In 2019, the Indian Premier League (IPL) enters its 12th season. The IPL 2019 is scheduled to be held from March 23 and will possibly end on May 12. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the IPL 2019 schedule for just two weeks due to the Lok Sabha elections in the country. The board is expected to release full fixture soon and will make sure there is no match in a city going to polls.
Meanwhile, as the initial schedule released by BCCI, defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening match of the IPL 2019. Chennai Super Kings won the IPL 2018 after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final.
The number of participating teams in IPL remains eight for this season as well. However, Delhi Daredevils changes their name and logo to Delhi Capitals for IPL 2019. Delhi are yet to win an IPL title. Apart from the Delhi franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) will be looking for their maiden title as well.
Ahead of the IPL 2019, the players’ auction took place in December last year. Most of the teams had their squad settled and went for few players at the auction. Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals were the teams who were prominently active during the auction. Jaydev Unadkat (RR) and uncapped Varun Chakravarthy (KXIP) emerged as the most expensive players at Rs.8.4 crore.
After the IPL 2019, the Indian players will take part in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, which starts on May 30. India’s opens their campaign against South Africa on June 05 after having completed the mandatory 15-day gap between the conclusion of IPL and international match as per Lodha Committee’s recommendation.
