With dew coming into the picture during the run chase, the Indians will fancy the chase with the kind of batting lineup they have. The opening stand for them will be the key. Interesting to see how the Indians approach the run chase. Can they win the first game of their home season or will the visitors be able to make a winning start to the tour? Temba Bavuma is down there for an interview with Shaun Pollock. He says that he is happy with his performance but wanted to do bit more for the team. Says that Quinton's innings helped him to settle down and the tour here with the A team helped him to acclimatize to the conditions. Further says that the pitch was a good one to bat on but got difficult as the ball started to stop on the surface.
For the hosts, Navdeep Saini (barring the last over), Deepak Chahar and Hardik Pandya were excellent in the final overs. In the spin department, Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja made sure the run scoring was always under check.
Skipper Quinton de Kock along with Reeza Hendricks started the innings with a bang. The South African skipper looked on song from the start and raked up a top notch half century. He along with Bavuma added a crucial 57-run stand. The visitors were looking on track but the wicket of de Kock brought down the run rate and good smart bowling from the Indians strangled the run scoring.
A last over flourish would mean that South Africa has a decent total to defend. They were pushed back by the Indian bowlers during the middle overs but they would take this score after the crumble.

Quinton de Kock starts by saying he is enjoying the captaincy responsibility. De Kock says that the senior members like him, Miller and Rabada keep sharing whatever they have learned over the years with the youngsters. Adds that while the side is full of the youngsters, they will be very competitive. Confirms that they have three debutants in the side.
Kohli says that the surface is hard and looking good to bat. He feels that the dew can come into play later in the second innings. Adds that Mohali being a chasing ground is one of the reasons why he is opting to bowl first. On reminded about the T20 match against Australia during World T20 in 2016, Kohli says that he remembers it well and it was one of the best matches he has been part of. Kohli reveals that Manish Pandey, KL Rahul, Khaleel Ahmed and Rahul Chahar are the players who miss out.

After a no show at Dharamshala because of the rain, the T20 caravan has arrived in Mohali where the weather looks pretty good and we will be having some show from both the sides. The Men in Blue look far superior in the batting department. However, they have gone for a lesser experienced bowling unit as they have rested the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. With the T20 World Cup in sight, they have quite a few games to test their strengths in the bowling department. Indian skipper, VIRAT KOHLI IS THE MAN OF THE MATCH! Starts by reminding about the 2016 T20 match against Australia. Says that when you play like that and finish the game off, it's a great feeling. Tells that it was a slightly better pitch and the outfield was slightly quicker than that day and there was a good value for shots. On the new faces in the team, Kohli tells that they showed a lot of character to pull things back after a good start from South Africa. Counts that as positive signs. On his batting consistency, Kohli replies that it's the badge in front of his shirt, that is India and the pride to play for the country. Feels that adapting to different formats is nothing but all about the mindset. South African skipper, Quinton de Kock says that they got off to a good start but towards the latter end of the innings India bowled really well. Hopes to improve in the next game. On Temba Bavuma and other debutants, he replies that there was a lot of pressure on them, especially against India, who are world-class. On his bowling attack, de Kock replies that Rabada tried his best up front but didn't get the wickets unfortunately and with his pace, it was easier for the batsmen. On his own batting, de Kock tells that it was nice to get some time off after the World Cup and he was hungry to get runs and hopes to do even better in the next match.
Shikhar Dhawan gives a quick interview to Sanjay Manjrekar. Says that it was a good start for them and he was enjoying his batting. Feels it's good to get a good start to the home season and is looking forward to more of the same. On facing the South African quicks, Dhawan replies that they practice a lot against good pace in the nets and that's why they can counter the pace of the South African speedsters. Adds that it's a good feeling to hit the ball nicely. On his and Kohli's reaction on that Miller catch, Dhawan smiles and says that he always smiles irrespective whether he is out or not and in this case, he appreciated Miller's effort in that smile.
It was a listless performance by South Africa. Their batting, barring the knocks of Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma, showed little fight and when it came to defending a below par total, their bowlers faltered as well. They are the underdogs in this series but one expects a better challenge from the boys coming from the rainbow nation. Earlier, the Indian bowlers did a commendable job, especially in the middle overs, to stifle South Africa and that never allowed the Proteas the kind of finish they desired.
A walk in the park for India! They were never challenged in their run chase and scaled it down with utmost ease. It was a below par target and once the Indian openers provided a brisk start, the visitors were on the back foot.
