A word about Ross Taylor now. How well did he play? An 80 in the first game, an unbeaten 86 in much tougher conditions here. He did not waste too much time, just took it till the end, ensuring that New Zealand at least batted out 50 overs. Has his team got enough though? Reverse swing is a key exponent in Pakistan's bowling and the last few overs were certainly proof of that. The last 15 overs yielded just 72 runs with 5 wickets. Shaheen Afridi continued his excellent learning curve, picking up his best ODI figures and second 4-wicket haul. For some strange reason Faheem Ashraf did not return after bowling 7 overs while we had 25 overs of spin - for 80 runs and 2 wickets. Hasan Ali got 2 wickets but was not at his best.

The Kiwis had another poor start today, losing 2 wickets pretty quickly but then Taylor and Worker steadied the ship with a 46-run stand. However, at 73/4, it seemed like a lost cause before Nicholls joined forces with Rosco. The 75-run partnership seemed to give New Zealand the tempo but once the former fell, the floodgates opened.

Hmmm.... 210 is the target then. This is not such a bad score on this track. But one which will keep both the teams interested.

Two different white-ball formats and different fortunes for the Pakistan cricket team. If they are scratchless in the shortest format then they are very much vulnerable in the longer ones. They lost their 12th straight game against the kiwis in this format and their poor form in 2018 continued. With Fakhar Zaman failing to give them the head start, their batting problem don't seem to end. On the flip side, with a lukewarm performance in the T20Is, the Kiwis have stepped up their game.
