Australia vs India Highlights And Cricket Score 1st Match - ODI Commentary

End of Over : 50.0 AUS: 288/5

If any, the pitch slowing down could aid Australia a bit. But otherwise, it looks like a batting beauty and the hosts are probably 30-40 short. Early wickets might change the situation a bit though. Join us back at 5.35 pm local (0635 GMT) to see how the run chase envelops.

Bhuvi bowled overs 46, 48 and 50, which would otherwise have been bowled by Bumrah. Conceded 40, picking up just the wicket of Handscomb. It may or may not haunt India in this game but it surely puts Kumar's place in the ODI side in doubt. Ever since he has come back from injury in the Indian T20 league, he has never been his own self. Jadeja was excellent, choking up the opposition and so was Kuldeep, barring that last over. Ambati Rayudu bowling 2 overs showed how badly Kohli missed Kedar Jadhav and Hardik Pandya.

It is a flat deck and conceding 288 will not worry India too much. Bhuvneshwar and Khaleel's performance will, though. Shami's returns on comeback were excellent and he adds another death bowler option to India's arsenal at the World Cup, but in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, the rest of the bowlers clearly struggled for an inspiration.

Australia had three back-to-back 50-plus stands but at no point of time did it actually seem like things were getting out of hand for India. Khawaja, Marsh and Handscomb have auditioned nicely for the World Cup spot in the 'Year Of The World Cup' but the real hitting came in the final overs. There were plenty of questions raised over Stoinis being sent above Maxwell - the Victorian pair of Handscomb and Stoinis did add 68 in 59 balls, but one gets the feeling that had Maxi been swapped with Stoinis, even 320 could have been achieved.

On the whole, if you look at the toss, India losing it on a flat deck, where at least 350 is required to win, conceding 288 - is not that bad from the visiting team's perspective. The opening bowlers started off well, keeping the pressure on, reducing Australia to 41/2 inside the Powerplay but then a fightback was witnessed.

Wow. That is some sort of a target set by Australia. Not that it will worry India too much but those last 7 overs - 80/1, will disappoint them. The death bowling was not that great and fielding oh dear... not mentionable at all.

49.6 2

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Glenn Maxwell. Nope! However, it is still a very expensive one as 18 comes from it. A couple to end as Maxwell lofts it over the cover fielder. Kumar has been taken to the cleaners in his last spell, he has gone for 40 in the three overs he has bowled and only taken a wicket. AUSTRALIA END WITH 288!

49.5 4

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Glenn Maxwell. FOUR! Trademark Maxwell there! It is full and on middle, Maxwell whips it with a lot of swag, it is away from the fielder at deep mid-wicket and a boundary results. 16 from the over so far. Can they make it a 22 run over or a 20 run over?

49.4 1

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Marcus Stoinis. In the air... but the fielder takes it on the bounce. Rohit Sharma is the man, he is generally a brilliant fielder, not sure why he did not go for it. Slower ball outside off, Stoinis lofts it towards deep point. Sharma there runs in but then bails out and collects the ball on the bounce. Kumar is not happy and rightly so. The batsmen take a run.

49.3 4

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Marcus Stoinis. FOUR! Frustrating this for India. That fielder was brought in and it goes over him, that too off the edge. Length delivery and outside off, Stoinis swings but gets an outside edge over the short third man fielder. A boundary results. This is turning out to be an expensive last over.

A halt in play as there is a deep point now. The third man comes up.

49.2 0

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Marcus Stoinis. Good comeback! Bends his back on this one and bangs it short outside off, Stoinis tries to flat-bat it but is beaten by the extra bounce.

49.1 6

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Marcus Stoinis. SIX! BANG! A gift served by Kumar. A high full toss, this time Stoinis takes full toll of it as he tonks it over the mid-wicket fence. Ideal start to the over, pressure on the bowler now.

49.1 wd

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Marcus Stoinis. WIDE! Make that 9 more with 6 balls to go as Kumar bowls it wide outside off, Stoinis leaves it.

End of Over : 49 11 Runs AUS: 270/5
48.6 2

Mohammed Shami to Glenn Maxwell. 3 from the last 3 balls but still 11 from the over. A short ball this time by Shami, Maxwell somehow gets it over covers and takes two. 1 over left, 10 more needed for 280. Can they get there?

48.5 1

Mohammed Shami to Marcus Stoinis. This has been hammered down to long on but only a run. So Shami is making a good comeback here in the latter half of the over.

48.4 0

Mohammed Shami to Marcus Stoinis. A dot now! Follows the batsman, cramping him for room. Stoinis swings but gets an inside edge onto his pads. Maxwell first thinks of a run but then sends Stoinis back. Rightly so as Shami quickly got across to stop that one.

48.3 2

Mohammed Shami to Marcus Stoinis. 8 now from the 3 balls bowled. However, this was a good delivery. Full and tailing back in. Stoinis does well to flick it in the gap in the square leg region for a brace.

48.2 4

Mohammed Shami to Marcus Stoinis. FOUR! Mistimed but gets the desired result. Short and on middle, Stoinis mistimes his pull but it is in the gap in the mid-wicket region. Rayudu runs to his right, dives but can't stop it. 6 from the first two.

48.1 2

Mohammed Shami to Marcus Stoinis. Another full toss and Stoinis is not able to take full toll of it. He smashes it along the ground towards long on. Rayudu runs to his left and fumbles due to which the batsmen get two.

End of Over : 48 11 Runs AUS: 259/5
47.6 1

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Marcus Stoinis. Stoinis follows suit, pushing this through the covers for one more. 11 from the over, but included the big wicket of Handscomb. Bhuvi's figures read 9-0-48-2, having gone for 22 in his last 2.

47.5 1

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Glenn Maxwell. Outside off, pace taken off, pushed through the covers for a run.

47.4 2

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Glenn Maxwell. Another misfield. India have not been at their best on the field today. Rohit this time. Around off, Maxwell pushes it towards backward point and takes what should have been an easy single. But Rohit Sharma gets across, slides and then parries it past Khaleel Ahmed at short third man. Maxi returns for the second.

47.3 1

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Marcus Stoinis. A length ball, around middle and off, flicked through mid-wicket for a single.

Glenn Maxwell is the new man in. Around 16 balls to go, Australia would love it if he could hit a few out of the ground.

47.2 W

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Peter Handscomb. OUT! Caught! No misjudgement this time. End of a wonderful knock from Handscomb. Has given Australia something to bowl at. A short ball outside off, Peter jumps out, tries to slap it over the off side but cannot quite connect it well. Gets more height than distance and Shikhar Dhawan pockets a dolly at the extra cover boundary. 73 from 61 for the Victorian.

47.1 6

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Peter Handscomb. DROPPED, SIX! Valiant effort from Ambati Rayudu. Nearly pulled off a blinder. Had he stayed at the ropes and not come in, he would have taken the catch. A short ball, around off, Handscomb gets across and looks to pull but mistimes it. The ball goes straight to where Rayudu would have been, at long leg but because he came running in, he has to adjust. Runs across, then back, leaps but only parries it beyond the ropes.

End of Over : 47 8 Runs AUS: 248/4
46.6 1

Mohammed Shami to Peter Handscomb. Yes, he can! Just a single. 8 from the over. Outsmarts the batsman there by banging it short. Handscomb is late on the pull shot. He gets a top edge. It lands in no man's land in the square leg area.

46.5 1

Mohammed Shami to Marcus Stoinis. First poor ball in this over! A full toss on the pads, Stoinis fails to put it away as he finds the man at deep mid-wicket. A run taken. Just 7 from the over, can he end it well?

46.4 1

Mohammed Shami to Peter Handscomb. Another excellent yorker! All Handscomb can do is jam it out towards covers for a run.

46.4 wd

Mohammed Shami to Peter Handscomb. Good ball but once again it is a wide. Sees Handscomb dancing down the track and bangs it short. The ball though bounces way over his head. The umpire stretches his hands sideways.

46.4 wd

Mohammed Shami to Peter Handscomb. WIDE! That went completely wrong, however, Handscomb must have felt he missed out there. It is a full toss down the leg side, Peter swings but misses. It has been wided though.

46.3 2

Mohammed Shami to Peter Handscomb. Change of pace now! It is outside off, PH lofts it over covers, closer to the sweeper this time. The batsmen take two. 3 from 3 balls, the initial half of the over has belonged to Shami.

46.2 1

Mohammed Shami to Marcus Stoinis. Another yorker on middle, Stoinis moves his front leg out of the way and whips it towards deep mid-wicket for a single. Good two balls to begin with by Shami. Very full, difficult for the batsman to get under those.

46.1 0

Mohammed Shami to Marcus Stoinis. A top nut there. A yorker, can't put those away. Stoinis just jams it out.

Mohammed Shami returns. 8-0-27-0 so far.

End of Over : 46 11 Runs AUS: 240/4
45.6 4

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Peter Handscomb. FOUR! Perfect way to end the over. Handscomb is playing a gem here. Second in the over for Australia and Peter. This time though it is through the leg side, he walks right across, picks his spot and flicks it over the square leg fielder and into the fence. 11 from the 46th.

45.5 1

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Marcus Stoinis. Now powers his pull but straight to the man at deep mid-wicket for a single. 50-run stand up, hat-trick of fifty-run stands. However, they would have preferred this at a quicker rate. They can catch up now though.

45.4 0

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Marcus Stoinis. Back of a length on off, Stoinis keeps it out. Don't see a lot of defensive strokes after the 45th over. Strangely Stoinis just shows us one there.

45.3 1

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Peter Handscomb. Now shuffles across and flicks it stylishly but to the man at fine leg. Only a run.

45.2 4

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Peter Handscomb. FOUR! Just brilliant. So delightful this was. He uses his feet and also makes room. Bhuvi lands it on a length. Handscomb lofts it over covers and the ball races away to the fence.

45.1 1

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Marcus Stoinis. Short and outside off, Stoinis slaps it through covers for a single. Only pacers to bowl now, Australia can fancy their chances here of ending this innings well.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back on. 7-0-26-1 so far. 5 overs left... Carnage or choke?

End of Over : 45 7 Runs AUS: 229/4
44.6 0

Ravindra Jadeja to Peter Handscomb. A dot now! Top class bowling. Handscomb makes room, Jadeja follows him. Peter is cramped for room and he ends up pushing it back to the bowler. End of Jadeja too for the innings. He also finishes with excellent figures of 10-0-48-1.

44.5 2

Ravindra Jadeja to Peter Handscomb. A couple now! Uses his feet and hits it over covers, it is a little too close to long off. He ensures the batsmen get only two.

44.4 1

Ravindra Jadeja to Marcus Stoinis. Quicker and on off, Stoinis pushes it through mid off for a run. No boundaries in this over yet. Singles won't harm India.

44.3 1

Ravindra Jadeja to Peter Handscomb. Flatter and on middle, Handscomb works it towards mid-wicket and gets to the other end.

44.2 1

Ravindra Jadeja to Marcus Stoinis. A long hop, pulled through mid-wicket for a single.

44.1 2

Ravindra Jadeja to Marcus Stoinis. A short ball outside off, Stoinis punches this back to the bowler who tries to stop it with his left hand but the ball whizzes through. Shami then fumbles at long off and allows the second.

End of Over : 44 14 Runs AUS: 222/4
43.6 6

Kuldeep Yadav to Peter Handscomb. SIX! Ends the over with a bang! Brings up his fifty in style, his second in ODIs and it has come at better than a run a ball. He gets a gift to get there. Short and on middle, Peter pulls it, he connects well and the ball sails over the wide long on fence. Second maximum in the over. 14 from it. Expensive finish to Kuldeep's spell. Still good figures for him, it reads 10-0-54-2.

43.5 1

Kuldeep Yadav to Marcus Stoinis. Takes a single now by working it towards mid-wicket.

43.4 0

Kuldeep Yadav to Marcus Stoinis. Played to the mid-wicket region by the batsman.

43.3 6

Kuldeep Yadav to Marcus Stoinis. SIX! All the way! This should break the shackles. First maximum of the innings. This is tossed up on middle, Stoinis just lofts it over the long on fence.

43.2 1

Kuldeep Yadav to Peter Handscomb. Slower through the air outside off, this was nicely tossed up outside off. Handscomb goes for the sweep but is way too early into the shot. He misses and is hit on the pads. The ball rolls towards the short third man fielder. The batsmen are running a leg bye as the bowler appeals. The umpire shakes his head. The fielder has a needless shy at the non-striker's end and misses.

43.1 0

Kuldeep Yadav to Peter Handscomb. PH uses his feet but Kuldeep spots that. He bowls it short, Handscomb pushes it back to the bowler.

End of Over : 43 6 Runs AUS: 208/4
42.6 1

Ravindra Jadeja to Peter Handscomb. A short ball, around middle, pulled through mid-wicket for one.

42.5 1

Ravindra Jadeja to Marcus Stoinis. Down the leg side, flicked through the leg side for a run.

42.4 1

Ravindra Jadeja to Peter Handscomb. Drifts it down the leg and Handscomb flicks it away for a run.

42.3 2

Ravindra Jadeja to Peter Handscomb. Slower delivery by Jadeja, Peter pre-meditates the paddle sweep and hits it towards fine leg. Khaleel grabs the ball and tries to throw it but the ball slips out of his hand as he goes for a throw. Allows the batsmen to get back for the second one easily.

42.2 1

Ravindra Jadeja to Marcus Stoinis. Tosses it up on off, Marcus lofts it over mid on. A good shot there by the Aussie all-rounder, good intent but he manages to get only a single.

42.1 0

Ravindra Jadeja to Marcus Stoinis. Starts off with a slower one on off, Stonis defends it off his back foot.

Ravindra Jadeja returns as well. 8-0-35-1 so far. India choking the Aussies...

End of Over : 42 3 Runs AUS: 202/4
41.6 1

Kuldeep Yadav to Marcus Stoinis. Retains strike as he punches it to long off. So 7 from the first two overs of Powerplay 3.

41.5 0

Kuldeep Yadav to Marcus Stoinis. Another dot! This is frustrating Shane Warne in the commentary box. On the stumps, MS works it to mid-wicket. He is on 7 from 16. Not the strike rate you want your batsman to be playing at this stage.

41.4 0

Kuldeep Yadav to Marcus Stoinis. Flatter and on off, Stoinis pushes it to covers. Marcus is taking his time here. He though has to ensure he stays till the end and also covers up.

40.4 1

Kuldeep Yadav to Peter Handscomb. Uses his feet and works it to long on for a single.

Marcus Stoinis is the new man in.

37.3 W

Kuldeep Yadav to Shaun Marsh. OUT! Yes, Kuldeep can get the breakthrough and it's the set Shaun Marsh walking back to the pavilion. The chinaman flights this one up, tempting Marsh to have a go at it. The southpaw gets tempted by it and comes down the track and tries to heave it over long on. However, the bat shakes in his hand and he doesn't time it well. The ball barely carries to Rohit Sharma who is stationed at the ropes, but he runs in hard, dives and takes another good catch. A timely wicket for India, as this partnership was going at a good rate.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Shaun Marsh. Marsh now runs it down to third man and gets to the other end.

36.3 1

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Peter Handscomb. Fifty-run stand up between the two, consecutive ones for Australia. This stand though is picking up pace now, providing the much-needed impetus. Handscomb guides it down to third man and brings up that milestone. Also, he has contributed more to this stand, having scored more than 60 percent of it. Australia would like both, the partnership and him, to continue in the same manner.

36.1 1

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Shaun Marsh. On the pads, Marsh tries to flick but misses to get hit on the pads. Kumar is appealing but it is more in hope. The umpire just walks away and the batsmen take a leg bye as the ball rolls towards the off side. It seemed to be pitched outside leg, hit outside leg, missing leg and going over the top as well.

End of Over : 36 10 Runs AUS: 181/3
35.6 0

Khaleel Ahmed to Peter Handscomb. Fuller length delivery on off, Handscomb defends it off his front foot. 10 runs off this over, a good one for Australia. They need more of such overs.

33.3 1

Khaleel Ahmed to Shaun Marsh. Another edgy run! On off, Marsh tries to work it on the leg side, he ends up getting a leading edge to third man for a single.

33.2 4

Khaleel Ahmed to Shaun Marsh. FOUR! Edgy but Australia will take it. Australia need to be a little bit more aggressive and they might just be targeting the youngster. Ahmed bowls it full and outside off, Marsh has a go at it, it goes off the outer half, wide of the sweeper cover fielder and into the fence.

33.1 1

32.2 0

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Peter Handscomb. Good length on off, PH defends it very late.

32.1 0

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Peter Handscomb. Leading edge but safe! On a length around off, Handscomb tries to flick but is early into the shot. The ball hits the leading edge and balloons to the right of the bowler. However, it is away from him. Lucky escape for Peter.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back.

End of Over : 32 5 Runs AUS: 150/3
31.6 1

Mohammed Shami to Peter Handscomb. A short ball, pulled through fine leg for a single. 150 UP FOR AUSTRALIA. How much can they get in the remaining 18 overs? 275 will be a minimum target but anything less than 300 is a walk in the park for India.

Ravindra Jadeja to Peter Handscomb. FOUR! First boundary for Handscomb. Slightly fuller on off, Peter hits it hard through covers. It is in the gap, Kumar runs to his left from long off, dives but fails to stop it. Bhuvneshwar hasn't been at his best in the field today. He seems a little cautious while throwing himself onto the ground.

Khawaja's hard-working innings comes to an end. He will be disappointed he could not carry on. He tries to go for the slog sweep but misses. He was not in the position to play that shot as his head was falling over and he had taken his eyes off the ball. Hence, it hits his front pad. An appeal follows and the umpire raises the finger. Khawaja walks upto Marsh and then decides to review. Time for the replays and it shows the ball to be clipping the leg pole. Khawaja has to continue his long walk back. 20.2 0

Ravindra Jadeja to Usman Khawaja. SAFE. By a hair's breadth. Spectacular keeping from Dhoni. Quicker one from Jadeja, outside off, Usman looked to cut but missed. Now here comes the smartness from MS. He does not take the bails off immediately but waits. Waits. And waits. Then sees Khawaja losing his balance and whips the bails off. It is referred upstairs and replays show that UK did lose his balance but he did not take his feet off the ground. Dragged it in.

Is that a stumping? This could be close... Is Khawaja gone? Referred upstairs...

20.1 0

Ravindra Jadeja to Usman Khawaja. A full toss around middle, Khawaja reverse sweeps it straight to short third man.

End of Over : 20 8 Runs AUS: 91/2
19.6 1

Kuldeep Yadav to Usman Khawaja. Fifty-run stand is up between the two as Khawaja eases it to long on for a run. A very hard working partnership this one. Boundaries have been hard to come by but they have ensured they keep rotating the strike and have gone about at a good rate. The two need to continue though and make it a big one for Australia.

19.5 1

Kuldeep Yadav to Shaun Marsh. This one is a bad ball. Short and outside off, Marsh slaps it through covers and takes a run. The partnership is now one short of fifty.

19.4 4

Kuldeep Yadav to Shaun Marsh. FOUR! Lovely shot! Not a very bad delivery that. Yes it is short but there is not a lot of room on offer. Marsh still manages to cut it through point, away from the fielder in the deep for a boundary.

17.5 1

Kuldeep Yadav to Usman Khawaja. On the shorter side, Khawaja slaps it through covers and gets to the other end. Really reading the length well here, staying back to the short balls and using his feet to the flighted deliveries. Good batting by UK.

Kuldeep Yadav to Usman Khawaja. A shout but 9 times out of 10 the umpire won't be giving it out. Khawaja uses his feet and tries to flick the ball. He misses to get hit on the pads. An appeal follows but the umpire shakes his head. UK was way too far down the wicket.

Kuldeep Yadav to Usman Khawaja. FOUR! Poor ball to end! The last ball spoils the over! It is a half-tracker on middle, Khawaja goes back and pulls it through mid-wicket. It is in the gap and the ball races away. The partnership is into the 30s now.

15.5 0

Kuldeep Yadav to Usman Khawaja. Fires this outside off, maybe thinking that Khawaja would step down the wicket. He does not and UK cuts it to point.

15.4 0

Kuldeep Yadav to Usman Khawaja. Slower through the air and outside off, Khawaja shoulders arms to it. Left that with confidence, he may have picked the leg spinner there.

15.3 1

Kuldeep Yadav to Shaun Marsh. Marsh too is stepping out to great effect. He eases it down to long on and gets to the other end.

15.2 1

Kuldeep Yadav to Usman Khawaja. He is happy using his feet against Kuldeep, has done so successfully till now. He strokes it through covers for a run.

15.1 0

Kuldeep Yadav to Usman Khawaja. Brings out the reverse sweep but finds the man at backward point. Khawaja really plays that shot well. Here too he hit the middle but did not find the gap.

End of Over : 15 7 Runs AUS: 66/2
14.6 1

Mohammed Shami to Usman Khawaja. A single to end! Another short ball but this time it comes at a good height for the batsman. He gets on top of the bounce and pulls it all along the ground to the man at deep square leg for a single.

14.5 0

Mohammed Shami to Usman Khawaja. Good shot but straight to the man at covers. It is Kohli there, he is in very tight, cutting the angles. India on the attack here, not letting the Aussies take easy singles.

14.4 1

Mohammed Shami to Shaun Marsh. A good short ball! That hurries Marsh into the pull. He mistimes it through square leg for a single.

14.3 1

Mohammed Shami to Usman Khawaja. On the pads now and the batter, flicks it through mid-wicket for a run.

14.2 4

Mohammed Shami to Usman Khawaja. FOUR BYES! Rare mistake by Dhoni gives Australia bonus runs. Much-needed. This is slightly short and outside off, Khawaja goes for the pull. The ball though does not bounce as much as he expects it to. It goes beneath the bat, bounces in front of the keeper. Dhoni fails to collect and it races to the third man fence.

14.1 0

Mohammed Shami to Usman Khawaja. On a length and around middle, Khawaja tries to play it with a closed face of the bat, he closes it a touch early. Ends up getting a leading edge to the right of the bowler.

13.4 1

Kuldeep Yadav to Usman Khawaja. Kuldeep this time gives it good flight, Khawaja dances down the track and strokes it to long off for a run.

13.3 0

Kuldeep Yadav to Usman Khawaja. Another poor selection of a shot there by an Aussie batsman. This time though it does not cost him his wicket. Kuldeep bowls it flatter and quicker just outside off, Khawaja goes back to cut but misses. That was too close to play that shot. It could have taken the edge or played it on but luckily for UK none of the two happened.

13.2 0

Kuldeep Yadav to Usman Khawaja. The quicker one but the line is a little too straight. UK works it to square leg.

13.1 0

Kuldeep Yadav to Usman Khawaja. Uses his feet but does not get to the pitch of the ball, Khawaja adjusts and keeps it out.

End of Over : 13 4 Runs AUS: 56/2
12.6 0

Mohammed Shami to Shaun Marsh. Hits the length hard again on off, SM gets behind the line and defends it. So except for that one ball, this was a top class over from Shami.

12.5 0

Mohammed Shami to Shaun Marsh. Goes back to bowling length on off, Marsh this time though guides it to point.

12.4 4

Mohammed Shami to Shaun Marsh. FOUR! Poor bowling! Releases all the pressure. Not what you want to bowl after two beauties. Full and on the pads, easy pickings for Marsh as he flicks it through mid-wicket. The ball races away.

12.3 0

Mohammed Shami to Shaun Marsh. BEATEN! Twice in a row! This time though he is beaten for pace. It is on a length outside off, just outside off I should say. It pitches and then skids through. Marsh fails to bring his bat down in time and it goes close past the off pole. Excellent stuff from Shami.

12.2 0

Mohammed Shami to Shaun Marsh. BEAUTY! Just unplayable! You can only hope that does not take the edge. It is on a length and around middle, Marsh plays the original trajectory. The ball though pitches and then moves away and beats the outside edge.

12.1 0

Mohammed Shami to Shaun Marsh. On off, Marsh blocks it out.

End of Over : 12 6 Runs AUS: 52/2
11.6 1

Kuldeep Yadav to Shaun Marsh. Very full outside off, it is creamed through covers but to the man in the deep. A run taken. So an over in which Kuldeep just did not get it right comes to an end. He was very full majority of the times and short on a few occasions.

11.5 1

Kuldeep Yadav to Usman Khawaja. A little short this time, Khawaja works it around the corner and gets to the other end.

11.4 0

Kuldeep Yadav to Usman Khawaja. Once again Kuldeep is guilty of bowling a little too full, Khawaja drives it back to the bowler.

11.3 1

Kuldeep Yadav to Shaun Marsh. Marsh now times it down to long off and gets to the other end.

11.2 2

Kuldeep Yadav to Shaun Marsh. A little too full on the pads, Marsh likes it there, he flicks it through mid-wicket for two. He played that against the turn but the ball was so full that the spin was out of contention.

11.1 1

Kuldeep Yadav to Usman Khawaja. Khawaja uses his feet and eases it down to long off for a run.

End of Over : 11 5 Runs AUS: 46/2

10.4 4

Mohammed Shami to Usman Khawaja. FOUR! Crisp! A half volley and it is put away! Full and on off, Khawaja strokes it through extra cover. Kumar from mid off hares after it, he dives but he does so after the ball touches the ropes. Boundary.

10.3 0

Mohammed Shami to Usman Khawaja. A huge appeal but not given! That was very close. I believe Khawaja has got away with one here. This is pitched around the leg pole, Khawaja moves right across and tries to flick but misses. He gets hit on the pads. An appeal follows but the umpire shakes his head. Probably he feels the pitching is an issue. Shami really likes it, Dhoni is heard telling Kohli let the bowler take the call. Eventually they decide not to review. Also, it turns out to be the right decision as Hawk Eye shows it is pitching outside leg.

10.2 0

Mohammed Shami to Usman Khawaja. Back of a length on off, Khawaja.

10.1 0

Mohammed Shami to Usman Khawaja. Good length around off, Khawaja defends it onto the ground.

End of Over : 10 4 Runs AUS: 41/2
9.6 0

Kuldeep Yadav to Shaun Marsh. Loopy ball on off, Marsh strokes it back to the bowler. So the last over of Powerplay 1 accounts for 4 runs and a wicket. India will be the happier side after the first 10. Australia are 41 for 2.

Shaun Marsh is the new man in.

9.5 W

Kuldeep Yadav to Alex Carey. OUT! Kuldeep gives India the breakthrough like he has done on so many occasions and Australia have lost their 2nd wicket. Alex Carey who was looking really good out in the middle, is the man dismissed. Kuldeep pitches this one on the off stump and slightly fuller than the previous delivery. The ball spins away from Carey and he tries to cut once again. However, this is a top spinner which induces extra bounce. Also Alex is too close to the ball to cut and hence gets a thick outside edge. All the factors mentioned above describe the beauty of the ball. Now, about the catch. The thick edge flies at the rate of knotts and Rohit Sharma at first slip barely has time to react. However, he displays wonderful reflexes as he stays still, allows the ball to come and then pouches it swiftly to take a terrific catch. Carey is another batsman to fall into Kuldeep's spinning web. What a revelation this young Chinaman has been for India.

9.4 4

Kuldeep Yadav to Alex Carey. FOUR! Poor ball and it has been put away! It is short and outside off, Carey cuts it behind point and the ball races away.

9.3 0

Kuldeep Yadav to Alex Carey. Tosses it up again on middle, Carey watchfully blocks it off his front foot.

9.1 0

Kuldeep Yadav is into the attack now. Spinner for the first time today.

End of Over : 9 2 Runs AUS: 37/1
8.6 2

Mohammed Shami to Usman Khawaja. A little too straight on middle, Khawaja works it through mid-wicket for a couple. So a brace on the last ball means no maiden for Shami but still a good one.

8.5 0

Mohammed Shami to Usman Khawaja. And this one takes off! Signs of the pitch begin a little up and down? Maybe. This is shortish and outside off, Khawaja slashes at it but is done in by the extra bounce.

8.4 0

Mohammed Shami to Usman Khawaja. That stayed low! It is bowled around off and it slants away. Khawaja tries to keep it out off the back foot but is beaten by the low bounce.

8.3 0

Mohammed Shami to Usman Khawaja. Fuller in length around off, Khawaja strokes it to covers. Both the batters are not able to find the gap on their drives. This is relatively full and type of ball which should be scored off.

8.2 0

Mohammed Shami to Usman Khawaja. The inside edge probably saves Khawaja there. It is on a length and around middle, Usman tries to work it across the line, the ball hits the inside edge and goes on to hit the pads. No inside edge and he could have been an LBW candidate.

8.1 0

Mohammed Shami to Usman Khawaja. Hits the length hard around off, Khawaja defends it onto the ground.

Mohammed Shami is on.

End of Over : 8 5 Runs AUS: 35/1

7.3 0

7.2 0

Khaleel Ahmed to Alex Carey. Good ball! Length delivery outside off. The ball bounces high after pitching and Carey who tries to punch it through the offside but misses it completely due to the extra bounce on that one. He is lucky that he didn't edge that one.

7.1 1

Khaleel Ahmed to Usman Khawaja. Length delivery outside off, Khawaja guides it away to the point region for a single.

End of Over : 7 3 Runs AUS: 30/1

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Aaron Finch. OUT! Bowled! Gone right through! Test match, T20I or ODI - Aaron Finch continues to be a walking wicket. He departs cheaply again and Bhuvi roars to get his 100TH ODI SCALP. What a beauty by Bhuvneshwar! He beautifully deceives the Aussie skipper. The previous ball moved away from him but this time Kumar swings it back in, leaving Finch completely bamboozled. The ball was a bit fuller and pitched outside off. Aaron tries to defend it but the ball goes straight through the gap between the bat and pad. It's a huge wicket and the dangerous Finch is back in the hut. He has had a very bad summer so far.

He is hit on the pads and Bhuvi appeals but no one even thinks about the review.

The anthems are done and dusted and it is time for the game to begin. Alex Carey and Aaron Finch will open for the Aussies. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who had to sit out the Test series, gets a chance in this format. He will bowl with the first new ball to Carey. Let's play!

Time for the national anthems. India's first up.

Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, says that he too, would have batted first as it looks like a good wicket. But also says that the pitch should stay the same throughout the game and chasing may not be a bad option either. Adds that they are always looking to improve as a side. Aims to bowl and restrict oppositions. Indulging further, Kohli aims to keep opposition quiet in the middle overs as that could be the difference between a 360 and a 320. Admits that Rahul and Hardik will be missed as they are quality players but also says that the team has got replacements.

Australian captain, Aaron Finch, admits that Australia had a poor 2018 and their first aim would be to score well in the middle overs as they have been doing fairly well in the Powerplay and at the death. Agrees that playing spin well too is key and aims to keep wickets in hand for the final burst. On his own form, Finch says that he enjoyed the break from the Tests, going back to domestic T20 and is refreshed to return.

TOSS - Time for the spin of coin. Aaron Finch has it in his hand, TAILS is the call from Virat Kohli but it is a HEAD. AUSTRALIA OPT TO BAT FIRST.

PITCH REPORT - Mark Waugh doing the pitch report reckons that it feels very nice and hard. Observes a few cracks and reckons that spin might come into play. Informs that 331 has been the average one-day score batting first at this venue over the last few games and 4 have been won on the trot by the side defending.

PLAYING XI - Hey! Where is the toss? Gosh... have I goofed up? Naaah.... the Australian tradition of announcing a playing XI well before the game commences continues. Aaron Finch has named his line-up and JASON BEHRENDORFF is the debutant, being given the cap by the legendary Glenn McGrath. Adam Zampa and Andrew Tye are notable exclusions while Mitchell Marsh misses out due to sickness. A notable inclusion is that of Peter Siddle, who plays his first ODI since 2010. That too, was at the SCG, against Sri Lanka. India are yet to announce their playing XI.

WEATHER - Not a cloud in the sky. If you had read this around 3 days back, you would not have believed me. It was raining, it was murky, two days of a Test match barely had any play while a T20 game was washed out after a few overs. But today, there is no such forecast and for now, conditions are just as perfect to play cricket.

Let us not spoil our moods by talking about stuff off the field. After a good break, Australia vs India is back. ODIs are a format where the latter are revelling tremendously, so much so that 2015 World Cup winning captain Michael Clarke had remarked at the end of the Test series, 'I would be surprised if Virat Kohli did not have the World Cup in his hand at the end of the tournament.' Hmmm... does that mean that this is going to be a one-sided contest? They say, numbers do not lie. Australia have won just 3 out of their last 24 ODIs. The last time they played India in a bilateral series, they lost 1-4. The Indians have lost just 1 out of their last 11 one-day internationals. So you can judge for yourself.

Controversy is the favourite word for stars. Many like to avoid it, but in some point of time in life, they are engulfed in it. Hardik Pandya and Lokesh Rahul will be feeling somewhat similar right now. Having been OFFICIALLY CALLED BACK FROM THE AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND TOURS, the duo have plenty of time to reflect on what could have been. As the common saying goes - 'Speech is silver, silence is golden.'

The T20Is are done and dusted (When did that happen?) The Test series has ended around a week back. Gosh, it has been such a long tour for India that it is still continuing! After a frenetic red-ball contest, the focus shifts to white-ball cricket again. As the saying goes around, this is the 'WORLD CUP YEAR.' New Zealand and Sri Lanka have already inaugurated the season, time for the defending champions and the 'favourites', going by the talk of the town to do it. Hello and a warm welcome to the first of 3 ODIs between Australia and India. The series kicks off in Sydney.

End of Over : 50.0 IND: 254/9

That ends the SCG contest. A rare India loss, that too in an ODI. Against a triply-weakened Aussie unit. Spare a thought for Rohit Sharma though. His 10th series or tournament in a row where he has scored at least one century. But all is not lost yet as 2 ODIs are yet to be played. We now move to Adelaide, which hosts the second ODI on Tuesday, January 15, 2019. Australia will be buoyed with this win but beware of the wounded Indian Tigers. The game begins at 1.50 pm local (0320 GMT). ADIOS! TAKE CARE!

Man of the Match, Jhye Richardson, says he is happy with his performance, especially against a quality side. Credits the way India tried to come back in the game. States Kohli's wicket was very special for him, especially in a run chase. Mentions they are clear about what they have to do as a bowling unit and it came off today. Ends by saying they assessed the conditions well and bowled according to it.

Victorious Australian skipper, Aaron Finch, says he is very pleased with the performance. Admits they did get nervous when Dhoni and Rohit were batting. On his team's batting, Finch says that the plan was to bat deep as can be seen from the scorecard, to get a competitive total on the board. He feels they had a par score as the dew was not going to play a big factor. Credits the way Khawaja, Marsh and Handscomb played. Further adds they batted really well in the middle period and finished off things well. Mentions the newbies bowled really well and both of them (Behrendorff and Jhye) have a good future ahead. Ends by saying there is still a lot of room for improvement though.

Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, says they are not pleased with the way they played. Mentions they were good with the ball but were not upto the mark with the bat. Credits the way Rohit played and further adds he was supported well by Dhoni. Reckons they tried to take the game deep but the latter got out out at the wrong time. He feels they needed one more good partnership and the story could have been different. States Rayudu and Shikhar got good deliveries, he hit the ball well but was unfortunate. He adds though that those won't stop them from playing their shots. Ends by saying this is a learning curve and they hope to correct their mistakes in the games further.

Small moments. How they sometimes cost big. Bhuvi going for 40 in his last 3 overs. India losing by 34. Australia wasting a review on Rohit - did not matter but almost paid the price for it. Ambati Rayudu's review - should India have taken it? Had they not, then Dhoni could have used it to his advantage. Anyways, life is nothing without ifs and buts. Please do stay tuned for the presentation...

Wow. Australia's bowling. No Starc. No Hazlewood. No Cummins. No Coulter-Nile. No Tye. Yet they won. Quadruple wow. They were lucky to get a couple of cheap wickets but then were professional enough to build on that and not let India in. Debutant Jason Behrendorff did well to finish with a 2-fer but Jhye Richardson was the pick of the bowlers with 4/26 in his 10. Nathan Lyon did a good holding job but the early damage had helped all the bowlers, even if they went for a hit towards the end.

Rohit then tried to saviour a one-man show but eventually, the task became too monumental for him. He got no support from the others. Factor this - when Rohit was at the crease, only Dhoni and Jadeja crossed double figures.

Normally, when you have a stand taking so many balls, it cannot be broken without compensating. Dhoni and Rohit tried to change the tempo but then the former got a rough call which probably changed the game.

A good start is key to a good finish. India lacked that in this game. 1/1, 4/2 became 4/3. The visitors could not recover after that. Well, one can say they tried. Dhoni and Rohit stopped the wicket-flow, got a partnership going but that was not helping the task as the boundaries were not coming frequently. The stand was worth 137 but it consumed 171 balls.

A comfortable win for Australia in the end. Not many would have imagined this. 288 on this track, which was seeing 30-40 runs short, has actually proved to be 34 runs too many.

49.6 W

Marcus Stoinis to Mohammed Shami. OUT! Caught. The match ends. Stoinis finally gets his second. A full ball on middle, it is the slower one. Shami hits it high up in the air. All smiles in the Australian camp as THEY WIN BY 34 RUNS AND TAKE A 1-0 LEAD!

49.5 1

Kumar goes for the pull but gets a top edge, it goes towards deep backward square leg. Handscomb makes good ground to his right, dives and gets two hands to it but fails to hang on. The batsmen take a run.

End of Over : 48 11 Runs IND: 238/7
47.6 1

Marcus Stoinis to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. DROPPED! This is an absolute sitter! This should have been taken. Not sure if this drop would haunt Australia but still, the bowler will be disappointed as he could have added one more to his wicket tally. The slower ball on middle, Kumar tries to go downtown, it has more height than distance. Khawaja settles under it at long on and should have taken it but spills it. A single taken.

Peter Siddle returns. 7-0-39-0 so far.

47.5 1

Marcus Stoinis to Kuldeep Yadav. Yadav moves right across and tries to flick. It hits his thigh pad and rolls on the leg side. The batsmen run a leg bye.

47.1 4

Marcus Stoinis to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. FOUR! Handy runs but not sure this would make a difference to the outcome of the game. Short and outside off, Kumar comes down the track and slashes. He gets a top edge and it goes over the short third man fielder.

End of Over : 47 4 Runs IND: 227/7

45.5 2

Marcus Stoinis to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. DROPPED! Guess this will not matter though. A short ball, outside off, Bhuvi looks to pull but gets a top edge. It almost carries to Usman Khawaja at long on who comes running in but plonks it. Hurts his hamstring as well.

Kuldeep Yadav is the new man in.

45.4 W

Marcus Stoinis to Rohit Sharma. OUT! Caught! The SCG stands still. That is probably the final nail in the coffin. A tired Rohit Sharma walks back after a magnificent innings. No miracle tonight. He fought a lone battle but the situation demanded a lot out of him. Australia on the other hand, rejoice as they know they almost have the game in the bag. A short ball outside off, Rohit tries to pull but only manages to get a top edge. It goes high up in the air towards deep mid-wicket. Glenn Maxwell there runs in and takes a good catch.

45.3 4

Marcus Stoinis to Rohit Sharma. FOUR! JUST OVER! Much-needed boundary but one is not enough. They need at least three per over. A full toss, this time Rohit makes Stoinis pay as he lofts it over the mid off fielder and into the fence.

45.3 wd

Marcus Stoinis to Rohit Sharma. WIDE. A full toss outside off, pretty wide, Sharma lets it go. Pressure on the bowler!

44.3 0

Jhye Richardson to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Very full on middle, Kumar jams it out.

44.2 1

Jhye Richardson to Rohit Sharma. Shortish and outside off, Rohit cuts it through point and a run is taken.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar walks in next at number 8, replacing Jadeja. Just needs to keep giving the strike to Rohit. The way he is batting, he can win this single-handedly for India.

44.1 W

Jhye Richardson to Ravindra Jadeja. OUT! In the air... taken! Four-fer for Jhye. The men from Perth Scorchers are doing it for Australia. It is bowled short and outside off, Jadeja goes for the upper cut and also hits it well. It though does not go as fine as he wanted it to. Shaun Marsh at deep point, settles under it and takes an easy one. Rohit continues losing partners at one end. 76 from 35.

Marcus Stoinis to Rohit Sharma. FOUR! 10 from the last 2 balls and it ends up being an expensive over. It is slightly short and Rohit pounces on it. He pulls it through mid-wicket and the ball races away to the fence. 76 more needed in 36.

43.5 6

Marcus Stoinis to Rohit Sharma. SIX! HUGE! Spoils the over! Stoinis goes for the yorker but ends up bowling it in the slot. Rohit Sharma is seeing the ball like a football and hence won't miss out. He clears the mid-wicket fence with ease.

43.4 0

Marcus Stoinis to Rohit Sharma. A dot now! This is turning out to be an excellent over. Short and outside off, Rohit goes for the cut but is beaten by the extra bounce.

43.3 1

Marcus Stoinis to Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja makes room and Stoinis follows him. Ravindra nudges it beside the pitch. The batters go for a run, Stoinis is quick to the ball, he then shys at the striker's end with an underarm throw but misses. Replay shows, had he hit, Rohit was a goner.

42.3 6

Glenn Maxwell to Rohit Sharma. Quicker ball again and outside off, it skids through, Sharma tries to play it late but gets beaten.

41.4 2

Glenn Maxwell to Rohit Sharma. In the air... but safe! The move to get Maxwell on almost works there. This is darted outside off, Rohit tries to drag his shot over mid-wicket. He only manages to get a top edge. It goes high up in the air, the fielder from the deep mid-wicket region runs in but he can't get to it. Sharma can consider himself lucky there. Is this his night?
