Namibia vs Oman Highlights And Cricket Score 2nd Play-off Match - T20 Commentary
162 is the target for Oman to directly qualify for the 2020 WT20. Can they chase it down? Chasing has always been a bit tricky in this tournament under lights. Stay tuned...
Talking about the Omani bowling which was good for the first 15 overs, Bilal Khan and Fayyaz Butt were the chief destroyers. Bilal finished with a 4-fer, the only bowler escaping punishment while every other bowler got the stick. The last 6 overs yielded 79, while the first 14 went for just 82!
On the wicket, Smit says that the wicket was little tacky early on. On his power, Smit says that he practices a lot to power the ball hard. Adds that the ball was not coming nicely early on but once the ball became old, shot making was easy. Smit says that he is hopeful that the bowlers will execute their plans well and finish on the winning side.
Actually, it was all Oman for the first 15 overs. They kept Namibia under the cosh, did not give too many balls and kept picking up wickets. They had the African side reduced to 69/5 in the 13th over but then, a counter-attacking stand from Smit and Williams changed the complexion of the game. They added 83 in just 40 balls and all of a sudden, Oman started to get very loose in the field. Smit himself scored 59 from 25, which had 3 fours and 5 sixes. Here he is, talking to Dirk Nannes.
162 to win then for Oman. Have Namibia got enough? The pitch is a good one to bat on, no doubt, but with swing available under lights, this might be a difficult ask for the Omani batsmen.

PITCH REPORT - Robert Key looking at the pitch observes that this is the same one which hosted the Netherlands-Oman game. Feels that it is still good for everyone, with the short or back of a length being the key. Ends by saying that batsmen need not go into a shell as this is one of the best pitches in the tournament.
Zeeshan Maqsood, on the other hand, is happy to be bowling first because he feels he knows this pitch well. Agrees that Namibia have a strong batting unit but also believes that Oman need to stick to their own strengths. On being asked whether Namibia have a slight advantage because of their big win here in their last game, Maqsood says that it might be a good thing for them but then this is a crunch game, so everyone will be under pressure. Informs that his team has made one change, with Fayyaz Butt coming in for Kaleemullah.
Namibian captain, Gerhard Erasmus, says that the reason to bat first is because of the formula of putting on scoreboard pressure - bat first and bat big. Believes that the ground is more or less the same from all sides while the pitch is neutral but that does not alter their bowling plans. Feels that if they follow the same processes, they will be privileged to go to Australia. Informs that the players have been doing well for the last 4 games, hence the team is unchanged tonight as well.
Oman (Playing XI) - Jatinder Singh, Khawar Ali, Aqib Ilyas, Aamir Kaleem, Zeeshan Maqsood(c), Suraj Kumar(wk), Sandeep Goud, Khurram Nawaz, Mohammad Nadeem, Fayyaz Butt (IN FOR KALEMULLAH) and Bilal Khan.
Namibia (UNCHANGED Playing XI) - Stephan Baard, Nikolaas Davin, JP Kotze, Craig Williams, Gerhard Erasmus(c), JJ Smit, Zane Green(wk), Christi Viljoen, Jan Frylinck, Bernard Scholtz and Ben Shikongo.
TOSS - Namibia have won the toss and ELECTED TO BAT FIRST.
A warm welcome to the second match of the day and the second match of the Playoffs between Namibia and Oman in Dubai. Earlier in the day, the Dutch progressed to the semis and the 2020 WT20 with a win over the hosts. Who will join them tonight? Namibia come into this win with a thrashing win over Singapore while Oman suffered a loss to Jersey in their final match. Momentum? Or a new day, new winner? Let's hope for a good clash.
Right! First PNG. Then Ireland. Then Netherlands. And now, Namibia. Four teams have qualified for the 2020 WT20 in Australia. UAE and Oman have got another chance when they play on Wednesday. Can they grab that opportunity? Join us for another double-header with Scotland meeting UAE at 2.10 pm local (1010 GMT), followed by the Hong Kong-Oman clash at 7.30 pm local (1530 GMT). Do join us. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Victorious Namibian skipper, Gerhard Erasmus, credits the team and staff for the success. Erasmus, says that at 69/5, they needed someone to step up and they had a couple of guys do it. Adds that the Powerplay didn't go their way but Williams kept the run score ticking. Mentions that he wants more people to play the sport back home and adds that that will happen once this side does well on the world stage. Thanks the entire staff for looking after the squad.
Oman captain, Zeeshan Maqsood, says that it was a tough game for them. On their superb start, Maqsood says that the innings from Khawar was superb. Says that the ball was not coming on the bat well and hence they could not rotate the strike well. On their match on Wednesday, Zeeshan says that they will try their best to make it to the World Cup. Adds that they will look after where things went wrong for them.
JJ Smit gets the MAN OF THE MATCH award for his superb innings. He now chats with Ian Bishop. On the entire proceedings today, Smit says that he is a relieved man right now. Mentions that he has been on the wrong side of the line on a few occasions earlier. Adds that the side never gives up and keeps working hard. On their celebration, Smit says that people back home believed in their unit. Points that people across the world sent them good wishes and they have done it. On his batting, JJ says that the batsman needs to stay focused. Adds that there could always be dots but at the same time, poor balls will come too.
Oman will be looking back at that first innings and thinking, what went wrong at 69/5. How come the bowling, which had conceded just 82 in 14 overs, conceded almost the same number of runs in the next 6 overs. Thoughts to ponder. JJ Smit came in at number 7 and blasted 59 from just 25 balls - that is how deep Namibia bat. That influx of Albie Morkel in the coaching staff has been productive, hasn't it? Here comes the presentation.
Excellent bowling by Namibia. They stuck to their guns and even though they were taken to the cleaners during the Powerplay, they stuck to their guns. It was a matter of one wicket and that is what happened. Scholtz and Erasmus stifled them after that second wicket, sharing combined figures of 8-0-33-6.
Normally, in this tournament, whenever 150 has been crossed, very few times has it been chased. And tonight, was not one of the few. Namibia's acceleration with the bat in the final 6 overs meant that a dangerous score had been reached from Oman's point of view. There was a brief partnership of 57 for the second wicket when Oman had a bit of a chance but once Ilyas was dismissed, the floodgates were opened. After that, it was a procession.
The entire Namibian squad is on the ground, hugging their mates who played this match. Elation for them. They have become the fourth team to get their name etched in the WT20 participants in 2020. Oman look disconsolate. They have another chance left though.
