Australia vs South Africa Highlights And Cricket Score 1st Match - ODI Commentary

End of Over : 38.1 AUS: 152/10

Dale Steyn feels they bowled really well. Reckons there is runs on offer but their bowlers were spot on. Mentions he got lucky with his second wicket. Adds further Australia lost a few early wickets and then the going got tough for them. Ends by saying it is a good wicket but they have to get through the tricky period of batting before the break first.

No Australian batsman looked settled at the crease. Alex Carey tried to fight hard while Nathan Coulter-Nile once again ended up being the top scorer of the innings. The rest were simply consumed by the pace and movement. Here is Dale Steyn catching up for an interview.

Fast. Furious. Fanatic. Fantastic. Pacey. Wow. This is cricket in Australia and at the WACA. The earlier track was known for pace and bounce and this new one has shown us just that today. Dale Steyn was in and at the Aussie batsmen, removing the top order quickly, while Lungi Ngidi partnered him tremendously. The surprise pick was Andile Phehlukwayo, who ran through the middle order and did not allow the Aussies to recover.

South Africa will bat for around 20 minutes till the scheduled Lunch break. Australia might look at that as an opportunity to pick up a wicket or two and then get into that brittle middle order. But for now, let us talk about their bowling.

Lungi Ngidi to Chris Lynn. DROPPED? Probably not. Bye signalled. On a length outside off, Lynn looks to defend but the ball jags back in sharply. There is a noise as the ball goes past the batsman and flies to the keeper, who, in turn, flies to his left but cannot hang on. Ngidi was about to appeal for the catch but then has his hands on his head. Everyone is closely looking at the umpire but he signals a bye. Replays detect that the ball hit the shirt. 7.6 2

Kagiso Rabada to Chris Lynn. A couple to end the over! Rabada goes for the yorker but ends up bowling a full toss. Lynn flicks it through wide mid on and takes a couple. So even the full toss is not being put away, the Australians are playing with a cautious mindset at the moment.

Alex Carey is the new man in.

5.5 W

Lungi Ngidi to Aaron Finch. OUT! LBW! Another one bites the dust and it is the big one, of the Australian skipper. Ngidi gets his first and the new-ball bowlers are wrecking havoc here. This was nicely set up, he kept bowling the awayswingers but this time gets it to jag back in after pitching on a length and around off. Finch is not able to adjust to the movement and he fails to put bat on ball. It hits him on the pads. The players appeal and the umpire raises his finger. Finch has a word with Lynn and then starts walking. But hold on.. replays show the ball to be going over. Now then, Finch is arguably Australia's best batsman, wonder why he did not take the review. South Africa won't care though and Australia slip further.

5.4 0

2.5 W

Dale Steyn to D'Arcy Short. OUT! Two in the over and Steyn is breathing fire here. D'Arcy Short bags a duck and Australia are in trouble early. A similar delivery to the one he got Head with. This though is even wider. Short goes for a booming drive but the ball takes a thick outside edge and flies towards Faf at second slip. He takes a tumbling catch. The South Africans are ecstatic.

Chris Lynn strides out to the middle.

2.4 0

D'Arcy Short makes his way out to the middle.

TOSS - South Africa win the toss and elect to field. They have gone in with three pacers and a specialist spinner. The Aussies on the flip side, have not picked a specialist spinner and have gone in with 4 quicks. However, both the sides have exciting bowling line-ups and it should be treat to watch.

Hello and welcome to the coverage of the first ODI between Australia and South Africa in Perth. The hosts are going through a rough patch at the moment, especially in this format. They will be eager to start on a good note here. The visitors on the other hand, head into the series after demolishing Zimbabwe. This however, will be more of a challenge. They though will be high in confidence and one can say, they enter into the contest as favorites. Who will have the edge after ODI no. 1? Stay tuned to find out.

End of Over : 29.2 SA: 153/4

So that is it from this game. The South Africans have cruised to victory and taken a 1-0 lead. They now have a chance to seal the series in the next game which will be played on the 9th of November at 1.50 PM local (3.20 AM GMT). However for now, you can switch tabs and watch the Test match between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Take care and cheers.

DALE STEYN HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Is first of all, relieved that he has been able to finish a match in Australia without breaking down. Says that the bowlers were excited to get the first use of the wicket and even though there were runs to be scored on this pitch, if the balls were pitched in the right areas, you could get wickets. Does not believe that the wickets he got were his best balls and notes that Head and Short played straight and hence got out. Observes that Carey played square, hence got the runs. So that was the small difference. Is happy to keep the Australian batsmen quiet as he reckons that they are bullies in domestic cricket. On the camaraderie with his bowling mates, Steyn says that he always challenges them to try and take the next wicket first.

Victorious South African skipper Faf du Plessis is very happy with the team's display. Is even happier to have Dale Steyn back but is proud of the way all his three seamers bowled. On Hendricks' batting, Faf says that on surfaces like these, where the bounce is tricky, he batted like an experienced individual. Is happy to have taken a couple of good catches. On the overall display, he feels that towards the end, the Proteas let it slip a bit, as they could have won by 8 wickets but will take the win.

Australian captain, Aaron Finch admits that he is disappointed as the team did not play anywhere near its potential. Praises the South African bowling for putting the Aussies on the back foot early. On the message to his team, Aaron says that the loss is a great opportunity to learn and all they can do now is train harder, do the basics, pay a little bit of more attention to detail and come back fresh for the second ODI in Adelaide. Is harsh on his bowlers, clearly not happy with the way they gave away free runs. Dodges the question of not opening with Mitchell Starc. Hopes to come back hard in the next game.

Marcus Stoinis who is now giving for interview, says today was disappointing. Adds further they still have two games left and will look to bounce back. Reckons the wicket was a tough one to bat on. He believes the whole team together is responsible for this loss. He feels good to take the wickets he did. Ends by saying the coach will have a chat with the team and they hope to recover and come out fighting in the next game.

Quinton de Kock who is up for an interview, says the start with the ball and the bat was very crucial. Mentions he is disappointed with how he got out as he feels he could have been there till the end. Reckons Australia will surely come out fighting in the next game and they can't be taken lightly. Credits the way Rabada bowled.

Defending a paltry total, Australia needed wickets early but that was not the case. Their bowlers could not repeat the heroics of their opposition bowlers. They bowled well in patches but there were quite a few poor deliveries too. Pat Cummins did impress but he was unlucky. Stoinis had a three-fer to his name but by then, the game was probably done and dusted.

South Africa's batsman also did not disappoint as their openers did the bulk of the scoring. The two will be disappointed to miss out on half tons but their 94-run stand more-or-less sealed the deal. They did lose a couple of quick wickets in the end but by that time, it was probably too late.

How easy was that for South Africa? They have chased this total down with ease. They looked like they were batting on completely different strip to that of the Australians. After bundling the hosts out for a very low total, with every bowler except for Rabada taking wickets. Steyn set the tone at the start and they never let the momentum slip after that. Andile Phehlukwayo was the one with the most wickets to his name as he finished with three. The rest, including, Rabada were equally impressive. It is them who set this up for their batters.

29.2 2

Marcus Stoinis to David Miller. That is it! Miller finishes it off on his very first ball. Gets a gift to do so, on the pads, Miller flicks it through square leg and takes two. Customary handshakes taking place as SOUTH AFRICA WIN BY 6 WICKETS!

David Miller is the new man in.

29.1 W

Marcus Stoinis to Heinrich Klaasen. OUT! There goes another one! It though won't make a difference in the context of the game. But delight for Stoinis as he gets his third. ChuriTheKnife - This has been an awesome performance by South Africa. Do you think they can lift the World Cup this time? @ChuriTheKnife - Ummmm.... not too sure. They have played well but Australia have been sub-standard. Hard to keep SA as favourites with India and England in such good form.

Marcus Stoinis to Reeza Hendricks. OUT! And now, Hendricks departs. Like de Kock, he too, misses out on his half century. A length ball, on middle and leg, Hendricks looks to work it to the leg side but the ball bounces from nowhere. Probably hit that spot on the pitch where the explosions have been taking place. As a result, the ball flies off the top portion of the bat towards mid on where Chris Lynn does the rest. Something for the Aussies to smile. Certainly Marcus Stoinis is pumped up.
