Tim Paine's rather defensive captaincy is a major cause for that. When Pakistan were reduced to 57/5, he did not apply the kind of pressure he should have and let the opposition batsmen score freely. It could really cost him and his side. Though, plenty left in this game. Will be interesting to see how his batsmen see off the remaining time before Stumps today with the ball turning and gripping like it is. Should be fun.

The 147-run stand between Zaman and Sarfraz (both of whom missed out on tons) set the tone and it seemed like the hosts would take the game away completely, but an unexpected weapon in Marnus Labuschagne broke that stand and the leggie managed to bag 2 more after that. It helped the visitors to somewhat come back in the game, but those late runs from Yasir Shah saw Pakistan get close to 300, which would disappoint the Australians.

After how the first hour of this opening day panned out, you'd have wondered if they would even get to 200, let alone close to 300. A fine effort from skipper Sarfraz and debutant Zaman to steer their side to safe waters after their top and most of the middle order were torn apart by Nathan Lyon's 4-fer in the morning.

We are all set to get the third and final session underway as the umpires make their way out to the middle, followed by the charged up Aussies. What will no doubt be marked as Pakistan's session will still provide some semblance to the Aussies. The pair of Zaman and Ahmed were motoring along well, scoring 127 runs in the session and looked set. Though, right at the stroke of the break, Marnus Labuschagne came up with an absolute jaffa to dismiss Zaman, thereby stopping him from scoring his maiden Test ton. Tim Paine largely was dormant with his captaincy, but the moment he changed things he got a breakthrough. This wicket might just make him realize what to do and the visitors will look to run through the Pakistan tail. Sarfraz will obviously be the key here and it will all come down to how he plays with the tail to score some more useful runs. Don't go away, play will resume shortly.

He's caught on the front pad and a loud shout goes up. The umpire raises his finger but this time Zaman opts for the review. Replays roll in and show he's gone for all money. The first session of this 2nd Test has been dominated by Australia or should I say, by Nathan Lyon. The offie has had a dream start to this match as he has managed to dismiss four Pakistan batsmen giving away just 12 runs in his 7 overs. After Mohammad Hafeez's unfortunate dismissal, the pair of Fakhar Zaman and Azhar Ali built a 52-run stand to get the innings back on track. However, soon after, the hosts were simply demolished by Lyon as he took four wickets, also barely missing his hat-trick. Pakistan now find themselves in a deep hole and their well-set opener, Zaman, playing on 49 along with his skipper Sarfraz Ahmed will try to rebuild the innings after the break. Australia and Lyon will look to make further inroads and wrap up the first innings as soon as possible. Join us on the other side of the Lunch break for all the action.

The Australians think there's an inside edge as well and they appeal. Umpire S Ravi is unmoved. So, the DRS has been taken and it goes to the third umpire. Replays show there is indeed an edge and Asad has to walk back.

Short, flat and spinning in from outside off, Azhar Ali comes out and punches it uppishly right back to the bowler. It goes off the inside half and Lyon takes a simple catch. With this wicket, Lyon becomes the 5th highest wicket-taker for Australia in Tests.

Drinks. Decent start by Pakistan after electing to bat first, however, they would have been happy if Hafeez would have still been there. The opener was a bit unlucky to be caught at short leg off a perfect flick shot. Pakistan would now look to build a strong partnership and go to Lunch without any further damage. Australia on the flip side, will look to get into the Pakistan middle and lower-middle order as soon as possible.

Siddle comes steaming in and lands it on a length just outside off, Azhar Ali is half-forward to defend and the ball hits the front pad. Loud shout which is turned down. It's taken upstairs after a brief chat as Siddle feels the batsman is out. Paine responds and signals the 'T'. Replays, however, show there is an inside edge. So a good decision from the umpire.

Starc bowls this full on the pads, Hafeez flicks this aerially and it's hit hard. Labuschagne, however, positioned there reacts quickly as the ball is hit to him. It bounces off his left groin, then goes off the inside of his right knee and he manages to gobble it up falling down before the ball touches the ground. Replays confirm the same. Very well done.

Mohammad Hafeez has been caught out. Marnus Labuschagne has taken an absolute blinder at short leg from the looks of it. The umpire wants to make sure though if it's taken cleanly so it's taken upstairs. The soft signal is out.

The physio is out to have a look at Hafeez. The doesn't seem to be looking at the thumb, which is a good sign. He shoulder is the issue, which is definitely hurting. The magic spray is out and it's being treated. Should be fine to continue from the looks of it.

Pakistan will be feeling the heat, both figuratively and literally. Having victory elude them, from the position they were in, will have raised questions over Sarfraz' captaincy more than anything else. Amidst all the tensions surrounding Australian cricket since the last passage of time, the gruelling contest in Dubai, where the visitors managed to provide a resolute resistance, the draw would be very welcome in the Australian camp. Pakistan were on the verge of a thumping victory, but Usman Khawaja stood tall in between that. He had ample support from Aaron Finch, Travis Head and skipper Tim Paine, who held his own to see the draw out. Hello and welcome, for the final Test of this 2-match series.

Pakistan are firmly in the driver's seat as things stand. Still a lot of time left in this game, as we're only halfway through the second day. Pretty sure they would like to extend their lead to 400-450 at the very least. Might be difficult, as the track is turning. Will be interesting to see how the Australian bowlers go about their business. And will the Pakistan batsmen stand firm this time out? We'll find out soon when the third innings begins.

There were only two instances when Australia looked comfortable. One when Aaron Finch was in the middle and the other when Mitchell Starc provided a flurry of runs with Marnus Labuschagne towards the end. Other than that, no other batsman looked like they had the stomach to put up a fight. Before the end of Day 1, they lost last match's hero Usman Khawaja and nightwatchman Peter Siddle, and today followed more of the same. Not a pretty sight for any Aussie fan as they had to witness another collapse.

A wonderful bowling performance from the hosts as they have run right through the Australian batting line-up. Mohammad Abbas leading the charge against the Kangaroos once again, picked up a 5-fer and got things going as he demolished the top order. Shah and Asif joined in sharing 4 wickets between them and wrapped things up.

Australia were already damaged when Paine was trapped right in front of the wickets by the offie Bilal. Pakistan are all over Australia and will now look to run through them as soon as possible after the break. A dream session for Pakistan as they have rattled the Aussies by taking 5 wickets giving away just 71 runs in 27.4 overs. The destruction was started today by Abbas when he dismissed both Shaun Marsh and Travis Head quickly. Finch, along with Mitchell Marsh, then started to rebuild the innings but after a cautious 19-run stand, Mitchell fell prey to the guile of Yasir Shah. Bilal Asif was then introduced into the attack and he made an impact immediately taking out Finch at short leg.

It is a bit quicker and flatter around off, Paine decides to go back and that proves to be his biggest error as the ball lands and spins in prodigiously. The hosts go up in a big appeal and the umpire raises his finger after thinking for a couple of seconds. After a 12-wicket first day of this Test ensured that the game has progressed ahead in full speed, it was a roller-coaster ride with both teams winning various passages of play throughout the day and gaining and losing control on the game. In the first hour of the day Nathan Lyon bamboozled the hosts' top order by picking a 4-wicket haul. But then a massive 147-run stand between Zaman and Sarfraz saw them pull things back and even ahead a bit, as Pakistan posted 282 on the board and bagged 2 Aussie wickets before Stumps. They will want to build on that and make further inroads into the Australian batting line-up at the earliest. The Kangaroos, on the flip side, will hope for a solid batting performance today and gain a first innings lead by end of day. It sure is going to be an intense battle to get a better grip on the match.

... Day 2, Session 1 ...

Australia have started their innings on a wobbly note. The unfortunate wicket of Khawaja, caught down the leg side, and then the dismissal of the nightwatchman Siddle on the last ball of the day has put the tourists on the back foot. Earlier, Pakistan fought back well after an initial collapse to get their total up to 282. Nathan Lyon was simply unplayable in the first session but made no impact after that. The surprise package of the day was Marnus Labuschagne, who was brought on by Paine to get a breakthrough and that's exactly what he did. The leggie got three and managed to restrict the hosts below 300.

A fairly even first day of this Test, however, you can argue that it is slightly tilting in favor of Pakistan. They have managed to close off the day, which did not start on an ideal note for them in the first session, on a high.

Mohammad Abbas to Peter Siddle. OUT! Abbas strikes on the very last ball of the day. What a brilliant way to end the day for Pakistan. Abbas dishes this on a good length around off, Siddle again looks to block this off from within his crease. The ball hits the deck and deviates into the batsman. It beats Siddle's tentative push on the inside and raps him flush on the pads in front of the stumps. It's very close as Pakistan go up in a huge appeal. Surprisingly, the umpire turns it down. Sarfraz does not wait any time and goes for the review. replays roll in and display three reds on the screen which means that Siddle will not come out to bat tomorrow morning. That is STUMPS ON DAY 1.

There's still about 12 overs left in the day and Pakistan will look to scalp at least a couple of wickets before the end of the day. Pakistan had a good day with the bat. They had a firm lead to begin with and they capitalized on that with everyone chipping in. Babar fell agonizingly short of what would have been a well-deserved ton, while Sarfraz scored consecutive fifties. The hosts are in a dominant position though, and it all boils down to how the Aussies see this last phase of Day 3 out. Don't go anywhere, the final innings will begin shortly.

And there comes the call from the dressing room. PAKISTAN HAVE DECLARED AND SET A TARGET OF 538 for Australia. Everyone was expecting it to come much sooner, though it seems like the skipper was waiting to get to a hundred. Since he couldn't, the call was made almost instantly.

Full and outside off, Azhar Ali reaches out to it and gets an edge down towards third man. The ball is rolling towards the fence, but it stops just inside the rope. Starc jogs towards the ball and throws it back in. Here's the thing though, both batsmen are unaware that the ball has stopped inside the rope as they don't pay attention. They meet in the middle and talk about what they'll do on the next ball. Tim Paine sees this, gets to the stumps and as the throw from Starc comes in, he takes the bails off. Ali and Shafiq are found shocked. The former departs as he was still on the danger side of the crease. He can't believe it. Australia needed a dismissal and it's come in the most ridiculous forms. Then Fakhar Zaman scored another fifty on his debut and Azhar Ali followed suit (remaining unbeaten). Pakistan, who are 281 runs ahead at the moment, will hope to get close to 400. Australia, as difficult as it may be, will attempt to wrap them up under 350. Let's see how it all unfolds.

They were bamboozled earlier in the day for 145 by a relentless Mohammad Abbas and now find themselves in a ditch. Satisfying day for the hosts. Ali and Sohail walk off the field and into the dressing room where they are greeted by a smiling Sarfraz Ahmed. The lead has swelled a lot already, with it expected to go up even more. Twin fifties from Fakhar Zaman on debut and an unbeaten fifty from Azhar Ali has put Pakistan in a comfortable position. Nathan Lyon was the only one looking threatening, and he was quite unfortunate not to bag more wickets than he did as he almost drew edges and catches went inches wide on several occasions.
