India vs West Indies Highlights And Cricket Score 34th Match - ODI Commentary
269 is the target for West Indies if they want to stay alive in the tournament. The pitch is not the easiest ones to score. It will be a tough ask for the West Indies batsmen against the Indian bowlers. Join us in a while for West Indies' reply.
Roach says that the pitch played a bit slow early on, hence they tried to bowl as full as possible. Feels that they will take this score. Is happy to be playing whenever called upon for the West Indies. Admits that they were aiming to get into India's brittle middle order. On Dhoni's missed stumping, Roach says that such things happen in the game but feels that 268 is pretty under-par and backs his side to chase it down.
As for West Indies bowling, Kemar Roach was the pick of the bowlers picking up 3 wickets. Cottrell and Holder bowled well too and bagged 2 apiece. Allen too bowled well but did not get any wickets. Oshane Thomas though had a day to forget. Not only did he go wicketless but was also taken to the cleaners. In his 7 overs he gave away 63 runs. Right then, Mike Atherton is down doing a quick chat with Kemar Roach.
After winning the toss, Virat Kohli decided to bat first on a sunny day. They did not get off to a great start, losing Rohit Sharma early but Kohli and Rahul steadied the ship with their 69-run stand. Rahul once again could not convert his start, Shankar and Kedar too did not last long. Kohli though kept scoring from one end. He was later joined by Dhoni. The duo added another vital stand. Kohli though could not convert his fifty into a hundred and was out against the run of play. Hardik Pandya then accelerated the scoring with his 38-ball 46. Dhoni played a slow knock but turned it around in the last over, scoring 16 runs off the last over and getting to his 72nd ODI fifty in the process.

Informs that Sunil Ambris and Fabian Allen come in for Evin Lewis and Ashley Nurse. On the team's performance, Holder says that they are getting closer and closer to playing a complete game and hopes to produce another good performance today.
Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, says that the decision to bat is because of the wicket looking hard. Adds that the Indians have two wrist spinners and Kedar Jadhav plays a good role as well. Feels that in the second half, the spinners will come into play. On the batting plans, Kohli says that understanding the situation is the key, add 50-60 runs and then build on it and not throw it away. For West Indies, it is going to be Sheldon Cottrell who will start the proceedings with the first new ball. He took two wickets in his very first over against New Zealand. Can he do something similar again?
Both set of players are out in the middle for their respective national anthems. First up, it will be India's who play this game as the away side, followed by West Indies'. We are just a few moments away from the first ball being bowled in this game.
WEATHER REPORT- It is bright and sunny out here. It was raining yesterday but today there are no clouds as of now. Let's hope it stays this way.
West Indies (Playing XI) - Chris Gayle, Sunil Ambris (IN FOR EVIN LEWIS), Shai Hope(wk), Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder(c), Carlos Brathwaite, Fabian Allen (IN FOR ASHLEY NURSE), Kemar Roach, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas.
India (Unchanged Playing XI) - KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli(c), Vijay Shankar, MS Dhoni(wk), Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah.
West Indian captain, Jason Holder, says that he was also looking to bat first as looking at the wicket, if there is anything, it will come only in the first half an hour.
Informs that there is no change in the team which played against Afghanistan.
TOSS - The captains and the match referee are all in readiness for the toss. West Indies skipper, Jason Holder has the coin in hand. Up it goes, Indian skipper, Virat Kohli calls Heads and it comes down as Heads. INDIA OPT TO BAT.
PITCH REPORT - Mike Atherton and Ian Bishop are the pitch analysts for the day. Atherton says it is the same pitch used between West Indies vs New Zealand. Informs us the short boundaries are on the square but reckons the dimension won't play a big part as it is an even ground. Ian Bishop from the other end of the pitch, looks at it and says the pitch has a few scratches as there are bowlers' foot mark on it as the last game played here was on Saturday. Informs that in the previous game few balls turned in the latter stage of the game between West Indies and New Zealand. Bishop feels if a bowler has pace then he can extract some movement from the surface. Also says with the sun beaming out the captain winning the toss should bat first.
Welcome to the coverage of match 34 of World Cup 2019. India take on West Indies today in what is a very vital clash for both sides for completely different reasons. India, with a win here will get closer to qualify for the semi-final. The Men in Blue come into this one on the back of a thrilling win against Afghanistan. It was their bowlers who took them over the line in that game. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who missed out the last game due to injury was back in training. If he's fit, it will be interesting to see whether he replaces hat-trick hero, Mohammad Shami, someone else or is left out of the playing XI. West Indies, on the other hand, need to win this one in order to keep their hopes alive in this tournament. A loss here will see Jason Holder's side become the third team after Afghanistan and South Africa to officially be out of contention for a semi-final berth. They will miss the services of Russell who has been ruled out of the tournament. Will West Indies tinker with the playing XI that lost a nail-biting game against New Zealand? Only time will tell. The Caribbean side can blow out any team if and when on song. Can they upset India and stay alive in the competition or will India be the only unbeaten side in the tournament? Stay tuned to find out as the toss is not far away.
First Afghanistan. Then South Africa. Now, West Indies. Three teams knocked out. Australia qualified. The other three spots are still up for grabs though India and New Zealand almost have one leg in the semi-final. Friday, June 28, 2019 sees Sri Lanka take on South Africa at Chester-le-Street at 10.30 am local (0930 GMT). ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Victorious Indian captain, Virat Kohli, on being asked about Dhoni's batting, says that the latter knows what he is doing. Adds that everyone has off days and the change room backs him. Further says that when one needs 10-15 runs at the end, Dhoni knows how to get those with the tail, something which boosted the team today, as they were aiming for 250. Stresses that the unit has guys who play positive and have their brand of cricket but Dhoni is one person in the middle who stands there and sends out a message as to what is a par score on any wicket. Calls him a legend of the game and hopes that he continues to perform similarly. Looking at India's last 2 wins, Kohli reflects that the matches have not gone according to plan, but they have found ways to win. Cites the excellent fielding which demonstrates excellent body language. Firmly states that the team believes that it can win from any position.
West Indies captain, Jason Holder, lauds his bowlers for restricting India and laments the poor show with the bat. On Dhoni's missed stumping, Holder admits that they did not seize the moment but adds that they would have taken 268 on any day. Adds that the team has let itself down significantly and feels the bowlers did their best but the fielding was very poor and the batting was very inconsistent. Agrees that the West Indies need to improve in this format, though stresses that there are plenty of positives in the dressing room. Praises the youngsters for giving it their all when asked of them.
VIRAT KOHLI HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Says that he cannot complain about his side at all and is thrilled with the fact that India have become number 1 in ODI cricket. On the improved batting performance in this game, Kohli is happy that India managed to get to 270 from 150/4, something which was not done against Afghanistan. Praises Hardik and Dhoni for finishing things off well. On his advice to his team mates, Virat says that it is not his business to advice others because everyone would have his own gameplan. He is happy to have contributed to the team's win and hopes to keep performing consistently.
Earlier in the day, on a slow pitch, India struggled to get to 268. They had two half centurions in Kohli and Dhoni and a fine knock from Hardik. They did struggle but then the total proved to be more than enough. Please stay tuned for the presentation...
Fantastic bowling performance by the Indians. Just too good for the Caribbeans. Shami and Bumrah set the tone upfront and then once the sole 50-plus run stand was broken between Ambris and Pooran, the middle order was run through by easily. Only the second time that an INDIAN HAS TAKEN CONSECUTIVE 4-WICKET HAULS IN ODIS, Mohammed Shami finished with 4/16. Everyone else who bowled, barring Jadhav, got a wicket at least.
Nothing much to write about the batting. They struggled to score runs after the Indians choked them with the new balls. The highest score was 31, which shows that no one was allowed to settle. Today, one cannot complain that they threw it away. The batsmen took their time, dug in, but just could not get anything going their way.
Comprehensive win for the Indians. This was always expected. West Indies are best when chasing but when Gayle and Hope departed early, there was barely anything left. WEST INDIES HAVE BEEN KNOCKED OUT OF THE 2019 WORLD CUP.
