Australia vs India Highlights And Cricket Score 2nd Match - ODI Commentary
1st Inn
2nd Inn
End of Over : 50.0AUS: 298/9
For the Indians, the pick of the bowlers were Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami who finished with figures of 4/45 and 3/58 respectively. Mohammed Siraj had a forgetful debut where he went on to concede the most runs by an Indian bowler on debut. A tough initiation to ODI cricket for him. As for the spinners, they were ineffective as they failed to pick more than 1 wicket. Coming to the chase, the pitch does look good to bat on and with small boundaries, there should be no reason why this target cannot be achieved by the Indians. They will have to guard against the new-ball pair of Australia that ripped the top order apart the last time. The visitors will look for a good start from the two openers as well as look up to their captain to get to this stiff target. We should be back in some time, stay tuned...
A strong finish by India here but one would have to believe that Australia have put on a score above par on the board here. They would have loved to reach 300 but unfortunately for them, they lost their way once the partnership between Glenn Maxwell and Shaun Marsh was broken. Only 17 runs came off the last 3 overs while four wickets were lost. But the Aussies wouldn't be too bothered as 93 runs came off the last 10 overs and with the help of the two boundaries from Nathan Lyon in the end, the hosts have reached 298/9. The innings began very slowly and the visitors picked up two early wickets in the form of Alex Carey and Aaron Finch. Post that though, Shaun Marsh took control and with the help of four fifty-plus stands in a row, got to his seventh ODI century. The best of these four was the last one with Maxwell where they added 94 runs in 65 balls. Shaun's big innings of 131 held together Australia even as wickets fell around him. Eventually, a more than decent score was achieved.
49.66
Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Nathan Lyon. SIX! Take a bow, Nathan Lyon! These are vital hits and the GOAT is providing important runs for his side. A knuckle ball and he bowls this outside off on a good length, Marsh hits it in the air towards long off. He got the middle of the bat but not the height or distance required. Jadeja at long off takes a simple catch and it brings to end an amazing innings. Shaun has done his job though, has taken Australia to a really good score here.
47.40

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Glenn Maxwell. OUT! Easy catch taken by Karthik at long off. This is good bowling from Bhuvneshwar. Bowls it wide outside off on a length and Maxwell once again reaches out for it and hits it in the air towards long off. He is off balance and does not get enough power to clear the fielder. Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Glenn Maxwell. A good slower one outside off on a length, Glenn goes for the huge one but completely misses the ball and fails to connect.
45.12
Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Glenn Maxwell. That would be frustrating for the bowler. A poor fielding effort in the deep allows for the second run. A slower one outside off, hit in the air towards deep cover by Maxwell. It was straight to the fielder and there should have been no way two could be taken there. GM back on strike though.
45.1wd

43.51
Mohammed Siraj to Glenn Maxwell. Another appeal and this time the umpire doesn't raise his finger. A yorker on middle and leg, Maxwell misses his shot once more and the ball hits him on his pads. Looks to be going down leg and the umpire also says no. The Indians consider reviewing but in the end don't go upstairs. A good decision as from the replays it looked like the ball would have missed leg stump.
43.44
Mohammed Siraj to Glenn Maxwell. FOUR! As i said, there is a lot that 'The Big Show' can do. Puts this one on a fuller length on middle, Maxwell makes room and cuts this in the air over point. Kuldeep Yadav to Glenn Maxwell. Short on middle. It is a googly by Kuldeep, the ball doesn't bounce as much as Maxwell expects but he still manages to pull it away towards deep mid-wicket for a single. End of Kuldeep's spell, he goes wicket-less and concedes too many runs as well. Not his day!

Delivers this on a length outside off and it turns away, Peter goes for the sweep through mid-wicket but misses. He has dragged his back foot outside the crease and Dhoni takes the bails off, not as swiftly as he usually does but this time it is because he knows that the foot was outside. Handscomb didn't try to bring his foot back but looked to get the bat in. Though it was too late. A huge wicket at this stage of the game, especially because Handscomb is one of the better players of spin in this team. A timely wicket for the visitors.

A flatter one outside off, cut away by Khawaja towards point. Jadeja moves quickly to his left and picks it up and throws it towards the non-striker's end stumps all in one motion. Kuldeep does well to get out of the way of the throw as the ball goes on to knock down the wickets and there is a loud appeal. Khawaja doesn't look too confident. Virat Kohli gives it out already as it is referred upstairs. The replays roll out and... Wow! Khawaja is indeed short by a couple of inches. What a wicket for the Indians, and what a way to get it. The players and umpires are out in the middle. Aaron Finch and Alex Carey are the two opening batsmen for the hosts. Bhuvneshwar Kumar with the first new ball for India. Let's play!
India skipper, Virat Kohli, says that they would have batted first as well, considering the conditions which are hot and humid. Hopes that the breeze will be there continuously. Reckons it's a great opportunity for them as they are under pressure to come back in the series. Adds that they have one change to their line-up with Mohammed Siraj (ODI debut) replacing Khaleel Ahmed.
Australia skipper, Aaron Finch, feels it is a good wicket and won't change much. Mentions that they don't want to change things too much from the previous game where they batted first and won. Informs that they do not have any change in personnel.
TOSS - Australia have won the toss and they elect to bat first!
Pitch Report- Brendon Julian with the pitch report feels the surface has a grass covering around 6 mm which has been cut short from the pitch used for the Test match. He also feels there will be good carry for the pacers. Adds that it has been low scoring in the past with an average of 240-250 batting first. Continues saying there are decent boundary sizes today with a smallest of 57 meters. Reckons that the captain winning the toss will bat first and should look to score about 270-280.
The hosts somehow struck gold in Sydney, with the bowlers firing and taking the Men in Blue by surprise. Newcomers Jhye Richardson and Jason Behrendorff starred with the ball, and the middle order shouldered big responsibility as well. India had a rather rare off day with the bat, but that doesn't happen very often. Barring century-maker Rohit Sharma, nobody really was able to make much of an impact. Though, if the Aussies produce something similar today, we can expect a close encounter.
Welcome, cricket lovers! It wasn't the best of starts for the Indian side in the World Cup year. The Test series win was huge, no doubt, but the 50-over format will no doubt take more precedence now. India lost to a largely inexperienced Australian side, but captain Virat Kohli remains undeterred, as he maintains it's all about figuring out what's best for the big stage to come.
End of Over : 49.2IND: 299/4
Sydney went to the Aussies, Adelaide goes to the Indians. We are all square at 1-1 and there is all to play for in the final game at the MCG. That one will begin at 1320 local (0220 GMT) on the 18th January, Friday. Take care and see you for that one. Cheers!
India's skipper is also the Man of the Match. He is very pleased with the overall effort and says that to get the wickets of Shaun Marsh and Glenn Maxwell in quick succession at the death was crucial which meant they were not chasing 330. Praises Bhuvneshwar Kumar and adds that he brought back the whole team into the game. States that Vijay Shankar is in the squad and that gives them the option but he is not too keen on changing the winning combination. Feels that his bowlers did pretty well. On his innings, Virat says he tries to get into the zone whenever there is a target on the board. Adds that the whole idea was to keep things simple and also take calculative risks. Hopes to keep helping the team. Further says that it was a really tough day with the conditions being too hot and they need a good day rest. On MS Dhoni, Kohli says that there is no doubt that he should be a part of this team. Praises him and says that he calculates the game so well and today was an MS classic. Mentions about the contribution of Karthik as well who showed the right kind of intent.
Australia's captain, Aaron Finch says that they hung in really well and praises India for their batting. Feels they needed to keep taking wickets but ran into that man Dhoni. Praises MSD for timing his innings and credits India for playing well and calls it a good game of cricket. Mentions that they need to get their batting in the first Powerplay right and admits he is responsible for that and needs to start scoring. Further adds that he is trying to get the best out of the players and as a captain he needs to be consistent with his action. Lauds Shaun Marsh for his century under brutal conditions. On managing his bowlers, Finch replies that it would have been nice to have Jhye Richardson bowl at the death. States that it's tough against experienced batsmen and reckons there are lots of positive for them. Looking forward to MCG and hopes to win the series there.
Coming to Australia's batting inning earlier, it was mainly revolved around Shaun Marsh's 131 which powered the total to 298. It was eventually about 10-20 short as it proved to be. A point to be considered could also be the last 3 overs of the Australian batting innings which yielded only 17 runs. Made all the difference in the end. Stay tuned for the presentation ceremony!
Virat though continued playing as he normally does in chases and was involved in two more fifty-plus stands, first with Ambati Rayudu and then with MS Dhoni. He reached his 39th ODI century but fell short after getting there. When he fell, a further 57 were required but Dinesh Karthik joined hands with the former India skipper and took the Indians over the line, going all the way to the last over. A very important factor in the chase was the running between the wickets as the Indians ran the field ragged. MSD was a little cramped up in the end but finished stuff with a trademark six that shows the fighting spirit of the man. For the Aussies, no bowler made a great show but none was very poor either. Just a good game of cricket in the end and India just about played better than Australia to level the series 1-1.
So that should settle the debate on whether Dhoni still has it in him or not. He has proved exactly why he is so important to the team going into the World Cup. Got his second consecutive fifty and took India to victory. The chase though, was more than just about Dhoni. It started off really solidly with Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan adding 47 for the first wicket before the latter perished to an unnecessary shot. The former though was joined in the middle by the skipper Virat Kohli and what followed was a lovely display of batting where runs were being milked easily till Rohit holed out at deep mid-wicket.

Third man comes around in time and stops it just inside the boundary. The batsmen have just run one there, that is poor cricket from the Indian openers. Dhawan expected that to go to the fence and stopped running. Later on, they see that the ball was stopped but it was too late to go back for the second.
2.30
Jason Behrendorff to Shikhar Dhawan. Oooh! Lucky for Dhawan there. The ball is on off and comes in a bit, the lefty looks to flick it but gets an inside edge onto the pads. Would have been plumb in front if not for that edge.

Australia vs India Highlights And Cricket Score 2nd Match - ODI Commentary
Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Nathan Lyon. SIX! Take a bow, Nathan Lyon! These are vital hits and the GOAT is providing important runs for his side. Slightly fuller around off, he moves across and muscles the slog over mid-wicket for a biggie. With that, he gets his side close to 300. AUSTRALIA FINISH ON 298/9!
Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Nathan Lyon. Length ball outside off, play and a miss from the batsman.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Nathan Lyon. FOUR! Innovative stuff from Nathan Lyon. Nicely executed. Full and Lyon moves across. Gets low and scoops it over short fine leg for a boundary.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Nathan Lyon. Yorker angling in on middle and leg, jammed to mid-wicket for one.
Jason Behrendorff is the last man to the crease.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Peter Siddle. OUT! Wickets falling in clusters for Australia here. The Indians are doing extremely well to pull things back in these last few overs. Full on off, Siddle lofts it over cover-point. Virat Kohli out in the deep covers a lot of ground to his left, stretches his hands out and takes a stunning catch.
Peter Siddle walks in at number 10.
Mohammed Shami to Jhye Richardson. OUT! Richardson is the man back in the hut and India pulling things back here. They have conceded only 5 runs and picked up 3 wickets in the last 2 overs. It was full length delivery around off, Richardson tries to go over covers but hits it straight to Dhawan, who takes a regulation catch and brings out his trademark celebration. Shami ends with figures of 10-0-58-3.
Mohammed Shami to Nathan Lyon. Wonderful yorker on middle stump. Lyon manages to keep it out and Richardson calls for a quick single. Lyon is confused but goes for it. Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Shaun Marsh. OUT! India have got two wickets in the last 3 balls without conceding a run. This has been an excellent over from Kumar.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Shaun Marsh. Slower one outside off once more, Marsh wants to make room and in the end can't reach to the ball. It is inside the tramline and that will be a dot ball.
Jhye Richardson walks in at number 8.
DK in fact had to come in a little to pouch that. A quickfire knock from Glenn comes to an end, two shy of his half century. A good wicket for India.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Shaun Marsh. Well bowled! A good yorker length ball, Marsh can only jam it out towards deep square leg for a single.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Glenn Maxwell. Bowls this one well outside off on a fuller length, Maxwell chases that one and hits it to cover. Would have been a wide had he left that alone.

Rohit Sharma at cover times his jump to perfection and tries to grab the ball with one hand, the right one, but fumbles and juggles two times. Cannot hold on to it. Tough chance but he saved a certain boundary. Siraj having a bad day and should have probably had his second wicket. Single taken.
Mohammed Siraj to Glenn Maxwell. In the air but safe! Full length delivery outside off, Maxwell makes room for himself and lofts it over covers. The ball falls just short of Ambati Rayudu who dives in front and does well to stop that going to the boundary. The batsmen pick up a couple.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Glenn Maxwell. A good slower one outside off on a length, Glenn goes for the huge one but completely misses the ball and fails to connect.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Glenn Maxwell. Wide! A tough call. Looked to be inside the line as Bhuvneshwar tried for a slower ball outside off. Maxwell lets it go and the ball is called a wide by the umpire. A grimace from the bowler.

Mohammed Siraj to Glenn Maxwell. FOUR! As i said, there is a lot that 'The Big Show' can do. Puts this one on a fuller length on middle, Maxwell makes room and cuts this in the air over point. No stopping that one as third man is very fine and can't come around. The 50-run stand comes up between these two.
Mohammed Siraj to Glenn Maxwell. NOT OUT! Lo and behold! The ball is seen missing leg stump. A length ball on middle and Maxwell tries to hoick it on the leg side but misses the ball. The ball takes a thin under edge as it passes the willow and is taken comfortably by MS behind the wickets. Stoinis departs for a decent 29 and India have a timely wicket once more.

Kuldeep Yadav to Usman Khawaja. OUT! Run out! A moment of brilliance from Ravindra Jadeja! India pick up another one against the run of play. Khawaja and Marsh are building a good-looking stand currently for the hosts. Finch, who is defending and playing along the ground till now, looks to go over the top of mid off with a lofted shot but the ball takes the inside edge and goes on to knock the middle stump. If you remember the previous game too, he was bowled by Kumar with a similar ball coming in. Not a good shot from the skipper, especially when he isn't in good form. India strike early!

A length ball on the pads, Kohli flicks it off the pads, times it superbly and doesn't bother to keep it down. To his dismay, it goes straight into the bucket-hands of Maxwell who is positioned there at deep mid-wicket. Looks like a lapse of concentration. Huge moment in the game.
