India vs South Africa Highlights And Cricket Score 3rd Match - T20I Commentary

End of Over : 20.0 IND: 172/7

Is 173 chaseable? Perhaps. No Kuldeep or Chahal on a slow pitch. Too many runs? Time will tell. Stay tuned for the answer...

They say, if you don't begin well, generally it is not a good day for you. Morris overstepped on the very first ball of the match and ended up with figures of 4-0-43-2. The bowling could have been much better had the chances been taken. Junior Dala was impressive once again while Aaron Phangiso strangely bowled only 2 overs.

India lost an early wicket again, this time Rohit Sharma managing more than 0. Dhawan and Raina then got going, managing a 65-run stand for the second wicket, surviving a few chances given by the South Africans. From there on, the Indian innings lost momentum. They got the odd boundary here and there but concentrated on the running.

Not a bad total by India but 47/4 in the last 5 overs - that might just hurt them. However, on a slower deck, 173 might just be a bit too much for the Proteas.

19.6 1

Chris Morris to Axar Patel. A yorker outside off, Axar dabs it towards mid off and the batsmen take a run. 10 from the over, with 2 wickets as well. INDIA FINISH ON 172/7!

19.5 3

Chris Morris to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Full on middle, flicked straight to square leg. Andile Phehlukwayo misfields and the ball nearly runs to the fence but Junior Dala rushes to his right from mid-wicket in the deep and saves the boundary. Three runs taken.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar walks in now.

19.4 W

Chris Morris to Dinesh Karthik. OUT! Well, he gets in a wicket now. The second of the over. Karthik walks across his stumps and misses his flick. The ball is straight and he is hit on his back foot. He takes the review after the umpire gives it out but starts to walk any which ways. Hawk Eye shows the impact to be in line and hitting the stumps.

LBW! But Karthik has taken the review. But he is walking back anyways...

19.4 wd

Chris Morris to Dinesh Karthik. WIDE. Third from Morris tonight. This is down the leg side again.

19.3 4

Chris Morris to Dinesh Karthik. FOUR! Poor ball, full and down the leg side, Karthik flicks it to the fine leg fence.

Axar Patel walks in now.

19.2 W

Chris Morris to Hardik Pandya. OUT! Pandya is gone. Big blow. Another slower ball, on middle and leg, Pandya is way too early into his flick but gets a leading edge. The ball goes miles in the air and three men come into contention - point, the keeper and short third man. Actually only two because it is Tabraiz Shamsi at short third man who does not move a muscle. Heinrich Klaasen calls for it and takes it calmly.

19.1 1

Chris Morris to Dinesh Karthik. Follows the batsman down the leg side, Karthik looks to play the reverse sweep but misses and is hit on the pads. A leg bye taken. Morris and Karthik smile.

Chris Morris to bowl the final over. 180? 185? Here we go...

End of Over : 19 15 Runs IND: 162/5
18.6 1

Junior Dala to Dinesh Karthik. A short ball, pulled to deep mid-wicket for a run. 11 from the over.

18.5 4

Junior Dala to Dinesh Karthik. FOUR! Easy peasy. Making use of the field. Mid off is up and Karthik goes up and over. One bounce and into the fence.

18.4 4

Junior Dala to Dinesh Karthik. FOUR! Stunning shot. On a length outside off, Karthik waits for the ball to come to him and steers it behind point for a boundary!

18.3 1

Junior Dala to Hardik Pandya. Full and outside off, driven through the covers for a single.

18.3 wd

Junior Dala to Hardik Pandya. WIDE. Miles outside off, left alone.

Dinesh Karthik finally gets a chance to bat.

18.2 W

Junior Dala to MS Dhoni. OUT! Dhoni holes out. He smiles. Very rarely does one see Dhoni getting caught at the boundary, that too down the ground. A length ball outside off, Dhoni looks to go over the top and seems to hit it pretty well too. But does not have the distance. David Miller takes it with ease at long off.

18.1 4

Junior Dala to MS Dhoni. FOUR! Streaky! On a length outside off, Dhoni looks to push through the off side but gets a thick inside edge which goes past the stumps and beats short fine leg!

Junior Dala time.

End of Over : 18 11 Runs IND: 147/4
17.6 1

Chris Morris to MS Dhoni. The batsman has worked it off his pads behind square. They pick up a single.

17.5 0

Chris Morris to MS Dhoni. A short ball, around off, Dhoni looks to pull but the ball goes over his head. Dhoni asks the square leg umpire about the wide but gets a negative answer.

17.4 1

Chris Morris to Hardik Pandya. Driven towards the mid on region. They pick up a single.

17.3 6

Chris Morris to Hardik Pandya. SIX! STUPENDOUS! A boundary after 29 balls! What a way to get that too. A length ball, around off, Pandya just pushes it over mid on and it goes all the way!

17.2 1

Chris Morris to MS Dhoni. The batsman has played it towards mid-wicket. They pick up a single.

17.1 2

Chris Morris to MS Dhoni. On middle, Dhoni pushes it towards long on, calls for two and gets them with ease.

Chris Morris is back on.

End of Over : 17 6 Runs IND: 136/4
16.6 1

Andile Phehlukwayo to MS Dhoni. The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. The batsmen have run through for a single. Just 6 from that over - only 19 from the last 3.

16.5 1

Andile Phehlukwayo to Hardik Pandya. Chips this towards long on and gets a run.

16.4 0

Andile Phehlukwayo to Hardik Pandya. A slower ball, outside off, Hardik looks to punch but gets a bottom edge back to the bowler.

16.3 2

Andile Phehlukwayo to Hardik Pandya. Down the leg side, Hardik pushes it through mid-wicket and calls for two. Dhoni is so quick that even before Farhaan Behardien gets to the ball, the second is completed. The facial expression of Farhaan says it all.

16.2 1

Andile Phehlukwayo to MS Dhoni. Pushes this down to mid on for a run.

16.1 1

Andile Phehlukwayo to Hardik Pandya. Full and outside off, pushed towards long off for a single.

End of Over : 16 5 Runs IND: 130/4
15.6 1

Tabraiz Shamsi to Hardik Pandya. Full and outside off, pushed to the off side for another one. 5 runs and a run out from that over. Shamsi finishes with figures of 4-0-31-1.

15.5 1

Tabraiz Shamsi to MS Dhoni. The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. One run added to the total.

15.4 1

Tabraiz Shamsi to Hardik Pandya. Full and outside off, pushed through mid off for a run.

15.3 1

Tabraiz Shamsi to MS Dhoni. The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot for a single.

15.2 0

Tabraiz Shamsi to MS Dhoni. Short and outside off, cut straight to point.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni walks in now, for the finishing duties. This is mouthwatering stuff. Two death over specialists in the middle.

15.1 W

Tabraiz Shamsi to Shikhar Dhawan. OUT! Well, Dhawan is walking but we are not sure whether that is out. On description of the ball, Dhawan comes down the track and whips it through mid-wicket. Hardik always wanted two and because he took a start, it helps him. But Dhawan takes a bit longer and hence is gone for all money. Junior Dala returns a superb throw to Heinrich Klaasen at the stumps and the LED illuminates. Dhawan starts to go but the umpire wants to check - did Klaasen disturb the bails before the ball hit the timber? Does anyone care? Certainly not Gabbar. He is off. Could have waited a bit longer for the third umpire's decision.

Direct hit? Or has Klassen taken the bails off? Dhawan is already walking off without even waiting for the confirmation. But the umpire has signalled it upstairs.

End of Over : 15 8 Runs IND: 125/3
14.6 1

Andile Phehlukwayo to Shikhar Dhawan. Driven towards the mid on region. The batsmen have run through for a single.

14.6 wd

Andile Phehlukwayo to Shikhar Dhawan. WIDE. A mega wide. Just as we have popcorn options in a multiplex cinema - Regular, Large and Tub - we should also have something for wides. This would have fallen in the third category. Phehlukwayo attempts a slower delivery but it goes horribly wrong, bowling it outside the pitch. Dhawan thinks about the paddle but then lets it go.

14.5 1

Andile Phehlukwayo to Hardik Pandya. A short ball, at the head of the batsman, Pandya plays that nicely, keeping the bat over the ball and controlling the pull shot, all along the ground, towards deep mid-wicket for a run.

14.4 0

Andile Phehlukwayo to Hardik Pandya. The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.

14.3 0

Andile Phehlukwayo to Hardik Pandya. Full on middle, Hardik chips it uppishly but it goes wide of the diving Andile.

14.2 2

Andile Phehlukwayo to Hardik Pandya. The batsman has flicked the ball off his pads. They manage to come back for the second.

14.1 2

Andile Phehlukwayo to Hardik Pandya. Full and outside off, chipped through the air wide of mid off for a couple.

14.1 wd

Andile Phehlukwayo to Hardik Pandya. WIDE. Pandya gets across his stumps and Phehlukwayo bowls it around leg stump. The ball goes down with the angle and Hardik misses his flick. A bowler might argue that it should not have been a wide. A batsman might say, well, it was down the leg side. What should the umpire do? Goes with the batsman in this case.

Andile Phehlukwayo is brought back on as well.

End of Over : 14 6 Runs IND: 117/3
13.6 1

Junior Dala to Hardik Pandya. Full and outside off, pushed through the covers for a run.

13.5 1

Junior Dala to Shikhar Dhawan. A short delivery which has been pulled away. They pick up a single.

13.4 1

Junior Dala to Hardik Pandya. Outside off, nips back in, Pandya is late in his defense and gets hit on the pads. The ball rolls to the off side and the batsmen pinch a single. No signal, so an inside edge must have been there.

13.3 1

Junior Dala to Shikhar Dhawan. The batsman has driven it through mid off. They pick up a single.

13.2 2

Junior Dala to Shikhar Dhawan. Outside off, punched through the covers. The throw comes in to Dala as the batsman pinch a second but the bowler misfields and it goes all the way down to long on. Hardik wants the third but Dhawan has backed up too far, hence is not aware. The angry young man gets angry again. The other day he was disappointed with one of the fielders when he conceded the second run off his bowling.

Hardik Pandya walks in at number 5, replacing Pandey.

13.1 W

Junior Dala to Manish Pandey. OUT! It is a catch and since it is not Shamsi, it is not down. Dala immediately strikes on return. He lands it on a length outside off, it cuts back in, Pandey looks to help it to the leg side but the ball skids through. Beats Pandey who can only get a top edge. He does not even want to run, so disappointed is he with that shot. Still, to give Dhawan the strike, he crosses over. Knows what is going to be the end result. It is David Miller underneath the ball at long on. Another failure for Pandey.

Change of pace. Junior Dala replaces Shamsi.

End of Over : 13 9 Runs IND: 111/2
12.6 1

Aaron Phangiso to Manish Pandey. Full and outside off, driven towards long off for one more. 9 runs from that over, but poor Phangiso could have had a wicket.

12.5 1

Aaron Phangiso to Shikhar Dhawan. Full again, outside off, slogged towards deep mid-wicket for a single.

12.4 4

Aaron Phangiso to Shikhar Dhawan. FOUR! SLAUGHTERED! Pay the price now. Full and outside off, Dhawan dances out and hits it over mid off for a boundary!

12.3 2

Aaron Phangiso to Shikhar Dhawan. TOP EDGE, MISSED AGAIN! Guess who is the fielder? Tabraiz Shamsi. Oh dear... fielding is not in his agenda. Full and outside off, Shikhar looks to sweep but gets a top edge. The ball goes miles in the air and Shamsi at short fine leg should have gobbled it. Instead, the opportunity presents a nervousness which gobbles him. He stutters and misses the ball. Two runs taken.

12.2 0

Aaron Phangiso to Shikhar Dhawan. Quicker one now. Outside off, a bit short, Dhawan looks to cut but the ball skids through, staying low and beats him.

12.1 1

Aaron Phangiso to Manish Pandey. Tossed up outside off, a bit slow, Pandey comes down the track, gets to the pitch of the ball, waits for it to come and blasts it to long on for a single.

End of Over : 12 17 Runs IND: 102/2
11.6 4

Tabraiz Shamsi to Shikhar Dhawan. FOUR! That is rubbish. Short and outside off, pulled to the deep mid-wicket fence.

11.5 1

11.4 1

Tabraiz Shamsi to Shikhar Dhawan. Comes down the track and eases it to long off for a single.

11.3 4

Tabraiz Shamsi to Shikhar Dhawan. FOUR! First boundary for Dhawan! On his 29th ball. A short ball, around off, Dhawan gets down and pull-sweeps it through mid-wicket for a boundary.

11.2 1

Tabraiz Shamsi to Manish Pandey. Drives this through mid on for a run.

11.1 6

Tabraiz Shamsi to Manish Pandey. SIX! Total misjudgement from the fielder! David Miller is the culprit. That should have been taken. Full and outside off, Pandey gets down and smites it over long on. Should have been taken but for some reason, David Miller comes running in and the ball goes beyond his head. Clears the ropes but he would have taken it had been at the fence.

End of Over : 11 4 Runs IND: 85/2
10.6 1

Aaron Phangiso to Manish Pandey. Looks to flick but the ball goes off the inner half through mid-wicket. No signal, must have been an inside edge. Just 4 from the opening over for Phangiso.

10.5 0

Aaron Phangiso to Manish Pandey. The batsman has played that off the front foot and into the ground.

10.4 1

Aaron Phangiso to Shikhar Dhawan. Comes down the track again, takes it on the full and drives it to long off for one.

10.3 0

Aaron Phangiso to Shikhar Dhawan. Dropped? Nope. Crowd catch. Full on middle, Shikhar comes down the track and hits it straight back to Phangiso who cannot hold on. Replays show that it came to him on the bounce.

10.2 1

Aaron Phangiso to Manish Pandey. Full and wide outside off, Pandey stays leg side of the ball and drives it through the covers for a run.

10.1 1

Aaron Phangiso to Shikhar Dhawan. Full on leg stump, eased to long on for a single.

Aaron Phangiso gets a look-in now.

End of Over : 10 6 Runs IND: 81/2

9.5 1

Tabraiz Shamsi to Manish Pandey. Flicks it through the leg side to get going, Pandey.

Manish Pandey is the new man in, replacing Raina.

9.4 W

Tabraiz Shamsi to Suresh Raina. OUT! Got him! Good running catch at long on! A wicket at the right time for South Africa! Shamsi loops it up around middle and off, Raina gets down on one knee and tries to hit it down the ground. Made good connection and it seemed like a biggie but... Farhaan Behardien comes across to his right from long on and takes a superb catch just near the rope. He covered it up for his misfield in a stunning manner.

9.3 1

Tabraiz Shamsi to Shikhar Dhawan. Gets down to sweep but gets it off the inside edge towards square leg for a single.

9.2 2

Tabraiz Shamsi to Shikhar Dhawan. Eases it past the man this time and scampers to the other end. A good start from chinaman, just 3 off his first over.

5.4 1

Chris Morris to Shikhar Dhawan. In and out of Shamsi's hands! Sigh! Catches don't come that easy, I tell you! On a length and closer to the off stump line. Dhawan doesn't have any room to cut but he still goes on with the shot. Ekes out a thickish edge straight towards Tabraiz Shamsi at short third man who spills it out. They still take a single. 1.3 W

Junior Dala to Rohit Sharma. OUT! Dala removes Rohit for the third time! Start all the bunny talks now. Junior drops it on a length around middle, it skids a bit off the deck and stays a touch low too. Rohit is late to bring his bat down this time and wears it on the pads. A loud appeal follows to which the umpire raises the finger after a thought. Dhawan wanted to have a chat but Rohit wasn't interested. The umpire however, wants to have a check at the front foot. 0.2 1

Chris Morris to Shikhar Dhawan. Keeps it full and serves it around off, Dhawan leans ahead to drive but mistimes it towards mid off. The man is a bit deep there which allows the southpaw to open his account.

Chris Morris to Rohit Sharma. Gets away with that! Full toss, wider outside off, Rohit Sharma goes after it but gets it off the toe-end of the bat through cover for just a single.

Free Hit coming up...

0.1 3

Chris Morris to Rohit Sharma. Have I jinxed him? Morris starts off with a huge front foot no ball. Fuller in length and angling back in on the pads, clipped easily away down to fine leg for a couple of runs.

Time for the national anthems then. It will be India's first followed by South Africa's. After the completion of it we are all set to get underway. The players and umpires are walking in the middle. There is a South African team huddle near the boundary rope. Now come the Indian openers - Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. It will be Chris Morris to steam in first up. A couple of slips in place. He bowled a maiden in the previous T20I. Can he start well again?

India skipper, Rohit Sharma informs Kohli has got a stiff back which is why he misses out today and Dinesh Karthik replaces him. Adds Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah replace Yuzvendra Chahal and Jaydev Unadkat. States in the last two games they have done decently with the bat and knows where did they go wrong. Is hoping that they end the tour on a high with a win. Reckons it looks a good batting wicket and feels that it should remain the same for the full 40 overs. Is excited for the decider and wants to put up a good show so that the crowd gets entertained as they have been coming in numbers to support them.

Protea skipper, JP Duminy says chasing has been the formula that has worked for them and hence they don't want to change it. Further says the wicket looks good with a fair bit of grass covering on it that should help his bowlers in the first six overs. Informs about the two changes that they have got for this game - JJ Smuts and Dane Paterson will miss out and Christiaan Jonker (debut) and Aaron Phangiso come in. Also, tells us that David Miller will open the batting tonight and he hopes that they do the basics right.

Toss - As expected, the Indians have not taken risk with Kohli who isn't fit. Rohit Sharma is out for the toss alongside JP Duminy. The former calls it wrong and it will be South Africa bowling for the THIRD TIME on the trot in the series.

South Africa, on the other hand, will be brimming with confidence after their stunning win in the second T20I. Heinrich Klaasen and JP Duminy have looked in good touch and they would hope to rub the same on others too. Their openers have struggled big time but given that they have won the last game and with momentum firmly on their side, it's highly unlikely that they would tweak the playing XI. Still we shall wait and find out as Shaun Pollock is out with the two skippers for the toss.

It all boils down the to the 'decider' in Cape Town today. Are you ready? We welcome you to the coverage of the final game on this long Indian tour to South Africa. First and foremost, Virat Kohli isn't deemed fit and is likely to miss out today. It would be interesting to see who fills in for him. Overall, the Indians have been good in limited-overs cricket and now it's time to put the right foot forward. Another good show and they will get their hands on the trophy but mind you, it won't be that easy.

End of Over : 20.0 SA: 165/6

Okay! That is all from us for this match, series and tour! South Africa vs India is done and dusted but cricket is not! Because in a few hours from now, depending on when you read this text, another cracker of a series gets going! New Zealand host England for one-dayers and Tests and that will be fun too! Do remember to follow those games as well, here only. Until then, ADIOS! TAKE CARE!

As far as South Africa are concerned, plenty to learn from this tour. India have given them a nice hard lesson on how to approach cricket with the white ball and this will only make life better for the home side. Do not forget, they were without AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock, Dale Steyn and also Chris Morris for a few games. Ouch. They will look to have majority of these back before they play Australia in a Test series starting from 1st March, 2018.

Right then! Fine end to the tour for India. Started with losing two Tests, then bounced back to win 4 games on the trot before the loss at Jo'burg, won the next 3 again, lost the second T20I and eventually won tonight. In short, after those losses in the first two Tests, just two losses in the next what - 10 games! Tremendous! They can now go back home and have a much-deserved rest before they go to Sri Lanka to play err.... a tri-series involving Bangladesh beginning from 6th March, 2018. Hard to find life in that series after a promising blockbuster like the SA one but still... cricket lovers might like it.

Victorious Indian captain ROHIT SHARMA is honest and says India were 15 runs short. Admits that his team lost its way with the bat towards the end but is also quick to say that these things happen and one needs to learn. Praises the bowlers for winning the game. On the second wicket stand, Rohit says that it is crucial for the top three to perform and it has happened throughout this tour. Hopes to keep replicating it as a group. On the game plans, he says that the team management discussed some plans and they worked tonight. Keeping things tight upfront helped and credits the new-ball bowlers. Feels that India's fast bowling has been excellent throughout the tour while the spinners have been brilliant. Praises the Indian side for showing a lot of intensity and aggression throughout the tour and that helped them win. Feels the biggest positive was that the team never backed out of difficult situations.

BHUVNESHWAR KUMAR is the MAN OF THE SERIES. He too, says that the whole team enjoyed a lot on this tour and credits everything to preparation. Thanks the Indian T20 league for making the Indian bowlers better prepared for T20 cricket enabling them to think on every ball. Says that his aim was to not give too much away in the Powerplay and it worked. On his variations, he says they are a necessity but the key was to keep bowling on the stumps. Smiles on being asked about the pitches which were more India-like and admits that he loved bowling on such surfaces.

SURESH RAINA is the MAN OF THE MATCH. Says that one needs to show intent in the Powerplay and that went against South Africa. On the pitch, he adds that it looked a beauty and one just needed to hang in there. Praises the entire unit for being calm throughout the tour, enjoying itself and getting the basics right. Credits the support staff and also captain Virat Kohli for the way he handled things. On his bowling, he says that tonight's experience has given him more confidence.

South African captain JP DUMINY smiles and says that India bowled very well in the Powerplay and SA could not quite get the boundaries or singles. Admits that the Proteas did really well to bring the difference down to 7 in the end. Feels that 173 could have been gettable but the Proteas could not quite read the knuckle balls and the slower ones. Prasies Jonker for his terrific effort and is proud of his side. On the newcomers coming to the SA side, he feels that there is a lot of talent available in South Africa. Adds that the home side has learnt a lot of lessons in this tour and praises India for a terrific white-ball performance, in spite of losing the Test series before.

Decent bowling figures for everyone apart from Bumrah and Axar. Bhuvneshwar was the pick of the lot, with 2/24 while Hardik Pandya was brilliant. The fact that India managed to win in spite of giving just one over to Axar shows how good their bowling depth is. Suresh Raina - wonderful all-round display - 43 with the bat and 1/27 with the ball. Presentation coming up...

It seemed like the match was done and dusted with 64 needed from 24 balls and Duminy dismissed. But suddenly, the Proteas started to throw their bats around and India started to lose their nerves. The next three overs went for 45 runs thanks to the debutant Christiaan Jonker but Bhuvneshwar Kumar showed his class in the end.

South Africa had a different approach. Unlike India, they went very slow in the Powerplay, managing only 25 runs, keeping wickets in hand. But that went against them, as they never managed to get close to the required run-rate. JP Duminy managed to score a half century but at the cost of too many balls.

India played perfectly on a sluggish pitch, going hard in the Powerplay, keeping their wickets intact in the middle overs and then trying to go hard in the death. They failed in the last attempt but still mustered a commanding 172/7.

Did JP Duminy lose the match at the toss? Perhaps he did. That is why one should pay close attention to the previous games. Earlier in the day, the Eves had won defending and during that run chase itself, South Africa Women found it difficult to score batting second. Still, he chose to field.

What a finish. Perfect fitting to a series finale. India seemed to boss the game till the 15th over of the run chase but nearly lost it in the remaining 5... only to hold their nerves... just.

The ball is palmed over. Axar Patel runs after it, so does Shardul Thakur from third man. The latter stops, seeing Axar dive but it is vain. Now Thakur blames Axar that had he not dived, he could have stopped the ball. Pandey too, asks Axar whether Thakur could have stopped the ball. The answer is a shake of the head from Axar. No way Shardul could have got to that.
