The conditions did favour the home team this morning and their pacers took no time in picking up the remaining wickets. The score is still a good one and the conditions are still overcast. It is going to be a testing period for the English openers and they would hope to get through this safely. India, on the other hand, will try their best to get some quick wickets before Lunch. Stay tuned.

The England bowling had contrasting stories. They were brilliant when the conditions overhead were cloudy, the first session of Day 1 was an example as Chris Woakes managed to take three quick wickets. However, as the sun came out, the swing was not visible and the bowlers could not produce the same magic. Adil Rashid was expected to deliver but he was not up to the mark, although he bagged the prized scalp of Virat Kohli.

India though will still be happy with their overall batting performance. First, it was Dhawan and Rahul who got them off to a solid start but then three quick wickets had put them on the back foot. Post that, Virat Kohli along with the vice-captain, Ajinkya Rahane, who was in desperate need of runs, came to the fore. The pair added 159 which set the foundation for a big first innings total. The lower order added handy runs but failed to take the total past the 350-run mark.

Boom, boom, boom, that is how England have gone about their business this morning. 22 runs, that's all India have managed to add to their overnight total. Once again it is the duo of Broad and Anderson who have made use of the bowling-friendly conditions and bundled out the remaining wickets in no time.

James Anderson to Jasprit Bumrah. OUT! Bowled 'em! It's all over for India. England have wrapped up the Indian innings earlier than they would have expected. Anderson fires this outswinger on a length and attacking the stumps. Bumrah tries to block it from the crease. But the slight away movement beats the outside edge of his bat and the ball shatters the stumps. INDIA ALL OUT FOR 329!

Jasprit Bumrah is the next batsman in.

James Anderson to Mohammed Shami. OUT! And the aggressive tactics have not worked for Shami here. Anderson keeps it on a length on middle and off. Shaping away after landing. Shami, as he tried earlier in the over, goes for a wild swing. The ball moves away slightly on hitting the deck and he gets a top edge. The ball flies high in the air and Stuart Broad at mid on takes the skier safely.

Stuart Broad to Ishant Sharma. A peach to end it! Broad has his tail up here. He is really making the ball talk. On a length around off, this time he gets the ball to move away. Ishant is squared up as he tries to defend and the ball goes past the outside edge.

Stuart Broad to Mohammed Shami. What a shot to get off the mark! Full and outside off, Shami slaps it through covers, not off the middle but enough to get three. Handy runs are these for India. They would take every one of them with open arms.

Stuart Broad to Ravichandran Ashwin. OUT! KABOOM! What an absolute beauty! That has swung in like a banana and very late. Almost similar to the delivery Broad got Pujara with in the last Test. Unplayable. Pujara had no answers and now Ashwin too has none. Broad comes running in and bowls it full outside off, it comes back in very late. Ashwin has his front foot planted across but then seeing the ball tail back in, he tries to flick. He misses, the ball hits his pads and then uproots the middle pole. Broad gets his second this morning and England are now into the tail which they would want to clean up as quickly as possible.

Ashwin is only half forward as he tries to defend it. The ball takes the outside edge and goes low and quickly towards fourth slip. The man there dives and gets a hand to it but fails to hang on. The ball rolls towards short third man and the batsmen take a run.

Stuart Broad to Ishant Sharma. Full and swinging in again. This time a bit too much of swing though. Ishant tries to get bat on ball but the inward movement beats his bat and the ball hits his pads. Going down leg though.

Stuart Broad to Rishabh Pant. OUT! Drags it on. And it's the debutant, Pant, who has to take the long walk back. Broad this time keeps it a bit fuller outside off. He gets it to swing away from Pant after pitching. The southpaw, who was showing good patience and grit until now, goes for an extravagant drive through the covers. He reaches out a bit, away from his body with zero footwork. As a result, the ball takes the inside edge and crashes into the stumps. Pant looks dejected. Broad gives him a send-off. Hmm...

The ball takes the outside edge and goes through the slip cordon for the second boundary of the over. So runs coming thick and fast for India this morning and they have crossed the 320-run mark.

Will have to wait for a replay to find out as Ashwin gets off the mark with a boundary. Not in a convincing manner though. Broad bowls it on a back of a length outside off, Ashwin goes after it with no foot movement, a needless shot to be honest. The ball takes a thick outside edge and goes over Buttler at second slip, who just could not get up in time. A boundary at third man results. End of a good over for India, they have started on a positive note.

Sir Ian Botham (on air) feels that the pitch will get quicker today and it was a bit tacky yesterday. David Bumble adds to it that usually Day 2 is the best day to bat as the pitch becomes easy-paced.

The former English skipper, Alastair Cook, is up for a chat with Michael Atherton. On catching in the slips, he replies it's more comfortable fielding in the slip cordon with those you have been doing it for long. Adds further that their slip catching has not been great lately. Mentions they have been working on the type of catch he took yesterday and he is delighted it stuck. Admits that Trent Bridge has not been his favourite ground but he hopes his fortune will change. Reckons playing spin now is much more difficult than it was earlier due to the use of the DRS. Reminds that earlier the batsmen used to take a long stride forward with the bat hiding behind the pads but now they have to play more with the willow. Feels that the dangerous ball is the one which skids on with the arm. Ends by saying that the way they bat in the first innings will be very crucial.

England's pacers, on the other hand, will be keen on utilizing the pacer-friendly morning conditions and keep the visitors in check. Let us hope we get another day of exciting cricket. With the pendulum of momentum swinging from one team to the other throughout Day 1, both teams are looking to get a strong hold on this match. The first session will be crucial as India's primary target will be to cross 350. However, if Pant and Ashwin bat to their potential, the visitors could even get near 400 or even surpass it.

... Day 2, Session 1 ...

It's been a superb day of Test cricket. India started well but then England shot back courtesy Chris Woakes. Then, the tourists recovered from the quick blows owing to the 159-run stand between Kohli and Rahane. Both the batsmen however were very unlucky not to get their centuries. After going wicket-less for the entire afternoon session, the hosts managed to pick three more in the evening session to end the day's play on level terms. The wicket looks good for batting, with not a lot of assistance for the bowlers. Let us hope we are up for a similar day of cricket on Day 2. Do join us then. Take care and goodbye!

India do not have a lot of batting to come but they would hope for Pant along with the remaining batters to contribute and cross the 350-run mark. The hosts, on the other hand, will look to bundle out the remaining wickets quickly and then try and bat well.

Earlier in the day, after being put into bat, Rahul and Dhawan got India off to a solid start. Woakes then brought the hosts back into the game with three quick wickets. Kohli and Rahane then rose to the occasion and built a huge partnership to put India on the front foot. But wickets at crucial intervals helped the home side hang around in the game.

Virat Kohli looked destined for another ton but once again he fell prey to the spin of Rashid. England at that moment would have sniffed a chance to run through the remaining wickets but the debutant, Pant, showed no signs of nerves. He played his shots and his partnership with Hardik saw India cross the 300-run mark for the first time in this series. They were really batting well and it seemed like the tourists would end the day on top but Anderson's 100th Test scalp against India at the very end means things, for now, stand even-stevens.

What an attritional day of cricket! Both sides, I believe, will be happy heading into the dugout. More so England, who have fought back really well in the last session by picking up three vital wickets. Kohli and Rahane were cruising along after the Tea break. The two added 159 before the latter was dismissed 19 short of a ton. Kohli then, along with Pandya, continued as the pair added another handy partnership.

James Anderson to Hardik Pandya. OUT! A wicket right at the fag end. This is Anderson's 100th Test wicket against India. What a champion bowler. Pandya had to see off just that one more ball - but fails to do so. Jimmy continues to probe away in the corridor of uncertainty but this was a ball which perhaps Hardik could have left. But that compulsive 'have-to-put-bat-to-ball' mindset in him forces the all-rounder to come forward and have a tame push. There is some extra bounce on the ball and it also seams away a bit after hitting the deck. That movement allows the ball to take the outside edge. It flies to second slip, where Buttler takes his second catch of the innings. Pandya walks back like a man furious with the whole world. Throughout the over and also the one before, he was asking the umpires - 'How many balls left? How many balls left?' Well, that particular eagerness to head back to the dressing room might have cost him his wicket. THAT WILL BE STUMPS ON DAY 1!

Huge, huge wicket with only 14 overs to go and the second new ball around the corner. Rashid bowls a beautifully tossed up delivery, enticing the batsman to go for the drive. Kohli could not stop himself as he tries to caress it through covers. The ball turns and also bounces a touch more. Takes the outside edge and settles into the hands of Stokes. End of a masterful knock by the run machine. He becomes only the third Indian batsmen to get out in the 90s at Trent Bridge. England though will now look to get a few more before Stumps as Rishabh Pant, the debutant, walks out to the middle.

The England bowlers gave their all but never looked like dismissing either Kohli or Rahane. Also, once the sun was out, the conditions did not assist them. Rashid was poor when he was brought on, guilty of bowling either too full or too short. They need to come out after the break with a certain plan to break this stand or the two might just take the game away from the hosts. Join us for the all-important final session in some time.

An excellent session for India, a wicket-less one, courtesy the captain and the vice-captain who walk off to a standing ovation from the dressing room and the crowd. These two joined forces after the break and made batting look really easy. They got their eye in and then started milking the bowlers. Both have got a half century each and have stitched a 107-run stand so far, thereby putting India on the front foot. The tourists would hope for them to continue with the good work and convert this into a massive partnership.

... Day 1, Session 2 ...

The home team started in a bit of a frantic fashion after putting the visitors into bat. Anderson and Broad bowled good lines and lengths but they were inconsistent with it. This allowed the Indian openers to get into the game and put a 50-run stand, first for the opening wicket since Edgbaston. Once Woakes and Stokes got the ball in their hand, they started pushing the pressure back on the opposition batters. Their consistency earned England wickets of the opening duo, and just before the Lunch break, they managed to remove Pujara as well. The number 1 Test team is in the usual territory, reeling behind in the game. The post-lunch session starts in a while, hang around.

How the fortunes change, I dare say. India, who were cruising before the drinks break, have now lost their third wicket just at the stroke of lunch. This has an uncanny resemblance to the first innings of the first Test where they were reduced to 76/3 after getting a similar start. Pujara's reckless shot cost him his wicket, which now has put the visitors' fragile middle-order in for a test. It was India's session up until drinks as I said, losing no wickets. Both Rahul and Dhawan started well, showed intent while leaving and defending, and when they got the loose balls, they made sure they capitalized on it. Woakes, the star of the Lord's game, put his hand up yet again, and has got his side right back in the contest.

Chris Woakes to Cheteshwar Pujara. OUT! What? How could you Pujara, how could you, and that too on the cusp of Lunch? It was a nothing delivery, a short ball on middle and leg. He pulls it with power. If only he had hit it 10 meters left or right to Rashid at fine leg, it would have gone for a boundary but no. Rashid only has to take a few steps across to his left to pouch an easy catch. Pujara is shell-shocked, so is Ravi Shastri in the dressing room, and Kohli looks bamboozled as well. On the other hand, Woakes can't believe his luck as he celebrates with a huge smile on his face. Pujara keeps on finding unusual ways to get out. Anyhow, that's LUNCH ON DAY 1.

India skipper, Virat Kohli says that they wanted to bat first. He believes there is grass on the pitch but it looks like a good batting track. Adds that the batsmen are looking to be positive and enter with a mindset to score runs. Expects the surface to slow down after a couple of days and reckons that the spinners may come into play later on in the match. Admits that this is a very important game for them but staying in the moment and being positive is what they will be focusing on. Informs about a few tactical as well as combination changes in the playing XI as Murali Vijay, Kuldeep Yadav and Dinesh Karthik make way for Shikhar Dhawan, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant (on Test debut).

England skipper, Joe Root says he will bowl first as there is a lot of grass on the track and they'll look to make most of it. Further adds that they are bowling well right now and these are good conditions for their fast bowlers to exploit. Informs that Ben Stokes comes in for Sam Curran and reckons that Adil Rashid may come into play later on as the pitch gets drier. Asserts that they are excited as a team and would look to continue with the same momentum that they have carried until now. Ends by saying that they are elated to be in the position they are in, however, they still need to play their best in the next few days to stay on the winning side.

Reckons the surface has a liberal covering of grass with green as well as brown sheen underneath the fresh crop. Expects it to be dry, and spinners would come into play from Day 3 onward. Let's begin by saying India are going through a lot, and I'm not talking about cricket. The country celebrated their 72nd Independence Day a few days back and since then, it's been news of tragedy after tragedy. First the news of Ajit Wadekar's demise plunged the cricketing world into mourning and the very next day, an iconic political leader and the former Prime Minister, Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee breathed his last. Both leaving a lasting legacy. The country is trying to recover from these huge losses and now, the news of Kerala's woes came in where the unprecedented rain has brought the state to a standstill, claiming many lives. In these tough times, we pray for the situation to improve and get back to normalcy as soon as possible.

Earlier in the session, the England openers commenced from where they left but couldn't stick around for long. After that, Root did try to make things right but the 'Pandya' wind blew everything and everyone away. The home team were down to 128/9 and hence, the session was extended. In this little phase, however, Buttler changed gears and thrashed a few to drag the total to 161 and save the follow on. The Indian team should feel happier considering they have a big lead now and will look to swell it further. The pitch is still doing enough to assist the bowlers and the batters will need to show application to survive. The play starts after the break in a short while, hang around!

Blown away in a session! For the first time in this series, the Indian bowlers have shown what they can do. After the 50-run stand between the opening duo, the visitors did not allow any other pair to stitch any partnership. Their destroyer-in-chief was Hardik Pandya who got his first 5-fer of his Test career. He went through the middle order, and was nicely supported by his colleagues who were into the wickets column as well. A special mention for Rishabh Pant as he became the youngest keeper to take five catches in an innings.

Jasprit Bumrah to Jos Buttler. OUT! That is it! Buttler holes out! However, it is an excellent cameo from him. Bumrah bangs in another short of a length delivery. Buttler tries to clear the cow corner region but gets a top edge towards long on. Shardul Thakur, the substitute there, runs in and takes a good catch. ENGLAND ARE BOWLED OUT FOR 161 and INDIA GAIN A 168-RUN LEAD!

Jasprit Bumrah to Jos Buttler. In the air... but safe! Also couple added to the total! A good bouncer on middle, Buttler goes for the pull but the ball takes the top edge and lands in no man's land at the fine leg region and the batsmen run two. Bumrah is not happy with Shami's effort as he felt there was only a run there.

Ishant Sharma to James Anderson. And Anderson plays it out like an expert. On the stumps, he plants his front foot forward and blocks it.

He then goes for the review but the replays show there is an edge. Pandya now has a three-fer and the centurion of the last game walks back with a single digit score.

Woakes has been given caught behind! He goes for the review, not immediately though. Strange as a batsman most of the times knows whether he has hit it or not and had he not, he would have gone for it straightaway. Let's find out...

India though won't mind as they have the talisman of the English batting line-up and that too cheaply. Hardik Pandya has delivered straightaway. He bowls it on a back of a length around off, it pitches and straightens. Root goes back and tries to push the ball inside the line but it takes the outside edge and goes low towards Rahul at second slip. He seems to have taken it and starts celebrating. Root waits there. The umpires have a chat and then take it upstairs. The soft signal is OUT. Time for the replays and after several looks, it is ruled in favour of the visiting side. Really a 50-50 call as from one angle it looked like the ball had bounced off his fingers while from the other angle, it appeared to have touched the ground first. Anyway, the decision has been made and the Indians are celebrating. They are right on top now as England trail by another 243 runs.

The hosts now trail by 283 and they would hope the current pair keeps on batting in a similar way. End of an excellent morning session for England! First, it was their two premium bowlers who took two wickets each and kept India under 350. Then their openers, under testing conditions, not only head into the lunch break wicket-less but have also scored ever so fluently. They were also helped by the Indian bowlers who were very poor as they bowled too many short deliveries and paid the price for it.

The England bowlers weren't poor. They tried hard but without much success. A few chances went down too. But you cannot take the credit away from India. They dealt with the conditions superbly to blunt the English pacers. Adil Rashid was a big disappointment for the home team. A powerful batting show by India yet again. After gaining a handsome lead, their batsmen came out with positive intent and batted with a lot of control. Their openers once again laid a strong platform and then the pair of Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli swelled the lead with a century partnership. The former missed his ton but the Indian skipper once again displayed his class by notching up his second hundred of the series. One can feel that the tourists delayed in declaring their innings but they still have 189 overs to take England's 9 wickets (Bairstow with a fractured finger is doubtful to bat).

Here comes the declaration. England's misery is over, finally. India have set a gigantic target of 521 runs in front of the home team to win this Test and seal the series. A nearly impossible task and England will consider themselves lucky if they come out unscathed.

That was a very full delivery very wide of off stump, also shaping away from pant. Pant gives it a wild swing, T20 like, but misses completely. Anderson is not amused.

Coming to the delivery - Woakes bowls the inswinger on off, it tails back in late. Kohli tries to flick but misses to get hit on the pads. The players appeal and the umpire raises the finger. Kohli walks up to his partner and then after a chat, goes for the review. Replays roll in and they show the ball to be clipping the leg pole. England strike early after the Tea break, they would now hope to get a few more quickly.

It has been a one-way traffic, just like the morning session. The only difference is India lost Pujara for 72 to Stokes. He missed a well-deserved ton but apart from that, it has been nothing but frustration for the likes of Anderson and co. Also Rashid has been pretty ordinary in this Test, not helping the cause of his team. After Pujara's dismissal, Rahane joined hands with the Indian skipper, who is currently batting on 93, and toyed with the English bowlers even more. This match has reached that stage where everyone will be thinking about one thing, when will India declare? They already have a lead in excess of 400 and are bossing this game. Virat Kohli is approaching his century and maybe that's the one thing they would like their skipper to achieve before putting England to bat again.

This session can easily be put in India's basket. They have maneuvered the strike well and looked set to take the English bowlers gas out, who are already looking tired. Both Kohli and Pujara, have scored a half-century and frustrated the opposition. The pitch is getting slower by the hour as well and it will be difficult to bat on the 4th and 5th day to put it subtly. Hang around, the post-Lunch session starts in a short while.

Slow and steady wins the race - that's India's mantra it seems. Both the batters, Kohli and Pujara have been solid and watchful this morning, not giving too many chances to the opposition. There was a catch spilt by Buttler of Pujara but other than that, there is not much to show for the English bowlers in this session. One thing they have managed to do well is that they have kept a check on the run-rate and haven't allowed too many boundaries. However, the partnership between the duo has blossomed even more and it looks ever so threatening for the home team.

After a bit of a discussion, Root goes upstairs. The replays suggest that the ball took an inside edge before hitting him on his pad. Clever thing here was Kohli (if intentional), never looked up to show any emotion. He could well have been laughing with his head bowed down as he knew there was a certain edge. Hello and welcome to the third day of the third Test between England and India. The visitors are in the driver's seat and they probably have a chance to bat the hosts out of the game. They still have 8 wickets in hand and with Kohli and Pujara, who looked in sublime touch yesterday, they will surely be trying to do so.

Hardik Pandya gives a quick interview. He is delighted after picking a fifer. Feels that his batsmen batted superbly in the first innings and informs that post-lunch they decided to bowl in the right areas consistently. Further adds that the plan was to choke the run flow as the wickets weren't coming initially. Says that he is not afraid to get driven as it also gives him the chance to pick up wickets when the ball is moving. On the wicket of Woakes, he mentions that it was a plan to bowl short as he was told that Chris has got out a few times in the past against such deliveries. Signs off by saying that he doesn't care what people say about him and he has the backing of his team which is more important.

For the Men in Blue, all the bowlers did a commendable job as for the first time in this series they had the opposition on the mat. Bumrah, Ishant and Shami got their names in the wickets column as well and helped restrict England to just 161. They were relentless in their approach as the home team lost 9 wickets in a space of mere 74 runs. Buttler's T20-style heroics reduced the deficit but still, India ended up getting a handy 168-run lead.

Earlier in the day, Pant along with Ashwin came in to bat on an overcast morning. They couldn't do much as the remaining four wickets were removed by the Broad-Anderson duo. India could only add 22 runs to their overnight score, however, it looked more than enough on this Trent Bridge track. In reply, Cook and Jennings did rush to a 50-run opening stand, but afterwards, it was a one-way traffic. Pandya, the bowling star, ran through the middle order on his way to his maiden 5-fer in Tests. In the due process, 16 wickets were lost in the day (India - 6, England - 10).

What a day of cricket we have had. The team from the subcontinent will be elated with the position they find themselves in at the end of the day's play. Their batters have made sure that their already advantageous position is solidified even more in the last session. Just like the first innings, Dhawan and Rahul stitched a 50-run stand, and the latter lost his wicket at exactly the same score. After that, Pujara and Dhawan played cautiously before the southpaw got stumped out on 44 to Rashid. Afterwards, the Indian skipper along with Pujara played for Stumps.
