Good morning folks! India were absolutely dominant on Day 1, crossing the 200-run mark without losing any wickets. They certainly looked like adding more to the score before the heavens opened up and washed out the third session. Rohit Sharma silenced his critics with a wonderful unbeaten century and would be looking to add more to his tally today. His partner, Mayank Agarwal is close to reaching his first Test ton and would be hoping to accomplish the milestone early in the first session. The Proteas had a horrid time yesterday with none of their bowlers having a good day. They would be hoping for a better performance as this match is slowly getting out of hand. Day 1 though was all about the Indians. Everything went right for them. They won the toss, elected to bat and their two openers are still unbeaten. One crossed his ton in his first game as an opener and the other is eyeing his first in Tests. The openers have taken India from strength to strength. The second session too belongs to India. Hitman, looks on course to be the solution to India's opening dilemma. It was a big call and Sharma's century further vindicates the team management's decision. Mayank Agarwal, with 84 has been the perfect foil to this 202-run stand. The Proteas' spinners toiled hard through the session but they haven't troubled the Indian openers enough. However, just as a few half-chances chances seem to be getting created, the umpires went off the field for bad light. Let's hope, the sun comes back out and we get some action quickly. South Africa, on the other hand, did start off really well, their pacers were brilliant with the new ball. However, once the shine came off and the ball stopped seaming around, their bowlers looked ineffective. The spinners haven't got a lot out of the wicket and hence, have been negotiated with ease. India's session without a doubt! Exactly the kind of start they would have wanted after winning the toss and electing to bat. Their openers did struggle a bit against the moving ball but did not lose their wicket. Once the conditions got easy, runs came thick and fast, especially for Rohit who played the spinners really well. Sharma got to an excellent fifty in his first innings as a Test opener. Credit to Agarwal as well, he too has played sensibly and both the batsmen are on the verge of laying down a platform for a big first innings score.

Faf du Plessis, the Protea skipper, starts by saying that his Toss record is not pretty good in the sub-continent. Adds that few of the players who came here last time have retired and the younger side has a great challenge in front of them. On their playing XI, Faf says that because of the dry surface, they are going with three spinners and two pacers in their team.

The Indian skipper, Kohli says that it's no-brainer. Feels that the wicket is looking good to bat. On the team, Kohli says that Rohit has an excellent opportunity at the top and the team is looking forward to see him. On Saha, Kohli says that he went out because of the injury but remains the best wicket-keeper batter in the world. Talking about the opponents, Kohli says that they are a tough side and it will be hard grind for everyone.

Pitch report - Murali Kartik is in with the pitch report. He starts by saying that the pitch is always the talk of the town in India. Gavaskar joins him and says that the pitch looks dry and there is hardly any grass. Gavaskar adds that batting will be easy on Day 1. Adds that there are few cracks which will open up as we move ahead. Gavaskar reckons that batting will become difficult from the final session on Day 2. While the spinners will have their say, Sunny G points out that if the pacers use the bouncers well, they can trouble the batters. He says that bat first after winning the toss and post 450 odd runs and the game will be in the grip of the team.

Time for some red-ball action then. The hosts are in red hot form. At home, they are almost invincible. The visitors, they fought well in the T20I series but this is Test cricket. The inexperienced side will look to offer similar resistance to this strong Indian unit. Last time, when they had big names like Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers, Indians had blown them away. The Indian team will be disappointed after dominating the first two days. Ashwin came out as the star with the ball as he took 7 wickets in all. Jadeja took a couple of wickets and Ishant Sharma took a single wicket. Join us in a short while for the Indian team's response as they will come out to bat for their second innings. A look back at the South African innings. The Indian spinners started well as they got the visitors reeling at 63/4. However, after that the fightback from the visitors started as they notched up two 100-plus stands and came back into the game. The skipper, Faf du Plessis lead the way by scoring a half century. Quinton de Kock scored a ton but the star of the show was Dean Elgar who was at the crease for the longest time of the three as he scored a daddy hundred. Muthusamy and Kagiso Rabada also contributed some vital runs at the end, reducing the deficit for the visitors.

So, the South African innings has come to a close but much later than a lot of people expected. They have scored 431 and India lead by 71 runs. The hosts will be looking to add at least another 200 runs to this score before giving the South Africans a chance to bat again.

Pitch report - Murali Kartik is down with the Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar for the pitch report. Mr. Gavaskar suggests that it looks like more wickets will fall on Day 4 as the cracks have opened up even more. The ball will grip and spin just like on Day 3. Further suggests that the key for the bowlers is to get the batsmen committed on playing strokes and then the bowlers stand a greater chance of taking wickets. Mentions that the ball should be given a lot of air just like Ashwin was doing yesterday. Gavaskar feels that India will be looking to give a target of around 300 to the visitors.

Day 3 belonged to South Africa as they brought the match closer to a draw but with still two innings and six sessions to go, a lot of time is left in the Test match. The standout performers for the Proteas were centurions Dean Elgar and Quinton de Kock but one cannot forget how Faf du Plessis showed how to take the attack to the opposition. Ashwin proved to be one of the few positives for India as he took his 27th 5-fer but there were a few dropped catches from the hosts which would not please their skipper, Virat Kohli.

Welcome to Day 4 of the first Test match between India and South Africa. It has been a riveting contest so far as the momentum has swung like a pendulum. After the first two days when everyone expected South Africa to tumble over, they have proved to be stubborn and the experienced players have given the young guns in their squad a testament of how to overcome all kinds of difficulties. So, what is in store for us on Day 4? South Africa looked to be on the ropes but they showed a great 'never say die' attitude to harass the Indian players. As for India, they are now in a limbo about what will be their gameplan. Day 4 could prove to be the most crucial day of this Test thus far. Dean Elgar is down for a chat with Sanjay Manjrekar. Thanks Sanjay for his congratulations but then says that the last time he came to India, he was less experienced. But since then, going around the world and playing county cricket has made him much more experienced. On the wickets to be used in India as a suggestion, Elgar smiles and says that definitely not those which were used in 2015! But on a serious note, Dean says that one needs to graft and get used to the pitch and then play his shots. Credits county cricket for enabling him to become a better player. On him hitting the ball in the air and attacking the spinners, Elgar says that these are one of the best batting conditions in Vizag and also that if you attack the spinners, they tend to lose their line. On Quinton de Kock, he calls him a genius with the bat and is certainly not surprised to see him score a century.

As for the Indian bowling, it was a mixed bag. They started well as Ishant Sharma dismissed Bavuma early in the day but after the attack from the South African batters started, they lost their way. They gave away runs freely and could not get a grip on the game. The experienced trio of South Africa was the first real test for them in the game and they were comfortably outplayed by them as they pulled the visitors from a crisis to a more than comfortable position. However, if one bowler is there who does deserve credit is Ravichandran Ashwin who persisted for long spells and got his rewards from time to time as he took a 5-fer and troubled the tail-enders late in the day.

During the first session of the day, everyone expected India to come in and roll over the visitors' batting lineup. However, after the early wicket of Temba Bavuma, the real resistance for them began. Dean Elgar and Faf du Plessis counter-attacked the Indian spin bowling and especially India's ace spin bowler, Ravichandran Ashwin. They stitched a huge partnership of 115 and showed the hosts that they are here to fight and not bow down. Following the departure of the Protean skipper on 55, Quinton de Kock came in and attacked the Indian bowlers as well not letting them settle as he scored 111. The star for the visitors although has to be Dean Elgar who played out an innings of grit as well as style to battle his way through the tough spell on Day 2 and early on Day 3. He made 160 runs and has shown the visitors how to battle against this world class Indian bowling attack.

Stumps on Day 3 and a totally unexpected turnaround as South Africa have fought their way back into the game. Ashwin leads India off the park after taking a 5-fer and it has been a riveting day where both the sides fought hard.
