdur Razzak strides out to the middle next.
Akila Dananjaya to Sabbir Rahman. OUT! One brings two and Rahman's comeback lasts all of 3 balls. Tossed up around off and middle, Sabbir looks to drive it down the ground. Ends up getting it off the inner half towards mid-wicket, where Chandimal takes a good low catch diving forward. The batter went at it with hard hands and hence the ball carries to the fielder there. A blob for him on comeback and Sri Lanka on a roll here. They need three more to wrap up the innings.
Akila Dananjaya to Sabbir Rahman. The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
Akila Dananjaya to Sabbir Rahman. Another appeal, turned down! Floated outside off, Rahman looks to defend. Gets an inside edge onto the front pad. An appeal follows, turned down. Perhaps, in all his excitement, Akila failed to spot the presence of bat there.
Sabbir Rahman is the next man in.
Akila Dananjaya to Mahmudullah. OUT! The debutant gets his maiden scalp. Mahmudullah's stint in the middle culminates. Perhaps the opposing skipper is done in in the air here. Dananjaya floats it up outside off, it spins in nicely. Mahmudullah chooses the wrong shot for that. He looks to drive it through the covers, leaving a gate open between the bat and the pad. The ball goes through it and makes contact with the off stump. The youngster is elated and why won't he be. It's a dream delivery for him. The trail stands at 115. End of the 92-ball stand, that was worth 34 runs.
Akila Dananjaya to Mahmudullah. Floated around off, defended watchfully off the front foot.
Dilruwan Perera to Mahmudullah. Fired on the pads, Mahmudullah fails to flick it. The ball goes off his pads to the on side and a leg bye is taken.

Dilruwan Perera to Mahmudullah. Defended off the back foot solidly.
Dilruwan Perera to Mahmudullah. Mahmudullah lunges and bunts it out.
Let the laurels come in for Mehidy Hasan. The on-air commentators discuss that the batter, who came in yesterday as a nightwatchman, has looked very good so far. Compact in defense and confident in attack, that have been his characteristics in this innings. He has looked assured of his footwork against spin and that has been the key. What's more, he has been unfazed by the fact that some deliveries spin viciously to beat the edges. Good for the young man. Needs to carry on and get his second Test fifty.
Dilruwan Perera to Mahmudullah. The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
Akila Dananjaya to Mehidy Hasan. Defended off the front foot with a nice lunge.
Akila Dananjaya to Mehidy Hasan. A touch shorter in length and landed outside off, Hasan goes back to cut. The ball spins in a long way yet the batter does well to guide it through backward point. Gets a couple. The track doesn't have a lot of pace on it, as a sharper spin on that could have put the batter in some trouble here.
Akila Dananjaya to Mehidy Hasan. Similar ball and similar response from the batter.
Akila Dananjaya to Mehidy Hasan. More revs given to this one and it is landed around off. MH lunges and smother it.

Dilruwan Perera to Mahmudullah. This is solidly bunted off the front foot.
Dilruwan Perera to Mahmudullah. FOUR! Risky but effective on this occasion. Don't know if this is the right way to approach, though. Tossed up just outside off, Mahmudullah gets out the reverse sweep. He isn't in full control as he gets it on the bat close to the handle. The ball goes just past the right of first slip and races away to the fence behind. 100 up for the hosts.
Dilruwan Perera to Mahmudullah. Floated up just outside off, Mahmudullah covers his stumps and offers a straight bat in defense.
Dilruwan Perera to bowl for the first time today. Kayes' wicket has been his only success so far, although he has been good with his lines even otherwise. A slip and a bat-pad in place.

Looks to go over covers but ends up slicing it over cover-point. The fielder from covers backtracks, chases the ball as well but comes second best even after putting in the slide.

Drinks are on the field. Just a wicket lost and Bangladesh are still 134 behind. The pitch is playing its tricks and the hosts will consider themselves lucky to have survived. Lakmal bowled well in his first spell and Herath continued to operate from one end. Though the latter doesn't have any success to show, he has already troubled the batsmen on numerous occasions. Let's see what happens in the next hour...

Lakmal hits the deck hard and angles it in from outside off. Hasan hops to tuck it away but misses to wear it on the thigh pad. They appeal but umpire Joel Wilson shakes his head. Chandimal has a word with his bowler before opting for the DRS. There is no inside edge and Hawk Eye shows it to be going over the stumps. That is it! Hasan survives!

Suranga Lakmal to Mahmudullah. Stands tall to this back of a length delivery outside off and taps it towards point.

Suranga Lakmal to Liton Das. OUT! Chopped on! Suranga Lakmal is up and running with his index fingers pointing skywards. That's his typical celebration! He drops it short and outside off, Das is very tentative in his approach. He half-heartedly goes for the cut shot away from the body and his feet go nowhere towards the ball. It leads to his undoing as he gets a bottom edge which deflects back onto the off stump. Good early strike for Sri Lanka, they are still 149 runs ahead.

PITCH REPORT - Tino Mawoyo says the spinners have got a lot of turn from the line of the stumps. Adds there are a lot of roughs developing outside the off stump and it will be a huge task for Bangladesh's batsmen. Ends saying being positive is the key on this surface as it will deteriorate as the game progresses.
So, after skittling out the Lankans for a scanty 222, the hosts find themselves in a precarious position having lost 4 for 56. With the trail already a massive one, 166 runs, Bangladesh need someone to replicate what Kusal Mendis or Roshen Silva did in the first innings. Wouldn't be easy by any means but who knows. They would look upto either Mahmudullah or Sabbir Rahman for that to happen. What's in store for us today? Wickets or runs? Another enthralling day beckons. Stay with us as the action is about to kickoff...
After a dismal Chittagong Test, we saw a complete contrasting show yesterday. 14 wickets in a day means that this Test has moved at a remarkable speed and if day 1 is anything to go by, it wouldn't be wrong to predict we can have an early result.
... Day 2, Session 1 ...
Right then! 14 wickets on Day 1 and given that pitches usually get worse on days to follow in Asian conditions, assuming my maths is correct, we are in for a 3-day finish. Bangladesh have their backs to the wall is an understatement. They trail by a massive margin and also have to bat last on this crumbling pitch. All the best. They will hope to sleep well tonight for a better tomorrow. Let's stop it at that because we know what the Lankans will be aiming - bowl out the hosts under 150 and then bat well in the second innings. Join us at 0930 local (0330 GMT) for all the action from Day 2. Until then, ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
To whom does the day belong then? Sri Lanka, by a mile. They chose to bat, were 96/2 at one stage but then lost their way. 222 all out did not seem to be a great score but after having the opposition at 45/4, they will take it. Kusal Mendis, Roshen Silva and Dilruwan Perera avoided embarrassment for the Lankans and then with the ball, the visitors were tremendous. Did not give anything away.
87.3 overs, 278 runs, 14 wickets! Not bad after the run-fest a few days ago. What an exciting opening day of Test cricket.
Dilruwan Perera to Mehidy Hasan. On middle, tucked around the corner past short leg for a run. STUMPS ON DAY 1, BANGLADESH TRAIL BY 166!

Mustafizur Rahman to Roshen Silva. Comes steaming in from over the wicket, he slants it on a fuller length outside off, Silva leans across and drives it square of the wicket on the off side. Good running between the wickets allows them to come back for a couple.
Mustafizur Rahman will bowl from the other end. He will be the man that Bangladesh will be looking for to clean up the Lankans. He has a widish slip and a gully in place...
Mehidy Hasan to Roshen Silva. Slower through the air, outside off, Roshen lunges and taps it towards the off side for a single to keep strike.

Abdur Razzak is up for a chat. He smiles and says he was very surprised to get a call back in the team after a long time. Adds he wanted to make this opportunity count and is happy to do well for the side. Agrees his team is in a precarious position but feels they still can make a match out of this if they bat well. Ends saying the pitch has settled a bit now so it's all about playing well out there.
PITCH REPORT - Tino Mawoyo says the pitch has got some serious wear and tear. There is a huge patch of rough outside the off stump for the left-handers which can get the Bangladesh batsmen on their toes. Adds there are a few more cracks that have opened up and the spinners will be licking their lips to have a go.
Bangladesh, well, they are under the pump and before thinking of anything else, their first aim will be to pick the remaining two wickets quickly to limit further damage. The pitch is expected to deteriorate even more and if the first two days are anything to go by, it wouldn't be wrong to say that this could be the last day of the Test. Do Bangladesh have it in them to put up a fight? Hello and welcome to our coverage for the third day's play.
Having bundled out the hosts for a paltry 110 and then building on the lead that they got, Sri Lanka are well and truly on top of this Test. Agreed, they are 8 wickets down but they have managed to swell the lead to a massive 312 runs and they still have Roshen Silva out there batting on 58. How much more can he add? Remains to be seen.
... Day 3, Session 1 ...
After yet another 14-wicket day, the game enters Day 3. More wear and tear on the surface and hence more spin could be on offer. Life could become more difficult for the batters. Could tomorrow be the last day in this Test? Possible. Do join us to find out, 0930 local (0330 GMT) are the timings. Take care till then. Adios!
For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman made good use of the crumbling pitch. He mixed his off cutters well to cause unease to the batters. As a result, he features thrice in the wickets column, being on the cusp of picking up a treble, too. Mehidy Hasan was stingy and effective, but one feels he was under-bowled. He was rewarded for his discipline with a couple of wickets. The others didn't consistently trouble the batsmen enough.
Dimuth Karunaratne managed to shake off his single-digit rut but failed to convert it into something substantial. It was his slowest knock in terms of strike rate, when he has scored over 25 runs in an innings. Dhananjaya de Silva was out there for an attacking cameo, as he threw it away then. Dinesh Chandimal and Silva stuck there stringing a stand of 51 runs to consistently not let the game go out of their grasp.
Off go the bails, off trudge the players to their dressing rooms. A glance at the scorecard won't confuse you about who's bossing the game. Sri Lanka have continued to crawl ahead in the game, step by step, run by run. Roshen Silva, the promising youngster that he is, has displayed the perfect technique to play in the spinning conditions. He has made his fourth score more than 50 on the trot and is looking good for more only if he finds some support from the other end.
Taijul Islam to Suranga Lakmal. Floated around middle and leg, blocked firmly off the front foot. BANGLADESH ARE 312 RUNS BEHIND AT STUMPS, DAY 2!
Taijul Islam to Suranga Lakmal. Taijul comes over the wicket and lands it around leg, blocked by Lakmal.

Taijul Islam to Suranga Lakmal. Defended with a prod forward.
Taijul Islam to Suranga Lakmal. FOUR! Wow! Lakmal has saved his best for the last, says Tino Mawoyo on air. He shimmies down a touch and blasts it down the ground. Almost takes his partner as he ducks for cover. The ball goes away to the fence. After that, the two are seen exchanging a healthy laugh. Not sure if that would have been the case had the ball hit the non-striker. 200 up for the Lankans, they are ahead by 112 runs more than that.
Taijul Islam to Suranga Lakmal. Floated outside off, driven to mid off.
Last over of the day coming up...
Mustafizur Rahman to Roshen Silva. On a length outside off, this one stays low. Silva looks to flay it through the off side but the ball passes under his blade. Das does well to collect this one low. Remember, he is standing close to the stumps.
Mustafizur Rahman to Roshen Silva. On a length on middle, Silva defends but gets an inside edge to square leg.
Mustafizur Rahman to Suranga Lakmal. Fuller in length, angling in. Lakmal looks to work it away to the on side but gets a leading edge. The ball goes over wide mid off and a single is taken.

Taijul Islam to Roshen Silva. FOUR! Tripe, bosh... Call it what you want. That's how this ball was. Tired arm, that's why. This is a long hop outside off, Silva goes back and slaps it through backward point for another boundary. 8 off this over.

Abdur Razzak to Suranga Lakmal. Flatter on off, defended from the crease.
Abdur Razzak to bowl now.
Mustafizur Rahman to Roshen Silva. 3rd Test fifty for Roshen Silva, his fourth consecutive 50-plus score. He pushes it past mid on and gets back for the second. All the talks revolved around this track being a tough one to bat on. But here is a guy, who has gone about doing his thing without much ado. Take a bow, youngie!
Mustafizur Rahman to Roshen Silva. Mustafiz comes from over the wicket and angles it across. Punched towards covers from the crease.
Mustafizur Rahman to Roshen Silva. FOUR! Bludgeoned! Overpitched on middle, Silva gets his front leg out of the way and bashes it down the ground for a boundary. He is two short of a half century while his team is three short of getting ahead by 300.
Mustafizur Rahman to Roshen Silva. Slower one on a length just outside off, Roshen is a touch early into the shot bit adjusts well to bunt it off the back foot.
Mustafizur Rahman to Roshen Silva. Similar length on off, defended towards cover-point for nothing.
Mustafizur Rahman to Roshen Silva. Fuller around middle, defended towards mid on.
Double change. Abdur Razzak is back on. Scratch all that. MUSTAFIZUR will continue.
Taijul Islam to Suranga Lakmal. Lakmal strides forward and smothers this one.
Taijul Islam to Suranga Lakmal. Flatter and quicker down the leg side SL misses the flick.
Taijul Islam to Roshen Silva. NOT OUT! Silva cuts this one towards backward point and sets off for a quick run. Lakmal responds. The throw is fired flat to the keeper, who collects the ball in front of the stumps and breaks it through his legs. An appeal is put and is taken upstairs. Suranga, however, has dragged his bat in and is safe when the bails come off.
A run out appeal against Lakmal is taken upstairs.

Mustafizur Rahman to Roshen Silva. Punched off the back foot by the batsman.
Sabbir is getting some medical attention from the physio now.
Mustafizur Rahman to Suranga Lakmal. DROPPED! Sabbir Rahman the culprit again. He had grassed one even in the first innings. On a length outside off, the ball takes off after landing. Lakmal is squared up as a result and gets a thick outside edge. It goes to Sabbir at first slip, who fails to react quick enough to catch that. The ball goes off his hands towards fine leg and a run is taken. A clip of him practising slip-catching is shown but all that counts for nothing if you can't hang on to these in a game.
Mustafizur Rahman to Suranga Lakmal. The ball for the treble turns out to a damp squib. Hurled from round the wicket down the leg side, Lakmal fails in his attempted flick. Das moves swiftly to his left to collect that and whips off the bails in a flash. Nothing gained though.
Suranga Lakmal walks in next. He will face the HAT-TRICK BALL from Rahman. Two slips, gully and silly point in position.
Mustafizur Rahman to Akila Dananjaya. OUT! Two in two, Mustafizur is on a hat-trick! He hurls in an off cutter outside off, on a length. The ball moves in a touch after pitching. Dananjaya looks to play the initial line, failing to counter the inward move. The ball has enough to take the outside edge and goes through to the keeper. They go up in excitement. Akila seems confused but he has to walk back. Sri Lanka are 10 short of leading by 300.
The man walking it at no. 9 for the Lankans is Akila Dananjaya.
Mustafizur Rahman to Dilruwan Perera. OUT! A wicket soon after coming into the attack, yet again. Mustafizur Rahman. He lands it full outside off, this is just a touch shorter than the previous one. Perera pokes at it tentatively. Seems to have feathered an outside edge to the keeper, who takes a nice catch standing close to the stumps. The finger is raised but Dilruwan isn't happy. He talks to Silva and then opts for the DRS. Snicko confirms that that's it for Perera. He takes the lone review left for his side.
Perera is given out caught behind. However, he isn't convinced with that. Has a chat with his partner, post which he signals the 'T'. Remember, this is Sri Lanka's last review.
Mustafizur Rahman to Dilruwan Perera. FOUR! Anticlimax! After all the time taken to get the field and the tactics right, a boundary results. Rahman runs in from round the wicket and bowls it full outside off. Perera gets his stride out and drives it crisply through covers. Excellent shot.
Now Liton Das and Mustafizur Rahman have a longish chat. The latter is coming back into the attack. His last spell was a good one, where he troubled the batsmen with his off cutters. Now Mahmudullah has a talk with him. Post that, three slips are seen in place, apart from a mid off, a man at covers and another one at point. What's more, the keeper is standing up to the stumps.

Taijul Islam to Dilruwan Perera. Flatter on the stumps, defended with a straight bat.
Dilruwan Perera is the next man. At this juncture, it is good to remember that he strung a crucial 52-run stand with Roshen Silva in the first essay.
Taijul Islam to Niroshan Dickwella. OUT! Dickwella picks out the man to perfection. Tossed up around off and middle, Dickwella gets down and sweeps it aerially. Finds Mahmudullah at square leg, who times his leap to perfection to take that. Strangely, post that, he mimes a throw at the other end. Sri Lanka are effectively 282/6.

Mehidy Hasan to Niroshan Dickwella. The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
Mehidy Hasan to Niroshan Dickwella. The TV umpire rules it in FAVOUR OF THE BATSMAN! Dickwella continues to bat on. Floated outside off from round the wicket, Niroshan chooses to play the reverse sweep. Ends up chipping it aerially towards covers, where Hayder, the sub, dives forwards and claims the catch. The on-field umpires keep the batter waiting, confer among themselves and signal to the third umpire, giving the soft signal as Not Out. Multiple replays are seen. None is conclusive enough to overturn the original call. On all the views, the ball seems to have bounced just in front of the fielder diving forward. Hence the original call is upheld.
Dickwella seems to have perished in his attempt to be aggressive. There is a catch taken at covers. However, the on-field umpire has asked the batsman to wait. He has referred it to the TV umpire, with the soft signal being NOT OUT!

Mehidy Hasan to Roshen Silva. Punched through covers for a couple.
Mehidy Hasan to Roshen Silva. FOUR! Tossed up around off, there is a hint of spin inwards even as Silva charges down the track. Roshen goes over mid-wicket but does so off the inner half. Once he clears the man, it's always a boundary. Not that Hasan should mind this, as it gives him a chance of getting a scalp. But with the track behaving as it is, every run matters and hence the hosts can't afford to give away runs.
Mehidy Hasan to Roshen Silva. Flighted delivery around off and middle, kept out to short leg.
Taijul Islam to Niroshan Dickwella. Served around middle, wristed to mid-wicket.

Mehidy Hasan to Niroshan Dickwella. The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
Mehidy Hasan to Niroshan Dickwella. Razzak FLUFFS A CHANCE! This is nicely floated outside off, Dickwella gets down the track. The bowler had spotted the same and hence pushed it wider. Niroshan had to reach out to it to not let the ball pass him. Looks to go inside out but the bat turns in his hands and the ball skies high up in the air. The players appeal and the umpire nods in agreement. The southpaw immediately opts to get it reviewed and the presence of willow saves him.
Two in two? Dickwella is ruled out LBW by Joel Wilson. The southpaw immediately opts for the DRS. Only an inside edge can save him here...
Niroshan Dickwella strides out to the center.
Mehidy Hasan to Dinesh Chandimal. OUT! The low bounce has consumed Chandimal. Hasan strikes. This is what puzzled us for a while. That right arm off spinners can't be effective against right-handers is a myth. Proved here. Flatter in trajectory, shortish in length. Chandimal looks to pull it away. But the ball doesn't climb and passes below his bat to strike him on the back leg. Looks to be plumb and the appeal is upheld. Dinesh asks his partner about opting for DRS but he is sent on his way. Three reds on Hawk Eye as well. The visitors are 255 runs ahead.
Mehidy Hasan to Dinesh Chandimal. The first fifty-run stand in the innings. Floated around middle, worked away through backward square leg for a brace.

The Fizz can't believe it nor can we.

Mehidy Hasan drifts it on middle and leg, Dimuth comes dancing down the track to whip it away. It goes quickly towards mid-wicket where Kayes reacts and plucks it a stunning fashion by diving to his right. The hosts roar in delight. Can they pick a few more? ... Day 2, Session 3 ...
Dimuth Karunaratne has stood tall amidst all this. He has eaten up 94 balls, tells you about his solidity which was missing since a few innings. However, he struggled a bit at the start but has gained confidence as the game progressed. Bangladesh would be looking to pick up wickets and at the same time keep a lid on the scoring rate. Will their spinners enforce a collapse? Do join us for the final session which will start in just a bit...
28 Overs, 78 Runs and 3 Wickets is the summary of the session. Although Bangladesh have picked up wickets, the Lankans have stretched the lead to one short of 200. It all started with Razzak getting the better of Mendis for the second time in the Test. De Silva once again walked out with positive intent and kept the runs flowing. He scored 28 off 24 balls before getting befuddled by Islam. Since his departure, the scoring rate has dipped a bit and Rahman came back into the attack to remove Gunathilaka in his very first over of the spell.

Mustafizur Rahman to Dinesh Chandimal. Fuller and attacking the stumps, blocked from the crease.
Good observation! Mustafizur Rahman persisted with the cutters to get his man in his previous over. First up, he bowled it a bit shorter in length and it moved down the leg side. Then he pitched it on a similar line but the length was a tad fuller where he induced an inside edge. When he landed it further in length, he got the reward he wanted...

Mustafizur Rahman to Danushka Gunathilaka. OUT! Plumb in front! Mustafizur Rahman strikes in his very first over in this spell. The bowling change has done the trick. He goes wider of the crease and doles out a cutter outside off on a fuller length. It grips off the surface and comes back in to ping Gunathilaka, who looks to walk across and flick, on the pads right in front of the stumps. A huge shout and the umpire raises the finger. Abdur Razzak to Danushka Gunathilaka. Huge shout for a caught behind this time! Not given! Lands it outside off, it zips through the surface as Gunathilaka goes back to defend. Seems to have missed it completely but Bangladesh keep appealing. They think about the review but decide against it. Replays show there is nothing on Ultra Edge.
Abdur Razzak to Danushka Gunathilaka. What was that? Down the leg side, Gunathilaka gets down to pull this but seems to have gotten off the gloves. Liton Das moves to his right to take it. He shows smartness here. Since he can't get to it, he sticks his right leg out but the ball deflects off the shoe to the other side. He loses his balance and hence cannot get to it. So definitely a chance but a real tough one.

Taijul Islam to Danushka Gunathilaka. Interesting! Gunathilaka moves inside the line to the ball going down leg. He tries to shoulder his arms but the ball brushes his pads and rolls past the keeper. Danushka Gunathilaka walks in next.
Taijul Islam to Dhananjaya de Silva. OUT! Knocked him over! Very ugly dismissal. Will tell you why. It is not an easy track to bat on and hence, it is important to capitalize when you seem to be in. Here, de Silva, who is fairly set, makes room to play this one over the off side, thinking the ball to be outside off. But Taijul seems to be a clever bowler. He tosses this one up and lands it around middle. The ball spins away just a touch. Dhananjaya is deceived here and is in no position to get bat to that. Ends up missing the ball, which goes on to strike the off stump. The promising 34-run stand comes to a bad end, as does the enterprising knock from the no. 3. Bowling spin is mostly about four flushing and Islam has succeeded in doing just that. Sri Lanka have 8 wickets in their bag, while Bangladesh are trailing the game by 165 runs.

Mehidy Hasan to Dimuth Karunaratne. THE ON-FIELD CALL STAYS! This is floated just outside off, Karunaratne strides forward to defend. Seems to have done well to do so to the off side. However, the hosts appeal mutedly to no avail. The bowler seems sure that it is pad first and eggs his skipper to opt for DRS, which the latter does. The replays show that IT IS PAD FIRST, indeed. But since Dimuth was lunging forward to defend, meaning he was playing a shot, the impact had to be seen. It is outside off and hence the southpaw survives. A review lost for the hosts.
Mehidy Hasan to Dimuth Karunaratne. Flatter on off, punched back to the bowler.
Mehidy Hasan to have a bowl now. He should know the surface better now, as he batted valiantly for an unbeaten 38. A slip stands guard as does a man at silly point. In the first Test, he was brought on when Karunaratne was batting and did well to get him dismissed. Notable is the fact that he was taken off the attack after that sole over in the spell.
Abdur Razzak to Dhananjaya de Silva. Fired on the pads, DdS fails to get bat in his attempted defense.
Abdur Razzak to Dhananjaya de Silva. Flatter ball spinning away just a touch outside off. De Silva goes back and guides it past slip. Kayes from short third man chases it down and keeps it to a brace.

Taijul Islam to Dhananjaya de Silva. Close leave. Arm ball outside off, de Silva watches it through to the keeper. Wasn't too far from the off pole.
Taijul Islam to Dhananjaya de Silva. FOUR! Overcompensates, does Islam, pays the price again. This is fired in at a full length, Dhananjaya drives it through covers for another boundary. This was all along the ground.
Taijul Islam to Dhananjaya de Silva. FOUR! Long hop, punished. When the surface doesn't give you much pace to work with, you err if you drop the ball on a shorter length. That's precisely what has happened here. The length allows de Silva to go back and punch it through covers for a boundary.
Taijul Islam to Dhananjaya de Silva. Nicely looped up around off, Dhananjaya gets forward and blocks it.
Abdur Razzak to Dimuth Karunaratne. Flighted ball around middle and leg, flicked away to square leg.

Abdur Razzak to Dimuth Karunaratne. Tossed up around off, Karunaratne flicks it towards mid on. There is a slight misfield there from Taijul during which the batsmen think of a run. But he recovers well for them to quash any such plans.

Abdur Razzak to Kusal Mendis. OUT! No inside edge, Hawk Eye says, CRASHING THE STUMPS! Razzak got Mendis in the first innings and does so yet again. He darts in an arm delivery around off, Mendis fails to pick it. He lunges forward to play for the conventional turn, which is absent. The ball raps him on the front pad. An appeal is just a formality as the finger is raised by umpire Joel Wilson. Kusal is unsure of walking off and he asks his partner whether he should review it. Gets the nod from Karunaratne. Bad call as three reds signal that Sri Lanka lose a wicket as well as a review. They are effectively 131/1.
Kusal Mendis is a goner! He is ruled out LBW. However, as all dismissed batters, he is not happy to leave. Discusses with his partner and opts for the DRS. Only an inside edge can save him.
Abdur Razzak to Kusal Mendis. Floated around off, blocked solidly.

Abdur Razzak to Dimuth Karunaratne. Pushed towards point for a single.
Abdur Razzak to Dimuth Karunaratne. Floated outside off, driven to mid off.
The Bangladesh team physio is out in the middle. Mominul Haque is down in pain owing to the blow that he took in the last ball of the previous over. The magic spray does its bit and he is back on his feet.
Taijul Islam to Kusal Mendis. OUCH! That must have hurt. Served in line of the stumps, Kusal gets down and sweeps it hard. It hits short leg on the shin, in spite of him wearing the guard. Poor lad. He is down in pain. He tried to evade the ball but the ball followed him to hit him.

Abdur Razzak to Kusal Mendis. Lovely, lovely delivery. Some more flight given to this one just outside off, it spins away with a puff of dust. Kusal prods to defend but gets beaten. Das flips the bails off and asks the question but the umpire stays unmoved. There is a request from him and the slip fielder to take it upstairs which the umpire doesn't pay heed to. Replay shows that Kusal's back leg is firmly glued in the crease.
Abdur Razzak to Dimuth Karunaratne. Tossed up around off and middle, Dimuth drives it down to long on for a single.
Abdur Razzak to Kusal Mendis. Short in length, Mendis goes back and pulls it to deep mid-wicket. Gets one for the same.

Abdur Razzak to Dimuth Karunaratne. This time he plays it with the spin and picks up a single through mid-wicket.
Abdur Razzak to Dimuth Karunaratne. Similar line, spinning down leg. DK goes back but misses the flick.
Abdur Razzak to Dimuth Karunaratne. Karunaratne is not picking Razzak here. Strange. The spinner isn't someone who has many varieties up his sleeve. He varies his flight and mixes up the arm delivery and the conventional spin. Here he delivers the latter around middle and leg, it spins away a touch. Dimuth looks to flick it away but the ball seems to have missed the blade and gone off the pads to leg slip. Mahmudullah catches it and puts in an appeal only for it to be turned down.
Now. A slip, leg slip, short leg are close-in for Karunaratne.
Abdur Razzak to Kusal Mendis. Floated outside off, the outside edge is captured as Mendis prods to defend. It rolls towards short third man and a quick single is taken.

Welcome back. After a sumptuous meal, the players are out in the middle at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. We have 62 overs to see off the day. Numerous mouthwatering battles will continue to capture our attention. It'll be the Kusal Mendis - Abdur Razzak duel to begin the proceedings. A slip and a bat-pad in position.
... Day 2, Session 2 ...
Although the hosts have to bat last on this surface, they shouldn't believe all's lost at this point. Yes, they were on the back foot after losing 4 wickets last night. Such tracks often see at least one side collapsing and today, Bangladesh had their name written on it. There is something on it for the bowlers and their bevy of spinners shall hope to replicate the Lankan tweakers and restrict the tourists to a meager total. Is this the way the game will pan out? Join us at 1210 local time (0610 GMT) to find out.
The tourists had to see off just a couple of overs before the interval and they have done so with a clean slate. The opening pair of Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis has largely been untroubled and a much harder task awaits them. Nobody can believe himself to be in on such a crumbling surface. We can expect them to come out all guns blazing in a bid to accumulate some quick runs and put more pressure on the other side.
Mustafizur Rahman to Dimuth Karunaratne. Negotiates the final ball before LUNCH, DAY 2, by defending this one off the front foot. Sri Lanka have their noses ahead by 121 runs.
Mustafizur Rahman to Dimuth Karunaratne. Driven through mid on by DK.

Mustafizur Rahman to Dimuth Karunaratne. Full on off, driven to mid off.
Mustafizur Rahman to Dimuth Karunaratne. Edged! Karunaratne looks to defend this one with soft hands, gets an outside edge towards second slip. The ball lands just short of Sabbir Rahman there and rolls behind. A couple taken.

Abdur Razzak to Kusal Mendis. Shout for LBW! Floated around middle and leg, Mendis looks to sweep but misses. The ball hits him on the right arm and that draws the hosts in appeal. Turned down. Hawk Eye shows it to be going over the stumps.
Abdur Razzak to Kusal Mendis. The batsman has driven it through mid on.
Abdur Razzak to Dimuth Karunaratne. Don't you learn from your mistakes, Dimuth? In the first innings, he charged down the track to such a floated delivery and ended up missing the ball completely. Does the same, yet again. Thankfully for him, his pads come in the way and the ball rolls through backward square leg for a run. Runs signaled by the umpire.
Abdur Razzak to Kusal Mendis. Streaky. Flatter outside off, Mendis goes back to cut it away. Ends up getting a bottom edge and the ball rolls through the keeper's legs. Sabbir from first slip chases it down and saves a run for his side.
Abdur Razzak to Dimuth Karunaratne. Razzak starts off with a delivery on the pads, Karunaratne flicks it away through backward square leg for a single to get going.
That's all we have from this game. The action between these two sides isn't over here. They will now lock horns for a 2-match T20I series starting from 15th of February at 1700 Local time (1100 GMT) at the same venue. Before we leave, just reminding you - there is a T20I game going on between Australia and England and then later in the evening, South Africa and India will clash for the 4th ODI. So suit up and tuck in there if you wish. Until then, goodbye and take care. Cheers!
The trophy is handed over to Chandimal who walks towards the stage and gives it to the youngsters. A lot of smiling faces and they thoroughly deserved this, especially with the drubbing they had got at the hands of the Indians recently. But all that is past, they have kicked off the new year with a bang. Were down and out at the start of the Tri-Nation Series but then came back in a stunning fashion to win it. And then have continued the winning momentum to have their hands on the Test series as well. Well played, Sri Lanka.
Victorious Lankan skipper, Dinesh Chandimal is all smiles. Starts saying both the games were a nightmare - first one for the bowlers, second for the batters. Is happy to come out on top here. Informs they knew they are going to get a turning track in the second Test but opines they had experienced spinners in their armory to counter it. Lauds Roshen Silva for the way he has put his hands up. Has a word for Akila Dananjaya who had a dream debut and thanks the support staff as well. Ends saying it was a collective team effort from everyone.
Man of the Match and Series, Roshen Silva, thanks the Almighty first and is happy that his side won the all-important toss. Feels the wicket was really difficult to bat on but he says he didn't think about that much and just played his natural game. Credits the lower-middle order (Lakmal, Herath and Dananjaya) to not gift its wickets away. States the players hung in out there and added crucial 20-30 runs with him which is gold on such a surface.
Bangladesh skipper, Mahmudullah is really disappointed with their batting effort. Adds they knew the pitch will force a result but rues to not give a fight. Further adds on such kind of pitches it's important to do well in the first innings which unfortunately they couldn't and that is where they lost the game. Praises his bowlers for the way they have bowled. Appreciates Mominul Haque and reckons he is a good player of spin. Ends by saying there are a lot of positives to take from this game and hopes they do well in future.
With over 5 sessions to go and the pitch starting to spit venom, the result was certain. Bangladesh needed 339 to win and had their backs firmly against the wall. Agreed, they were already under the pump but going down without a fight is something you don't expect from the team that has shown promising signs, especially at home in the recent past. Tough loss for Bangladesh but rejoice for Sri Lanka. Stick with us for the presentation...
In reply, Bangladesh got steamrolled at the blink of an eye. From 107/5, they got folded for a scanty 110. The fact that Mehidy Hasan remained unbeaten on 38, tells us how less their batters could contribute. Lakmal, yes, the pacer was the one to start the downfall and then Perera and Dananjaya took over. This gave Sri Lanka a massive 112-run lead and all they had to do was to stretch it like elastic. It wasn't a good show from their batsmen on a spinning surface but they managed to stand there for a while. Roshen Silva once again stole the show and marshalled the lower order, only to remain stranded on 70.
After a docile pitch in Chittagong where the game ended in a tame draw, the story was completely contrasting in Dhaka. Chandimal won the all-important toss but his batters could just amass 222 on the board, with Kusal Mendis and Roshen Silva scoring fifties. Abdur Razzak, the comeback man, was the star for the hosts as he ran through the Lankan batting line-up along with Taijul Islam. Both the spinners bagged 8 wickets between them.
What a thumping win for the Lankans to seal the series. All it took for them was just 177 BALLS today to wrap the hosts up. The veteran, Rangana Herath was kept quiet in the first essay but boy, he came out breathing fire to dismantle the opposition. He led the charge from the front, picking up a 4-fer and then debutant Akila Dananjaya applied the finishing touches by having some more fun. He ruled the roost and made his debut game a memorable one as he now holds the record for most wickets on debut by a Lankan.
Rangana Herath to Taijul Islam. OUT! In the air... taken! Rangana Herath becomes the highest wicket-taker amongst left-arm bowlers. What a feat! goes past Wasim Akram. He is congratulated by his mates as SRI LANKA BEAT BANGLADESH BY 215 RUNS! Tossed up outside off, Islam gets down and plays the slog sweep. Gets good connection but Gunathilaka at deep mid-wicket stays calm and takes a well-judged catch before the celebration begins.
Rangana Herath to Taijul Islam. FOUR! Islam is having some fun out there! Tossed up outside off, Taijul gets down and nails the reverse sweep through backward point for a boundary.
Rangana Herath to Mustafizur Rahman. Bye! Slower through the air, landed outside off, Taijul gets down to play the big slog but the ball goes under his bat and through the legs of the keeper to fine leg. A bye taken.
Akila Dananjaya to Mustafizur Rahman. Another wild slog sweep, mistimed to deep mid-wicket. A single taken.
Akila Dananjaya to Mustafizur Rahman. FOUR! Up and over. Some fun now. Full and outside off, Mustafizur swings and swings hard to get it over mid on for a boundary.
Mustafizur Rahman walks out to bat as the innings fizzes out to a close.
Akila Dananjaya to Mehidy Hasan. OUT! Forget the drop, this one is a catch! Variation from Akila. He bowls the leg spinner, outside off and Mehidy does not pick it. Just lunges to defend and gets a thin outside edge to the keeper behind. Another wonderful catch and AKILA DANANJAYA NOW HAS THE BEST BOWLING FIGURES IN A MATCH BY A SRI LANKAN ON TEST DEBUT.
Akila Dananjaya to Mehidy Hasan. DROPPED? Perhaps. Full and around off, Hasan lunges to defend but the ball goes off the gloves to short leg. Kusal Mendis comes forward for the catch but is unable to hang on.
Akila Dananjaya to Mehidy Hasan. SIX! Just over the man! For a moment one felt the fielder had it covered. Mehidy came down the track and looked to play the slog. He made good connection but seemed to get more height than distance. Danushka Gunathilaka at the mid-wicket fence came running in initially, then went back. Leapt but the ball eluded him, beyond the ropes.
Akila Dananjaya to Taijul Islam. Full and on leg stump, pushed towards mid on for a quick single.
Rangana Herath to Mehidy Hasan. The batsman fails to get bat on that one and is hit on the pad.

Akila Dananjaya to Taijul Islam. The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
Taijul Islam in at number 10.
Akila Dananjaya to Abdur Razzak. OUT! The foot is on the line! Why weren't you confident, Dikka? Razzak has his name registered in the sheet as well - the train out of Dhaka. The 7 before him look like confirming it last evening itself. Full and outside off, Razzak gets down and attempts the slog sweep again. He misses and the keeper whips the bails off. He appeals towards the square leg umpire more out of habit, keeps looking at where Razzak's foot is but does not seem confident. Replays show that Razzak's foot went out of the crease, came back, but could not cross the line. What a debut for Dananjaya.
Number 8? There is a stumping appeal, though Dickwella does not look all that confident.
Akila Dananjaya to Abdur Razzak. The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
Akila Dananjaya to Abdur Razzak. Ohhh.... nearly! Full and straight, skids low, Razzak looks to play the almighty slog sweep but the ball hits the inside edge and scoots past the leg stump to fine leg! Two runs taken.
Abdur Razzak walks in now. What role can he play in the wicket fest?
Akila Dananjaya to Sabbir Rahman. OUT! One more. Number 7 for Bangladesh and number 7 for Dananjaya in this Test. This is landed outside off and Sabbir comes down the track to defend. The ball lands, bounces, takes the inside edge, deflects onto the pads and then lobs to short leg. Thanks for coming.
Mehidy Hasan walks in at number 8, replacing Rahim.
Rangana Herath to Mushfiqur Rahim. OUT! Number 6 goes too! Must be some train leaving from Dhaka. Every batsman is in a hurry. The option of coming down the track far too often has gone against Rahim. Herath lands it on the rough outside off and Mushfiqur is not to the pitch of it. Is beaten comfortably and the ball spins off the rough, goes past the outside edge and Niroshan Dickwella whips off the bails in a flash. WICKET NUMBER 414 FOR HERATH IN TESTS, joint-most with Wasim Akram in terms of dismissals by left-arm bowlers.
Rangana Herath to Mushfiqur Rahim. The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.

Rangana Herath to Mushfiqur Rahim. Full and outside off, watchfully defended.
Akila Dananjaya to Mushfiqur Rahim. Outside off, chopped down to backward point for a single. 25 overs - top half gone. How many overs before the bottom half departs? Don't think Bangladesh could play their 'full' quota of 50 overs.
Akila Dananjaya to Mushfiqur Rahim. Full and outside off, watchfully defended.
Akila Dananjaya to Mushfiqur Rahim. Comes down the track this time and pushes it towards mid on.
Akila Dananjaya to Mushfiqur Rahim. Oohhh... too much fancying. Gets across his stumps, tries to paddle but misses it completely. Luckily for him, the ball misses the leg stump.
Akila Dananjaya to Sabbir Rahman. Full and around off, swept powerfully past short leg, behind square leg for a single to get off the mark and pair.
Sabbir Rahman is the new man in at number 7, replacing his captain. On a pair, is Sabbir.
Akila Dananjaya to Mahmudullah. OUT! Oh dear... half the side gone now! Mahmudullah comes down the track once again but perhaps a second early. Dananjaya sees that and bowls the ball just a bit wider, which means the captain has to reach out to defend. Manages to make contact with the ball but it is off an edge. Straight to first slip.
Rangana Herath to Mushfiqur Rahim. FOUR! Very dangerous. The arm ball, skids on after pitching, Rahim goes back to cut and almost takes it from the off stump. Gets it behind point and raises the BANGLADESH 100. 239 more needed. The partnership is now worth 22 from just 19 balls.
Rangana Herath to Mushfiqur Rahim. FOUR! Rahim into the attack. Comes down the track, gets to the pitch of the ball and lofts it over cover for a boundary!
Rangana Herath to Mushfiqur Rahim. Very full, another smothering defense.

Rangana Herath to Mahmudullah. The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
Rangana Herath to Mushfiqur Rahim. Driven through mid off by the batsman. One run added to the total.
Rangana Herath gets a change of ends.
Akila Dananjaya to Mahmudullah. That's hit the batsman on his pads.
In walks the captain. Mahmudullah needs more than a captain's knock.
Akila Dananjaya to Liton Das. OUT! This time Chittagong and Dhaka unite to connect bat and ball! This is happening all too quickly. Dananjaya has struck in his first over. He lands the ball outside off and Das goes back to defend. But there is extra bounce on that and the wicketkeeper batsman can only fend it straight to short leg. 6 more wickets for a big win.
Akila Dananjaya to Liton Das. Comes down the track to defend but misses and is hit on the pads. The ball lobs to short leg and Dickwella is already appealing even before the catch is taken. The distance between bat and ball could be that of between Chittagong and Dhaka.
Akila Dananjaya to Liton Das. A touch wide outside off, Das lunges and blocks.
Akila Dananjaya to Liton Das. Full and outside off, pushed towards mid off.
Akila Dananjaya to Liton Das. Full on middle, clipped through mid-wicket where Dhananjaya de Silva dives to his right and stops it.
Akila Dananjaya into the attack now.
Dilruwan Perera to Mushfiqur Rahim. Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
Dilruwan Perera to Mushfiqur Rahim. A mild appeal for LBW, but turned down. Landed outside off, Rahim goes back to defend but misses and is hit on the pads. Too high.

Dilruwan Perera to Liton Das. A tad short, Liton goes back and works it behind square leg for a single.
Dilruwan Perera to Liton Das. Full and outside off, Das reaches out and steers it through the covers for a couple. There is definitely some urgency in the running. Aggressive cricket does not always mean boundaries.
Dilruwan Perera to Liton Das. Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
Rangana Herath to Liton Das. Driven through mid off by the batsman. They pick up a single. 6 runs from that over but risk-free. Much better cricket from Bangladesh.

Dilruwan Perera to Liton Das. Landed outside off, spinning in, defended towards short mid-wicket.

Rangana Herath to Mominul Haque. OUT! Who is waiting till 1210 IST? Mominul is out of here. Number 3 goes. And boy, Herath is pumped up. Full and outside off, Mominul pushes at it and misses. Doesn't seem like there is an edge but my colleague Jazzy B is confident that he has heard a noise. Sure enough. Herath and Dickwella go up and the umpire agrees! Mominul does not wait to challenge and walks off. Snickometer shows a tiny spike. Wow. A wicket quickly after the break. Either there is too much wax in my ear or Jazzy B has a wonderful hearing capacity.

Rangana Herath to Mushfiqur Rahim. FOUR! Up and over. No waiting game. This is just the second ball of the session but Rahim is taking Herath on. Comes down the track and smashes this over the top for a boundary. 278 more runs needed. The stand moves to 12.
Rangana Herath to Mushfiqur Rahim. The arm ball to start the session, on middle and off, Rahim looks to defend but the ball skids on and goes off the inside edge. Lands in front of short leg.
The players are out on the field. Rangana Herath to start off proceedings to Mushfiqur Rahim. Here we go.
Welcome back. 7 sessions, 32 wickets. By that calculation, Bangladesh could be 6 or 7 down by Tea. Can they stall the wicket flow? Keep the Lankans wicketless for one session at least? The pitch is not the most difficult to bat on but the home side is making it look like a minefield.
... DAY 3, SESSION 2 ...
One can understand Bangladesh's thinking - attack initially so that the bowlers, especially the spinners, are taken off their lengths and bowl short. But there has to be some proper choice of shots. Cannot attack every ball. Mominul Haque is showing how to play on this pitch and it is nowhere near to the Imrul Kayes' method. Join us back at 1210 local (0610 GMT) for the second session.
Sri Lanka won't mind. The bowling has been excellent so far, being stump-to-stump, with the only complaint being that of Dinesh Chandimal being too defensive with his field placements. As many as 5 of his fielders are protecting the boundary.
Bangladesh did the right thing this morning, wrapping up the Lankan tail for not too many runs. But then, they have come out with an attitude which suggests that they want to chase down 339 tonight itself. Almost every ball, a stroke is being attempted, just to push the fielding captain into being defensive. And the result is that they have lost 2 wickets in 14 overs. Could have lost more, had the Lankans held on to their catches.
Another exhilarating session of cricket. 83 runs, 4 wickets, 25.5 overs. The striking rate with both, bat and ball has been excellent.
Dilruwan Perera to Mominul Haque. The batsman works it down the leg side. LUNCH ON DAY 3!
Dilruwan Perera to Mominul Haque. Outside off, punched off the back foot.
Dilruwan Perera to Mominul Haque. The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
Dilruwan Perera to Mominul Haque. Full and outside off, watchfully defended.
Dilruwan Perera to Mushfiqur Rahim. The batsman has played it to the point region for a single.
Dilruwan Perera to Mushfiqur Rahim. NOT OUT. No inside edge. Snicko confirms. Cannot blame the Sri Lankans. Almost every ball looks like it will produce a wicket. A tad short, around off, spinning in, Rahim goes back to flick but he misses. The ball goes off something and Kusal Mendis at short leg dives to take it. The Lankans appeal for the catch but the umpire shakes his head. Mendis is confident and Chandimal immediately goes for the review. However, Snickometer does not detect any spike when the ball is near the bat. Review lost by Sri Lanka.
Is that out? Sri Lanka are confident that they have another. The umpire does not think so and the visitors are taking a review against a caught decision.
Rangana Herath to Mominul Haque. The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
Rangana Herath to Mominul Haque. Full on middle, pushed straight to mid on.

Mushfiqur Rahim walks in at number 4, replacing Kayes.
Rangana Herath to Imrul Kayes. OUT! Brilliant catch! And the veteran has his first in the game. You can never keep him out of the contest. After a wicketless first innings, Herath has struck in his third over in the second. Full and outside off, Kayes pushes at it and gets a thin outside edge. This time Niroshan Dickwella reacts in a flash to take the catch and immediately leaps in jubilation. The dropped catch earlier does not count much. Kayes never looked comfortable - today, day before yesterday or even in the first Test.
