Kings XI Punjab vs Chennai Super Kings Highlights And Cricket Score 56th Match - T20 Commentary
Bravo feels that Chennai will be happy chasing 154. Praises his bowling unit for doing well tonight. Stresses that the bowlers need to pitch the ball in the right areas, even if the conditions favoured swing bowling. Hence feels that the new-ball bowlers got it right this evening. On being asked about this being their perfect death-over bowling, Bravo reckons there is room for improvement but tonight was better than the previous game. Also says that one will have different days and one needs to be mentally strong.
A cameo however in the end by Karun Nair evoked belief in the Punjab camp. But a flurry of wickets towards the end sees Chennai head into the break as the happier side. Lungi Ngidi was the star of the show, finishing with 4 scalps. The home side will fancy its batsmen to chase this down but the visitors will give their all as it is a do-or-die game for them. The wicket is providing something for the new-ball bowlers and Ashwin will hope to replicate what the Chennai bowlers did.
Excellent bowling display by Chennai and they have restricted Punjab to a total which is way below par. Electing to field first, the Chennai bowlers came out all guns blazing. They had Punjab right on the mat after the Powerplay, getting rid of the top three with not much on the board. Then, Manoj Tiwary and David Miller did try and steady the ship with a 50-run stand but the two departed in quick succession. At that time Punjab looked like they would be bundled out for a paltry total.
Shardul Thakur to Ankit Rajpoot. OUT! Ankit holes out and that is the end of the Punjab innings! Rajpoot dances down the track and he gets a short ball. He flat bats it towards Faf du Plessis at long on who seems to have taken it just inside the ropes. The umpires though still go upstairs to check but replays confirm that it is a clean catch. PUNJAB END WITH 153 ON THE BOARD!
Shardul Thakur to Mohit Sharma. This is nicely driven but only for a run. Sharma strokes it through covers for a run.
Shardul Thakur to Ankit Rajpoot. Full outside off, Rajpoot slices it over point but just for a run.
Shardul Thakur to bowl the last over.
Shardul Thakur to Ankit Rajpoot. Outside off, Rajpoot swings but misses. A dot to begin the last over.
Dwayne Bravo to Ankit Rajpoot. Slower ball on the stumps, Rajpoot works it towards mid-wicket for a run. So 17 from the over but Bravo gets the priced scalp of Nair.
Ankit Rajpoot is the last man in.
Dwayne Bravo to Karun Nair. OUT! Nair's brilliant cameo comes to an end. The change of angle for Bravo works. He comes around the wicket and bowls a low full toss which are not always easy to hit. Nair tries to clear mid off but it goes off the bottom half towards that fielder. Chahar there accepts a dolly. Bravo gives the batsmen a send-off as he has the last laugh. A dejected Nair walks back.
Dwayne Bravo to Karun Nair. SIX! Two in a row and 16 from the last three balls. This time he gives the charge, gets a short ball and he pulls it over cow corner for a biggie.
Dwayne Bravo to Karun Nair. SIX! We always talk about the bowler making great use of the crease. Here we can see Nair making brilliant use of it. Walks right across the stumps and gets a slower ball outside off. Nair picks his spot to perfection as he scoops it over the fine leg fence for a biggie.
Dwayne Bravo to Karun Nair. FOUR! Innovation and it comes off really well! He gets a fast ball the stumps. He positions himself early for a reverse sweep. Connects really well and it goes over the point fielder for a boundary.
Dwayne Bravo to bowl the penultimate over.
Dwayne Bravo to Karun Nair. Slower ball on off, Nair guides it to point.
Lungi Ngidi to Karun Nair. A single to end as Nair drives it through mid on for a run. So no fifer for Ngidi but he ends with exceptional figures which reads 4-1-10-4.
Lungi Ngidi to Mohit Sharma. One ball left as he goes fuller this time. Sharma eases it through covers for a run.
Lungi Ngidi to Mohit Sharma. He has two left now as Sharma defends this length ball towards point.
Mohit Sharma walks out to the middle.
Lungi Ngidi to Andrew Tye. OUT! Lungi gets another and one more Punjab batsman is out for a duck! The bounce does Tye in. It is a length ball on off, Tye tries to clear mid off but the ball hits the higher portion of the bat. It lobs towards mid off where Raina takes it running to his right. Ngidi gets his fourth. He has three balls left, can he take a fifer?
Lungi Ngidi to Andrew Tye. Goes for a yorker on middle, Tye jams it out.
Andrew Tye is the new man in.
Lungi Ngidi to Ravichandran Ashwin. OUT! Snicko shows a spike. Brilliant review! Ashwin goes for a duck. This is on a length around off, Ashwin tries to guide it down to third man. He seems to have missed it as it goes into the mitts of the keeper. Dhoni takes it and Ngidi appeals. The umpire stays put but Lungi is very confident and he asks Dhoni to take it upstairs. MS signals the 'T'. They go upstairs and replays show there is an edge. Ashwin is given his marching orders.
A review! There is an appeal for a caught behind which is not given by the umpire. Ashwin is the man in question and Dhoni takes it upstairs. He is not that sure though.
Lungi Ngidi to Ravichandran Ashwin. WIDE! Down the leg side and the umpire calls it a wide.
Lungi Ngidi to bowl the 18th over.
Shardul Thakur to Karun Nair. FOUR! Streaky! But a great way to end the over for Punjab! This is full and outside off, Nair tries to go inside out over covers but he gets an outside edge which just about evades Dhoni and into the third man fence. So a wicket does come in the over but it goes for 18.
Shardul Thakur to Karun Nair. WIDE! The ball is way outside the off stump, easy leave for the batsman. The umpire signals a wide.
Shardul Thakur to Karun Nair. SIX! The last boundary was through the off side and this maximum is on the leg side. He expected the bowler to bowl it short and he gets exactly that. Nair is in position early and he helps it on its way over the fine leg fence. 10 from the last two balls.
Shardul Thakur to Karun Nair. FOUR! What a shot. On a length outside off, Nair lofts this over cover for a boundary!
Ravichandran Ashwin is the next man in.
Shardul Thakur to Axar Patel. OUT! In the air... that might just fall short but NO. Sam Billings has pulled of a ripper. Thakur gets the wicket but a lot of credit has to be given to Billings. It is short and on middle, Axar goes for the pull but does not get it off the middle. It goes uppishly towards Billings at deep mid-wicket. He runs in, dives forward and takes it inches above the ground. He is quick on his feet and throws it up in joy. Another one bites the dust and Thakur gets his first.
Shardul Thakur to Axar Patel. Misfield! Chennai have been a little off on the field today. This is slapped towards mid off. Deepak Chahar there lets it through his hands and the batsmen take an extra run.
Shardul Thakur to Karun Nair. Follows the batsman and bowls it on the pads. Nair swings but misses to get hit on it. The ball rolls towards square leg and the batsmen run a leg bye.
Shardul Thakur is back on.
Second strategic break has been signaled!
Ravindra Jadeja to Karun Nair. This is eased down to long off for a run. Again 5 singles and a maximum in this over too. 11 from this one and 22 from the last two. They need to keep going like this.
Ravindra Jadeja to Axar Patel. Driven towards the mid off region. One run added to the total.
Ravindra Jadeja to Axar Patel. SIX! And the risk has paid off! Axar Patel makes room this time. Interestingly he tries to go against the spin but he connects well and it sails over the long off fence.
Ravindra Jadeja to Karun Nair. Makes room but Jadeja does well to follow him. All Nair can do is stroke it through the off side for a run. Just three from the first three balls, something has to give here.
Ravindra Jadeja to Axar Patel. Shorter and on middle, Axar pulls it to the man at mid-wicket for a run.
Ravindra Jadeja to Karun Nair. Fires it on middle, Nair pushes it down to long on for a run.
Dwayne Bravo to Karun Nair. Yes, as Nair pushes it down to long on and gets to the other end.
Dwayne Bravo to Axar Patel. Another single as it is flicked through mid-wicket for a run! He has done well after going for a biggie from the first ball. Can he now finish the over well?
Dwayne Bravo to Karun Nair. Off pace delivery on off, Nair opens the face of the bat and guides it down to third man for a run.
Dwayne Bravo to Axar Patel. Slower ball on the pads, Axar Patel works it to deep square leg. The fielder there fumbles but does not concede an extra run.
Dwayne Bravo to Karun Nair. Goes short this time on off, Nair guides it down to third man for a run.
Dwayne Bravo to Karun Nair. SIX! Dealing in maximums is Nair. He gives himself a little room towards the leg side. Gets a full ball on off, pace on the delivery and Nair makes full use of it. He lofts it over the cover boundary for a biggie. Excellent start to the over, can they make it big now?
Ravindra Jadeja to Axar Patel. The batsman rocks onto the back foot and punches the ball. So a good over for Punjab, 9 from it. They need many more overs like this.
Ravindra Jadeja to Karun Nair. Tucks it around with the angle and gets to the other end.
Ravindra Jadeja to Axar Patel. Works it to short fine leg for a quick run.
Ravindra Jadeja to Karun Nair. Flatter on off, Nair eases it down to mid off and gets to the other end. Good batting by him, a maximum followed by a single.
Ravindra Jadeja to Karun Nair. SIX! Swept and swept really well! Nair goes down on one knee to the ball on leg stump. He gets it off the middle and it just clears the man at deep backward square leg for a biggie.
Ravindra Jadeja to Karun Nair. Flatter on off, Nair cuts it to point.
Dwayne Bravo to Axar Patel. The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground. End of another successful over.
Dwayne Bravo to Axar Patel. A stifled appeal by the bowler! This is the slower ball on off, Axar tries to work it across the line but is beaten on the inside edge. Dhoni dives forward to take it. Bravo appeals but the umpire shakes his head.
Dwayne Bravo to Karun Nair. Eases it down to mid on for a run.
Dwayne Bravo to Karun Nair. The batsman works it down the leg side.
Dwayne Bravo to Axar Patel. Fuller on off, it is driven down to long off for a run.
Axar Patel walks out to the middle.
Dwayne Bravo to David Miller. OUT! BOWLED 'EM! Once again the bowling change does the trick. What a delivery. A corker of a yorker by Bravo. He goes wide of the crease and spears in a very full ball on middle. Miller clears his front leg, maybe expecting a slower ball. He however, does not get one and is late to get his bat down in time. It sneaks through and shatters the stumps behind. Another set batsman makes his way back to the pavilion and Punjab now have half the side back in the hut.
Dwayne Bravo is back on.
Ravindra Jadeja to David Miller. This is worked through mid-wicket. The batsmen complete one, seeing the fielder get to the ball quickly, Miller sets off for another. He though is sent back and he does well to make it back in time.
Ravindra Jadeja to Karun Nair. Flatter on off, it is played towards point for a run.
Ravindra Jadeja to Karun Nair. Works it to the man at mid-wicket.
Ravindra Jadeja to David Miller. This is fired on the pads. Miller tries to flick but misses to get hit on it. The ball rolls towards square leg and the batsmen take a leg bye.
Ravindra Jadeja to Karun Nair. Eases it down to long on for a run.
Karun Nair now comes in to bat.
Ravindra Jadeja to Manoj Tiwary. OUT! Maybe the quietest of appeals I have seen but Dhoni was very confident and the umpire agrees with him. Jadeja strikes on his very first ball. This is flatter and outside off, it turns away a little. Manoj goes for the slog sweep but it seems to have taken some part of the bat and goes towards Dhoni who takes it on the second attempt. There is a muted appeal and after a thought the umpire raises his finger. Timely wicket for Chennai as this partnership was starting to look dangerous. Tiwary walks back after getting a start. Also replays later on show, it had taken the bottom edge off the bat.
Ravindra Jadeja is into the attack.
Shardul Thakur to David Miller. Miller makes room, he seems to have gone too far outside off and Thakur bowls it full and wide outside off. Miller tries to reach out to it but misses.
Shardul Thakur to David Miller. In the air... but lands in no man's land! Short and on middle, Miller goes for the pull but once again he is done in by the pace. It takes the top edge and lands in the fine leg area. There is no fielder there and the batsmen take two.
Shardul Thakur to Manoj Tiwary. Manoj works it with the angle towards fine leg for a run.
Shardul Thakur to Manoj Tiwary. Good length on off, Tiwary blocks it.
Shardul Thakur to David Miller. Short ball and mistimed! This one skids off the surface and Miller is beaten for pace as he goes for the pull. It goes off the top edge towards long on for a run.
Shardul Thakur to Manoj Tiwary. Back of a length on off, it is guided to point for a run.
Dwayne Bravo to Manoj Tiwary. Length outside off, Tiwary guides it down to third man and gets to the other end.
Dwayne Bravo to Manoj Tiwary. FOUR! Fortune favors the brave and that is exactly the case here for Tiwary. Bravo bowls a bumper on middle, Tiwary goes for the pull but is done in by the bounce. It takes the top edge and goes over the keeper for a boundary.
Dwayne Bravo to David Miller. The batsman works it down the leg side. They pick up a single. This also brings the 50-run stand up. A vital one as the two joined forces when Punjab were in trouble. Also it has come at a good pace but they need to carry on.
Dwayne Bravo to Manoj Tiwary. Down the leg side, Manoj tries to flick but misses to get hit on the pads. The ball goes towards Dhoni as he dives to his left and stops it. Bravo is appealing but he is the only one doing so. Miller sets off for a run and Tiwary responds late but they complete it in the end. The umpire signals it as a leg bye.
Dwayne Bravo to David Miller. Soft leading edge! Fuller and on off, Miller tries to work it across but closes the bat face a touch early. It goes off the leading edge and down to long off for a run.
Dwayne Bravo to David Miller. Shorter in length and it is outside off. Miller guides it through backward point and down towards third man for a couple.
Dwayne Bravo is on.
Strategic break has been signaled!
Shardul Thakur to David Miller. Works this through the mid-wicket region and ends the over with a run.
Shardul Thakur to Manoj Tiwary. Once again sloppiness in the field spoils the over! This is fuller on off, Tiwary drives it towards mid off. They go for a run. The fielder has a shy at the bowler's end but misses. The batsmen go for an overthrow. Bravo from the leg side fires it towards the keeper who fails to collect and they take another overthrow. Three runs in total. Poor from Chennai but good running by the two batsmen out there. They are looking out for every opportunity of a run and also taking it.
Shardul Thakur to Manoj Tiwary. Another dot! This has been a good comeback after going for a boundary. This is short and the body of the batsman. He is surprised by it as he hops and keeps it out.
Shardul Thakur to Manoj Tiwary. WIDE! Down the leg side and the umpire calls it a wide.
Shardul Thakur to Manoj Tiwary. Chance of a run out! Length on off, Tiwary taps it to point. Miller is off for a run but is sent back. The fielder has a shy but misses. Had he hit, it would have been close.
Shardul Thakur to Manoj Tiwary. FOUR! Boundaries flowing now! Not in convincing manner but Manoj will take it. Full and on the pads. Tiwary goes for the flick but it goes off the inner half through backward square leg for a boundary.
Shardul Thakur to Manoj Tiwary. Good length on off, Tiwary defends it onto the off side.
Shardul Thakur is on now.
Harbhajan Singh to Manoj Tiwary. Almost drags it on! Goes for a sweep but gets an inside edge which goes close past the off pole and down to short fine leg for a run. So runs have started to come now. 23 from the last 2.
Harbhajan Singh to David Miller. Played to the mid-wicket region by the batsman. They pick up a single.
Harbhajan Singh to Manoj Tiwary. This is eased down to long on for a run.
Harbhajan Singh to Manoj Tiwary. SIX! They have now decided to put the foot on the accelerator. Manoj dances down the track and gets to the pitch of the ball. He lofts it towards long on. Jadeja there jumps with a hand stretched out. It brushes his fingers and goes over the ropes. This is turning out to be another good over.
Harbhajan Singh to Manoj Tiwary. This is flatter and on the stumps. Tiwary blocks it out.
Harbhajan Singh to Manoj Tiwary. FOUR! Poor ball first up and he has been punished! Short and outside off, Tiwary has all the time in the world to cut it through point for a boundary. 10 from the last two balls. Punjab are getting a move on.
Ravindra Jadeja is on. That is what I thought. But Harbhajan Singh has come on instead. That is why I am not the captain.
Deepak Chahar to David Miller. SIX! Oh, yes he can! A much-needed maximum. This one is bowled wide outside off and on a fuller length. Miller gets to free his arms. He goes over mid off. He has not connected it that well but it still carries all the way. A good over for Punjab. 10 comes off it.
Deepak Chahar to David Miller. NO BALL! For the second bouncer in the over! We saw this yesterday in the game between, Kolkata and Hyderabad. Another short ball but once again it is above the batsman's head. It is second for the over and the umpire signals it as a no ball. Free Hit coming up. Punjab needed this. Can Miller make the most of it?
Deepak Chahar to David Miller. Pressure getting to Miller. He swings across the line to a ball outside off. He only connects with thin air.
Deepak Chahar to David Miller. Good change in length by the bowler as he bangs it short. It is a little too high though and the umpire signals it a wide.
Deepak Chahar to David Miller. Miller tries to create something as he shimmies down the track. Chahar sticks to bowling length on off. Miller pushes it towards mid on where the fielder makes a good stop diving to his right.
Deepak Chahar to Manoj Tiwary. Once again keeps it tight by bowling it on off and on a length. Manoj taps it towards covers for a brisk run.
Deepak Chahar to Manoj Tiwary. Attacks the stumps away, giving no room to the batsman to free his arms. Tiwary defends it onto the ground.
Deepak Chahar to David Miller. Back of a length around off, Miller pushes it to mid on for a quick run. Singles is all they have to be content with at the moment.
Lungi Ngidi to David Miller. Once again that was well ran! Good length on off, Miller tries to defend but gets an inside edge onto his pads. The ball rolls towards the off side for a run. So just two bowlers used in the Powerplay and they have done a tremendous job. Punjab are 29 for 3 after 6.
Lungi Ngidi to Manoj Tiwary. Good running! Just ahead of a length on off, Tiwary pushes it towards extra cover for a run. This is good by Manoj, he is constantly looking to rotate strike.
Lungi Ngidi to David Miller. Misfield and another run! Quite unlike Jadeja there. This is driven towards him. He takes his eyes off the ball at the very last moment and misfields to concede a run.
Lungi Ngidi to Manoj Tiwary. Uppish but away from the fielder! Wide outside off, Tiwary throws his bat at it. It goes off the outer half through backward point for a run.
Lungi Ngidi to Manoj Tiwary. Errs in line a little and bowls it on the pads, Tiwary flicks it through square leg and bags a brace.
Lungi Ngidi to Manoj Tiwary. A wild swing and a miss! Just a run from Ngidi's 13 balls. It is fuller and it swings away outside off. Tiwary tries to go downtown but misses. The ball goes agonizingly past the edge, luckily for Manoj it does not kiss it.
Deepak Chahar to Manoj Tiwary. Another single! Boundaries are hard to come by so singles are very important at the moment. Another length ball outside off, Tiwary does well to open the face of the bat and guide it down to third man for a run.
Deepak Chahar to David Miller. Changes the angle as there is no swing available now. Goes around the wicket and lands it on a length outside off. Miller guides it through third man for a run.
Deepak Chahar to David Miller. Shorter in length and on middle, Miller nudges it to the man at mid-wicket.
Deepak Chahar to David Miller. FOUR! They need a few more of these! This is full and on the pads, no swing on the ball and it ends up being a gift for Miller. He works it through square leg and the ball races away.
Deepak Chahar to David Miller. Back of a length on off, Miller defends it onto the ground.
Deepak Chahar to Manoj Tiwary. Good length on middle, the batsman taps it on the off side and gets to the other end.
David Miller walks into bat.
Lungi Ngidi to Lokesh Rahul. OUT! TIMBER! Could have been so easily been another wicket maiden for Ngidi. Nevertheless, he gets the man in-form Rahul and what a way to get him. He got the ball before this to leave him and this time bowls the booming inswinger. It comes in from outside off and it is on a fuller length. Rahul plants his front foot forward and shoulders arms to a ball which keeps coming in. It hits the top of off and the LED bails light up. Ngidi is all pumped up and Punjab are in big trouble here.
Lungi Ngidi to Lokesh Rahul. Would have been 11 dots had not it been for that sloppiness in the field by Chennai. This is once again beautifully bowled. On a length around off, it shapes away a touch. Rahul tries to keep it out but gets beaten by the away movement.
Lungi Ngidi to Manoj Tiwary. First run off Ngidi and it is courtesy of an overthrow! Once again it is on a length around middle, Manoj pushes it towards mid on and he wants a run. He comes out running but is sent back by the non-striker. The fielder is quick to the ball and has a shy at the keeper's end while Tiwary turns and tries to get back. The fielder misses his shy and the fielder backing up makes a half stop and concedes a run.
Lungi Ngidi to Manoj Tiwary. Another dot! This one is angled into the batsman, Ngidi offers no room to him. Tiwary defends it to mid-wicket.
Lungi Ngidi to Manoj Tiwary. Make that 8! Once again it is on a length and outside off, it straightens a touch after pitching. Tiwary feels for it and gets beaten.
Lungi Ngidi to Manoj Tiwary. Lands it on a length around off, Tiwary defends it onto the ground. 7 dot balls in a row for Ngidi.
Deepak Chahar to Manoj Tiwary. A full toss outside off, Tiwary pushes at it but the ball swings back in and goes off the inner half to fine leg. A single taken.
Deepak Chahar to Aaron Finch. OUT! Edged and a blinder! Chennai have taken their second wicket. On a length, outside off, coming back in, Finch pushes at it and gets a thick outside edge. The ball flies behind and Suresh Raina at second slip flies to his left to take a stinger!
Deepak Chahar to Lokesh Rahul. On middle, flicked through the leg side and the batsmen take a run.
Deepak Chahar to Aaron Finch. Down the leg side again, Aaron misses his flick once more. The ball goes off his pads towards the leg side and the batsmen take a leg bye.
Deepak Chahar to Aaron Finch. The batsman failed to make contact and was hit low on the pads.
Deepak Chahar to Aaron Finch. FOUR! Nice shot. On a length outside off, Finch punches it through the covers and gets a boundary!
Lungi Ngidi to Lokesh Rahul. The batsman has attempted to put bat on ball - but fails. MAIDEN OVER! Ngidi becomes the fourth Chennai bowler after Shardul, Chahar and Bravo to bowl a wicket maiden this season!
Lungi Ngidi to Lokesh Rahul. Defended off the back foot by the batsman.
Lungi Ngidi to Aaron Finch. Full and outside off, Finch slashes hard but misses. Dhoni fumbles and concedes a run.
Lungi Ngidi to Aaron Finch. Around off, solidly defended to the leg side.
Aaron Finch is the next man in.
Lungi Ngidi to Chris Gayle. OUT! A huge appeal and guess what Chris Gayle has started to walk! Ngidi gets the big man which means there is no Gayle storm today. Not the best of deliveries by him, it is short and down the leg side. Gayle tries to work it fine but he might have gone off his gloves to Dhoni who takes it by stretching out to his right. The players appeal but the umpire shakes his head. Hang on! Gayle starts walking and the Chennai players start celebrating. A huge blow for Punjab in a big game for them.
Lungi Ngidi to Chris Gayle. A good start by Ngidi. He gets some movement too first up. On a length and around off. It shapes away a touch. Gayle plays inside the line and lets it through to the keeper.
Lungi Ngidi to bowl from the other end.
Deepak Chahar to Lokesh Rahul. The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.
Deepak Chahar to Lokesh Rahul. WIDE. Down the leg side, flick shot missed.
Deepak Chahar to Lokesh Rahul. FOUR! Full and outside off, Rahul drives it through the covers for a boundary!
Deepak Chahar to Lokesh Rahul. Around off, watchfully defended.
Deepak Chahar to Lokesh Rahul. Around off, watchfully defended.
Deepak Chahar to Lokesh Rahul. Down the leg side, clipped fine for a couple.
Deepak Chahar to Lokesh Rahul. The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
We are all set for the action to begin. Out come the players along with the umpires. Lokesh Rahul and Chris Gayle are the openers for Punjab. Deepak Chahar to bowl the first over. Are Punjab out even before they play this game? The Mumbai-Delhi game is nailbiting... but you can still stay with us... we shall update you... OKAY... MUMBAI ARE KNOCKED OUT.
TOSS - Chennai win the toss and elect to field first.
Chennai too have a lot to play for in this game. A win here by a good margin can take them to the top of the table. Whereas, a loss by a big margin can take them out of the top two spots which is surely something Dhoni does not want. Also, they are coming on the back of a defeat and Chennai would want to get back to winning ways and gain momentum heading into the playoffs. The last time these two sides faced, we witnessed a last over thriller. Let us hope for the same here tonight..
Hello and welcome to the last game of the league stage and it is a clash between one team which has already qualified and the other needs a win here in Pune and a win by some margin to get into the playoffs. Though that is still not sure as the game between Mumbai and Delhi is still going on and we have to wait for that to get over before we know what the actual situation will be. Punjab though will be praying Delhi do them a favor and then they would hope they do their bit. They however, head into the game in the worst of forms as they are on a 4-match losing streak. They though have to put all that behind and come out with a positive mindset in this game. Ashwin will want all his players to come to the fore and come out victorious in this all important game.
Okay! Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata and Rajasthan are our final four. Surprised? Definitely. Not seeing Mumbai over there does raise questions. But well done to the other teams. The first two have been consistent, which is why they get two bites of the same cherry. Hyderabad and Chennai face off in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 1330 GMT (1900 local). The winner moves to the final while the loser gets another chance - awaiting the winner of the Kolkata-Rajasthan clash in the Eliminator in Kolkata on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 1330 GMT (1900 local). Join us for the clashes! ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
LUNGI NGIDI has been named the MAN OF THE MATCH for his 4/10 with the ball. Says that he really enjoyed bowling tonight and on seeing Chahar's opening over, he was grinning and eager to bowl. Praises MS Dhoni for his cricketing brain and credits him for helping him develop as an individual.
Victorious Chennai skipper Dhoni has a reason for the experiment of sending pinch-hitters. He says that the ball was swinging and Punjab were concentrating on getting the wickets. At such stages, when a pinch-hitter is sent, it creates a chaos and that is exactly what happened. On Chennai's unbroken record of making it to the Playoffs every season, MS credits the team management and the support staff. Says that having the same core unit does help. Maybe after 2 years that core will dissipate but these 10 years have been great for the franchise he says. On Chennai's success, he says that every side has highs and lows, just that on that particular day, one needs to be at his best. But if things do not go your way, then you need to accept your fate as well.
Sad way for Punjab to exit. Their bowling made a match of it in the Powerplay but once the ball got older, they found it difficult to control the proceedings. Rajpoot was superb but the leading wicket-taker Andrew Tye struggled big time. Earlier in the evening, another poor batting performance from Punjab saw them scrape past 150. Karun Nair gave them some respect but otherwise, it was a shoddy effort. They had no answer to Lungi Ngidi as he was superb tonight. Time for the presentation...
One might question Dhoni's tactics of sending two pinch-hitters at the top, but given that they had one foot already in the Playoffs, their management will not mind. And Chahar's promotion did pay off.
A comfortable win for Chennai, even though the scorecard does not show it. They were rocked early in a chase of a modest 154 but they experimented as well. Harbhajan was dropped on 0 and that could have cost them had the catch been taken. But Bhajji and later Deepak Chahar's cameo along with Raina's finesse took Chennai home.
'ALL-ROUNDER' Deepak Chahar is in next for an interview. Says that he was lucky to have got an opportunity to get to bat tonight and he made full use of it. On the bowling, he says that the ball was swinging early on and he just ensured that he landed the ball in the right areas. Agrees that his own confidence and that of the team is sky high. On his improvement in his career, Deepak says that before this tournament, he was a slow bowler but in this league, he has upped his pace. Clarifies that SHANE WATSON WAS RESTED TONIGHT and is not injured. Further says that he too, would have been rested had Kolkata lost their final game to Hyderabad.
Punjab captain, Ravichandran Ashwin sighs on having yet another poor day at the office. Reckons that the batting was the area where the game was lost and credits Karun Nair for making a match out of it. Praises his bowling and wishes that Aaron Finch had taken the catch of Harbhajan Singh. Admits that the middle and lower order has not contributed at all and in the second half of the season, the batting simply did not perform at all, not giving enough support to Lokesh Rahul. Also is blunt enough to say that Punjab have been sloppy in the field and the game against Bangalore was the one which hurt them a lot (where they lost by 10 wickets on May 14). On the road ahead, Ashwin manages a smile and says that it is a new franchise. So wants to sit down with his unit and spend some time with them as he believes that a good team atmosphere will produce good results in future.
Mohit Sharma to MS Dhoni. SIX! Done and dusted on the first ball itself. A short ball, on middle, Dhoni swivels and pulls it over backward square leg! CHENNAI WIN BY 5 WICKETS WITH 5 BALLS TO SPARE!!!

Final strategic break of the innings, match and night. Punjab are making things interesting in terms of this match. Not quite enough to make things interesting in terms of the Playoffs though. The rope to the final four is getting thinner and thinner and Chennai are rubbing salt on their wounds by sending in pinch-hitters. Clearly, Chennai are focussed on giving batting practice to all the players rather than try and win this game comprehensively.

Time for a break taken by the bowling side. Punjab gave themselves a chance in the Powerplay, bowling with fire, but guess Chennai are in total control. Maybe they might struggle to win in 17.4 overs to go on top, but somewhere Shane Warne might be packing his bags to go to Kolkata...

Ankit Rajpoot to Harbhajan Singh. DROPPED! Finch is the culprit!!! On a length outside off, Bhajji is squared up and the ball goes off the outside edge. This time it is a simpler catch for Chris Gayle at first slip but before the ball can reach West Indies, Australia come in between. Aaron Finch dives, well, one might say in hindsight, UNNECESSARILY, from second slip to his left but cannot hang on. Had he not dived, Gayle would have gobbled it and digested it as well. What an over... A DOUBLE WICKET MAIDEN!!!

Sam Billings walks in at number 4, replacing Faf du Plessis.
Ankit Rajpoot to Faf du Plessis. WHAT-A-CATCHHHHH! Take a bow, Chris Gayle. You have us floored. Terrific, terrific catch. A combination of some terrific bowling and fielding. Let us go play by play. Rajpoot comes charging in. Now let us have a look at Faf du Plessis' feet position. Pause. He is standing a bit sideways, opening his body a bit. Continue playing. Now let us have a look at where the ball is landing. Pause again. On a good length outside off, just around the area where there is a collection of grass. Continue playing. Now the movement. The ball jags back in off the seam and Faf is forced to play at it. Pause. Now because Faf is batting in a sideways position, he cannot leave the ball. Continue playing. Nothing he can do now. He is squared up and the ball flies off the outside edge. Now Chris Gayle at first slip. He watches the ball like a hawk and goes very low to his left. Now pause. Pause. Pause. In that position, he takes it with his palm facing skywards! How on earth did he do that? Well he did it on this very planet called earth. The umpires were not sure initially but replays confirmed that Faf has to go. What a catch, sir!
Gone? Yes, feels Gayle. Double yes, feels Rahul. Soft signal is OUT as the verdict is referred upstairs...

Andrew Tye to Suresh Raina. FOUR! Ho ho ho! Vintage Raina? Mostly! Backed away on the previous ball but here, he gives the charge. Jumps out, gets to the pitch of the ball and blasts it past the bowler down the ground for boundaries in succession. Moves to 10 from 7 balls with his second boundary. The stand is worth 22 from 15 balls. 129 more needed to win from 84 balls for Chennai to go on top.

Better... no fine leg now and he moves to second slip. But a ball too late?
Ankit Rajpoot to Faf du Plessis. EDGED, FOUR! Agonizing for the bowler. Sometimes one wonders - if you have to restrict the opposition in double figures, won't it be worth going with an all-attacking field? On a length outside off, du Plessis pushes at it but the ball lands, then seams away, takes the outside edge and goes - where? Where there is no man standing. At vacant second slip position. Towards the third man fence. Faf moves to 10 from 10 balls with his second boundary.

First boundary for Chennai. End of a successful over by Mohit.
Mohit Sharma to Faf du Plessis. Better by him! Goes full and on off, no swing though this time. Faf pushes it to mid off.
Mohit Sharma to Suresh Raina. Another short ball on middle, Raina tucks it around the corner for a run. Once again Mohit is slightly on the shorter side.
Mohit Sharma to Suresh Raina. Back of a length on off, Raina defends it onto the ground. Needs to go a little fuller here, the bowler needs to make use of the swing.
Suresh Raina walks in at no. 3.
Mohit Sharma to Ambati Rayudu. OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Sharma draws first blood and look at the Punjab players they are ecstatic. Brilliantly bowled. This is on a length around off, it pitches and then moves away from the batsman. Rayudu tries to defend but does not account for the movement away. The ball kisses the outside edge and goes into the mitts of Rahul who throws it up and appeals and the umpire agrees with him. Early wicket for the visitors and it is of the man who has been prolific for Chennai this season. Rayudu walks back for his first single digit score this season and it is game on here in Pune.
Mohit Sharma to Ambati Rayudu. Good length ball on off, Rayudu keeps it out.
Mohit Sharma to bowl from the other end.
Ankit Rajpoot to Faf du Plessis. A peach to end a very good first over by the bowler! Hits the length ball around off, it moves away late. Faf du Plessis plays inside the line and gets beaten.
For Punjab to qualify, they have to bowl Chennai out for 99. Whereas, if the home side wants to go on top, it needs to chase this target down within 17.4 overs.

Ankit Rajpoot to Faf du Plessis. BEATEN! Very well bowled by Rajpoot. Once again it is the awayswinger on off. Faf lunges forward and tries to defend it but gets beaten.
Ankit Rajpoot to Ambati Rayudu. Swing first up but that was nicely played by Rayudu. This is on a length around off, it shapes away. Ambati adjusts and plays it late with an angled bat down to third man for a run. Chennai are up and running.
We are back for the chase! Ambati Rayudu has a new partner with him as Faf du Plessis makes his way out to the middle. Ankit Rajpoot will start the proceedings for Punjab. He has two slips in place. Here we go...
