India vs Australia Highlights And Cricket Score 14th Match - ODI Commentary

End of Over : 50.0 IND: 352/5

Anyone interested in records? Well, Australia fans might be. They will have to create one if they have to chase this down as it will be the highest total ever chased down at this venue. Can the batting salvage something out of this torrid day for the Aussies? We shall find out in a while.

Sanjay Manjrekar is taking Shikhar Dhawan's interview. Dhawan says he played very smartly and calmly. Adds that he enjoys playing on this ground, having a good record here. Mentions he is happy with the century but more than that he is happy with the score they have got. States he plays every game with the same intent and it is just a coincidence that he plays well in ICC tournaments. He reckons they have enough runs on the board and they have a good bowling side and with all their experience, they should come out on top.

When one gets to know that Glenn Maxwell outbowled the main spin bowler, it means that Australia are in big trouble. A bad, bad day in the field for the Aussies, with the bowlers struggling for rhythm and movement and the fielders not supporting them. Plenty of misfields added to the disappointment and the dropped catches by Alex Carey just capped it off. Pat Cummins was the only bowler who looked threatening, else India might have even reached 400.

Rohit and Dhawan piled on the agony for the Aussies, with a 127-run opening stand and even after it was broken, Kohli and later, Pandya kept the heat on. Hardik was dropped on 0 by Carey and guess that may have cost the Aussies at least 20-25 runs. Every batsman in the top 5 contributed nicely to take the score past 350. A terrific team batting display where the openers set the tone and the middle order capitalized. Dhawan was fluent in his century while Rohit will feel that he missed the opportunity to get a massive score.

After electing to bat on a supposedly slow deck, which is projected to get even slower, India got off to a sedate start. At 41/0 in the 11th over, it seemed like Australia had things under control but this is where India are so good. Making up for lost time. The next 10 overs went for 70 runs and the charge was on.

116/3 in the final 10 overs. Powerful, brutal batting by India. A certain Alex Carey would be wondering whether things would have been different had he not dropped Hardik and Dhoni on 0. India have arrived at the World Cup.

49.6 4

Marcus Stoinis to KL Rahul. FOUR! Rahul finishes the innings in style. Full toss around off, Rahul gets down on one knee and sweeps it over mid-wicket for a boundary. Takes the total past 350. 14 runs and 2 wickets off the last over. INDIA FINISH OFF WITH 352/5 OFF THEIR 50 OVERS.

Kedar Jadhav walks out to the middle.

49.5 W

Marcus Stoinis to Virat Kohli. OUT! Second wicket in the final over for Stoinis. Kohli cannot see off the innings. Rahul goes for it even though he knew it was a very dangerous run and he was at the wrong end. Maxwell throws it at the bowler's end. Stoinis feels it will hit the stumps so he let's it go but the ball misses the stumps.

KL Rahul is the new man in!

49.1 W

Marcus Stoinis to MS Dhoni. OUT! Brilliant catch from Stoinis. The idea to bowl wide outside off to Dhoni has worked. He bowls a low full toss outside off, on which he rolls his finger. Dhoni looks to hit it straight but it does not come off the middle of his bat. It comes off the lower half of his bat. It goes to the right of Stoinis. He puts his right arm out and takes an excellent one-handed catch.

End of Over : 49 13 Runs IND: 338/3

46.1 6

Mitchell Starc to Virat Kohli. SIX! How beautiful was that? Probably the shot of the day! Starc bowls it very full on off, Kohli leans into it and just lifts it over covers. The ball carries all the way over the fence. Ideal start to the over for India.

End of Over : 46 8 Runs IND: 301/3
45.6 0

Pat Cummins to MS Dhoni. A dot to end a decent over by Cummins! Just the 8 from it and also an important wicket. Back of a length on off, it is pushed to covers. End of Cummins with the ball tonight. He finishes with figures of 10-0-55-1. Not such a bad day for him.

The fans are up on their feet as MS Dhoni walks out at number 5.

45.5 W

Pat Cummins to Hardik Pandya. OUT! No fifty for Pandya but an excellent cameo from him comes to an end. Made use of the life he got brilliantly. Cummins bowls a low full toss. Not always easy to get those away. Pandya looks to go over mid off but it goes off the toe-end. Finch there completes an easy catch. Australia will be relieved to see the back of Pandya as they were just not sure where to bowl to him. Could easily make a difference of 10 runs to the final total.

45.4 2

Pat Cummins to Hardik Pandya. Well fielded! Short and on middle, Pandya pulls it in the gap in the mid-wicket region. Maxwell runs to his right, dives and parries it to Stoinis who runs to his left from deep square leg. Saves two for his side does Maxwell. 300 up for India. 4 more overs to go after this one.

Pat Cummins to Hardik Pandya. WIDE! Pressure getting to Cummins here. He bowls this way too wide outside off and it has wided.

45.3 4

45.2 0

Pat Cummins to Hardik Pandya. Good short one! Pandya looks to pull but is a touch early in the shot. It was the slower one. Also, Pandya was cramped for room there as it was very well-directed.

45.1 1

Pat Cummins to Virat Kohli. A low full toss outside off, Kohli looks to hit it through covers. It goes off the bottom down to third man for one.

End of Over : 45 12 Runs IND: 293/2

44.3 2

Mitchell Starc to Virat Kohli. In the air... but safe! Two runs taken! Zampa may have misjudged it there. Full and outside off, Kohli ends up slicing it towards third man. Zampa seems like did not run in there and he collects it on the bounce.

44.2 0

Mitchell Starc to Virat Kohli. BEATEN! Full and outside off, tailing away further. Kohli looks to drive but misses.

44.1 1

Mitchell Starc to Hardik Pandya. Length and around off, Pandya looks to whip it but it goes off the inner half through square leg. Pandya takes one and then wants another but Kohli sends him back. HP says there was easy two there.

Mitchell Starc is back for what will be his final spell. He got rid of Shikhar Dhawan in his last ball of his previous spell. Can he get a few more in his final spell?

End of Over : 44 14 Runs IND: 281/2
43.6 0

Pat Cummins to Hardik Pandya. SIX! That is dead straight, absolutely dead straight! Brings up the 50-run stand in style and it has come up in very quick time. The two need to continue in the same manner for India. Full and on middle, Pandya lifts it over the bowler's head and it goes all the way.

Pat Cummins is back into the attack. He has been wicketless today. Can he get rid of either Hardik Pandya or Virat Kohli?

End of Over : 43 10 Runs IND: 267/2
42.6 1

Adam Zampa to Hardik Pandya. Zampa pulls his length back and bowls it short now. It is on middle and leg, Pandya punches it to the right of deep mid-wicket and gets a single. He will keep the strike.

42.5 6

Adam Zampa to Hardik Pandya. SIX! Pandya has hit it right off the middle. Tossed up on middle and leg, Hardik heaves it over the mid-wicket fence for a maximum. Alex Carey must be gutted with himself as he had dropped Hardik Pandya early on, on 0.

42.4 0

Adam Zampa to Hardik Pandya. Short around off, Pandya cuts it to the man at point.

42.3 1

Adam Zampa to Virat Kohli. Flighted on middle, Kohli gets down on one knee and sweeps it to deep mid-wicket for single.

42.1 1

Adam Zampa to Virat Kohli. Shorter on leg, Kohli flicks it to mid-wicket and gives the dangerous Hardik Pandya the strike.

Adam Zampa is back on! I have this feeling he would either go for runs here or pick a few wickets.

End of Over : 42 11 Runs IND: 257/2
41.6 4

Nathan Coulter-Nile to Hardik Pandya. FOUR! Save your head, Coulter-Nile! A boundary to start the over and one to end! He goes full again and Pandya hammers it back towards the bowler. Nathan does well to get down in time and the ball races to the long off fence. 11 from the over.

41.3 1

Nathan Coulter-Nile to Hardik Pandya. Goes short now and Pandya pulls it nicely through mid-wicket for one.

This could prove very, very costly as Hardik can take the game away from you quickly. Length and around off, Pandya plays inside the line. The ball flies off the outside edge towards Carey who dives to his right, gets two hands to it but spills it. It goes down towards third man for one.

37.2 1

Nathan Coulter-Nile to Virat Kohli. Angled into the batsman, it is worked towards fine leg for one.

37.1 0

Nathan Coulter-Nile to Virat Kohli. Back of a length on off, it is defended.

Hardik Pandya is the new man in. It will be interesting to see if he goes after the bowlers right from the first ball. He is very capable to do so.

End of Over : 37 7 Runs IND: 220/2
36.6 W

Mitchell Starc to Shikhar Dhawan. OUT! Dhawan holes out! End of a brilliant knock. He walks out to a standing ovation from the crowd. Starc bowls it full on the pads, Dhawan looks to flick it over square leg. He does not time it well so he gets a lot of height on it but not the distance. Nathan Lyon, the substitute fielder at deep square leg takes an easy catch. Dhawan has to depart, he has played a brilliant knock here. Drinks Break! India are steamrolling here. With 17 overs to go and 9 wickets in hand, India are in the driver's seat at the moment. They will be looking to get to a minimum of 320 from here on. Australia need wickets here, they built pressure on Kohli early on but did not threaten much after it. The only way Australia can restrict India is by picking up wickets here.

He pushes this full ball towards mid off. Kohli is off for a run but Dhawan sends him back. Virat turns and then dives to get in. The fielder scores a direct hit at the non-striker's end. The ball deflects away from the fielder backing up and the batters then take a run. However, there is an appeal from the Australians. The umpire waits for the run to be completed and then takes it upstairs. In the meantime, Dhawan asks Kohli if he is in and he may have got a nod so he takes his helmet off. 3.4 0

Mitchell Starc to Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan had no idea where the ball was! Very full and on off, Dhawan looks to play it with a closed face of the bat. He gets an inside edge onto the pads. Soon realizes it has gone to the bowler and he gets back in as Starc mimes a throw.

1.4 1

Mitchell Starc to Rohit Sharma. Back of a length on off, Sharma drops it towards cover for one.

1.3 2

Mitchell Starc to Rohit Sharma. DROPPED! But a top effort from Nathan Coulter-Nile. Magnificent! In the end, he saved a certain boundary. Starc bowls it on the pads, Rohit flicks it uppishly in front of square. NCN there dives full stretch to his right and sticks one hand out. The ball does not stick though and it goes behind for two.

1.2 0

Mitchell Starc to Rohit Sharma. Lands it on a length now and gets this one to angle away from the right-hander. Rohit shoulders arms to it.

1.1 1

Mitchell Starc to Shikhar Dhawan. Strangely Starc goes short first up, it is on the body of Dhawan. He works it towards square leg and gets to the other end. He is off the mark too.

Mitchell Starc to bowl from the other end with the second new ball.

End of Over : 1 2 Runs IND: 2/0

Done and dusted with the national anthems and now we are all set to begin. The Australian players are out on the field taking their respective positions. For India, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan walk out to open the innings. The former will take the strike. Pat Cummins to start the proceedings with the first new ball.

Both sets of players walk out to the middle for their respective National Anthems. First up, it will be Australia's national anthem who play this game as the visiting side, followed by India's who are the home team for this one. We are not far away from the first ball being bowled in this game.

Australi Playing XI (UNCHANGED) - David Warner, Aaron Finch (C), Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Alex Carey (WK), Nathan Coulter-Nile, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa.

India Playing XI (UNCHANGED) - Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (C), KL Rahul, MS Dhoni (WK), Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah.

Australian skipper, Aaron Finch says he would have batted first as well as it is a used wicket and might get slower later on. On the winning streak, Finch says it helps build the confidence but it is the World Cup and they are playing a different team so they cannot just rest on the same. On playing the same team, Finch says there were some thoughts but they decided to stick with the same eleven as even though they did not play very well in the last game they managed to get the win.

Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, says it looks a very nice wicket, it has been used before so he feels it will get slower. Mentions it looks nice and hard now so he would want to make use of it early on. States runs on board is the way to go so that the bowling attack can get into the game in the second half and put pressure on the opposition. Adds further the sun is out, it looks a hard pitch and it is a no-brainer to bat first. Reckons there isn't a lot of moisture in the wicket and it seems it will play well. Informs they are playing with the same XI as the bowling line-up seemed balanced and the batting also has depth and they don't want to tinker with the side which won the first game.

TOSS- We are all in readiness. Indian skipper, Virat Kohli has the coin in hand. Up it goes, Australian skipper, Aaron Finch calls Heads but it comes down as Tails. INDIA OPT TO BAT FIRST.

PITCH REPORT - Sanjay Manjrekar and Michael Slater with the pitch report. Manjrekar says the weather is awesome as the sun is out and it is also cool. He informs while bowling from Vauxhall End, the boundaries behind square are short and also from the Pavillion End, the side boundaries are very similar. On the pitch, he says it looks tacky. Slater from the other end agrees with Manjrekar and he informs that it was raining two days ago and it is a typical Oval wicket and there will be a bit of bounce and carry. He tells that the ball might do something later on. Slater reckons the team winning the toss should bat first and says he expects more than 280 runs to be scored on this wicket.

Welcome to match 14 and what a clash we have today! 2-time World Champions, India, go up against defending and 5-time World Champions, Australia. Bumrah and Chahal's magical display with the ball followed by Rohit Sharma's unbeaten ton saw India open their World Cup campaign with a comprehensive win against South Africa. For Australia, it was Nathan Coulter-Nile's heroics with the bat followed by Starc's brilliance that stole victory from the jaws of defeat against West Indies. Both sides unbeaten at this World Cup, one might have the bitter taste of defeat at the end of the day. The question is who will it be? An epic clash awaits us. Stay tuned as we are not far away from the toss.

End of Over : 50.0 AUS: 316/10

That is it from game number 14. Australia's 10-match winning streak has been broken. They drop down to 4th in the points table while India move up to 3rd. Monday sees South Africa taking on West Indies in Southampton at 10.30 am local (0930 GMT). A must-win game for the Proteas to turn their horrible fortune around. Until then, ADIOS! TAKE CARE!

Victorious Indian captain, Virat Kohli, says that this was a top win, especially after losing the bilateral series in India. Stresses that the team wanted to prove a point and came out with intent, right from the openers, then towards the death and eventually the bowlers. Cites this as a complete professional performance. Says that one cannot just take things for granted because you have got 350 on the board and you have to bowl well but those extra 30 runs do give a cushion. States further that Dhawan was going well, then he himself was in good touch and then Hardik had a wonderful outing. On Shami's non-inclusion, Kohli says that overcast conditions are a must for him to play while Bhuvneshwar Kumar can never be written off, as was evident in this game's double-wicket over to dismiss Smith and Stoinis.

Australian captain, Aaron Finch says 120 runs in the last 10 overs was a lot and he feels they did not bowl well in the end. He feels they did not get wickets early on. Further adds India had wickets in hand at the end and with set batters out there, run-stopping is tough. States there was not a lot on offer with the new ball but they could have been a lot straighter. Stresses you need wickets against this Indian batting line-up. Tells they assess the conditions and then make a decision, they will assess the conditions of the next game see what changes need to be made. Admits he hates getting run out, however, he backs his partner's call and such things happens in cricket. On Warner's bizarre knock, Finch says that India bowled really well to Warner and the wicket was not easy to bat on. Ends by saying, Warner is a great player, and today was an off day for him.

SHIKHAR DHAWAN HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. States that the team is very happy with the result and the fact that everyone performed is a great sign for the unit. Feels that India have a very balanced side which includes a good set of fast bowlers. Stresses that the team works very hard in the nets and which is why the results go their way. Agrees that India ticked all their boxes in the game, first putting up a good total and then the bowlers backing it up amazingly. Wants the team to maintain the same form and intensity and keep ticking all the boxes. Thanks the crowd for coming out in numbers to support the Indian team.

Questions will be posed on Australia's bowling, fielding and Warner's batting. The team seemed to lack purpose and it was as if they were not mentally present. They did not have any answer to Dhawan and Rohit's onslaught, or Kohli's punishments or Pandya's whips. Ended up conceding way too many runs. Wonder what might have happened had Carey taken that catch to dismiss Hardik on 0. Here comes the presentation...

The pitch did not have much in it and stayed true for most part of the game. But Australia simply did not have the arsenal to chase down 353. David Warner played a bizarre knock of 56 from 84 balls and the middle order just could breathe when choked by 'KulCha'. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah were amongst the wickets, sharing 3 apiece while Chahal snared Warner and Maxwell.

Comprehensive win by India to get their second successive victory in this World Cup. Won an important toss, put up a high total and then bowled exceedingly well to defend. Australia simply did not turn up. Looked ragged and lacklustre but they will take the fact that they managed to bat out their 50 overs and get some runs under their belt.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Adam Zampa. OUT! In the air... taken! Three-fer for Bhuvneshwar Kumar. It is the slower one on off, Zampa looks to loft it over mid off but does not get the timing right. 40.4 W

Yuzvendra Chahal to Glenn Maxwell. OUT! Maxwell falls and that probably is now the confirmation that Australia truly and surely do not have any more chance in this game. Tossed up bravely outside off, Maxwell looks to play the slog sweep but only top edges it high in the air. A length ball outside off, Stoinis lazily looks to run it down towards third man but the bat comes down months late. The ball jags back in, hits the pads and pegs the off stump back! A duck for Stoinis and India probably have more than one-and-a-half foot on the victory path.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Marcus Stoinis. Outside off, punched towards cover.

Marcus Stoinis walks in at number 6, replacing Smith.

39.4 W

Jasprit Bumrah to Steve Smith. FOUR! Off the inside edge! Kohli is not happy. A length ball outside off, Smith goes hard at this one, looking to force a cover drive but the ball goes off the inside edge, past the stumps and beats fine leg! 38.3 0

38.2 1

Jasprit Bumrah to Glenn Maxwell. Outside off, another short ball, this is pulled straight to deep square leg for a single.

36.5 4

Jasprit Bumrah to Glenn Maxwell. FOUR! Stunning placement! Maxi starts off with a strike rate of 400. Full on middle, Maxwell drives this straight back past the bowler. Mid on is inside and it beats him to the fence!

The water has risen to dangerous levels now with the Aussies clearly looking to play out their 50 overs and get some batting practice and also not hurting their net run rate.
