India vs New Zealand Highlights And Cricket Score 4th Match - ODI Commentary
So, 180 is the target for the Kiwis in this warm-up game. It will be interesting to see whether they play aggressive or go slow and give chance to most of their batters. India will be looking to try out their bowling combinations. Should be a good watch. Join us for the second innings.
Trent Boult is caught for a chat on the sidelines. He says that it was nice to get out there and bowl after a while. He felt that it was decent swing out there and it gave him confidence even though it is a warm-up game. States that he tried to make best use of the conditions. He mentions that India has a lot of good batsmen and they know how to win tournaments, so this is a pleasing performance for him. Signs off by admitting that it would be nice if these kind of conditions would be present going ahead in the tournament as well along with some more carry as well!
As for New Zealand bowling, 7 bowlers were used in total but there were only 6 overs of spin and they went wicketless. The seamers though were impressive. Trent Boult got 4, whereas all-rounder James Neesham picked 3. Southee, Grandhomme and Lockie all got one wicket apiece. Time for an interview...
Not the performance India would have wanted in their preparation. As predicted by the skippers during the toss, it was a tough pitch to bat on especially at the start. India lost wickets at regular intervals. The openers did not stay long. Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya were looking good out in the middle but could not convert their starts. Ravindra Jadeja was the star with the bat. He added a 62-run stand with Kuldeep Yadav for the 9th wicket and his much-needed fifty took India to a competitive total.

Trent Boult to Rohit Sharma. OUT! The ball is clipping the top of the stumps! Rohit Sharma is a gonner but he does not take the review with him, fortunately for India. A length ball on middle and swinging inward this time, instead of straightening. Rohit after missing the first ball on the outside, feels this one will do the same and plays down the wrong line. He misses the ball and gets rapped on the back pad, after being grazed on the front pad first. The bowler appeals and the umpire takes his time but the finger eventually comes up. There is a discussion between Rohit and Dhawan post which the former takes the review but that does not save him. Not the start that he or India would have wanted but just what the Kiwis would have liked!
Review time! Rohit has been adjudged LBW here but has taken the review. Looked pretty adjacent here and it could be a waste of a review!
Trent Boult to Rohit Sharma. Jaffa first up! Unplayable! A length ball on off and straightens after landing. Rohit does well to not follow the ball which would have perhaps made the ball take his outside edge.

PITCH REPORT - Shaun Pollock, the pitch expert for today, says that the surface is extremely green, has a lot of moisture on it. He feels it will be bowler-friendly and there might not be too many pitches like these in the rest of the tournament. Reckons that considering it is a warm-up game, the captains might want to test their batsmen and check how they fare in these conditions.
New Zealand skipper, Kane Williamson agrees with what his counterpart says regarding the surface, feels that it will be a challenge for the top order early on. Informs that everyone is excited to get back into the one-day mode after coming into this from off-season. Mentions that they will be going in with 13 as well with Tom Latham missing out due to the finger injury and Matt Henry also sidelined.
India skipper, Virat Kohli says that the pitch has some grass on it and he wants to put his batsmen under some challenging conditions, thus decided to bat first. He reckons that if it remains sunny, the deck will be flat and good to bat on but he hopes that there is some seam on it. Wants all the players to have some game time. He states that match practice is the best kind of practice. Kohli informs that India will try to give game time to 13 players today with Kedar Jadhav and Vijay Shankar not participating today.
TOSS - Kane Williamson calls Tails but the coin comes down as Heads. India win the toss and Virat Kohli decides that they will be batting first!
Welcome to this warm-up game between India and New Zealand. The match might not have the significance that the real games will have but these are games that will allow the fringe, 'maybe in, maybe out' players to prove themselves and seal a spot come their first group stage game in the World Cup. Whichever player out of the 15 that feature today from either squad, would look to perform well not only to seal their spot but also to boost their confidence before the mega-event. Toss and pitch report to follow...
End of the first warm-up games for these two sides. India will now wait for Bangladesh in their next warm-up game whereas New Zealand will face West Indies. There though is time for those two. On Sunday, South Africa will go up against West Indies and Pakistan will face Bangladesh. Though if you want more cricket right now, there is also a warm-up game going on between Australia and England which is turning out to be quite interesting. Switch tabs and follow the same. Goodbye from us! Cheers.
Victorious New Zealand skipper, Kane Williamson says that the new ball had something early on that surface and this game it was about the pacers. He hopes that the next match maybe, it will be possible to try spin some more. He states that the wicket was a bit on the drier side but the green grass allowed for some seam movement. He admits this was a really good exercise for them . Even though he states that there is not the same intensity but so much to gain out of these warm-up games. On the change of openers, Kane says that Henry is volatile and can bat at different places whereas Munro is known to be destructive at the top. On his and Ross Taylor's form, the Kiwi skipper says it felt good to score runs against a good side like India and stitch a partnership.
India skipper, Virat Kohli says that it was a good challenge for their batsmen. He reckons that in overcast conditions and with the wicket having something in it, it won't be easy so this was an important experience. He applauds the good effort from lower order to take them to the total of 179 after at one stage, it looked they would not get there. Kohli feels that there was not much help from the wicket in the second innings. He takes positives from the way in terms of how Jadeja, Dhoni and Hardik performed. The Indian skipper also states that they bowled well in the second half and thinks it is about hitting the right areas going ahead in the tournament as well. He mentions that it is important to be good on the field and take half-chances while also being good in all 3 aspects of the game.
Ross Taylor says that he had felt rusty the last couple of days but the warm-up games are thus very important. He feels that if the ball swings like this, then all the talk about the big scores will be quashed. Reckons it was a good game this one and that the next one against West Indies will also be a very important one in their lead-up to the opening group stage match against Sri Lanka.
Earlier in the day, Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat first. Their innings did not get off to a good start as they kept losing wickets regularly. Jadeja's half century took India to a respectable total and gave them something to bowl at. James Neesham and Trent Boult were the stars of the match picking up 3 and 4 wickets respectively. Stay tuned for the presentations.
As for India's bowling, 7 bowler's were used in total. All the six front line bowlers and the all-rounder Hardik Pandya had a go with the ball. Jasprit Bumrah was the most impressive bowler. Giving away just 2 runs and picking up a wicket in his four overs. Hardik Pandya, Chahal and Jadeja too got into the wicket column with one each.
Chasing 180, the Kiwis did not get off to the start they would have wanted as Colin Munro departed early. Kane Williamson then steadied the ship along with Martin Guptill. Though the latter could not convert his start. He was then joined by the experienced Ross Taylor. The duo added 114-run stand for the third wicket with both getting their respective fifties. The duo could not finish it off for their side as Williamson departed after the team total got past 150 and Taylor got out when the team was just a run shy from victory. In the end it was a good day for New Zealand.
A stroll in the park here for New Zealand. Though they lost a wicket early on they never looked in danger in this chase. Defending 179 in any surface was always going to be difficult and it was no different here.
