Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings Highlights And Cricket Score 1st Match - T20 Commentary
Chennai wouldn't be too disappointed with the way they pulled things back. The death specialist Dwayne Bravo was on song and made the run-scoring a difficult task. He was taken for 14 in his opening over but came back well to give away just 11 in the next three overs. Rest all were good but Mark Wood had a night to forget. Right then, there is something in the pitch for the bowlers and it would be interesting to see if the hosts can do what their counterparts did in the first innings. Which team will open its account tonight? Join us in a bit for the run chase to find out...
MS Dhoni then took a bold move to bring Watson back and that provided them the breakthrough in the name of Yadav. Tahir then removed the other set batsman Kishan in quick succession to help Chennai gain the upper hand. However, the Pandya brothers didn't let that hamper the momentum as they kept scoring freely. It was Krunal Pandya who stole the show with his 41 off 22 balls.
A good recovery from Mumbai after an early stutter. They lost both their openers inside the Powerplay as Watson and Chahar hit the right chords at the start. It was Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan who brought things back on track. The duo just unleashed and swatted the bowlers all around the park as they stitched a 78-run stand to leave the visitors thinking.
Dwayne Bravo to Hardik Pandya. Just 5 from the over, simply outstanding from DJ Bravo. What has happened to Hardik Pandya? He seems to be struggling as he is down in agony at the non-striker's end. This isn't good for his side. He is carried off the field. Ball - Fuller ball on the stumps, dragged off the inner half through mid-wicket. He looks for the second one but almost dashes into Bravo at the other end. The innings end with a single and Mumbai finish with 165/4!

Fuller ball, nipping in appreciably and beating the attempted flick shot of Lewis who gets rapped on the pads and nearly falls over. In fact, even the bowler is down in his followthrough. A huge appeal from him and he gets the nod from the umpire. Lewis takes the review, the first of the season but it doesn't favor him although Mumbai don't lose a review. There is no bat involved and Hawk Eye shows it's pitching in line and would have clipped the leg stump by just. Umpire's call stays and it's a nought on debut for Lewis.
A huge shout and the finger has gone up for an LBW. It's Evin Lewis the man in question. He takes the review straightaway. Is it going down leg?

After all the fuss around, it's time for the real action to unfold. It's a packed house here at the Wankhede and the crowd is on top of its voice greeting the players as they make their way out to the middle. Mumbai openers are, the big West Indian - Evin Lewis and their skipper Rohit Sharma. This could be a treat to watch it they get going. The latter will be on strike. It will be Deepak Chahar to have a go with the white object first. A slip in place. Lets' roll...
Rohit Sharma, Mumbai captain says even they wanted to bowl first but isn't disappointed to have a go with the bat. Adds they have played before and have a hang of the conditions on how to bowl in the second half. Reckons it's a fresh wicket and there should be plenty of runs on offer. States it's a fresh tournament for both the sides and whatever they have done in the past won't count as they will have to start afresh. Informs they have got 4 bowlers, 2 genuine all-arounders in the Pandya brothers, McClenaghan, Bumrah and Rahman are their pace options and Mayank Markande, a new guy he has heard a lot about could spring in some surprise for everyone tonight.
MS Dhoni, Chennai captain says there is a bit of dew which will come into the picture in the second half and hence the decision. Reckons he's happy to be back in the yellow jersey and has his emotions under control. States the preparations have been good and hopes for a good show. Wood, Tahir, Watson and Bravo are the four overseas players for them, he informs.
TOSS - Huge roar from the crowd as both the skippers - Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni walk out for the toss. Up goes the coin and it comes down in the favor of the visitors. Chennai will bowl!
Pitch Report - Sunil Gavaskar says there is an even grass covering which will help the seamers move the ball around by pitching it up. He also adds that the ball will come onto the bat nicely and the batters should have a good time. Ends by saying there are loads of runs on offer and he expects a run-feast at the Wankhede tonight.
Talking about the teams now. Both these sides are packed with heavy players with too much of experience. Both of them have provided sheer entertainment in the past and we have witnessed some nail-biting thrillers when these two lock horns. The last time these two faced each other was in the 2015 final where the men from Mumbai were crowned champions. Let's hope that they fight neck and neck tonight and get things rolling with a bang. Stay tuned as the all-important toss is coming up in a bit.
It's that time of the year again, people! The Indian T20 League is back to beat the Indian summer. The season opener will kickoff at one of the most historic venues - The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The defending champs will be up against the men from Chennai who are making a comeback after a 2-year hiatus. MS Dhoni will be back in that yellow jersey but more importantly he'll be leading the side this season, something the fans are anxiously waiting for.
That's it then! An amazing season-opener and this has surely given a perfect start to the tournament. Tomorrow is Super Sunday and we've the first double-header for you. The first game will see Punjab taking on Delhi in Mohali at 1600 IST and then Kolkata will lock horns with Bangalore at 2000 IST. Join us for all the action from those games, till then cheers!
Man of the Match, Dwayne Bravo, thanks God for his knock. He says it was a good team effort and dedicates the victory to all the Chennai fans. He continues saying that he batted well and is happy about it. He adds further that he came in early and got set which helped him construct well. States that he has been working on his batting a lot in the nets. Informs that at Wankhede if you bat deep, there are high chances of you winning the game. Ends by saying that he backed himself towards the end and it all went good.
MS Dhoni, the winning skipper is down with Sanjay Manjrekar for a chat. On being asked about the crowd, he says that the fans have missed the Mumbai-Chennai contest and hence the turnout has been great. He reckons their aim was to not lose the game by a big margin as it affects the run rate towards the end. Credits Bravo for his innings and for the responsibility he shouldered. Adds by saying that it was not a good batting display as a team and would look to rectify in the upcoming games. Ends by saying that they will look to keep things simple, mix-up the playing XI according to the conditions and keep an eye on the players who are injury prone.
Michael Clarke now has a small talk with the injured Kedar Jadhav. The batter says that he is psychologically happy but physically hurt. He then goes on to say that he doesn't know if he'll be fit for the next couple of games or not. He too gives credit to Bravo as he brought them close to the total. States that he had told his skipper he will bat all the balls. On the six in the last over, he comments that he waited for one bad ball and then played his shot. Is happy to come out on top in the end.
Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai skipper states that he is not feeling good and gives credit to Bravo for the way he played. He adds that they have to take positives from this game and move forward. He continues saying that it got difficult towards the end because of the dew which made it tough for the bowlers to grip the ball. He reckons that they were 10-15 runs short with the bat and they didn't execute their plans well to win the game. Admits that they were in the game till the 17th over but it drifted away from them in the last three. Smirks and says it's not the end of the world and they will come out good in the next game.
So, Mumbai begin their season with a loss yet again. Something they are making a habit of. Today they batted well and then bowled really well to have Chennai on the mat. Hardik Pandya dented the top order and then the young sensation - Mayank Markande turned things around by running through the middle order. They were on top for almost the whole of the game before a certain Dwayne Bravo struck them and then an injured Kedar Jadhav made sure that Chennai snatch a win from the jaws of defeat. Michael Clarke is there with Rohit Sharma for a chat...
It was all going Mumbai's way before Bravo unleashed. He first took on the big Kiwi, Mitchell McClenaghan and then smashed one of the best bowlers in this format - Jasprit Bumrah in the second last over for 20 runs to evoke life back in this contest. However, he fell on the last ball of the penultimate over, leaving his side needing 7 off the final 6 balls. There was another twist in the tale as Kedar Jadhav, who retired hurt due to a hamstring issue, walked out with tons of pressure on his shoulders. He played out the first three balls for a dot and then paddled one over fine leg to make sure his side can't lose from there.
