Oman skipper, Zeeshan Maqsood, says that the bowler's are doing a good job. Further adds that they needed a good knock from the batters today and they played brilliantly. Says that if the bowlers do their job the batters have to do their job as well. States that even though they have qualified for the next round, the team will not be taking anything lightly and play with all their efforts in the next match.
Canada skipper, Navneet Dhaliwal, says that credit goes to the Oman batters in the way they played. Does not discredit his bowlers but instead gives credit to the opposition in the way they approached the game. On being asked about Saad Bin Zafar's injury, the skipper informs that he cannot bat still as he is just 60-65 percent fit. On their match with UAE, Navneet adds that, they will be taking a day off, come back together and will start fresh.
Man of the Match, Jatinder Singh, says that they were looking to play each ball as it came and not look too far forward. Adds that he and Aqib Ilyas were regularly chatting in the middle and that they were looking at breaking the target down in small totals and achieve them.
Earlier in the day, Srimantha Wijeyeratne set Canada on course to a huge total but they stumbled in the end as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Khawar Ali and skipper Zeeshan Maqsood were the star performers for Oman as they piled the pressure late on in the innings.
The Canada bowling was toothless and no one could do much to stop the Omani onslaught. Their bowlers were smashed all over the park and none of the bowlers had an economy of even under eight. Jeremy Gordon took the wicket of Ali early on but the next wicket arrived too late for Canada.
The innings for Oman started with a bit of a scare as they lost the wicket of Khawar Ali in just the second over. However, from there on, Aqib Ilyas and Jatinder Singh took charge of the game. They made a 126-run stand at a blistering pace and knocked Canada out of the game. Aqib Ilyas and Jatinder Singh both made their half tons and took them to the brink of victory before Ilyas had to depart. However, skipper Zeeshan Maqsood came to the crease and finished things off to make sure Oman win the game with 8 wickets in hand.
Oman have chased down the target of 145 runs with 31 balls to spare and this has rubber stamped their place for the first group stage of the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup.
