Right then! 267 to win for Pakistan to keep the series alive. In the first 2 games, 280 has been proved quite easy to chase down. But this is a slightly different pitch, expected to slow down, as was visible in Powerplay 3 with even Maxwell struggling to time his shots. Now, add the rain factor. Would that have spiced up the pitch? Will the ball skid on to the bat? Will the bowlers find it difficult to grip the ball? All these questions will be answered soon.
Pakistan bowled well but questions will be asked to Shoaib Malik as to why did Usman Khan did not bowl his full quota of 10 overs. He was instrumental in keeping Australia quiet in Powerplay 1, with figures of 4-2-8-1 at that stage. Junaid Khan started well but took a beating at the death. The young Hasnain had a poor outing today. But the spin trio of Yasir, Imad and Sohail kept Australia quiet - 3/116 in 27 overs combined.
For a change, Aaron Finch won the toss this afternoon and had no hesitation in batting first. The visitors lost two wickets pretty quickly, with the in-form Khawaja bagging a duck. But the 84-run stand between Finch and Handscomb brought the Aussies back on track. The skipper battled on till the 42nd over but then missed out on his century. However, just when Australia seemed to be in a bit of bother, Maxwell put on a Big Show.
One man scores 90, another scores 71 - that is how this score of 266 has been largely built for Australia. Aaron Finch laid the platform, Peter Handscomb played a good supporting role and towards the end, Glenn Maxwell teed off. 90 runs came in the last 10 overs, which might prove decisive.

Aaron Finch, the Australian skipper says that the wicket looks good and wants to put a score on the board. Informs us that his side have 2 changes from the previous game with Pat Cummins and Jason Behrendorff coming in to replace the duo of Jhye Richardson and Nathan Coulter-Nile. Is pretty happy with his own form and would like to continue batting like he did in Sharjah.

PITCH REPORT - The analyst, Bazid Khan says that conditions are pretty humid around here, almost 75 per cent. Coming to the surface, he informs us that it is different to the normal Abu Dhabi surfaces as it has a lot of grass covering as opposed to the usual ones. He mentions that usually the pitch slows down in the second half out here but tonight it might actually come on better to the bat off the surface due to the grass cover. Reminds us that the D/L method might come into play as there seem to showers around in the area.
Welcome to the third ODI of this 5-match series between Pakistan and Australia in the United Arab Emirates. The visiting side have been excellent so far and comfortably chased down two 280-plus scores that the hosts had put up in the first two games. The Men in Green will have to pull their socks up if they want to keep the series alive. They will hope that they can begin their resurrection at Abu Dhabi. On the other hand, the Kangaroos would like to not allow any kind of chance for the home side to come back in the rubber and continue their domination. Not surprisingly, Pat Cummins has been named the Man Of The Match. Just his second MOM award in ODIs after his first against England on Australia Day, i.e., Jan 26, 2018.
It was a welcome return from rest for Pat Cummins, demolishing the top order and not allowing Pakistan a look in. The burst that he produced allowed the other bowlers to build pressure and every bowler apart from Stoinis got at least one wicket. Adam Zampa cleaned up the tail, taking 4 wickets in his last 10 balls. Earlier in the day, Australia posted a decent 266, riding on a calm 90 by skipper Finch, a counter-attacking 47 from Peter Handscomb and a breathtaking 71 from Glenn Maxwell. They sized up the pitch well, got in and then played their shots.
There were a couple of partnerships in the middle stages of the innings, one involving Imam-ul-Haq and one involving Umar Akmal but that just delayed the inevitable. No one could hang in long out there in the middle and with the run rate mounting with every passing over, the risks came about but did not quite pay off.
On paper, 267 does not look a great target but that is where it comes a bit different in Abu Dhabi. The pitch tends to get slower as the game progresses and that is exactly how it turned out. Pakistan did not get a great start and were 16/3 by the 7th over. There itself, the run chase looked stuffed out.
Easy peasy then for Australia. Series done and dusted with 2 matches to go. Chase was the case in the first two games but not here. Pakistan have clearly not got their best side on paper but make no mistake, the Aussies were at their best.
