... Day 1, Session 3 ...
It is imperative to know the right pace to bowl on a track and Sri Lanka have erred just there. Their spinners have been guilty of being a touch too short on a slow-paced track and have paid the price. In the first session, at least their pacers looked like picking up a wicket. In this one, no one seemed threatening. To say that all their bowlers looked flat, is an understatement. Will the final session see a change in the narrative? We'll be glad to have you with us shortly, as it gets unveiled.
Bangladesh's session without an ounce of doubt. They continued to run riot with the bat, a run rate of close to 4.50 an over shows just that. Mominul Haque brought up an attacking ton, his 5th in Tests, while Mushfiqur Rahim is three shy of his fifty. They are amidst an undefeated 130-run partnership and seem difficult to get dislodged from the crease. Both of them have matched each other stroke for stroke, although the former skipper has been watchful in his stint so far. The southpaw has been at his attacking best.

Lahiru Kumara to Imrul Kayes. Wide! We saw Kumara bending his back in his previous spell and does so again. The effort, however, was too much as this has been called as a wide. Digs in a short ball on off, it bounces too much as Imrul sits under it.

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Highlights And Cricket Score 1st Match - Test Commentary
So, what do we have in store now? Sri Lanka will have to bat well, something that they are capable of. This has to be done after being on the field for close to 130 overs. Let's see what do the tourists have to offer, as Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis walk out with the bat. Remember, the Bangladeshi bowlers could be more than a handful in known conditions.
Mahmudullah walked in when his side was 356/4. He batted well with the lower order, stitching important stands with them. The one worth 58 with Sunzamul Islam made sure that the Lankans toiled hard on the field. Unfortunately for him, he couldn't get to the coveted ton. There is nothing great to write home about the visiting bowlers, who largely looked toothless. Rangana Herath and Suranga Lakmal returned with three apiece for them.
A very good score for the hosts, something that should have the tourists worried. Bangladesh have done just what they had set out to do after winning the toss yesterday. Their top four scored above 40s and that laid them the platform. Aided by a monumental stand between Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim, that was worth 236 runs, the hosts tired out the opposing bowlers. Haque stroked his way to a well-compiled 176 and would be ruing missing out on his double ton. Rahim should also be cursing himself to have thrown it away at the fag end on Day 1.
Suranga Lakmal to Mustafizur Rahman. Nice shot? Oh no! BANGLADESH ALL OUT! This is banged short again on the stumps, Rahman initially looks to duck. As an afterthought, he decides to play the ramp over the keeper and that's that. Doesn't make the contact as he would have liked and ends up hitting it in the air to offer an easy catch to Dickwella. So, to add to the list of Rahim and Haque, who missed out getting to their milestones, add Mahmudullah, who is left stranded 17 runs short of the triple figure mark. The hosts finish on 513.
Suranga Lakmal to Mustafizur Rahman. WIDE! Bouncer on off, Rahman ducks and lets it go. Wide given for height.

... Day 2, Session 2 ...
The tourists looked like running through Bangladesh's lower order, when they struck quickly, courtesy the wily old fox Rangana Herath, who picked up a couple of wickets to get his name in the wickets' column. He is constantly getting something out of the track, that is slowing down considerably. What should worry them, however, is that none of the others have looked threatening for a considerable time. With the position that the hosts find themselves in, we can expect some quick runs in the post-lunch session. Do join us then to see if Sri Lanka have it in them to see the end of this innings quickly.
Comeback and fightback - the tale of the morning. Sri Lanka started the day on a positive note by landing crucial blows quickly. At the end of the first hour, they were successful in picking up three wickets, conceding just 43 in 12.2 overs. But post that, the script came back to normal, as the hosts continued to amass more runs. Mahmudullah and Sunzamul Islam have added 50 for the 8th wicket and are looking too good to be dislodged. Mominul Haque, sadly for them, couldn't add much to his overnight score and was the first one to depart this morning.

Lakshan Sandakan to Sunzamul Islam. NOT OUT! Excellent umpiring from Rod Tucker. Sandakan tosses up a wrong 'un around off, Islam lunges forward to play for the conventional spin. Misses and gets rapped on the front pad and the ball goes to the slip fielder. The Lankans appeal to no avail. Chandimal immediately opts for the DRS. The TV umpire asks the on-field umpire whether it is referred for a catch or LBW. Gets confirmation that it is for the former. The Snicko is used to see that there is no inside edge. In fact, there is a huge daylight between bat and the ball. Now, the LBW is checked and the Ball Tracker shows that it would have gone down leg. So the on-field call stays and Sri Lanka lose a review. Mr. Tucker has been good on the field so far. Yesterday he spotted that the visitors had more-than-permissible number of players behind square on the leg side and ruled it a no ball and now this one. Well done, sir!

Nice point. The pitch has showed its treacherous side today. Earlier in the pitch report this morning, Tino Mawoyo cited variable bounce that could be a factor and that's what we saw on more than one occasions so far. Lakmal bowled a short delivery that failed to climb up and almost slid through on its way to the keeper. Another one from a similar spot rose to such an extent that the batter had to keep it out awkwardly even with a hop. Wonder if this would excite the Lankans or worry them, as they would be batting at some point today.

PITCH REPORT - Tino Mawoyo says it's still a batting paradise and the conditions haven't changed a lot. Adds there was some variable bounce on offer from the good length area yesterday and feels as the game progresses, the pacers will have their say.
Day 1 was all about the batters dictating terms. Everyone came in and had fun apart from Liton Das. The hosts are well on course to post a huge first innings total and they have Mominul Haque who is leading the way with an unbeaten 175. Sri Lanka would be looking to come out afresh and make the second new ball, which is just 60 balls old, count. Can Sri Lanka enforce a collapse from hereon? Hello and welcome to our coverage of the second day's play. Stay with us as the action isn't that far away...
... Day 2, Session 1 ...
Right then! Quick wickets shall be the key for the visitors and if they manage to do so early in the morning tomorrow, they will still feel they are in the game. Will they be able to restrict the hosts or will Bangladesh continue to march on? We shall find out tomorrow on day 2. Join us at 0930 Local (0330 GMT) to catch all the action. Until then, goodbye and cheers!
The Sri Lankans, after being made to toil hard, needed someone to lift them up again. The second new ball did the trick for them late in the day. It was Suranga Lakmal who struck twice in successive balls and importantly he broke the massive 236-run stand. Liton Das bagged a golden duck but Haque and Mahmudullah then did well to see off the remainder of the day. All the bowlers had a tough day at the office. Dilruwan Perera and Lakshan Sandakan got the first two wickets but then failed to make any impact. Lahiru Kumara was very inconsistent and went for aplenty. The wily spinner, too, didn't look penetrative enough and as a result they let Bangladesh dominate the day.
Mominul Haque walked out with other ideas. He stepped on the gas and accelerated as soon as he got into the groove to keep the visitors' bowlers at bay. Mushfiqur Rahim gave him perfect company as the pair toyed with and ripped the bowling apart. The pitch hardly had anything in it but it still required some batting to get runs. Both of them motored along at a healthy run rate and broke a few records in the process.
That ends the proceedings on the opening day of the Test. Bangladesh are the ones who take the honours as they make the most of winning the toss and electing to bat by posting a big total on the board. Mind you, they aren't done yet. It all started with Tamim Iqbal in the morning who came out with a lot intent. He blazed a quick fifty to give his team an ideal start. Imrul Kayes played well for his 40 but both the openers were sent back in the first session and it seemed like Sri Lanka have got the opening.
Suranga Lakmal to Mahmudullah. Fuller in length and drifting a bit on the pads, Mahmudullah shuffles a touch and clips it towards the man at backward square leg. STUMPS ON DAY 1!

So, last over of the day is coming up. Will Sri Lanka send half the Bangladesh side back in the hut? Here comes Lakmal...

Suranga Lakmal to Mominul Haque. Haque almost edges this! Lovely piece of bowling from the Lankan vice-captain! He slants it away in the tempting line outside off, Haque looks to play at it but the ball leaves the southpaw and whizzes past the outside edge of his bat.
Rangana Herath to Mahmudullah. FOUR! Back-to-back boundaries! Slower through the air, around middle and off. Mahmudullah punches it towards mid on where Kumara makes a meal of it. Lets it through and then gives it a long chase. He slides and pulls the ball back in play at long on. Rangana Herath to Mahmudullah. FOUR! Good looking shot! Flighted ball around middle and off, Mahmudullah comes down the track and lofts it over mid on to get off the mark in style.
Rangana Herath to Mahmudullah. Almost... almost another! Herath has his hands on his head in disbelief! He bowls a slider, Mahmudullah didn't read it at all. Suranga Lakmal to Liton Das. OUT! Off stump goes for a walk! One brings two as the saying goes! An error in judgement from Das means that Lakmal now will be on a hat-trick in the next over. Sri Lanka rejoice! Lakmal hurls a length ball outside off, Liton Das leans forward and thinks that he has his off stump covered but the ball nips back in to take it apart. Das walks back for a golden duck, which happens to be the first blob in his Test career. Can Sri Lanka pick up another?
Liton Das walks out to bat next.
Suranga Lakmal to Mushfiqur Rahim. OUT! Lakmal induces an edge! Finally, finally Sri Lanka taste success after the first session today. Suranga keeps it on a length and in the avenue of apprehension. Rahim with no feet movement goes after this one. The ball bounces just a bit more, takes the outer half of the bat and settles into the mitts of Dickwella behind. The second new ball has done the trick for Sri Lanka. Rahim stands there in dismay as he misses out on a deserving ton. This is the third time in Tests that Rahim has been dismissed in the nervous nineties. Seemed like it was a lapse in concentration from the wicket-keeper batsman. Nonetheless, the 236-run stand has been broken.
