Bangalore further lost their way after Patel's departure as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Chennai were hoping to finish things quickly at that time but Southee had other ideas. Great bowling performance by Chennai, although Tim Southee stole the show a little bit towards the end with his cameo. It was a messy inning from Bangalore as Parthiv Patel and Tim Southee were the only two batsmen who managed to get past the double-digit scores. Brendon McCullum, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers failed to get going and were dismissed inside the first ten overs. With the best three back in the hut, the pressure was on Patel to anchor the innings, which he somewhat succeeded in.
