Pakistan vs England Highlights And Cricket Score One-off Match - T20I Commentary

End of Over : 20.0 PAK: 173/6

Decent outing for all the England bowlers, barring Jordan. Archer was the most impressive, hustling the batsmen for pace. The hosts have got a decent batting line-up and will back themselves to chase this down. On the other hand, Pakistan will feel they have the bowlers to stop England. The run chase will begin shortly...

That is when one debutant rose to the occasion. Jofra Archer, as he has numerously done in T20s, struck in the 16th over. That too, twice. First, he got Sohail caught in the deep and couple of balls later, ran Babar out. That changed the speed and Pakistan, well, from one angle, have fallen 20 runs short. But look at the par score and consider the last over, they might have made up for at least 10 of those.

England started well, stifling Pakistan in the Powerplay and getting 2 quick wickets. But Babar Azam and Haris Sohail then got together and dug in. The 103-run stand pushed England on the back foot and Eoin Morgan was starting to look worried.

Hmmm... according to David 'Bumble' Lloyd, 180 is a par score at this venue. That means Pakistan have got a competitive total. They started slowly, then got back into the game, getting a projected score of 200 at one stage, only to lose their way in the middle. However, that last over might just change things a bit.

19.6 4

Chris Jordan to Imad Wasim. FOUR! A boundary to finish the innings. Full and down the leg side, Imad tickles it behind square leg. Fine leg runs to his right and dives but in vain. 16 from the final over as Pakistan finish on 173/6!

19.5 4

Chris Jordan to Imad Wasim. FOUR! Nice shot. Full and outside off, Wasim hammers it right back past the bowler down the ground and splits long on and long off!

Hasan Ali to bat now.

19.4 W

Chris Jordan to Faheem Ashraf. OUT! Ashraf holes out in the deep. A length ball outside off, Faheem looks to go inside out but cannot quite get the timing or the placement. The skier is taken calmly by Joe Denly running in a bit from sweeper cover.

19.3 6

Chris Jordan to Faheem Ashraf. SIX! CLUBBED! A low full toss outside off, Ashraf hits this massively over long off!

19.2 1

Chris Jordan to Imad Wasim. DROPPED! Full on middle and leg, Wasim jabs this back to the bowler. Jordan sticks out his left hand but the ball does not stick. A single taken.

19.1 1

Chris Jordan to Faheem Ashraf. A short ball, down the leg side, Ashraf looks to pull but gets hit on the pads. The batsmen sneak a single. No signal from the umpire, must have been an inside edge.

Chris Jordan to bowl the final over. 3-0-25-0 so far.

End of Over : 19 9 Runs PAK: 157/5
18.6 1

Adil Rashid to Faheem Ashraf. Full and outside leg, Ashraf plays the slog sweep towards deep mid-wicket for another single. Not a bad comeback from Rashid after going for a boundary early in the over. 4-0-32-0 for him.

18.5 1

Adil Rashid to Imad Wasim. Around middle, worked through mid-wicket for one more.

18.4 1

Adil Rashid to Faheem Ashraf. The batsman defends it from within the crease. One run added to the total.

18.3 1

Adil Rashid to Imad Wasim. Again, smashes this down the ground towards long off for a run.

18.2 4

Adil Rashid to Imad Wasim. FOUR! CLOBBERED! Outside off, Wasim backs away and smashes it straight back over the bowler, down the ground, for a boundary.

18.1 1

Adil Rashid to Faheem Ashraf. Full and outside leg, Ashraf looks to play the reverse sweep but gets it off his pads towards point. They run a single. No signal from the umpire. Must have been an inside edge then.

Big gamble. Adil Rashid has been given the 19th over. 3-0-23-0 so far.

End of Over : 18 7 Runs PAK: 148/5
17.6 0

Jofra Archer to Imad Wasim. HOW DID THAT MISS THE STUMPS? Wasim gets a long way across his stumps and Archer fires a full toss at the stumps. Or he targets the stumps but it is just outside off. Imad misses his attempted paddle. Close... Excellent spell from Archer on debut - 4-0-29-2.

17.5 1

Jofra Archer to Faheem Ashraf. Low full toss, outside off, driven towards mid off for a run.

17.4 4

17.3 1

Jofra Archer to Imad Wasim. On middle, pushed through mid on fro a single.

17.2 0

Jofra Archer to Imad Wasim. Jofra is too quick and Imad is too slow. A fiery bouncer, outside off, Wasim misses out on the pull.

17.1 1

Jofra Archer to Faheem Ashraf. Around middle and off, Ashraf heaves it towards deep mid-wicket. Takes the single, Wasim wants the second but is sent back.

End of Over : 17 4 Runs PAK: 141/5
16.6 1

Chris Jordan to Faheem Ashraf. Played to the point region by the batsman. They pick up a single. Sensational couple of overs for England - 8/3.

16.5 1

Chris Jordan to Imad Wasim. Outside off, driven through the covers for a single.

Faheem Ashraf walks out to the middle at number 7, replacing Asif.

16.4 W

Chris Jordan to Imad Wasim. OUT! DROPPED BUT A RUN OUT! Well, great comeback from England but Pakistan are imploding here. A short ball, outside off, Wasim looks to pull but gets it off the toe end of the bat. It goes back to Jordan who leaps, sticks out his hand but cannot quite take the catch. Now comes the drama. The ball lobs behind and Asif Ali wants the single. He is well out of his crease but Wasim rightly says no. Now, Asif is in no man's land. Jordan meanwhile, tries for the catch in the second attempt with a dive but cannot get there. However, he realizes that Ali is out of his crease, gets up quickly and has an under-arm shy at the bowler's end. Bull's eye. Could have run back and taken the bails off. Third wicket in the last 8 balls for 5 runs.

16.3 0

Chris Jordan to Imad Wasim. Outside off, a slower ball, short in length, Wasim is early into his pull but misses.

16.2 1

Jofra Archer to Asif Ali. Full toss outside off, driven through the covers for a couple. 2 wickets and 4 runs from the over.

Imad Wasim now in.

15.5 W

Jofra Archer to Babar Azam. OUT! It is a bull's eye from Archer! Azam is run out. A short ball, outside off, Babar looks to pull but gets a massive inside edge onto the pads. The ball rolls to the leg side and Asif wants the single but Azam is not sure. He takes off late and by that time, Jofra is quickly to the ball to his right. Picks it up, takes aim and boom. A shy at the bowler's end and Azam is nowhere in the frame. Two wickets in the over, both of set batsmen, the Archer over has hit the jackpot.

15.4 1

Jofra Archer to Asif Ali. A length ball outside off, Asif looks to get across and tuck it to the leg side but misses and is hit on the pads. A leg bye is taken.

Asif Ali walks in at number 5, replacing Sohail.

15.3 W

Jofra Archer to Haris Sohail. OUT! Taken in the deep! The big stand is broken and Archer has his second. A slower ball, short in length, Sohail backs away and pulls this high over mid-wicket. However, the ground is a bit big on that side and Haris cannot quite clear the fielder. Simple catch for David Willey at the ropes. Fine knock from Sohail. The 103-run stand has laid the platform for a big total.

15.2 0

Jofra Archer to Haris Sohail. Excellent yorker, around middle and leg, hit straight to point.

15.1 1

Jofra Archer to Babar Azam. A slower delivery to start, on a length outside off, Azam backs away and guides it towards third man for a single.

14.3 4

Tom Curran to Babar Azam. FOUR! Neat. Full and outside off, Azam reaches out and carves it behind point for a boundary.

14.2 1

Tom Curran to Haris Sohail. MAIDEN T20I FIFTY FOR SOHAIL! Fine knock from the southpaw. Gets there with a gentle push to cover off a full toss. Raises his bat to the dugout. Now, for the perfect finish.

Tom Curran to bowl out. 3-0-17-1 so far.

End of Over : 14 11 Runs PAK: 122/2
13.6 4

David Willey to Haris Sohail. FOUR! Up and over point this time! 11 from the over, 26 off the last 2. England under pressure here. Short and outside off, Sohail lashes hard and gets it in front of point. Sweeper cover tries to get around but is late.

13.5 0

David Willey to Haris Sohail. Outside off, played straight to point.

13.5 wd

David Willey to Haris Sohail. ANOTHER WIDE. This tactic from Sohail of backing away to the leg side is upsetting Willey. He is trying to get it wider of the batsman but cannot quite judge the guideline.

13.4 2

David Willey to Haris Sohail. Short and outside off, flayed over point for a couple.

13.3 0

David Willey to Haris Sohail. Outside off, a flay and a miss.

13.3 wd

David Willey to Haris Sohail. WIDE. Sohail backs away to the leg side and Willey tries to explore the wider side of off. Bowls it way too wide.

13.2 1

David Willey to Babar Azam. Ouch. That is on the helmet. A short ball, around middle and off, Azam looks to pull but misses and is pinged on the helmet. The ball rolls away past the diving Foakes towards third man and a run is taken. No signal from the umpire, so must have been some kind of a top edge.

13.1 2

David Willey to Babar Azam. A short ball, around middle and leg, Azam pulls it uppishly, just wide of short fine leg for a couple.

David Willey is back on. 2-0-14-0 so far.

End of Over : 13 15 Runs PAK: 111/2

12.2 6

Joe Denly to Babar Azam. SIX! And again! Another half tracker from Denly, Babar rocks back and pulls it miles over mid-wicket for half a dozen!

12.1 6

Joe Denly to Babar Azam. SIX! BRUTAL! That is help-yourself stuff and Babar helps himself. Short ball, around middle and leg, Azam rocks back and pulls it high and handsome over mid-wicket!

Tom Curran to Babar Azam. A bouncer now, ducked under.

11.2 1

Tom Curran to Haris Sohail. Outside off, dabbed through third man for a run.

11.1 2

Tom Curran to Haris Sohail. On middle and off, played through point for a couple.

Tom Curran returns. 2-0-11-1 so far.

End of Over : 11 9 Runs PAK: 90/2
10.6 2

Adil Rashid to Babar Azam. Played to the mid-wicket region by the batsman. The batsmen have picked up a couple of runs.

10.5 4

Adil Rashid to Babar Azam. FOUR! A short ball, Azam goes back and drags it through mid-wicket for a boundary!

10.4 1

Adil Rashid to Haris Sohail. Full and outside off, driven through mid off for a single.

10.3 1

Adil Rashid to Babar Azam. ANOTHER LBW SHOUT! The umpire does not give it again. Rashid is furious. He wants the review but Morgan denies it. Full and around off, Babar comes down the track and looks to defend but misses and is hit on the pads. Technology shows the impact to be umpire's call, given that the batsman was nearly 3 metres down the track.

10.2 0

Adil Rashid to Babar Azam. Not a bad LBW shout. Full and around middle, Azam jumps down the track and looks to defend but misses and is hit on the pads. Rashid appeals for LBW but the umpire does not give it. Too far down the track.

10.1 1

Adil Rashid to Haris Sohail. Full and outside off, pushed through the covers for a single.

End of Over : 10 13 Runs PAK: 81/2
9.6 1

9.5 4

Jofra Archer to Haris Sohail. DROPPED, FOUR! Foakes almost pulls off a stunner. Similar to the third ball of this over. Sohail backs away to the leg side and Archer follows him. The southpaw then tries to guide it past the keeper, catching him on the wrong foot but hits it a bit too fine. Ben Foakes then dives to his left, gets a bit of glove on the ball but that is it. The ball races away.

9.4 2

Jofra Archer to Haris Sohail. A full toss, around middle and leg, flicked through mid-wicket for a brace.

9.3 0

9.1 2

Jofra Archer to Haris Sohail. Around middle and leg, Sohail works it through mid-wicket and takes a single. The batsmen take a delayed call for the second and go for it. David Willey attacks the ball coming in from deep mid-wicket but while throwing the ball, it slips out.

Jordan is out of the attack. Jofra Archer is back on. 1-0-6-1 so far. Morgan wants pace.

End of Over : 9 11 Runs PAK: 68/2
8.6 1

Adil Rashid to Haris Sohail. Another googly, picked by the left-hander Sohail, punched through the covers to end another decent over for Pakistan. 11 from it, 26 from the last 2!

Chris Jordan to Haris Sohail. Down the leg side, lucky to get away with that, flicked towards square leg for a run.

End of Over : 5 6 Runs PAK: 31/2
4.6 0

Jofra Archer to Haris Sohail. Around off, watchfully defended. 6 runs and a wicket from Archer's maiden over in T20Is.

Haris Sohail walks in at number 4, replacing Imam.

4.5 W

Jofra Archer to Imam-ul-Haq. OUT! Caught behind! Imam has been bounced out. This is what extra pace can do. It is an all-debutant action. Debutant bowler Archer bangs in a short ball and this is a quick one. Debutant batsman Imam looks to pull but is cramped for room. The ball hits his glove and lobs in the air behind. Debutant keeper Ben Foakes runs to his right and then completes the formalities. The problem with facing Jofra is that there is hardly any difference between his slower deliveries and quicker ones, in terms of action. Pakistan are not quite able to set the pace here.

4.4 1

Jofra Archer to Babar Azam. Slower ball now, 76.7 mph, the off cutter, on a length outside off, Azam dabs it towards cover and sets off for a run.

4.3 1

Jofra Archer to Imam-ul-Haq. This is at 91 mph, outside off, on a length, dabbed towards cover for a single.

4.1 2

Jofra Archer to Imam-ul-Haq. Full and down the leg side, flicked behind square leg for a couple.

Here comes England's debutant - JOFRA ARCHER. He was impressive against Ireland. How will he fare today?

End of Over : 4 1 Runs PAK: 25/1
3.6 0

Tom Curran to Babar Azam. Another slower delivery, very good from Curran, outside off, on a length, Babar looks to tap and run towards cover but is denied by Imam. There was a single on offer with Tom Curran having some ground to cover to his left. Azam is clearly not happy with his partner.

3.5 1

Tom Curran to Imam-ul-Haq. Slower from Curran, on a length, Imam comes down the track and swings hard but gets a thick inside edge towards square leg. A run stolen.

2.5 0

David Willey to Babar Azam. HOWZZAT? Just thought we heard a nick! But neither the keeper nor the bowler appeal! Oh dear... Outside off, on a length, Azam looks to push this through the off side but misses. There is a noise as the ball goes past which is clearly evident from the replays as well. But nothing heard from the players on the field. Waiting for the Snicko...

2.4 2

David Willey to Babar Azam. Full, around middle, worked through mid-wicket for a brace.

2.3 1

David Willey to Imam-ul-Haq. Outside off, Imam waits for the ball to come to him and dabs it towards third man for one.

2.2 1

David Willey to Babar Azam. Around middle and off, helped to the leg side for a run.

2.1 0

David Willey to Babar Azam. Full and outside off, Azam leans and drives it straight to cover.

What has happened there? David Willey has come running in but has withdrawn from the delivery. A big patch of grass has come out! Willey is holding his left ankle in a bit of pain. Hope he is fine. This will take some time! What has happened is - Willey's left foot has hit the lid of an underground storage space and it has been blown open. It was placed exactly behind the bowler's run up. Thankfully, the bowler is fine. The ground staff has done its stuff and we are about to resume...

Debutant Imam-ul-Haq walks in at number 3, replacing Zaman.

End of Over : 2 10 Runs PAK: 16/1
1.6 W

Tom Curran to Fakhar Zaman. OUT! Caught! Morgan pouches a stunner! Fakhar cannot believe it. Full and outside off, Zaman drives it away from his body but does not time it that well. End of Over : 1 6 Runs PAK: 6/0
0.6 0

David Willey to Babar Azam. Outside off, punched straight to cover. An eventful opening over.

0.5 2

David Willey to Babar Azam. RUN OUT CHANCE MISSED! Full and outside off, Babar drives this through the covers. He calls for two but is struggling on the second. The keeper comes two yards ahead to collect the throw which comes to him with Azam halfway down the track. He has 2-3 seconds to take aim which he does, then has a shy at the striker's end. But misses! Babar dives but is well late. Gets up with a sheepish smile...

0.4 0

David Willey to Babar Azam. Full and around middle, pushed back to the bowler.

0.3 1

David Willey to Fakhar Zaman. Outside off, driven wide of mid off for a run.

0.1 1

David Willey to Fakhar Zaman. Full and outside off, pushed towards mid off for a quick single.

The players make their way out to the middle. Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam are the openers for Pakistan. David Willey to start off proceedings to Zaman. Here we go...

ENGLAND (Playing XI) - James Vince, Ben Duckett (DEBUT), Joe Root, Eoin Morgan(C), Joe Denly, Ben Foakes(WK) (DEBUT), David Willey, Tom Curran, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid and Jofra Archer (DEBUT).

PAKISTAN (Playing XI) - Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq(DEBUT), Sarfaraz Ahmed(C AND WK), Haris Sohail, Asif Ali, Imad Wasim, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali and Mohammad Hasnain (DEBUT).

TEAM NEWS - Debutants for both sides. Pakistan hand caps to Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hasnain while the hosts are giving an opportunity to Jofra Archer, Ben Foakes and Ben Duckett.

TOSS - Time for the spin of the coin then. Sarfaraz Ahmed calls it correctly and PAKISTAN WILL BAT FIRST.

Pakistan play their first international game in a while and even though this is a T20 format, they will use this to give their players a good warm-up into the ODI series and then the World Cup. They have usually done well in England with the ball, so will be hoping to maintain that legacy.

England suffered a bit of a blip or shall we say, working over, in the one-off ODI against Ireland a couple of days ago. However, that was in a different place and this game is at home. The hosts will be looking to set the tone from this very day.

In a 'World Cup month' scheduling of T20s is a bit weird. But as is the compulsion of the international FTP, there is this need of playing at least one game in every format. Hence, we have this one-off T20I between England and Pakistan at Cardiff.

End of Over : 19.2 ENG: 175/3

EOIN MORGAN HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. That is it from this one-off T20I then. The 5-match ODI series between these two teams kicks off on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 1 pm local (1200 GMT). See yaa then. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!

Hard luck for Pakistan. They tried hard but could not quite keep the pressure sustained. England ran a lot of twos and the fielders were found wanting. That affected the bowling as well with only three bowlers picking up wickets. Surprisingly, Sarfaraz did not employ Haris Sohail, whose left-arm spin is pretty effective.

Captain Morgan's form will be the key for England come the World Cup. He had been going through some patchy form but this knock will increase his confidence. His knock of 57 from 29 balls included 5 fours and 3 sixes and he got his form back.
