Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings Highlights And Cricket Score 44th Match - T20 Commentary

End of Over : 20.0 MI: 155/4

Right then, a target in excess of 150 on a turning deck is always dicey. Mumbai also possess quality in their spin department and their pacers cannot be ignored as well. Chennai, minus Faf du Plessis and MS Dhoni, have to bat really well to scale down this target and avoid their first loss at home. A riveting chase coming up shortly, don't go too far away...

Mitchell Santner admits that it is very hot and humid. Reckons that Mumbai have got a pretty competitive total but also hopes that Chennai chase it down. Is happy with the fact that the pitch turned, given that they do not turn much in New Zealand. On his limited opportunities this season, Mitchell puts it down to the quality of the squad and puts his belief in doing the basic things right and making the best of every chance. On Dhoni's fitness, MS says that captain MS has a bit of a stiff back but is fine. Adds that there is enough batting without him to chase this total down and notes down the keeping of wickets intact in the Powerplay. Says that Mumbai's bowling line-up is world class and believes that Chennai will have to work hard. Hopes that the dew sets in tonight as well, given that there has been plenty of it in the past few days. But does not feel that Mumbai will be affected by it too much.

This pitch is tailor-made for spinners. Harbhajan Singh was very tidy at the start while Mitchell Santner choked Mumbai in the middle overs. Imran Tahir had an off day along with Deepak Chahar but the efforts of the Turbanator and the Kiwi meant that the yellow team didn't lose too much ground. Here is Santner giving an interview to Michael Slater...

Exceptional bowling at the death by Chennai to restrict Mumbai to a par score. A very underwhelming finish for the touring team. They were going superbly in the Powerplay and were in a decent position at the halfway mark. But then, Evin Lewis and Krunal Pandya departed in quick succession and that was soon followed by the wicket of Rohit Sharma, who struck his maiden fifty this season. Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard did try hard but failed to give the kind of finish they usually do.

19.6 2

Dwayne Bravo to Hardik Pandya. Too full in length and outside off, Pandya squeezes it out through point for a couple of runs. Mumbai end on 155/4!

19.5 6

Dwayne Bravo to Hardik Pandya. SIX! This one has disappeared! Slower delivery again from Bravo but it's on a fuller length outside off, Pandya shows his muscle power there as he deposits it over long on for a biggie. 150 up for Mumbai.

19.4 4

Dwayne Bravo to Hardik Pandya. FOUR! Yet another boundary down the ground. Bravo misses his mark and it's a low full toss around off, Hardik gives it the full whack of his bat and smacks it down the ground for a boundary.

19.3 0

Dwayne Bravo to Hardik Pandya. Smartly bowled. Bravo sees the batsman moving across on the off side and bowls it fullish and wide outside off. Hardik swings his bat at it but it goes underneath.

19.2 1

Dwayne Bravo to Kieron Pollard. Bravo eyes the yorker but ends up slipping a low full toss outside off, Pollard strokes it down to long off for a run.

19.1 4

Dwayne Bravo to Kieron Pollard. FOUR! Boom! Bravo delivers it slower and fuller outside off, Pollard throws all his power behind his shot and spanks it over the bowler's head for a boundary.

End of Over : 19 10 Runs MI: 138/4
18.6 0

Deepak Chahar to Hardik Pandya. Left alone thinking it to be a wide? Short in length and wide outside off, Hardik allows it through. Only 10 from the over given the caliber of batsmen in the middle. Chennai would take it.

18.5 1

Deepak Chahar to Kieron Pollard. Short in length on off, slower in pace, Pollard pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a run.

18.4 2

Deepak Chahar to Kieron Pollard. Full and sliding down the leg side, Pollard tries to flick but misses. It goes off his pads to square leg and they cross a couple of times. Given as runs. Maybe, some bat involved.

18.3 4

Deepak Chahar to Kieron Pollard. FOUR! Not in control but still a boundary. Chahar delivers a short ball again, on the slower side, Pollard drags his pull shot behind square leg and there is no protection in the deep.

18.2 1

Deepak Chahar to Hardik Pandya. IN THE AIR... SAFE! Slower delivery deceives the batsman. It's on the shorter side outside off, Hardik stands back to play the pull shot but it takes the top edge and flies towards mid off. Raina puts in a sprint from extra cover but it falls wide of him. The Chennai skipper rolls over the ball and seems to have hurt himself. He is in some pain but then recovers quickly. One run has been added to the total.

18.1 2

Deepak Chahar to Hardik Pandya. Pandya plays a pull shot to this short delivery. They manage to come back for the second.

Deepak Chahar returns. 3-0-36-1 so far.

End of Over : 18 6 Runs MI: 128/4
17.6 0

Dwayne Bravo to Kieron Pollard. A yorker wide outside off, just inside the tramline, Pollard allows it through. 6 from the over, a good one at this stage particularly.

17.5 1

Dwayne Bravo to Hardik Pandya. Driven through mid off by the batsman. They pick up a single.

17.4 2

Dwayne Bravo to Hardik Pandya. On a length and outside off, it's whacked to deep cover-point for a couple of runs.

17.4 wd

Dwayne Bravo to Hardik Pandya. Wide! Slower one but way wide outside off, it's a yorker, Pandya allows it through.

17.3 1

Dwayne Bravo to Kieron Pollard. Driven through the covers by the batsman. One run added to the total.

17.2 0

Dwayne Bravo to Kieron Pollard. Beaten comprehensively. A slower delivery outside off, Kieron walks across the stumps to play at it but is early into his shot. It beats the inside edge and rolls behind. Bravo and Pollard exchange stares. A friendly one.

17.1 1

Dwayne Bravo to Hardik Pandya. The score reads 123/4! Slower and fuller outside off, it's driven through mid off for a run.

16.6 0

Mitchell Santner to Kieron Pollard. Beaten! Spinning away from the batsman, Kieron winds up for a big shot, probably over the bowler's head but misses. Rayudu collects the ball and appeals but nothing from the umpire. The keeper looks at his skipper standing at second slip who takes it jokingly and turns down the offer. Santner has bowled out with exceptional figures, 4-0-13-2!

16.5 0

Mitchell Santner to Kieron Pollard. Pollard has played that off the front foot and into the ground.

16.4 0

Mitchell Santner to Kieron Pollard. Fullish and on off, driven back to the bowler.

16.3 0

Mitchell Santner to Kieron Pollard. Edgy! Tossed up ball around middle and off, Pollard pushes inside the line and gets it away off the outside half. It rolls wide of second slip.

Kieron Pollard arrives. Suresh Raina has employed two slips for the big man.

16.2 W

Mitchell Santner to Rohit Sharma. OUT! Body blow to Mumbai, Rohit Sharma is dismissed. Santner follows the batsman down the leg side with a flat and full delivery, Sharma aims to go downtown but fails to generate enough power or timing behind his shot. Murali Vijay in the deep at long on takes the simplest of catches. A fine knock by the Mumbai skipper but he would have liked to bat till the end.

16.1 1

Mitchell Santner to Hardik Pandya. Flatter and shorter, Pandya punches it down to long on for a run.

End of Over : 16 16 Runs MI: 121/3

15.5 1

Imran Tahir to Hardik Pandya. The batsman works it down the leg side. They pick up a single.

15.4 0

Imran Tahir to Hardik Pandya. Forces a full ball back to the bowler and Tahir does really well to stop it in his followthrough.

15.3 1

Imran Tahir to Rohit Sharma. Oohhh...nearly deceived the batsman there. Sharma is early into the charge and Tahir senses that. He shortens his length and serves it outside off. Sharma adjusts well to play it out safely towards short third man for a run.

15.2 4

Imran Tahir to Rohit Sharma. FOUR! Two in two for Rohit! Tahir alters his length and goes too full this time. It's flat and on middle, Sharma takes his front leg forward and heaves it over mid-wicket. This time Shorey sprints across to his left but fails to keep it inside the rope.

Rohit is not happy with his bat. Matthew Hayden reckons that with the death overs approaching, the skipper might be looking to go in for a lighter bat.

15.1 4

Imran Tahir to Rohit Sharma. FOUR! A good attempt in the deep by Shorey but to no avail. A long hop on middle and off, Rohit gets back and pulls it to deep mid-wicket. Shorey runs across to his right in the deep, puts in a dive but fails to pull it back.

End of Over : 15 2 Runs MI: 105/3
14.6 1

Mitchell Santner to Rohit Sharma. Loopy and on off, Sharma drives it through extra cover for a run. 105/3 with five overs to go, can Mumbai add another 70-75 from here?

14.5 0

Mitchell Santner to Rohit Sharma. Flighted on off, Rohit has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.

14.4 1

Mitchell Santner to Hardik Pandya. Finally connects. It's been driven superbly through the covers. One run added to the total.

14.3 0

Mitchell Santner to Hardik Pandya. Beaten again! This one is wide outside off, Pandya reaches out for it to play the cover drive but fails to meet the ball. It once again spins past his blade.

14.2 0

14.1 0

Mitchell Santner to Hardik Pandya. Quicker and fuller on the pads, Hardik tries to flick but closes the face of the bat early. It takes the leading edge and rolls to short third man.

Strategic break. Mumbai were going great guns but all of a sudden they have encountered a roadblock. Two wickets in quick succession and Chennai have got an opening here. They would try to build on this and limit Mumbai to as much as possible. But the presence of Rohit and Hardik in the middle along with the intimidating sight of Kieron Pollard sitting in the dugout will be bothering them. Let's see how the innings ends...

End of Over : 14 2 Runs MI: 103/3
13.6 0

Imran Tahir to Rohit Sharma. Around off, pushed back to the bowler again.

12.3 0

Mitchell Santner to Rohit Sharma. Sharma has played that off the front foot and into the ground.

12.2 0

Mitchell Santner to Rohit Sharma. Tries playing the inside-out shot but fails to middle his shot. It takes the leading half of his blade and rolls to mid off.

Krunal Pandya is in next, probably to maintain the left-right combination.

12.1 W

Mitchell Santner to Evin Lewis. OUT! Lewis holes out! Nothing much wrong in the shot selection but the West Indian fails to middle it properly. Flighted delivery, landing full on middle, this one is right in the slot and Evin decides to heave it over the leg side. But it catches the inner half of his bat and flies straight down to Dwayne Bravo at deep mid-wicket. The 75-run stand is broken and Chennai would like to build on this.

Adds that they have done well as a batting unit and just need to do the process right. Confirms that MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja are not well, and Faf du Plessis is not playing. Mitchell Santner, Dhruv Shorey and Murali Vijay are the replacements.

Toss - The coin falls in favour of Suresh Raina and CHENNAI WILL FIELD!

Pitch report - Daren Ganga is inspecting the surface and he starts by mentioning that this is the same deck where Bangalore got all out for 70 and Hyderabad made 175 in the last game which was later chased down by Chennai. Ganga feels that it will be easier for batting and advises the batsmen to play straight early on. Reckons that both teams are likely to play three spinners.

BIG NEWS - MS Dhoni is down with fever and won't be playing tonight. Suresh Raina will be leading Chennai.

Clash of the Titans! Battle of the heavyweights! El Clasico of the Indian T20 League. The clash between Chennai and Mumbai has always been fierce and these two rivals are once again locking horns this season. The blue brigade won the reverse fixture and would be aiming to make it 2 in 2 while the yellow army would be eyeing revenge. Both possess a formidable unit and the star value of this encounter is going to be sky-high. Welcome to the coverage of this electric contest. We just can't wait for the action to get underway. Sit back and enjoy...

End of Over : 17.4 CSK: 109/10

Right then! 16 to Chennai, 14 to Mumbai. Both are almost there in the playoffs. It was a poor evening for Chennai and they will look to bounce back from this one and seal their place in the final four. We now approach the weekend and on a rare occasion, there is just one game. Rajasthan host Hyderabad in Jaipur and match number 45 begins at 8 pm local (1430 GMT). ADIOS! TAKE CARE!

Victorious Mumbai skipper ROHIT SHARMA HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Now, he smiles and says that in hindsight, it was better that Mumbai lost the toss, as he was looking to chase. But then, he stresses that games are not won based on tosses and you have to bowl or bat well irrespective of the situation. Praises his bowling unit for this resounding win. On Rahul Chahar, Sharma says that the leggie knows what he exactly needs to do and is very clear in his mind, being confident as well, which makes it easier for him as a captain. On his first half century this season, Rohit says that it is pleasing but adds that he had been hitting the ball well in the previous games and hence, he believed that one day, he will get a decent score. Admits that Dhoni's absence is a big boost to the opposition because he has been around for so many years taking Chennai out of a hole many a time. Smiles sheepishly and says that his sickness is uncontrollable and lauds his team. Does not want to take anything for granted and says that Mumbai are still not into the playoffs as yet. Adds that they have three games coming up - two at home against Kolkata and Hyderabad and one at Eden Gardens against Kolkata again. Wants to make use of those home games and seal their place in the final four.

Krunal Pandya gives a quick interview. Says that the pitch was on the slower side and he just wanted to bowl in the right areas. States that when the pitch is helping you, as a bowler you just need to hit the right areas. On being asked whether he wanted to bowl his fourth over, Krunal tells that he wanted to but eventually what matters is team winning and we got that. On his batting, Pandya replies that they have wickets in hand and he thought to go after the bowlers to pressurize them but some days it pays off, some days it don't. Smiles and says that he would love to pack this wicket and take it to the Wankhede. Mentions that they now know the conditions and it will help them if they have to come here for the first qualifier.

Chennai skipper, Suresh Raina admits that they didn't bat well as they kept losing wickets and they have to take responsibility as a batting unit, given how well their bowlers have been performing. Says that 155 was chasable, rues the fact that they lost too many wickets in the Powerplay and didn't rotate the strike much. Is not happy with the batting as they have been losing a lot of wickets of late. Hopes to improve in future games. Mentions that they need to regroup and see what they can do. Wants his batsmen to be more relaxed in their approach and hopes that things will fall in place.

Sensational bowling performance from Mumbai. Malinga was expensive but picked up 4 wickets. Krunal and Bumrah - what a deadly combination - 6-0-17-4. Really broke the back of the home side. Their biggest defeat at home, their lowest home total as well. A night to forget...

5 batsmen from numbers 2 to 6 dismissed in single digits. Tells you what a poor batting performance it has been. At 66/6, it was virtually game over, with Vijay being the 6th casualty. Bravo and Santner tried to fight back a bit but that only delayed the inevitable. Eventually, the game was done and dusted in the 18th over.

Let us take all our focus to the toss. Should Raina have batted first? But then, even Rohit said that he wanted to chase. Perhaps because of the expected dew factor. But that never came. Mumbai huffed and puffed to 155 but Chennai could not even huff. They were choked right from the start and could never breathe.

No Dhoni, no Midas magic. That is what it seems looking at this Chennai side. Two matches without him, two big losses. This could be a massive dent in their confidence.
