Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Chennai Super Kings Highlights And Cricket Score Qualifier 1 Match - T20 Commentary
The target is quite low considering the history of this venue but in a crunch game like this, anything is possible. Hyderabad are a team possessing one of the best bowling attacks and they are quite capable of defending this total. For Chennai, start will be important. The lower ones often prove to be trickier and the 2-time champions would be aware of it. Let's see how they approach. Join us in a short while.
It was a dismal batting show by Hyderabad in this pressure game. Their top order got blown away while the middle order once again failed to step up. The Chennai bowlers were stupendous and overall their game plan was to the T. The use of bowlers from MS Dhoni was simply brilliant and everyone looked charged up for this encounter. They were so much on song that Dhoni didn't even feel the need to bowl his most experienced bowler, Harbhajan Singh. Dwayne Bravo was the standout performer and the rest also contributed equally well. Shardul Thakur, though, was unfortunate to be at the receiving end of Carlos Brathwaite in the last over. Otherwise, he too bowled nicely.
20 runs in the final over and the 51-run stand between Carlos Brathwaite and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have provided some respectability to Hyderabad's total. Although, they have managed a below par total, the momentum currently is with them. Carlos Brathwaite certainly reminded everyone about his name and if Hyderabad manage to pull off a win today - the Indian T20 League will surely 'Remember the name!'
Shardul Thakur to Carlos Brathwaite. OUT! Run out to end proceedings. Short one by Thakur, well-directed, Carlos tries to pull but misses. They attempt to steal a bye but Dhoni scores a direct hit after collecting the ball. Kumar is well short and HYDERABAD END ON 139/7!
Shardul Thakur to Carlos Brathwaite. SIX! All power! He is a powerhouse! We know that. Windies know that. Eden Gardens knows that. Ben Stokes also knows that. This one is short and wide outside off, Brathwaite latches onto it and launches it over the bowler's head.
Shardul Thakur to Carlos Brathwaite. Wide! Sliding down the leg side, on a shortish length, Brathwaite swings and misses.
Shardul Thakur to Carlos Brathwaite. FOUR! Boom! Too full and wide outside off, once again Carlos has his weight on the back leg but does well with his extension of arms. Connects superbly and sends it rocketing to the deep cover fence.
Shardul Thakur to Carlos Brathwaite. SIX! High and handsome! Thakur aims for the blockhole but ends up serving a full toss outside off, Brathwaite dismisses it from his sight and clears mid-wicket with ease.
Shardul Thakur to Carlos Brathwaite. A miscued paddle scoop has travelled to deep mid-wicket and they take a couple. It went off the toe end of the bat, showed the replays.
Shardul Thakur to Carlos Brathwaite. Wide! Too full and very wide outside off, Brathwaite swishes and misses. The reason he didn't get his bat on ball was his entire weight was on his back leg.
Shardul Thakur to Carlos Brathwaite. Hits the yorker mark outside off, Brathwaite digs it out to covers and denies the single. Hmmm...
Shardul Thakur to bowl the last over.
Lungi Ngidi to Carlos Brathwaite. Width on offer outside off, Carlos runs it down to third man and keeps strike for the next over with a run.
Lungi Ngidi to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Shortish and outside off, Kumar flat-bats it over covers and it goes on one bounce to the fielder in the deep. A single taken.
Lungi Ngidi to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Swing and a miss. Bhuvneshwar winds up for a big shot over the leg side but is beaten for pace. That's not his forte, he should be looking to rotate the strike and hand it back to the big West Indian.
Lungi Ngidi to Carlos Brathwaite. On a shortish length on off, Brathwaite deflects it down to third man and picks up a single.
Lungi Ngidi to Carlos Brathwaite. Play and a miss! Good length ball angling into the batsman, around off at 134.8 kph, Brathwaite shuffles across the stumps with an attempted paddle scoop but fails to make any connection. When you got so much power, why not back your strength and go downtown...
Lungi Ngidi to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Slower in pace and full outside off, 121.8 kph, Kumar throws his bat at it and gets it away off the inner portion of the bat. It rolls down to long on and they cross.
Lungi Ngidi to bowl his last over.
Shardul Thakur to Carlos Brathwaite. Too full and outside off, Carlos goes hard at it and smashes it over covers. It falls safely in the deep and they take the second run as Harbhajan fires in a flat throw to the keeper. Dhoni again tries to deflect it onto the stumps but misses. Anyway, the West Indian would have been home.
Shardul Thakur to Carlos Brathwaite. Wide! This one is very wide outside off, on a fuller length, Brathwaite lets it go.
Shardul Thakur to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. A mistimed shot! Shortish and outside off, Kumar goes hard at it but gets it away from the top half of his bat. It flies but goes safely to long off. A single taken.
Shardul Thakur to Carlos Brathwaite. Once again keeps it very full and outside off, it's driven with top power to long off for a single.
Shardul Thakur to Carlos Brathwaite. Smart bowling. Stays away from the hitting region of Brathwaite. Goes full and wide outside off, Carlos tries to be cheeky with a paddle scoop probably but fails to make any connection.
Shardul Thakur to Carlos Brathwaite. SIX! Another one which has travelled miles in the stand. The West Indian is opening his arms now. Thakur goes short around off and Brathwaite picks up the length quite early. Packs a punch and nails his pull over mid-wicket for a maximum. Pressure on the bowler for sure. Momentum shift?
Shardul Thakur to Carlos Brathwaite. SIX! First of the innings. A length delivery on middle and leg, right in the arc for the West Indian, Carlos swings his big bat and muscles it over mid-wicket for a biggie. That's thumped!
Dwayne Bravo to Carlos Brathwaite. Another nicely executed yorker, around off, Carlos digs it out on the leg side and crosses.
Dwayne Bravo to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Short in length this time, around off, Kumar gets on top of the bounce and pulls it to deep mid-wicket. Jadeja moves across swiftly to his left, picks up the ball and immediately releases it towards the bowler's end. No chance for the second run. Brilliant stuff. These are the little things you do on the field to keep the entire team motivated.
Dwayne Bravo to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. A lovely slower ball wide outside off, Bhuvneshwar throws his heart and soul on it but gets beaten by the slowness of the ball.
Dwayne Bravo to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. A touch short and on off, defended off the back foot.
Dwayne Bravo to Carlos Brathwaite. Good stop at point! Shortish and outside off, Brathwaite cracks it square of the wicket on the off side, his attempt was to go wide of the fielder but Harbhajan stationed there does well to stop the racing ball. Cannot prevent the single.
Dwayne Bravo to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Slower one, on middle and leg, Bhuvneshwar eases it behind square leg and picks up a single.
Dwayne Bravo to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Another wide, however, the bowler was interested in appealing for a caught behind. A touch short and shaping down the leg side, Kumar tries to flick but misses. Dhoni collects but no real appeal from his side. The replays detect the involvement of some part of the batsman's trouser.
Dwayne Bravo to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Wide! This one is full and angled down the leg side, the batsman tries to flick but misses.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is in next. Meanwhile, Lungi Ngidi is back into the attack as well.
Dwayne Bravo to Yusuf Pathan. OUT! Goodness me, that's a bullet which Bravo has caught. Unreal stuff from the West Indian. He pitches this one up and outside off, Yusuf goes hard at it and smacks it right back. It's uppish and Bravo shows excellent reflexes to grab it by catching the low chance stupendously well. Tumbles in the process but immediately gets up and starts to dance in the same rhythm. He must have hands of steel, showing no effects of taking a ball travelling at the speed of light. Yusuf was looking good but now has to walk back. Hyderabad lose their sixth wicket. Can they play out their whole quota?
Dwayne Bravo to Yusuf Pathan. FOUR! Brutal! That's Pathan power for you! Fetches a short delivery from outside off and whacks it through the line. Sweeper cover rushes across to his right but has no chance.
Dwayne Bravo to Carlos Brathwaite. The batsman has pushed it to the cover region. One run added to the total.

Dwayne Bravo to Carlos Brathwaite. Slower one down the leg side, Carlos tries to flick but misses. Goes off his pads to short fine leg, no run taken although the West Indian was interested initially.
Dwayne Bravo is back on.
Ravindra Jadeja to Yusuf Pathan. FOUR! Aahhh... a boundary off the last ball spoils his bowling figures just a little bit. Still 4-0-13-1 is a mighty big effort from Sir. Quicker one outside off, just a little bit of space there as Pathan gets back and guides it past backward point for a boundary.
Ravindra Jadeja to Yusuf Pathan. A front foot drive by Pathan but Raina is quick to move across to his right from mid off to stop the ball.
Ravindra Jadeja to Yusuf Pathan. Skidding down leg, Pathan fails to work it off his pads. Beaten for pace.
Ravindra Jadeja to Yusuf Pathan. Continues to fire bullets, keeping it in line of the stumps, not allowing any room. Pathan still manages to get his drive away although it's straight to covers.
Ravindra Jadeja to Carlos Brathwaite. That's 102 kph on the speedgun. On middle and Carlos works it through mid-wicket for one.
Ravindra Jadeja to Carlos Brathwaite. Gets down on one knee with the sweep shot but finds the short fine leg fielder.
Shardul Thakur to Yusuf Pathan. FOUR! First boundary after the Powerplay! Have to say, against the run of play. It's full and on middle, at 139 kph, Pathan clips it off his pads and it speeds through mid-wicket. Ngidi in the deep rushes across to his left but fails to stop the ball from crossing the rope.
Shardul Thakur to Yusuf Pathan. Bangs it in short, a bouncer at 136.7 kph, Pathan lets it be.

Shardul Thakur returns.
Ravindra Jadeja to Carlos Brathwaite. Jadeja continues to fire it in, on middle at 100.8 kph, Brathwaite pushes it back off the leading half of the blade.
Ravindra Jadeja to Carlos Brathwaite. Direct hit would have been curtains for Brathwaite. A flatter delivery by Jadeja on middle, Carlos taps it down on the leg side and rushes down the track in search of his first run. MS Dhoni attacks the ball, picks it up and has a shy at his end but misses. That's the second run out chance that MS has missed today.
Ravindra Jadeja to Carlos Brathwaite. Another one fired in on middle, defended off the front foot.
Carlos Brathwaite is the new batsman. Hyderabad will hope that he does something which will be worth remembering his name.
Ravindra Jadeja to Manish Pandey. OUT! A simple caught and bowled for Jadeja. He fires this one in, around middle and leg at 99.7 kph, Pandey tries to work it on the leg side but closes the face of the bat early. It pops out off the leading edge back to the bowler who moves across to his right and takes the catch with his fingers pointing skywards. Things continue to go from bad to worse for Hyderabad. Manish Pandey's sorry season continues.
Ravindra Jadeja to Yusuf Pathan. Arm ball on middle, skidding down, Pathan helps it behind square leg for a single.

Deepak Chahar to Yusuf Pathan. Chahar is in good rhythm at the moment. Executing all his variations with aplomb. A slower delivery, on a shortish length outside off, Pathan tries powering it across the line but ends up bottom edging it back to the bowler. Lovely over.
Deepak Chahar to Yusuf Pathan. Wide! A slower bouncer this time, in the channel outside off, 114.6 kph, Pathan is deceived a bit but then leaves. Too much height on it, wide called by the umpire.
Deepak Chahar to Yusuf Pathan. Bouncer this time, Chahar varying his length quite nicely. Outside off at 135.3 kph, Pathan leaves it.
Deepak Chahar to Yusuf Pathan. Too full in length at 131.8 kph, on middle, Pathan does well to dig it out back to the bowler.
Deepak Chahar to Yusuf Pathan. Wide! Slower delivery gone all wrong. Down the leg side, a late thought probably by Pathan to play at it but he misses.
Deepak Chahar to Yusuf Pathan. Shortish on off, tapped down towards backward point.
Deepak Chahar to Manish Pandey. Another delivery which lacks pace, on middle, Pandey forces it down to long on for one.
Deepak Chahar to Manish Pandey. Shy at the non-striker's end, missed! Angles in a slower delivery on middle, on a fuller length, Pandey leans forward and across to flick it on the leg side. The short mid-wicket fielder stops it and has an immediate shy at the bowler's end. Misses and the mid off fielder does well to stop it with a dive. Good cricket all around.
Deepak Chahar is back into the attack.
Ravindra Jadeja to Yusuf Pathan. Short and outside off, cut square but straight to point.
Ravindra Jadeja to Manish Pandey. Short, flat and quick on the stumps, pulled hard aerially through square leg. One run collected as there is a fielder in the deep.

Ravindra Jadeja to Manish Pandey. Sliding in on middle and leg, worked 'round the corner for a single.
Ravindra Jadeja to Manish Pandey. Flatter ball on off, Pandey skips down the track and plays it to point off the outer half.
Strategic break. Hyderabad falling down the hill here. 4 wickets down, 2 of them soft dismissals, 1 of them being the in-form Kane Williamson. The Orange Army doesn't have many left, so this pair of Pandey and Pathan will have to carry them now.
Dwayne Bravo to Manish Pandey. Full delivery, at 131 clicks outside off, Pandey gets a little low and squeezes it out towards point for one.
Dwayne Bravo to Yusuf Pathan. Yusuf has driven it through mid off. They pick up a single.

Dwayne Bravo to Yusuf Pathan. Short ball banged in outside off, Pathan tries to play the ramp shot but fails to make connection.
Yusuf Pathan is the next batsman in.
Dwayne Bravo to Shakib Al Hasan. OUT! Another soft dismissal, almost identical to Williamson's wicket. Length delivery around leg, Shakib too attempts to pull this down to fine leg but ends up getting it off the inner part of the gloves behind to Dhoni who takes it with absolute glee diving low to his right. The umpire's finger went up almost immediately. Hyderabad falling deeper here, they need a partnership. Also, with this wicket, Bravo becomes the highest-wicket taker for Chennai across all seasons with 91 wickets, going past Ravichandran Ashwin who had 90.
Dwayne Bravo to Shakib Al Hasan. The batsman works it down the leg side. Two runs added to the total.
Dwayne Bravo to Manish Pandey. On the fuller side of things, flicked down to fine leg for a single. There was a misfield from the fielder, which allowed the batsmen to easily take it.
Dwayne Bravo to Manish Pandey. Driven straight to the mid off fielder. Dot ball.
Dwayne Bravo comes on to have a go with the ball.
Deepak Chahar to Manish Pandey. Full outside off, pushed to mid off by Pandey for a brisk single. End of the Powerplay which belonged to Chennai. Hyderabad are 47/3.
Deepak Chahar to Shakib Al Hasan. Prior to this delivery, the ball slipped out of Chahar's hands and went way over Shakib's head. But, for some reason, the umpire did not signal a no ball. It was signalled as a dead ball. Strange. On this one now, it's a back of a length delivery which is pulled away on the leg side. Single taken.
Deepak Chahar to Shakib Al Hasan. Unfortunate. Shakib dances down the track to this length ball and punches it back down the track. Hits the stumps at the other end so won't get any run. Fortunately for Pandey, Chahar didn't touch the ball at all.
Deepak Chahar to Shakib Al Hasan. FOUR! Shot! Back of a length on middle and off, Al Hasan pulls this all along the ground through backward square leg for a boundary.
Deepak Chahar to Shakib Al Hasan. Short of a good length going across, Shakib rises on his toes and cracks it, but straight to the man at cover.

Shardul Thakur to Shakib Al Hasan. FOUR! Superb way to get off the mark! Length ball outside off, Shakib stands tall and crunches it between point and cover-point for a boundary.
Shakib Al Hasan to bat next.
Shardul Thakur to Kane Williamson. OUT! That's the big one! That's the wicket which Chennai wanted. A soft dismissal in the end, to be honest. It's short and down the leg side from Thakur, Williamson looks to pull this hard across the fine leg fence but gloves it behind to Dhoni who makes no mistake in taking it. Hyderabad in some trouble now. 3 wickets down inside the Powerplay.
Shardul Thakur to Kane Williamson. Can't bowl to him there. Full on the pads, it's flicked through backward square leg for a double.
Shardul Thakur into the attack now.
Lungi Ngidi to Manish Pandey. Beaten! Back of a length in the off stump channel, Pandey looks to half-heartedly hit it on the off side but misses. Excellent over from the South African, 6 runs and a wicket off it.
Manish Pandey is the new man in.
Lungi Ngidi to Shreevats Goswami. OUT! Superb catch from Lungi Ngidi! Wonderful stuff. Hits the deck hard again, cramps Goswami for room who looks to back away and pull it across the line. Ends up getting it off the higher part of the bat back down the track where Ngidi dives forward and takes an excellent return catch. The southpaw was struggling a bit, he departs for just 12.
Lungi Ngidi to Kane Williamson. Good call from Kane. Taps this just wide of the point fielder and jogs across to the other end.
Lungi Ngidi to Shreevats Goswami. Brings his wrists into play as he works it on the leg side. Single taken.
Lungi Ngidi to Shreevats Goswami. FOUR! That went to the fence in a flash! Right off the meat. Ngidi overpitches this in line of the stumps, Goswami stays leg side and thumps it through the covers across the boundary line.
Lungi Ngidi to Shreevats Goswami. Shreevats looks to take Ngidi on. Gives the charge to this back of a length delivery and attempts to crash it through the off side, but is beaten due to the extra bounce.
Deepak Chahar to Kane Williamson. Kane stays back and offers a solid punch on the off side.
Deepak Chahar to Shreevats Goswami. Outside off on a good length, worked to third man for one run.
Deepak Chahar to Kane Williamson. Run out chance missed! Don't think Dhoni realized how much time he had. Speared full on the pads, Williamson flicks it behind square leg and the batsmen take two. Goswami, however, calls for the third and the two Hyderabad players are off. Now, this is dangerous as Harbhajan fires the throw to Dhoni, who looks to parry it back on the stumps after leaping first. Had he taken the bails off normally, Goswami would have been gone.
Deepak Chahar to Kane Williamson. FOUR! Oh, wow! All class from Kane. This is unreal. Back of a length and he has some room outside off, wastes no time in rocking back and cutting it fiercely through point for a boundary.
Deepak Chahar to Shreevats Goswami. Some width offered outside off, steered behind point for one.
Deepak Chahar to Kane Williamson. A lot of swing on offer for Deepak Chahar. Good length ball on off, going away from the batsman, it's run down to third man with an open face for a single.
Lungi Ngidi to Shreevats Goswami. Edged and FOUR! With the way he's moving the ball, maybe a second slip should have been in place. Easier said in hindsight I suppose. Length delivery moving away, around off, Goswami plays away from his body and gets a thick edge past the slip fielder for a boundary.
Lungi Ngidi to Shreevats Goswami. Hits the deck hard as he holds the length back a bit this time, on leg, Goswami backs away, gets cramped for room as he chops it down on the off side. No run taken.
Lungi Ngidi to Kane Williamson. Pushes this full delivery just wide of mid off and gets to the other end quickly.
Lungi Ngidi to Kane Williamson. Full in length outside the line of off stump, driven off the inner half to mid on.
Lungi Ngidi to Kane Williamson. Cut in half! Ripper from Lungi. Length delivery around off, shapes back in and Williamson can't do anything about that. He'll feel lucky it just goes past the inside edge and into Dhoni's gloves. The Chennai skipper makes a muted appeal, but nothing from the umpire.
Lungi Ngidi to Shreevats Goswami. Angles across a length delivery around off, Goswami gets off the mark with a punch behind the diving point fielder. Single taken.
Lungi Ngidi to bowl from the other end.
Deepak Chahar to Kane Williamson. FOUR! Third on the trot! 12 off the over and a wicket to go along with it. All happening here at the very beginning. Sprayed on the pads again, Kane Williamson flicks it fine down the leg side, comfortably sending it across the boundary line.
Deepak Chahar to Kane Williamson. FOUR! Two in two for the Hyderabad skipper! Chahar looks for the swing but there isn't any, fires it on the pads and Williamson flicks it aerially through backward square leg for another boundary.
Deepak Chahar to Kane Williamson. FOUR! And there it is! Shot from a man oozing with confidence. Full and wide outside off, Williamson lunges forward and drives it sweetly through the gap in the covers for a boundary.
Deepak Chahar to Kane Williamson. On the fuller side again, outside off, defended again with soft hands on the off side.
Deepak Chahar to Kane Williamson. Nice shape on this again. Fuller in length around off and it moves away, Williamson plants his front foot forward and blocks it out.
Skipper Kane Williamson walks in next. He's going to have to play a big one tonight with Shikhar Dhawan gone so early.
Deepak Chahar to Shikhar Dhawan. OUT! BOWLED 'EM! Shikhar Dhawan is gone first ball! Literally, the absolute perfect start for Chennai. Deepak Chahar comes steaming in and lands it on a length around off, it shapes back in a touch and Dhawan is undone by that. Looks to play at it but gets an inside edge back on which rattles the stumps. The Yellow Army rejoices.
Time to set the ball rolling. The Chennai players walk through the red carpet and are in a customary huddle. Now, out come the two openers of Hyderabad - Shikhar Dhawan and Shreevats Goswami. This pair had an excellent last game and would be aiming to provide a similar start. Deepak Chahar will take the new ball first up. A slip in place for him. Let's go...
Kane Williamson wanted to bowl as well for the same reasons as mentioned by Dhoni. Feels that they have adapted to different conditions nicely and considers Wankhede to be having a very good surface. Informs that they are playing the same XI.
MS Dhoni says that they will bowl. Feels it's a 7 o' clock start which means if there is dew, it will be more in the second half. Also adds that they have chased well this season. (On them being consistent to get to the playoffs) MS Dhoni credits his team for performing so well and considers himself lucky to get good performing players at the beginning. About his team, MS replies that Shane Watson comes in for Sam Billings.
Toss - Kane Williamson flips the coin, Heads is called by MS Dhoni, it's come down as Heads. CHENNAI WILL FIELD!
Pitch Report - Sunil Gavaskar out in the middle says there is some wear and tear around the good length area. Adds the spinners who can make the ball come back in, like Rashid Khan for example, will do well. States the surface is on the slower side. Reckons the team that wins the toss will field first, as they would surely like to assess the conditions first and then have a go.
Hello and welcome for Qualifier 1. Hyderabad and Chennai, who finished the points table in the group stage 1st and 2nd respectively, remained separated only because of the NRR. It's the big one, a glorious night for cricket at the Wankhede Stadium. Dhoni's side may have a bit of momentum as they won their last game, while the Orange Army suffered three back-to-back losses. Though, in saying that, past form and occurrences don't matter at the end of the day. It's a new day with a fresh challenge, all to play for. The winner tonight will secure a place in the final, while the loser, will still have a chance to get there. Should be a good one between two class teams. The pitch report and the toss will be coming up shortly...
What a game, ladies and gents! Chennai make an inspirational comeback from the jaws of defeat and plunge themselves into their 7th Indian T20 League final. Hyderabad narrowly missed out tonight, but they aren't out of just yet. They still have an opportunity to make it to the final, in Qualifier 2, but will have to wait to see who emerges victorious in the Eliminator. Kolkata and Rajasthan will face off in it on 23rd May, at 1900 local (1330 GMT). You don't want to miss it. See you folks then!
Faf du Plessis gets the Man of the Match award! Says that it's nice to make a contribution tonight. Adds that last night he was reflecting on the game that he played in Mumbai and took confidence from that. Says that when you are out there batting, you focus on batting till the end and hope something special happens. Mentions about Shardul Thakur who came in and hit a few boundaries. Feels the wicket was not easy to bat on and credits Hyderabad for bowling really well. Has a word of praise for Rashid Khan and admits that he was very tough to play as he bowls very quickly. Is happy to cross the line.
MS Dhoni is smiling and says that when you are on top it gives you the liberty to lose and even if they would have lost, they would have got the second chance. Adds that they bowled really well and there was something in it for the bowlers which even Bhuvneshwar got and was nicely backed by Rashid Khan. Admits that they kept losing wickets and that's why they had to push themselves towards the end. Feels it all happens in the knockout stages and wants his team to learn from this experience and keep on improving constantly. On death bowling, Dhoni replies he has the best combination and these are the resources he has. Agrees that they will get hit at some point of time, it may hurt but these are the bowlers who need to step up one final time. (On Faf du Plessis' knock) Dhoni replies that's where the experience counts. Quotes 'you need to train the mind more than the body' and you can come to use when handed the opportunity. Adds that Faf batted really well and hopes that he continues in the final also. Proudly says that they are a good team and it reflects the dressing room atmosphere that they create and thanks the support staff also.
Kane Williamson is disappointed and says that the trip to Kolkata will be interesting. Adds that they were short by a few runs. Praises his bowlers and feels that the game swung in their way but then is quick to admit that they weren't at their best towards the end. Feels that most times they would have defended that total but credits the lower order of Chennai. Hopes that they will learn from this game and move to the next match. Lauds the knock of Faf du Plessis and reckons it's going to be hard work for them in Kolkata.
Hyderabad were maybe 15-20 runs short. Though, despite that, they were exceptional with the ball tonight. Started off well, restricted Chennai to 62/6 and were right on top, but such is this format where the margin for error is less. The Brathwaite over stole the momentum from them. Siddarth Kaul too got taken for runs in the next over, thereby seeing them miss out. Rashid Khan in particular was the standout performer, conceding just 11 runs and picking up 2 wickets in his spell. Earlier in the evening, Brathwaite powered his team close to 140, but a clinical performance for the most part from the Chennai bowlers did just enough to help their batters gun the target down.
What a game. Chennai have defeated Hyderabad for the third time this season to storm into the finals. Ambati Rayudu did one over them twice, and now, it's Faf du Plessis who becomes the star of the show. Talk about the perfect timing to find some form. Chennai lost their way early chasing 140, and were staring down the barrel of a defeat. Things almost slipped out of their hands till that Carlos Brathwaite over in the 18th, where 23 runs were scored from it by Faf. That completely changed the tide and along with Shardul Thakur in the end, the Protea got his side over the line with a well-deserved fifty.
