Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Mumbai Indians Highlights And Cricket Score 31th Match - T20 Commentary
Who is your money on? We reckon that Bangalore have got a below-par score. Moeen feels that they have got enough. Only time will tell whose feeling is closer to reality.
Moeen Ali is caught down for a chat. He says that it was tough to start off the innings but once they set in, it was easy to play. Reckons this is a decent total. Feels AB's run out restricted them but he feels that it is a good total. Tells the team wanted to be a bit braver and other players like him had to step up.
Mumbai bowled brilliantly, making excellent use of the conditions on offer. Behrendorff probably bowled the ball of the innings, getting Kohli caught behind cheaply but then got hammered later on. Malinga and Bumrah then strut their stuff, conceding just 35 runs in the last 4 overs, picking up 5 wickets. Malinga picked up 4 of his own in the game, reminding everyone that he is not done yet. The best part was that they were economical in the middle overs even when they were not picking up wickets.
Not a great batting effort yet again from the visiting side. AB de Villiers was in his elements, scoring a magnificent 75 while Moeen Ali sounded a warning to the English selectors for the World Cup with a timely 50. Parthiv did his usual stuff, getting starts and then throwing it away. Nothing from the others.
172 is the target... ummm... enough? Given that 192 is the average first innings total at this venue, this may not prove to be enough. Also, dew is set to make an appearance, so these factors do not point to a great feeling for Bangalore.
Lasith Malinga to Umesh Yadav. A couple of byes to end the innings. A low full toss outside off, slower in pace, Umesh swings too hard but misses. De Kock collects and under-arms at the striker's end but misses. Malinga then collects and has a shy at the bowler's end but misses. Concedes an overthrow as the ball goes to Kieron Pollard at long off. BANGALORE FINISH ON 171/7!
Mohammed Siraj is the new man in.
Lasith Malinga to Pawan Negi. OUT! Third wicket in the over! A length ball outside off, Negi swings hard but only gets a top edge. An easier catch for de Kock this time, running to his left again, now point.
Lasith Malinga to Pawan Negi. Outside off, Negi looks to steer it to third man but misses.
Umesh Yadav walks in at number 8, replacing Nath.
Lasith Malinga to Akshdeep Nath. OUT! Two in two for Mumbai and that is a stunning catch from Quinton de Kock! Virat Kohli just walks back into the dressing room after seeing that - shot or effort, cannot say. Nath comes down the track a month too early and Malinga is experienced enough to bowl a slower one. Akshdeep has a wild swing and only gets a top edge. It was actually a simple catch for short fine leg but Quinton de Kock called for it, ran all the way to square leg, kept his eyes on the ball and then dived to take a stunner!
Pawan Negi is the new man in at number 7, replacing AB.
Lasith Malinga to AB de Villiers. OUT! Brilliant from Pollard in the field. This can be the difference in the match. Bangalore needed to AB to play most balls of the last over but he goes out in the very second ball. Full outside off, de Villiers plays it wide of long on and looks for two. De Villiers was off for the second but Akshdeep Nath sends him back. Pollard from the deep has a shy at the bowler's end. He hits bull's eye. AB looks unhappy and replays show why. He is out of his crease and has to go back. Should Akshdeep Nath have sacrificed his wicket?
Direct hit! Has AB de Villiers been caught napping? He wanted the second but was sent back. Was he late in getting back?
Lasith Malinga to AB de Villiers. SIX! That one is out of here and into the stands. Full toss on middle, AB de Villiers smokes this into the mid-wicket stand for a maximum.
Jasprit Bumrah to AB de Villiers. On middle, flicked through mid-wicket for one more. Just 10 from the over and Bumrah finishes with figures of 4-1-22-0.
The phsyio is out in the middle to have a look at AB de Villiers. The mandatory checks are being done. AB looks alright though and seems fine to continue.
Jasprit Bumrah to AB de Villiers. OUCH! On the helmet. AB has been stunned by a vicious bouncer. A short ball, outside off, de Villiers looks to pull but is way too late into his shot. The ball jags back in sharply and hits him on the back of his helmet.
Jasprit Bumrah to AB de Villiers. Excellent yorker outside off, AB cannot do much with it and looks to squeeze it out but misses.
Jasprit Bumrah to AB de Villiers. FOUR! Another wonderful ball and that has been dispatched too! Very full outside off, de Villiers drives it through the covers and the ball races away again!
Jasprit Bumrah to AB de Villiers. FOUR! Another AB special. Low full toss outside off, AB backs away and crunches this wide of mid off for a boundary. Nothing wrong with the ball. Bumrah missed his length by just an inch or two.
Jasprit Bumrah to Akshdeep Nath. A length ball, bowled seam up, outside off, Nath looks to push it through point but gets a thick inside edge onto his pads. The ball rolls towards point and the batsmen take a single.
Lasith Malinga to Akshdeep Nath. Full toss on the pads, Nath flicks it to square leg and gets off the mark. He will keep the strike. Brilliant over from Malinga. 8 runs and 2 wickets from the over.
Akshdeep Nath walks in at number 6, replacing Stoinis.
Lasith Malinga to Marcus Stoinis. OUT! Malinga gets his second of the over and Marcus Stoinis departs for a duck. He has been outdone here by a very clever bowler. It is bowled at 119.3 kph on a length on middle and leg. Stoinis looks to flick but is way too early in his shot. He gets a leading edge which goes straight to Rohit Sharma at cover who makes no mistake.
Lasith Malinga to Marcus Stoinis. A loopy yorker on off, Stoinis jams it out.
Lasith Malinga to AB de Villiers. Full on off, de Villers hits it to the fielder at deep cover and gets a single.
Lasith Malinga to AB de Villiers. SIX! Not a bad ball at all, but this is all class from AB. He walks across his stumps and Malinga looks to fire it down the leg side. It turns out to be a full toss but AB still connects with his paddle, lapping it over fine leg, right onto the third tier!
Marcus Stoinis walks in at number 5, replacing Moeen.
Lasith Malinga to Moeen Ali. OUT! The 95-run stand is broken and more importantly for Mumbai a new batsman will come in. Bangalore needed Moeen to play through but he cannot do so. Slower delivery on middle and leg, Moeen looks to go over mid-wicket but the lack of pace does him and he hits it straight to Hardik Pandya at deep mid-wicket.
Lasith Malinga to bowl the 18th. 2-0-16-0 so far.
Jasprit Bumrah to Moeen Ali. Fifty for Moeen. The job is not done yet though and he needs to keep on accelerating and get his side to a big total. He gets to his fifty by flicking it towards mid-wicket.
Jasprit Bumrah to Moeen Ali. Play and a miss. Shorter ball outside off, Moeen looks to pull but misses.

Jasprit Bumrah to Moeen Ali. Shorter ball from Bumrah, Moeen pulls it wide of mid-wicket and gets a couple.
Jasprit Bumrah to AB de Villiers. Fifty for AB de Villiers. A very good knock under pressure from him. His second consecutive fifty of the season. He though now needs to carry on and play till the end. He gets there due to a misfield. A low full toss on off, AB does not time it well and hits it wide of long on, Pollard misfields allowing them to take three runs.
STRATEGIC BREAK. The last 4 overs have seen some surge from Bangalore. 50 runs have come in that period and all of a sudden, the visitors look good to get to 180. That will still take some getting though, as a wicket here might set the cat free amongst the pigeons. Remember, this is the Wankhede and even 200 can be chased down during the night. Will we see an AB special? Someone might have a say in that. Jasprit Bumrah returns. 2-1-4-0 so far.
Jason Behrendorff to Moeen Ali. SIX! 17 runs off it, just what Bangalore wanted. The last ball is full on off, Moeen takes the aerial route and heaves it over covers for a maximum. Not the way Behrendorff would have wanted to end. He finishes with the figures of 4-0-49-1.
Jason Behrendorff to Moeen Ali. Good comeback. Yorker outside off, Moeen looks to play it but misses.

Says that being with the team has taught him a lot, mainly their work ethics. Feels that the pitch will do something in the first innings but then dew will make it easier to bat on in the second. The bowlers till now have executed their plans well and Mumbai will hope they can continue doing that. AB de Villiers holds the key here for Bangalore. They need to get runs on the board and that too at a good rate. They have found tough to score but will need to find a way out.

Hello and welcome to match 31 and it's Mumbai colliding with Bangalore tonight at the Wankhede stadium. The last time these two sides met this season it was action-packed and dramatic to say the least. We are expecting more of the same tonight, more now as Bangalore have finally won their first game of the season and will look to get on a run and keep their hopes alive to qualify for the playoffs. Mumbai will look to bounce back after an agonizingly close defeat against Rajasthan in the last game and make it two for the season against Bangalore. This has all the ingredients to be a crunch contest. Who will come out on top? Stay tuned for updates as the toss is not far away.
That is it from this match then. With this win, Mumbai move to third in the points table with 10 points. Delhi also have 10, but they have a better net run rate. Whereas Bangalore lose their 7th game out of 8, making it very difficult for them to qualify for the knockouts. Action continues on Tuesday as Punjab host Rajasthan at the IS Bindra stadium, Mohali. That match begins at 8 pm IST (1430 GMT). Join us for that one. Till then, cheers!
LASITH MALINGA HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH FOR HIS 4/31. Says that the last couple of games have been difficult for him but then he went back home, did well there and then came back here and performed. Feels that mentally one has to be prepared to tackle oppositions and then execute the plans on the field. Says that Mumbai had their plans against AB de Villiers and Malinga trusted his variations against him.
Victorious Mumbai skipper, Rohit Sharma, admires Hardik Pandya's hitting in the death overs, which has been helping the team big time. Stresses that it was something which he wanted to work upon and prove a point to himself more than anyone else. Adds that it holds the team in a better position as it knows that there is someone who can get the big hits in quick time at the death. On Lasith Malinga, Rohit says that he has always stressed on Malinga's importance and adds that his form is very critical. Hopes to look forward to more such performances from him. Adds that it is not easy bowling in the death overs at the Wankhede but Malinga excelled against AB de Villiers. Praises his bowlers overall for restricting Bangalore to a chaseable total. Is still bemused with so much turn on the Wankhede track and thanks the good start that the team got in the Powerplay. Finally says that he is still struggling to come to terms with the track here.
Bangalore captain, Virat Kohli, says they played a good game but were poor with the ball in the first 6 overs. Credits the way they bowled after though and came back in the game. Reckons that with the dew, it was difficult to bowl. Credits Moeen Ali for the way he played with both the bat and the ball. He says that Moeen is a senior player and it is good to see him perform.
Spare a thought for Moeen Ali and AB de Villiers. The duo scored more than 70 percent of the runs and then Ali bowled superbly as well. But the batting did not step up at well, mustering only 171, which turned out to be a below-par score on this surface.
Here comes Hardik, to have a chat with Mel Jones. Praises de Kock and Rohit for setting up the run chase. Reckons that Bangalore did not bowl well in the Powerplay and that is what hurt them. Stresses that Mumbai have hit-the-deck bowlers and they utilized the wicket to perfection. Feels that AB de Villiers' run out could also be crucial, probably creating a difference of 15-20 runs.
A clinical performance, one can say from Mumbai. Probably, the only criticism can come for Ishan Kishan, throwing his wicket away at a crucial juncture but otherwise a superb batting display. Hardik Pandya strut his stuff at the end, with a 16-ball 37.
Chasing 172, Mumbai had a hurricane start, racing to 70 in 7 overs. But a few quick wickets pushed them back, raising hopes of a Bangalore comeback. Moeen Ali and Yuzvendra Chahal were spinning a web and returned with figures of 8-0-45-4. But once they were done, Mumbai just coasted again. None of the others were impressive and dew did not help their cause either.
Not quite totally unexpected. Mumbai were favourites to win the game and they did so, albeit stretching it to the 19th over. Bangalore were always a few runs light and that proved right in the end.
