Shaun Pollock has Kagiso Rabada for an interview who says that it would have been nice if they had taken the three wickets in the first 10 overs but they took time to take those wickets. Further goes on to say that there is always an area to improve. Adds that in India, they are never really in the game and says that they need to stick to their plans. On the partnership between Rahane and Rohit, he points out that they are not too perturbed as these kind of partnerships happen in India and they need to find ways to break the partnerships especially when there is no reverse swing on offer for them.

Pitch report - Sanjay Manjrekar says that the weather is cooler than the first day. Gavaskar joins Manjrekar for the report. The Indian legend points that there are spots where the cracks are opening up but they are holding up nicely. He adds that if the bowlers pitch the ball on good length areas, the wicket will assist them. However, points that there are plenty of runs still on offer on this track.

A session to South Africa. And then it was all about India. Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane after battling out the first session took the attack to the opposition and helped India get an upper hand before weather interrupted play and forced an early Stumps. That's all from our coverage of Day 1 of the Test match between India and South Africa. The news is that 98 overs will be bowled on Day 2 but there will not be an early start with a chance to extend play till half past five. Join us for an exciting Day 2 at 0930 local (0400 GMT).

The visitors, on the other hand, started well with the ball picking up early wickets but all the hard work that they had done was put off by the brilliance of Rahane and Rohit. Rabada was the pick of the bowlers while Nortje was good in patches. The debutant, George Linde could not make much of an impact while Dane Piedt was taken apart by the Hitman. Going into Day 2, They would hope to get wickets as quickly as possible otherwise India will run away with the game yet again.

So the day has belonged to India after being in trouble at the start of the game having lost three wickets early on. But since then, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane made merry off the bowling and milked runs with ease. Rohit went on to register his third Test century as an opener while Rahane has looked good in his unbeaten 83. They would hope to continue the good work on Day 2 as well.

India were put under pressure by the South African bowlers and they crumbled a bit with the wickets of their in-form batsmen. Rohit, after an edgy start has started to look good and with Rahane for company, they will look to consolidate the innings further. Another exciting session awaits us. Finally, a session which has belonged to the Proteas on Day 1 of this Test series. Their opening bowlers, especially Rabada were brilliant and took three important wickets of Agarwal, Pujara and Kohli. Faf du Plessis, the Protea skipper, starts by saying that he is trying everything to win the Toss but believes that maybe it isn't meant to be. On the team composition, Faf points out that, Quinton de Kock is set to open the innings for his side and will try to take the Indian bowlers on, as Rohit Sharma has done for the Indians. Du Plessis further adds that Heinrich Klaasen and George Linde are the two debutants in the side while Lungi Ngidi replaces Vernon Philander.

Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper opts to bat first. Starts by saying that the pitch will start slowing down from day 2 and hence it is no brainer. The Indian skipper believes there will be sharp spin on offer on this track. Reveals that Ishant makes way for local lad Shahbaz Nadeem. Indian skipper adds that they will have to work hard and they will try to win sessions to win the game.

Toss - The South African skipper is in for the Toss but interestingly, he has Temba Bavuma as a lucky charm for the Toss. Interesting to see if the luck changes for him. Up goes the coin and again it is Kohli who wins the toss as Temba Bavuma calls the wrong side. INDIA OPT TO BAT FIRST.

Pitch Report - Sanjay Manjrekar has Sunil Gavaskar for company for the Pitch Report. The former India legend says that there are plenty of cracks on the first day pitch itself. Gavaskar believes that there will be uneven bounce and hence the batters will have to apply themselves to score runs. Adds that the track will be a spinners' paradise.

It's almost time for the final Test of the series. The results have been the way it was expected but one would've hoped for a better showing from the Proteas. Now, the caravan has moved to Ranchi for the final Test of the series and the South Africans have another chance. What about India then? Pitch report - Sanjay Manjrekar is near the pitch, says that the pitch has not changed due to the rain overnight. Says that there might be some explosions off the pitch. Further says that the cracks has not opened as it was supposed to.

Enoch Nkwe, the South African team director is there for an interview with Shaun Pollock. Nkwe starts by saying that India have played really well and they need to try to make a match out of it but there is no excuse of playing poorly. Further goes on to say that they need to keep putting pressure on India. Adds that they lost early wickets.

The pitch was covered in the morning due to some drizzle in the morning but that has cleared up. The covers have been removed and we will have a start on time.

South Africa have not turned up at all in this Test series and here it is no different. After a good start, they were taken apart by Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane as India posted a mammoth total. And, when they came to bat, they lost two quick wickets before bad light forced early Stumps on Day 2. Now, for them to stand any chance, their skipper, Faf du Plessis needs to stand up and deliver for his side and hope for some support from the other end as well. ... Day 3, Session 1 ...

Now, on both the days, rain arrived in the final session. That can happen on Day 3 too. With rain around the corner on all the three remaining days, the Indians would look to bundle the visitors quickly and think of enforcing a follow-on. The way the Indian bowlers are bowling, that is possible too. What about the remaining South African batters. Faf du Plessis will have to lead from the front if he wants his side to give any fight to the Indians. He will hope to get help from others around him too. Let us see what we have in store on Day 3. Ajinkya Rahane joins Murali Kartik for an interview. He starts by saying that he is happy with his performance. States that him and Rohit wanted to see off the first half hour of the first session. Talking about his ton, Ajinkya says that he was feeling well and wanted to counter-attack post Lunch. Adds that the partnership between the two was very important. On being asked about his cover drives, Rahane points out that his flick between mid-wicket and mid on is his favorite shot. On Rohit opening, he answers that he is very happy for Rohit Sharma as he has taken the opportunity with both hands. On the pitch, Jinx says that the ball kept low early on. Points that if the bowlers can bowl wicket-to-wicket, things won't be easy for the batters. Talking about the two wickets the Indians got, Rahane says that it was amazing to see the pacers get wickets on bouncers.

The South African bowlers looked helpless against Rohit and Rahane. None of them troubled the duo. Once Rohit was dismissed, their bowlers managed to stem the run flow. George Linde got four on debut but not before getting the stick from Umesh Yadav.

What happened before that? Ajinkya Rahane raked up a Test ton at home. Rohit Sharma brought up his maiden double ton. Runs kept coming as Jadeja got to his half ton before getting out. Umesh Yadav came, he hammered Linde for 5 sixes in 8 balls before perishing. Kohli eventually declared the Indian innings for 497 runs.

But not before the Indian bowlers, Shami and Yadav have managed to send the two Saffa openers packing. There could've been more casualties but due to bad light, Kohli had to take the pacers off. And then, after just three more overs, the light deteriorated further and the umpires decided to stop play.

So, like Day 1, the final session has been cut short, due to bad light and a slight drizzle. STUMPS IT IS!
