Now Pakistan will really need their batters to step up here. The wicket is turning and New Zealand will hope to gain a first innings lead. Remember, Pakistan will be batting last in this game, so any sort of a lead will be very handy. Stay tuned.

The Pakistan bowling began brilliantly as Yasir Shah ran through the top order. However, as Day 1 progressed the Pakistan bowling lost some steam. Towards the end though they came back strongly but let New Zealand off the hook today morning. Asif was the star with a fifer while after doing the initial damage, Yasir Shah kept it tight from one end. Their pacers weren't much effective for most parts.

A commendable effort in the end by New Zealand. Not many would have thought they would get to the total they have especially when they were reeling at 72-4. However, their skipper stepped up, he along with Watling first stitched in a 104-run stand. Williamson perished 11 short of a ton but Watling continued with the tail and helped New Zealand to put a competitive total on the board.

The day started with BJ Watling and Somerville frustrating the Pakistanis. The latter blocked everything that came his way and the former was the one who did the job of scoring. The wicket-keeper got to his half ton and revived hopes of New Zealand getting to the 300-run mark. Bilal Asif though had different ideas as he ran through the tail. Pakistan though would feel they took longer than they would have liked to wrap the innings up.

Bilal Asif walks off to a standing ovation and he deserves every bit of it. There were questions raised about his performances before the game but he has silenced the critics in style. Picks all the three wickets which had to be taken today and ends with a fifer. However, New Zealand have added 45 handy runs and they will surely be happy with where they are placed in the game.

Earlier in the day, the debutant, Shaheen Afridi started off brilliantly taking the wicket of Tom Latham. But Jeet Raval and Kane Williamson did manage to form a partnership of some sort. Yasir Shah though then came to the fore and ran through the middle order just before Lunch. Post that, a partnership of 104 between Kane Williamson and BJ Watling took the Kiwis to safer shores but quick wickets in the end sees Pakistan walk off as the happier side.

This session - 84 runs and 3 wickets. Pakistan's session and Pakistan's day one can say. They not only managed to break the 104-run stand between Williamson and Watling but have also picked up two more. When Watling and Williamson were batting, the Kiwis would have aimed for something around 300 but the spinners, along with Hasan Ali have now given Pakistan a chance to restrict New Zealand under 250.

It was not to be though as Yasir Shah weaved his magic and New Zealand went from 70-1 to 72-4. Yasir picking all three of them. Pakistan would hope they can continue the good work after the break. Pakistan's session and once again it is Yasir Shah who has proved to be the X-factor. After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Kiwi openers got New Zealand off to a brisk start. However, it was Shaheen Afridi who provided the breakthrough. Williamson and Raval then tried to steady the ship. The latter was batting well out there and looked certain to get to a half ton.

This is floated on middle, it pitches, skids through and stays very low. Taylor tries to defend but the ball sneaks under his bat and goes onto disturb the furniture behind. Taylor bags a golden duck and once again Yasir is proving to be a troublesome for the Kiwi batters. He is on a hat-trick now.

As for the hosts, Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq made a 201-run stand, both reached their centuries, but fell soon after that. A much better session for the Kiwis. 88 runs were scored in 28 overs, and Pakistan do have a lead of 38 at this moment in time, but they will be pleased to see the backs of Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq, who scored their respective centuries and made a 201-run partnership. Somervile picked up his maiden Test wicket by removing the former and the latter was dismissed by Patel, who got his first of the game too. This is the perfect moment for New Zealand to make further inroads, but they still could face some stiff resistance from Azam and Sarfraz who are out there in the middle. The first hour of the final session will be crucial for both sides. It'll begin shortly...

Pakistan's session without a doubt. In 29 overs, 85 runs were scored without the loss of a wicket. The two batsmen who were there overnight are still out there in the middle and they haven't looked in trouble at any point during the session. The runs have come at a faster rate than yesterday and the deficit has been trimmed down to a mere 50. The highlights of the session were Azhar Ali's 15th Test hundred and Asad Shafiq also getting to his 22nd Test fifty. Even the new ball has not done any magic for the visitors. Welcome to Day 3 of this final Test between Pakistan and New Zealand. Some breaking news for those who have missed out - Mohammad Hafeez has decided to draw the curtains on his 15-year long Test career after this final game. Pretty sure it's going to be an emotional affair for the Pakistan camp. Talking about the game, it is evenly poised as things stand. Both sides will fancy their chances, and would like to start off this day with a bang. A few wickets for the visitors would set the alarm bells ringing in the Pakistan camp, whereas one solid stand for the hosts could see some shoulders drop on the Black Caps' side. Earlier in the day, BJ Watling's excellent knock helped New Zealand get to a competitive total. Bilal Asif was the key man for the hosts picking up five wickets. In reply, Pakistan lost both their openers cheaply, courtesy, Trent Boult. Haris Sohail and Azhar Ali, then, added 68 and took Pakistan to safer shores. The latter continued after the wicket of the former and got to his fifty. Also, Azhar's partnership with Asad is turning out to be a threatening one.

It has been a good day of Test cricket. The hosts will be happy going into the dressing room after the day's play. The home team did lose the wicket of Haris Sohail early on after Tea. But Asad Shafiq and Azhar Ali steadied the ship and have given the home side the edge.

The Kiwi bowlers did give it their all but the wicket seems to have eased out a little.
