Zimbabwe vs West Indies Highlights And Cricket Score Super Sixes - 5 Match - ODI Commentary

End of Over : 50.0 ZIM: 289/10

We will have to wait and see whether the hosts, along with the crowd support will book their berth for the World Cup or will Windies chase the big total down? Join us in a short while for the chase.

Windies will be disappointed seeing the run which they have to chase. Their bowlers weren't consistent enough apart from their skipper who ended with figures of 10-0-35-4. Kemar Roach and Keemo Paul had wickets against their names too but gave away too many runs as compared to their skipper.

Taylor was the man to the rescue for the hosts, as his 138-run knock powered Zimbabwe's innings. Williams, Ervine and Raza did well to chip in with some useful contributions. Some decent batting towards the end helped them to take their score close to the 300-run mark.

Zimbabwe will be mighty pleased by the score which they have put on board, although they could have ended in a better way. Deciding to bat first, Zimbabwe did not start well as they lost two quick wickets. Mire and Taylor were looking good in the middle as they were building a good partnership. However to the dismay of the hosts, the former was hit on the helmet by Roach's bouncer and had to go back retired hurt.

Brendan Taylor is caught up for a quick interview. Says that he was a bit nervous upfront. Mentions that he wanted to spend some time in the middle and then take it over. Emphasized the importance of partnerships and adds that they wanted to work on it. Further says that they were not thinking too far ahead and is very happy with the way they ended. Signs off by saying that it's going to be a tough, tough chase.

Zimbabwe playing XI - Cephas Zhuwawo, Solomon Mire, Hamilton Masakadza, Brendan Taylor (WK), Sean Williams, Craig Ervine, Sikandar Raza, Graeme Cremer (C), Tendai Chisoro, Kyle Jarvis, Blessing Muzarabani.

Windies playing XI - Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Marlon Samuels, Shai Hope (WK), Rovman Powell, Jason Holder (C), Ashley Nurse, Keemo Paul, Devendra Bishoo, Kemar Roach.

Dirk Nannes has his say on the pitch - One side has grass and other side is bare. Adds that he expects this to stay the same through out the game but reckons that there will be a little bit of nip and turn.

Jason Holder, Windies captain - Starts by saying that it is not a bad toss to lose. Reckons that they are in good spirit coming into this game. Adds that they had a bad game against Afghanistan, but prior to that they have been doing well. Ends by saying that they have two changes in their side, Bishoo and Roach come in for Brathwaite and Miller.

Graeme Cremer, Zimbabwe captain - It has been working for them and will look to put runs on board. Reckons that in the second innings it will slow down a bit and they have got good spinners in their squad to add on the pressure. Adds they will look to take one game at a time and are hungry to win this encounter too. Ends by saying that they are unchanged from the last game.

TOSS - Zimbabwe win the toss and elect to bat first.

Hello and welcome to the Harare Sports Club, for the 5th Match of the Super Sixes stage. It is a clash between Zimbabwe and Windies. The hosts are currently placed at the top of the table and will look to continue their unbeaten run. A win here could probably seal their berth at the World Cup. On the other hand, the Windies, placed third, were having a golden run in the qualifiers as they also were unbeaten. They will look to pull up their socks after their defeat against Afghanistan. A loss here for them doesn't mean that their hard work will go in vain, as they will have one more chance to make their way. However, they will want to forget their last defeat and get back to winning ways. Stay tuned as we bring to you the toss and team updates shortly.

End of Over : 49.0 WI: 290/6

That's all from this exciting encounter. It surely entertained one and all. The fact that Zimbabwe didn't given up till the end made it worth watching. In spite of winning this, Windies would like to get more clinical with their overall game. Next up, Afghanistan will face UAE tomorrow in a crucial match. We look forward to your company at 0930 local (0730 GMT). Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!

Graeme Cremer, Zimbabwe captain starts by saying that they were pretty happy with the target they set for the Windies. Adds that his spinners have been doing well so far in the competition so it was a tough call to take them off early. Credits Marlon Samuels and Shai Hope for the way they batted and more or less sealed the deal for Windies. States that it would have been nice to win today, but will embrace the must-win game against UAE and come out firing against them.

Windies captain, Jason Holder starts by saying that it was a team effort and they pulled back nicely. Praises Taylor for his knock. Adds that he was pleased with this game and that everyone put up their hands to get the job done. Ends by saying that they held their nerves nicely till the very end.

Man of the Match, Marlon Samuels starts by saying that it was a special team effort and they continued to believe in themselves. Reckons that it was a good wicket but they believed that they could chase it down. Adds that Hope is his favourite batsman and they needed to build a partnership together in that situation. Ends by saying that after his dismissal he was expecting Hope to take them home but still is pleased that they ended the game with a win.

The hosts were not up to the mark with their bowling and Graeme Cremer also was found wanting in his captaincy. He didn't show any urgency when the duo of Samuels and Hope got settled and kept feeding them spin. In the hindsight, had he brought his pacers a little early, things could have panned out a bit differently. Also, his punt to bowl Sean Williams in the 49th over didn't pay off and bowling Kyle Jarvis then could have taken this match into the last over. Anyway, a bad day in the office and they slip to the number two spot with Windies going on top.

Just when the game looked to be done and dusted, the hosts sniffed a chance after removing both Samuels and Hope in a space of six balls. The batsmen following didn't shy away from swinging their bat but it came with a price as Windies lost another couple of wickets in quick succession. Zimbabwe took it close towards the end but the pair of Rovman Powell and Ashley Nurse kept their cool to score the remaining runs with an over remaining.

Chasing a stiff target, Windies got off to a good start but then lost Chris Gayle. It didn't bother them much though as Evin Lewis and Shai Hope raised a 72-run stand to keep the chase on track. Their position was further strengthened after the big century partnership between Marlon Samuels and Hope. The former, in particular, started cautiously but then pressed on the accelerator. Due to his knock, the asking rate always remained under control.

Terrific win for Windies! Things got a little too close for comfort but they have pulled it off. The usually noisy Harare Sports Club is very quiet at the moment, understandably so but nothing can be taken away from the way the visiting team scaled down the target. The players from both sides are shaking hands and exchanging pleasantries. Spare a thought for Brendan Taylor, his outstanding knock has gone in vain.

Ashley Nurse walks in next. A slip in place for the new man.

45.4 W

Graeme Cremer to Shimron Hetmyer. OUT! Ohhh, yes Cremer has picked another wicket here! Surely making amends. A sharp stumping done by Brendan as he too makes up for that dropped catch. The Zimbabwe skipper hurls in a lovely googly again, lands it around middle and it curls away after landing. Hetmyer kneels to nail his shot over the leg side but misses. In the process, his back leg is dragged out and Taylor is quick to remove the bails. He is very confident and the square leg umpire goes upstairs. The replays find Shimron short. Are West Indies bottling yet another chase? 25 needed off 26 balls.

Raza dives in front and takes a blinder. Hope is dismissed just at the time when Windies wouldn't want him to. Is there a twist in the tale?

Sikandar Raza has taken a stunner! But is it a clean catch? This could be a massive moment in the game. Hope is the batsman in question.

Muzarabani bowls it with a scrambled seam outside off and Samuels tries playing it down to third man. He gets a thick outside edge behind and Taylor dives across to his right to take an excellent catch. A nicely compiled knock by Samuels comes to an end. His 135-run stand with Hope has certainly handed the upper hand to his team. 45 needed off 37 balls. Too little too late? Can Zimbabwe still count their Blessing?

43.4 4

Blessing Muzarabani to Marlon Samuels. FOUR! Bang! Blessing dishes out a slower full ball outside off, Samuels picks up the variation in a trice and bludgeons it back past the bowler for a boundary. No chance for the fielders in the deep.

43.1 4
