Pakistan vs South Africa Highlights And Cricket Score 2nd Match - Test Commentary
All the South Africa pacers had at least a wicket to their name. Olivier was once again the star man as he finished with a 4-fer. Steyn also finished with 3 and the other two took 3 in total. The bowlers now have done their job, it is up to the batsmen now. The hosts would be looking to get a good lead but it won't be easy against a good Pakistan attack and also on a wicket which is good for bowling. Will we see the ball dominate once again or will the batters come to the fore this time? Join us in the second innings to find out.
End of another outstanding effort with the ball and another poor batting display from the visitors. It is South Africa who walk off the field as the happier side and rightly so. Their pacers have justified their skipper's decision to bowl first. They ran through the top order and had Pakistan reeling at 54/5. However, a counter-attacking partnership between Masood and Sarfraz did give some respectability to their score. The former missed out on a half ton, whereas the skipper continued and got to one. He built another handy stand with Amir but once the wicket-keeper batsman fell, South Africa managed to wrap things up quickly.
Dale Steyn to Shaheen Afridi. OUT! Steyn takes the last wicket and Afridi departs. The pacer bangs it short on middle, Afridi tries to back away but is too slow and it hits him on the glove. This pair is frustrating the home side.

... DAY 1, SESSION 2 ...
What is fear? Steyn. What is difficulty? Steyn and Philander. What is hazard? Steyn, Philander and Rabada. What is terror? Facing Olivier along with these three. The seamers have just been prolific, landing the ball in the right areas and getting the desired results. They will now look to replicate that post Lunch and aim to bat before Tea. Join us back at 1.10 pm local (1110 GMT).
Don't think the surface has played badly. This is an exhibition of pure fast bowling against some less talented batting. Barring Shan Masood, no one has looked confident about his technique. Like the first Test, the visitors will hope that they can get one decent stand and push the score past 150.
Do we need to stress whose session it was? Blown away in a matter of minutes, was the Pakistan top order. Not quite sure whether this is what Sarfraz had in mind when he said at the toss that he was looking to bat.

Duanne Olivier to Babar Azam. OUT! In the air... taken! Half the side back in the hut and we are not even done with the first session. Not sure if that was poor judgment of length by Azam or did the ball just not bounce. I feel it is the former one. South Africa won't care though. It is just behind a length around off, it comes back in after pitching. Azam tries to sway away, expecting the ball to bounce a lot more. Babar Azam comes in at number 6, replacing Shafiq. 27 minutes left for Lunch.
Kagiso Rabada to Asad Shafiq. OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Timely wicket for South Africa. This partnership was starting to look good, it accounted for 32 in 41 deliveries but it has now been cut short. Rabada now has a wicket to his name, so all the pacers have a wicket each. This is on a length and around off, Shafiq hangs his bat out, it takes the outside edge and flies towards Elgar at third slip. He takes it easily.
Kagiso Rabada to Asad Shafiq. Good ball around off, it pitches and then moves away. The batsman shoulders arms to it.

Duanne Olivier to Asad Shafiq. FOUR! Lovely shot! This is on middle, Shafiq stylishly flicks it through mid-wicket for back-to-back boundaries. 50 up for Pakistan. This is the 4th boundary in the last 3 overs.
Duanne Olivier to Asad Shafiq. Almost drags it on! It has been short, short, short all this while from Olivier. Goes full, the surprise delivery. Shafiq tries to go too hard at it, the ball takes the inside edge and goes just past the leg stump and into the fine leg fence.

Kagiso Rabada to Asad Shafiq. Back of a length around off, Shafiq defends it onto the ground.
Kagiso Rabada to Asad Shafiq. Wide outside off, left alone.
Kagiso Rabada to Asad Shafiq. FOUR! Too easy, you just do not stray on the pads of an Asian batsman, they love it there. Shafiq flicks it through mid-wicket and the ball races away to the fence. So 15 runs in the last 8 balls.
Kagiso Rabada to Asad Shafiq. A well-directed bouncer this one. Shafiq does well to evade it.
Duanne Olivier to Shan Masood. On the back of a length around middle, the batsman works it to mid-wicket.
Duanne Olivier to Asad Shafiq. A little too straight this time by Olivier, Shafiq flicks it through mid-wicket. It is not right off the middle but hit well enough for the batsmen to get three. So runs starting to come now for Pakistan.
Duanne Olivier to Asad Shafiq. BEAUTY! Not a lot you can do about this delivery but just hope it misses the outside edge. On a length and around off, the ball pitches and then moves away. Shafiq plays inside the line and gets beaten.
Duanne Olivier to Asad Shafiq. The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
Duanne Olivier to Asad Shafiq. FOUR BYES! Excellent comeback though by the bowler! Bangs this short and it is quick. Shafiq though does well to evade it at the very end. Quinton de Kock though this time has no chance in collecting the ball and it goes to the fine leg fence.
Duanne Olivier to Asad Shafiq. FOUR! Pulled and pulled very well this one! Expected the short one, got into position early and pulls it hard through backward square leg. The ball races away to the fence.
Kagiso Rabada to Shan Masood. A good length delivery to end the over, Masood blocks it.
Kagiso Rabada to Shan Masood. On the shorter side outside off, Masood goes for the pull but then bails out of it.
Kagiso Rabada to Shan Masood. Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
Kagiso Rabada to Shan Masood. Effort delivery this! The last two were around 140 KPH, this one is bowled at 147 KPH. It is on off, Masood gets right behind the line and blocks it.
Kagiso Rabada to Shan Masood. Lands it around off again, Masood gets right behind the line and keeps it out.
Kagiso Rabada to Shan Masood. Comes from around the wicket and lands it outside off, the batsman lets it be. Rabada does not seem to be bowling at his quickest here. He seems more content on releasing it and landing it on the right length.
Duanne Olivier to Asad Shafiq. Good nut to end! On a length around off, the ball leaps up after pitching, also straightens a touch. Shafiq is a touch squared up as he tries to defend but gets hit on the arm and the ball rolls towards the off side.
Duanne Olivier to Asad Shafiq. On a length again around off, Shafiq is solid in defense. Has looked confident in the way he has defended the ball so far.
Duanne Olivier to Asad Shafiq. Attacks the off stump, the batsman defends it off the back foot.
Duanne Olivier to Asad Shafiq. Length again outside off, Shafiq makes his second leave in a row. That is probably what we will see for a while. Both the players will now take their time and try and bail Pakistan out of trouble here.

Kagiso Rabada to Shan Masood. SIX! All the way! Full marks to the bowler there but runs to the batsman. Short and on the body, Shan takes on the challenge of pulling, the ball though takes the top edge, goes over the keeper's head and over the fence. Not shy of taking on the short balls is Masood, we saw that in the last game and we are seeing that here.
Duanne Olivier to Asad Shafiq. So Olivier continues to bang it short. Shafiq though ducks under it.
Duanne Olivier to Asad Shafiq. Another bouncer it is outside off though. Shafiq lets it go to the keeper.
DRINKS BREAK. Pakistan need that badly. 70 balls of terror for them. Three wickets have gone down in the space of 42 deliveries and after being 9/0 at the end of the second over, they have managed just 10 in the next 9.4 overs. Frugality at its best. Meanwhile, Asad Shafiq has walked out to bat at number 5, replacing Azhar.
Duanne Olivier to Azhar Ali. OUT! A snorter there by Olivier to get Azhar for the third time in the series. Once again the batter has been bounced out. Olivier continues his good form as he strikes in the first over itself. On the shorter side, skids onto the batsman and also keeps rising. Ali tries to defend by hopping but the ball takes the outside edge and goes into the hands of Amla at first slip. The hosts are ecstatic as they know how big a wicket this is. Pakistan slip further.

Duanne Olivier to Azhar Ali. Starts off well by hitting the length hard on off, pushing the batsman back. Ali though does well to defend it onto the ground.
Duanne Olivier is on now. He was brilliant in the last game, can he do the same here?
Kagiso Rabada to Shan Masood. 5 leaves in the over then as Masood yet again does not fiddle with a delivery outside the off pole.
Kagiso Rabada to Shan Masood. Outside off again, Masood does not offer a shot. So Rabada too is bowling like the man he replaced, way too wide.
Kagiso Rabada to Shan Masood. Goes fuller this time outside off, wanting Shan to go for a drive, he does not and lets it go through to the keeper.
Kagiso Rabada to Shan Masood. Lands it on a length again outside off, Shan is not interested in playing at it.
Kagiso Rabada to Shan Masood. Good length again outside off, Shan does not fiddle with it.
Kagiso Rabada to Shan Masood. Starts off with a back of a length ball around off, Shan gets right behind the line of the delivery and blocks it out.
Things just don't get easier for Pakistan here as Kagiso Rabada is on now.
Vernon Philander to Azhar Ali. Outside off, left alone.
Vernon Philander to Azhar Ali. That ball has taken the inside edge onto the pads.
Vernon Philander to Azhar Ali. DIRECT HIT WOULD HAVE HAD AZHAR. On middle and leg, Ali flicks it towards mid-wicket and sets off for a single. Kagiso Rabada comes charging in and has a shy at the striker's end but misses. Azhar was a goner.
Vernon Philander to Shan Masood. Around middle and leg, helped through square leg for a single.

Dale Steyn to Azhar Ali. The ball is down the leg side but the batsman still goes after it.
Dale Steyn to Azhar Ali. On the stumps, Ali keeps it out.

Dale Steyn to Azhar Ali. Slightly straighter this time, Ali tucks it to mid-wicket.
Dale Steyn to Azhar Ali. A quicker bouncer this one at 142 KPH. Ali ducks under it.
Dale Steyn to Azhar Ali. Lovely fielding! South Africa have their tails up at the moment! Full and on middle, looking to hit the pads of Ali, he does get his bat down in time and flicks it towards mid-wicket. Rabada there dives to his left and saves a boundary for his side.
Vernon Philander to Azhar Ali. A single to end a successful over by Philander. This is on a length around off, shapes away a touch. Ali tries to defend it with soft hands but the ball takes the outside edge, goes through backward point and the batsmen take a run.

Vernon Philander to Azhar Ali. Goes back to bowling length around off, Ali lunges and keeps it out.
Vernon Philander to Azhar Ali. Welcome to the crease Ali. An excellent delivery there by Philander. Bends his back on this one and bangs it short. It is also well-directed. Azhar may have been taken by surprise, he tries to fend but the ball hits his glove and rolls onto the leg side.
Azhar Ali is the new man in.
Vernon Philander to Imam-ul-Haq. OUT! LBW! 50th Test wicket at Cape Town for Philander and both the openers are back in the hut now, that too cheaply. Pakistan in trouble here. The inswinger gets the better of Imam this time. Philander learns from the previous two occasions, gets it fuller this time and bowls it around off, it tails back in. Imam does not account for the movement and tries to defend with a big stride forward. He misses and the ball thuds into his pads. An appeal follows and the umpire after giving a long thought, raises his finger. Imam walks upto his partner and then reviews. Replays roll in and they show that the ball is clipping the top of off. Umpire's call it is and Imam has to continue his long walk back. Pakistan don't lose a review though.
Dale Steyn to Shan Masood. The ball is too wide on the off side for the batsman to make any contact.
Dale Steyn to Shan Masood. FOUR! Really good pull shot that by Shan! Slightly short, Shan picks the length up early and pulls it through mid-wicket. The ball races away. Shan gets off the mark in style.
Dale Steyn to Shan Masood. Another one wide outside off, the batter need not play at those.
Dale Steyn to Shan Masood. No carry on this one! Outside off and the batsman makes a leave, the ball goes on the bounce to the keeper.
Dale Steyn to Shan Masood. A bumper this time by Steyn, Shan ducks under it.
Dale Steyn to Shan Masood. Back of a length around off, Shan gets right behind the line and defends it out. SO 25 BALLS have passed since a run has been scored.
Vernon Philander to Imam-ul-Haq. Ends the over with a delivery outside off, Imam makes another leave. A maiden by Philander, not a threatening one.
Vernon Philander to Imam-ul-Haq. Back of a length around off, Imam goes back and blocks it out.
Vernon Philander to Imam-ul-Haq. Nicely timed but for no runs! Vernon goes fuller on middle, Imam strokes it towards mid on where Olivier makes a good stop.
Vernon Philander to Imam-ul-Haq. Well left in the end! On a length and outside off, Imam first thinks of playing at it but at the very end, shoulders arms to it.
Vernon Philander to Imam-ul-Haq. The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.
Vernon Philander to Imam-ul-Haq. Slants this away from outside off, Imam makes a leave.
Dale Steyn to Shan Masood. Outside off, left alone. End of a successful over by Steyn.
Shah Masood is the new man in.
Dale Steyn to Fakhar Zaman. OUT! What a brute of a delivery that is! That took off from nowhere. Just unplayable from Steyn. He has not been at his best today, but such is the class of that man, he can produce something out of nothing. He bends his back on this one, bowls it just behind a length around middle. Zaman has his weight on the front foot but then has to go back. The ball though hurries onto him and also the bounce gets big on him. He tries to fend at it with both feet in the air. It hits the splice and lobs behind the stumps. Bavuma from gully runs in and takes an easy catch. An early wicket for South Africa and Zaman walks back for a cheap score. Ideal start for the hosts.
Dale Steyn to Fakhar Zaman. This is what Steyn should be bowling more, he normally does so but not started well today. On a length and around off, Zaman defends it to gully.
Dale Steyn to Fakhar Zaman. Once again a direction-less delivery, way outside off, an easy leave for Zaman.
Dale Steyn to Fakhar Zaman. Nicely timed! Slightly fuller in length on middle, Zaman punches it back towards the bowler who makes a good stop in his followthrough.
Dale Steyn to Fakhar Zaman. On a length outside off, still too wide, left alone.
Vernon Philander to Imam-ul-Haq. Good length and around off, Imam blocks it out. End of a testing over by Philander. He has started off well, his partner though has not been upto the mark as of now.
Vernon Philander to Imam-ul-Haq. Goes back to bowling in-dippers, this time though he bowls a little too straight. Imam tries to flick but misses to get hit on the pads once again.
Vernon Philander to Imam-ul-Haq. Slants this one across the batsman, wanting Imam to go after it. The batter resists and lets it be.
Vernon Philander to Imam-ul-Haq. Errs in line this time as he sprays it down the leg side, Imam tries to flick but misses.
Vernon Philander to Imam-ul-Haq. Another appeal! Once again, the inswinger causing a problem for Imam. This time slightly fuller around middle, it comes back in sharply. Imam lunges and tries to block but gets beaten on the inside edge. It hits him on the pads, lower than the previous delivery but the umpire once again shakes his head. You need to be a little fuller here in Cape Town due to the bounce.
Vernon Philander to Imam-ul-Haq. HUGE SHOUT BUT NOT GIVEN! On a length and around middle, this one pitches and jags back in sharply. Imam tries to keep it out but does not account for the movement. He misses, the ball hits him high on the pads, an appeal follows but the umpire shakes his head. Philander knew it was high or he would surely be in the ears of his skipper, wanting to review that.
Dale Steyn to Fakhar Zaman. A good nut to end! On a length and around off, it pitches and then moves away. Zaman tries to defend but is beaten by the away movement. Another harmless over by Steyn comes to ane end.
Dale Steyn to Fakhar Zaman. Wasting the new ball here Steyn. He has bowled outside off on a consistent basis till now, does so once again, the batsman just need not play those.
Dale Steyn to Fakhar Zaman. Changes the length this time and bangs it short outside off, Zaman looks to drag his pull through the leg side, he gets beaten though.
Dale Steyn to Fakhar Zaman. Again goes back to bowling wide outside off, not the line Faf wants Steyn to bowl. Zaman makes an easy leave.
Dale Steyn to Fakhar Zaman. Perfect! Finds the edge as soon as he bowls it around off. Luckily for Zaman though it lands short of the man at gully. Two gullies in place for the opener.
Dale Steyn to Fakhar Zaman. Another delivery outside off, Zaman need not play at those. Steyn has been a little too wide in the 7 balls he has bowled.
Vernon Philander to Imam-ul-Haq. FOUR! TOP SHOT! A good way to the over for Pakistan. Philander goes full, he ends up serving a half volley. Imam says thank you very much as he times it through mid off. Olivier gives it a chase, dives but his effort goes in vain. Second boundary of the game and both have been hit by Imam.
Vernon Philander to Imam-ul-Haq. A good leave that in the end! It was pitched around off and on a length, comes back in just a little. Imam makes a leave and the ball goes over the off pole. So after watching that delivery, the pitch like expected, does have good carry.
Vernon Philander to Fakhar Zaman. Zaman is off the mark now! Slightly straighter this time by Philander, Zaman nudges it through square leg and takes a single.
Vernon Philander to Fakhar Zaman. Well bowled and well played! It is bowled in the corridor of uncertainty, Zaman knows where his off stump is, covers it, plays inside the line and lets the ball go to the keeper.
Vernon Philander to Fakhar Zaman. Closer to the off pole this time, he tries to get it to shape away so that the ball takes the edge. However, it goes straight on, Zaman gets behind the line and defends it onto the ground.
Vernon Philander to Fakhar Zaman. This is why he has been picked in the team, comes back from injury and straightaway starts off with a lovely delivery. Lands it on a length around off, gets it to move away from Zaman a little late. Fakhar is drawn into the stroke as he tries to defend it away from the body but luckily for him the ball whizzes past the outside edge.
Dale Steyn to Imam-ul-Haq. Full again but no swing available, Imam reaches out to it and strokes it to covers.
Dale Steyn to Imam-ul-Haq. 4th leave in the over as once again Steyn bowls it outside off. This time though slightly fuller as he gave the ball an opportunity to swing but it did not.
Dale Steyn to Imam-ul-Haq. Once again it is a little too wide outside off, Imam shoulders arms to it.
Dale Steyn to Imam-ul-Haq. FOUR! So the first ball which hits the bat, races to the fence. On the off pole this time around off, Imam tries to defend it with an open face of the bat, it goes off the outer half, through backward point and to the fence. Pakistan are underway.
Dale Steyn to Imam-ul-Haq. Slightly closer to the off pole this time, not close enough though to make the batsman play. Two leaves in a row to begin this Test.
Dale Steyn to Imam-ul-Haq. Starts off with a wide delivery outside off, Steyn was probably trying to curl the ball back into the left-hander. However, there was no swing on offer and Imam makes a comfortable leave.
We are all set for the action to begin! Out come the South African players and they are followed by the Pakistan openers, Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq. Dale Steyn will start the proceedings for South Africa. Three slips and a gully in place for him. Here we go...
Team news - Expected changes from both the sides as Abbas is straightaway into the team for Hasan, whereas, Philander comes in for Maharaj.
TOSS - South Africa win the toss and elect to field.
South Africa on the other hand, will be eager to seal the series here itself. With all that has happened in the last few days and also playing in familiar conditions, they are favorites to do so. Can a morale-deflated Pakistan side step up to the occasion or will the hosts blow them away? Stay tuned to find out.
It is now time for the visitors to put their off-field issues behind and concentrate on the real deal. A must-win game for them if they are to keep the series alive. They had their moments in the first Test but could not capitalize, this time though Sarfraz would hope for a complete performance from his side.
Hola there, cricket fans! How are you? Excited or exhausted? If you have been following the Australia-India Test, then we really admire you for sticking up so long. We are not done yet with the first day of international action in the New Year. South Africa and Pakistan are ready to celebrate in a while. Hello and a warm welcome to the opening day of the second Test in Cape Town.
South Africa will be more than pleased with this. Not only have they got a healthy lead, but they must have surely worn out the Pakistan players a little more. With the wicket misbehaving as it has been, the hosts will be raring to have a go with the ball. The action will begin shortly. Don't go anywhere.
So the Proteas have been dismissed rather early, but not before they got some quick and vital runs from the tail. De Kock and Philander, the overnight batsmen, the more recognized ones, were sent back by Amir rather quickly. He got Rabada early too and it seemed like they could contain them for quite less, but Steyn and Olivier found the fence on several occasions which took the lead past 250.
Shaheen Afridi to Dale Steyn. OUT! That should do it. Pakistan have got the final wicket. Short ball from around the wicket, on middle and off, Steyn backs away to slap it over covers. Gets a top edge to the same area where Fakhar Zaman takes a simple catch. SOUTH AFRICA HAVE BEEN BOWLED OUT FOR 431!
Mohammad Amir to Dale Steyn. Full ball on middle and leg, flicked to deep mid-wicket for a single. 12 runs off this one, an entertaining over comes to an end.
Mohammad Amir to Dale Steyn. That's got to hurt. Seeing Steyn give the charge, Amir pounds it in short outside leg. It catches the batsman on the helmet as he tries to take the pull shot on. No harm done though, he seems to be alright.
Mohammad Amir to Dale Steyn. No ball! Third's time a charm. Amir oversteps for the third straight occasion and this time the umpire spots it. Back of a length around off, Steyn fails to make connection.
Mohammad Amir to Dale Steyn. SIX! That's outta here! Wonderful stuff, Dale Steyn. The off cutter on the stumps, fuller in length, the batsman stays leg side and slogs it over mid-wicket for a maximum. Amir has overstepped again, the umpire has missed it once more.
Mohammad Amir to Dale Steyn. A little short, Steyn once again swings across the line but makes no connection. Amir overstepped by a huge margin there, but the umpire didn't spot it.
Mohammad Amir to Dale Steyn. Good length ball rising off the surface, Steyn swings hard but fails to connect.
Mohammad Amir to Dale Steyn. FOUR! Now Dale Steyn joins in on the fun. Doesn't want to be left out. It's full and in his arc, he clears his front leg, picks his spot and lofts it over mid on for a boundary.
Shaheen Afridi to Duanne Olivier. FOUR! 11 off the over, expensive one from Afridi. All these are bonus runs for South Africa. Back of a length outside off, Olivier plays at it and it goes off the edge. Flies well past gully and away to the third man fence.
Shaheen Afridi to Duanne Olivier. Around off, defended from within the crease.

Duanne Olivier to bat next.
Mohammad Amir to Kagiso Rabada. OUT! Rolling back the years are you, Amir? That's an absolute ripper. What a sight to behold. Superb delivery. Pitches it full on middle and it swings away ever so much, Rabada plays down the wrong line and that's his undoing. All three stumps are shattered. Amazing.
Mohammad Amir to Dale Steyn. Full delivery on off, Steyn drives it on the up to mid off and takes a single.
Dale Steyn is the next batsman in.
Mohammad Amir to Vernon Philander. OUT! Bowled 'em! That's the second one down for the morning. Beautiful delivery from Mohammad Amir. Bowls a length ball on off and makes it come back in late. Mohammad Abbas to Kagiso Rabada. Back of a length on off, Rabada looks to play at it and gets an inside edge which hits his boot and rolls beside the off stump.

Mohammad Abbas to Vernon Philander. Short ball banged in, ducked and evaded by the batsman.
Kagiso Rabada walks out to bat.
Mohammad Amir to Quinton de Kock. OUT! Edged and gone! Pakistan will enjoy this. Amir strikes in his very first over. Just behind a length, outside off, de Kock just loosely plays at this. Gets a thick edge and it flies to Asad Shafiq at second slip. He dives to his left and takes a good catch. The dangerous de Kock is dismissed, this is the best start possible for the visitors.
Mohammad Amir to Quinton de Kock. FOUR! Poor line and it's duly punished. Full and on the pads, de Kock flicks it neatly past the diving mid-wicket fielder and finds the fence. Too easy for a player of his quality.
Mohammad Amir to Quinton de Kock. Coming in at first but then shaping away late, on a length around off. Quinton de Kock is watchful as he presents the full face of the bat.
Mohammad Amir to Quinton de Kock. Hurled too far outside off, the southpaw raises his bat and lets it through.

Mohammad Abbas to Vernon Philander. Good length delivery just around off, Philander comes half forward and defends it down on the off side.
We are ready to get underway. Quinton de Kock walks out to the middle with Vernon Philander. Mohammad Abbas will start proceedings off with the ball. Two slips and a gully in place. Here we go...
Welcome for the third, and what could cynically be considered, as the last day of this Newlands Test. South Africa already have a lead of 205 runs, that is largely down to the heroics of captain Faf and Bavuma. De Kock then piled the pressure on and is unbeaten on 55 with Philander to partner him. Pakistan have looked toothless with the ball, and Abbas seemingly still struggling with injury hasn't aided their cause either. Will their batting come to the party finally? Because that's the only thing that can save them. We'll find out soon enough what unfolds.
... Day 3, Session 1 ...
The ball firmly in South Africa's court as things stand. They will try to add another 50-60 runs at least and then have a go at the away side with the ball. Pakistan, well, will try to wrap up the remaining Protea wickets ASAP. The action from Day 3 will begin at 1030 local (0830 GMT). Do join in for that. Cheers!
Afridi eventually dismissed both Bavuma and du Plessis, which did give them something to smile about, but de Kock didn't let that last long. He motored himself along to a fluent fifty and extended the lead to 205. Pakistan bowled well for the most part, just that luck wasn't on their side. Also a few dropped chances did not aid their cause. It was a long day for the visitors on the field.
South Africa's day without a doubt. They have taken this Test match into their stride and it's all thanks to the fine work from du Plessis and Bavuma. Hello and welcome to Day 2 of the second Test between South Africa and Pakistan. The hosts are in a commanding position at the moment and they will look to have a stronger hold on the game by the end of today. A big lead is what they will be looking for on a wicket which seems to have eased off. Pakistan on the other hand, need a few quick wickets if they are to get back in the game. They need one of their bowlers to step up and deliver the goods. Will someone do so? Also, we saw the bowlers dominate yesterday, will we see the same today? Stay tuned to find out in a while.
... Day 2, Session 1 ...
Now then, what will we have in store for us on Day 2? Will the hosts continue the domination or will Pakistan fight back? Join us to find out at 1030 local (0830 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!
Credit though has to be given to the Protea bowlers. Earlier in the day, they made quick work of the Pakistan batting line-up and bundled them out for a pretty low score with all the bowlers taking a wicket at least. Olivier was the star once again as he finished with a four-fer. For Pakistan, had it not been for their skipper who scored a half ton, even getting to 100 would have been difficult. In reply, The South African batters have started off really well and they would now look to continue the same.
A wicket right at the end gives Pakistan something to smile about. However, it has been all South Africa today. They head into Day 2 in a very commanding position, courtesy some outstanding batting by their top order in the final session. First it was Markram and Elgar who added a 56-run stand, then the former, along with Amla, stitched another 50-plus stand. The opener was dismissed in an unfortunate manner after playing a fluent innings. One though would feel he has done a good enough job for his side. The hosts trail by only 54 more runs and have a lot of batting to come.
Shan Masood to Aiden Markram. OUT! TIMBER! Wicket off the last ball of the day. And it comes from the most unlikely source - Shan Masood. What a masterstroke from Sarfraz Ahmed. Delight for Pakistan. However, this is a very fortunate dismissal for them. Nothing Markram could have done about that. It is a touch short on off, it pitches and jags back. Keeps very low. It almost seemed like it never left the ground. Markram tries to defend it from the crease but then seeing the bad bounce, tries to adjust, is not able to do so and the ball knocks the off stump out. Markram can't believe it as he trudges off in disgust. He was looking all set for a big one but luck was not on his side. THAT WILL ALSO BE STUMPS ON DAY 1. SOUTH AFRICA ARE 123/2.

41 runs is what the hosts need and Pakistan require 10 wickets to win the game. The former result looks the more likelier one. However, as we know, cricket is a game of uncertainty but a South Africa win, looks certain today. Anything other than that, we will probably be witnessing a miracle. Welcome you to the coverage of the first session of Day 4 which could also be the last one of the Test. Stay tuned to catch all the action.
... Day 4, Session 1 ...
The question is how long on Day 4? A session? That is what I believe. Also, another question is, can South Africa win with 10 wickets in the bag or will Pakistan make them work for the runs they need? All these questions will be answered on Sunday at 1030 local (0830 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!
Earlier in the day, the South Africans swelled their lead to 254 before being bundled out. Then they managed to pick a couple of wickets after Lunch. An innings defeat looked certain but then, Asad Shafiq and Shan Masood showed great character. The two added 132 runs and let me tell you, the partnership was a very entertaining one. However, once the two departed, nobody except for Babar Azam showed some fight. A cluster of wickets in the last session more or less seals the deal for the hosts.
7 wickets, that's what fell in the last session! Asad Shafiq was the first one to go early after the break. Then the procession began and Dale Steyn was the tormentor-in-chief. He bagged a four-fer and at one stage an innings defeat looked on the cards. However, a fighting knock by Babar Azam ensured that Pakistan take the lead. They would have liked a bigger one but credit to the fight they showed. They did not surrender and managed to avoid an innings defeat.
So after a discussion between Faf du Plessis and the umpires, we see Elgar walking back slowly towards the dressing room. De Kock too is taking his own time to get there which means PLAY WON'T BE EXTENDED. There will be a Day 4 and South Africa will come out to bat with a target of 41 in front of them.
Kagiso Rabada to Shaheen Afridi. OUT! That's the final wicket down for the visitors. Back of a length ball in line of the stumps, Afridi backs away, swings hard across the line and the ball takes a big top edge. It takes the top edge and skies towards mid off, where Rabada takes a good catch. But all in vain, as the umpire takes it upstairs and checks for the front foot no ball. And it doesn't turn out well for the hosts. De Kock had already entered the dressing room, he has to come back out now. He's so disappointed. It's all a bit funny.

.... Day 3, Session 3 ....
For the first time in this Test match, you could say it's Pakistan's session. 140 runs were scored at a run rate of 5.60 - unbelievable, isn't it? The visitors' dressing room gives a round of applause to the two men walking back. These two hours were all about the now departed Masood and the unbeaten Shafiq (for now). The two scored their respective fifties and assimilated 132 runs between them, taking the attack to the South African pacers. Masood remains steady, while Shafiq did just the opposite. Would have been perfect for them too, had Steyn now dismissed the opener a little before the break. This contest has suddenly come alive, and it could get real interesting if the batsmen to follow can do their part. Pakistan still trail by 77. A super final session awaits us.

Another clinical performance from the hosts and they have won another series as well. They completely dominated the 2 Test matches and now would be looking for a whitewash. Pakistan on the other hand will try and avoid that. Will they be able to do so? Join us on the 11th of January at 1000 local (0800 GMT) to find out. Till then, take care and goodbye!
South African skipper and Man of the Match, Faf du Plessis, starts by saying he is happy he finally got a ton on his favorite ground. Further adds it is an amazing stadium and he is delighted he got a ton here. Mentions it was a gutsy effort from his team. States they enjoy playing here as the crowd is always right behind them. Reckons they are doing well at home and they want to keep the good work up. He feels the wicket got easier to bat on as the days progressed and he was fortunate to win the toss. All-in-all he says the wicket was good for both, the batters and the bowlers. Informs playing 4 pacers was their plan and it worked out quite well for them. Ends by saying he still feels the pressure of not scoring a lot, he remembered the good innings he has played and managed to do well here.
Pakistan skipper, Sarfraz Ahmed, says they did not have enough runs on the board in the first innings and they weren't able to restrict the South Africans too. Reckons the first couple of hours was really tough on Day 1 and they could not cope with it. Feels a couple more of practice matches before the Test series would have helped. He hopes of doing well in the third Test.
An innings defeat looked certain especially when Pakistan went into Lunch on Day 3 after losing two wickets. But half tons from Asad Shafiq, Babar Azam and Shan Masood saved their blushes. Especially the partnership between Masood and Shafiq which accounted for 132 runs. They did manage to worry the South Africans for a little while but a cluster of wickets in the last session on Day 3 with Rabada and Steyn both picking 4 each, saw the home side needing 41 on Day 4 which they knocked off easily. Stay tuned for the presentation.
In reply, it seemed, the hosts were batting on a completely different wicket. They had three batsman scoring fifties and their skipper, leading from the front with an outstanding ton. They batted close to 125 overs and took a big lead of 254.
It was a combined effort from them. Their bowlers first, justified their skipper's decision by bundling the visitors out for a paltry total. All the pacers picked a wicket at least, Steyn and Olivier were the pick as the former finished with a three-fer and the latter with a four-fer.
End of a commanding performance by an impressive team on home soil. Also, it is South Africa's 7th series win in a row at home. This was never in doubt when they came out to bat today morning, it was just a matter of how long will they take and it took them 59 balls to knock off these 41 runs. They did lose de Bruyn and Amla did walk off injured but Faf and Elgar ensured they complete the job and seal the series with a game to go.
