End of Over : 49.2BAN: 244/10
Will the Kiwis haul this target easily? Bangladesh have got the score on the board. Join us back in a while to see if they can defend it.
Hmmm.... what to read in Santner's words? He says the score is below par but there is drift and spin on offer. So that means the likes of Shakib, Mehedi and even Mahmudullah can have a good time.
Mitchell Santner says they are happy with the score as traditionally it is a high-scoring ground but he says the wicket is slower than they thought it would be. Says there was a lot out there with regards to drift and spin. On his role, Mitchell says that it is to block runs and build pressure so that others can capitalize on. Santner reckons the pitch will hold true and feels Bangladesh are a bit below par but also adds they have good bowlers, so the Kiwis need to bat smartly out there.
To bowl out an opposition inside 50 overs on a flat deck requires some doing and New Zealand did that today. Henry and Boult set things up with the new balls and the Tigers could not quite find any loose stuff to attack. Henry finished with a 4-fer while Boult took a couple. But Mitchell Santner provided a good hold in the middle and here he is, giving an interview.
Usually, the saying goes that history repeats itself. It did not here. Against the Proteas, Shakib and Rahim took the game away from the opposition. Here, the keeper departed after a start and after that, Bangladesh managed to get small partnerships but none going big. Shakib was the lone man crossing 50 while 5 others in the top 6 wasted their starts, getting out in the range of 19-25.
It was a sedate start from the Asian side. They struggled to get the boundaries early on till Soumya Sarkar began to hit the ball sweetly. But then, he could not carry on for long and the opening stand was cut short at 45. Tamim departed soon after and we then saw some sort of a recovery, with Rahim and Shakib adding 50 for the third wicket.
A thoroughly professional bowling performance from New Zealand. They realized that the ball was not doing much and hence resorted to run-curtailing. Eventually, Bangladesh went to play too many shots and the Kiwis got wickets.
49.2W

Mashrafe Mortaza comes in at number 10. Surprising to see him bat so low. He can play a few cameos. Not much time left here.
48.2W
Trent Boult to Mehedi Hasan. OUT! Boult gets his second of the game. Smart thinking this from Boult. He follows the slower one with a bouncer. Hasan comes down the track and looks to pull it but gets a feather on it which goes behind to Latham. He takes the catch and starts celebrating. Hasan is unmoved but the umpire raises his finger. 45.54
Lockie Ferguson to Mohammad Saifuddin. FOUR! Saifuddin can hit big! He connects this length ball outside off from the sweet spot of the bat and pulls it handsomely to mid-wicket. 44.66
Mitchell Santner to Mohammad Saifuddin. SIX! That was six the moment it left the bat. Tossed up on off, Saifuddin swings his bat at it and he connects as well. The ball goes way over the cow corner fence for a mammoth maximum. It has taken 45 overs for us to witness the first six of the game. Good day for Santner though with the ball. He finishes with the figures of 10-1-41-1.
44.50
Mitchell Santner to Mohammad Saifuddin. SAFE! The inside edge has saved him. New Zealand lose their only review. It is a flighted ball around off, Saifuddin looks to play the scoop but it looks like he has missed it. New Zealand put in an appeal but the umpire turns it down. Kane Williamson has a word with Santner and Latham and then decides to take it upstairs. Replays roll in and Ultra Edge shows there was a nick on it as it went to hit the pad. The impact also looked an issue but we don't have to go to Hawk Eye as there was bat involved.
Howzzat? New Zealand have reviewed an unsuccessful LBW appeal. Was the impact outside off? Did the ball pitch outside leg? Is the angle taking the ball away from off stump? In fact, Ultra Edge shows a spike when the ball passes the bat. New Zealand will lose their review.

23.5W
Mitchell Santner to Mushfiqur Rahim. OUT! This was coming, wasn't it? They have played a lot of games together but their communication today has left a lot to be desired. Floated ball on off, Rahim punches it wide of cover and looks for a quick single. Mushfiqur in fact gets off straightaway after hitting. Shakib though comes forward for a bit and then sends Rahim back who was half way down the track. Guptill gets to the ball and throws it to Latham. The throw is a good one and this time Latham whips the bails off. Mushfiqur is nowhere in the picture and he has a word with Shakib before he goes. Drinks Break! Excellent bowling from the Kiwis. They have not let the Bangladesh batsmen to run away with the game by curtailing and that has resulted in a couple of wickets. The track looks a good one to bat on and hence, the Men In Green would be aiming to try and counter-attack. Will be interesting to see New Zealand's response if the storm arrives. Fuller on middle and leg, Sarkar looks to go hard at it as he tries to heave it on the leg side. He misses his shot and the ball clips his pad and deflects onto the stumps. Hard to say whether this shot was needed or not at this point of time. Bangladesh had not lost a wicket so far but the run rate was not that great. New Zealand Playing XI (Unchanged) - Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Kane Williamson (C), Ross Taylor, Tom Latham (WK), Jimmy Neesham, Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult.
Pitch Report - Simon Doull and Nasser Hussain are the pitch analysts tonight. Doull says the ground is very symmetrical and it is a nice and even one. Nasser Hussain on the other side of the wicket, says that it is a new pitch and was not used in the two games played here. He says the pitch is an even one and there is a good covering of grass and there will be a good bit of bounce. He says it will have a tennis ball bounce on it and hence Kane Williamson decided to bowl. Nasser also adds that the test for Bangladesh will be to face the pacers whereas for New Zealand it will be how they play finger spin.
Bangladesh skipper, Mashrafe Mortaza says they would have bowled first as well as it is a new surface. Tells they played well and want to repeat it and in the previous game they were just looking to fight till the last ball. On experience of his side, Mortaza says it is an experienced side and they know to take responsibility. He ends by informing us they are unchanged as well.
New Zealand skipper, Kane Williamson says it is a fresh surface and there might be something in it, hence they want to bowl first. Says Bangladesh are a different side and it's a new day and they are prepared. Kane informs they have had a good practice session and they have also had a good amount of rest. On injuries, he says the injured players are okay but they are playing the same eleven as they did well in the first game.
TOSS - Bangladesh skipper, Mashrafe Mortaza has the coin in hand. Up it goes, Kane Williamson calls it tails and it lands as tails. NEW ZEALAND OPT TO BOWL FIRST.
Welcome to match 9 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. A confident Bangladesh take on a strong New Zealand side. Stay tuned to find out as the toss is not far away.
End of Over : 47.1NZ: 248/8
That ends the action from Wednesday's double-header! In case you missed out, India defeated South Africa in Southampton earlier in the day, opening their account in the World Cup. The caravan now moves to Trent Bridge, Nottingham where West Indies take on Australia. Rest assured, it is not going to be those expected one-sided contests. It is a fiery one for sure! Do join us at 10.30 am local (0930 GMT) for all the action from game 10 on Thursday, June 6, 2019. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Victorious New Zealand skipper, Kane Williamson, says that it is nice to get across the line. Praises his bowlers and fielders for doing well in the first innings. Admits that with the bat, there were a few soft dismissals but also relishes that this issue and challenge which came up. On the surface, Williamson says that it was one which had plenty for the fast bowlers but as the game got deeper, spin came into play. On Tim Southee's fitness, Kane says that he is fit but the ones performing in the park have been doing well too.
Bangladesh captain, Mashrafe Mortaza, admits that it was a good wicket and Bangladesh were 20-30 runs short. Feels the outfield was pretty quick and that hurt Bangladesh in the end. Agrees that when Williamson and Taylor were going great guns, he had a defensive field but then realized that wickets were important. Hopes to do better in the coming games.
For his brilliant knock of 82, ROSS TAYLOR has been adjudged the MAN OF THE MATCH. Taylor says it was a very nervous game and credits the Bangladesh fans as they made it feel as if they were in Dhaka and made New Zealand feel under pressure. Credits his bowlers for the way they bowled as they thought 270-280 would have been a good score to chase on this wicket. On the missed run out chance of Kane Williamson, he smiles and says they had some issues in the warm up game as well but it is alright and he hopes to improve it in the match against Afghanistan.
Fielding plays such a critical part in a limited overs' game, isn't it? Normally one does not get too many chances. Here, Mushfiqur Rahim got 2 chances in one over, of Williamson and Taylor but he fluffed both. Imagine New Zealand being 60/4. Bangladesh would have been on top of the table right now. The bowling was decent in patches with the bowlers coming up with the goods at the death. That Williamson wicket seemed to spur everyone on. Mehedi, Shakib, Saifuddin and Mosaddek took 2 wickets apiece. Please stay tuned for the presentation...
With 85 needed from 19 overs and 8 wickets in hand, the Black Caps were in the driver's seat. But Williamson's wicket led to a collapse and the Kiwis choked. From 160/2, they slipped to 218/7 and it seemed like Bangladesh would gain an unlikely win. But calm and composed Mitchell Santner ensured that there was no hara-kiri.
Guptill and Munro started like there is no tomorrow, trying their level best to end this game in 20 overs. But then both were dismissed and actually, both Williamson and Taylor should have been dismissed too. But Rahim's folly let Williamson and Taylor off the hook and the duo ended up adding 105 for the third wicket.
How does one approach a semi-difficult target? What is that, in the first place? Any target which is the range of 240-270. Because then you don't know whether to play cautiously and end up getting in a mire or go flat out and end up taking the risk of throwing the match away. New Zealand were caught in that conundrum in this game.
A nervy win in the end. New Zealand should have romped home but they have taken the longer route. However, they will take these 2 points and be happy with their table position.

Mehedi bowls one on the pads of Taylor, he flicks it to mid-wicket and calls Neesham for a quick single. There is a yes-yes and a no-no because Neesham stutters. Eventually they go through and the fielder from mid-wicket hares to the ball and scores a direct hit at the striker's end off balance. Bangladesh celebrate and to the naked eye it seems like it is out. But replays show otherwise. Good fielding by Bangladesh. The two wickets have infused tremendous energy in them. They have sprang back to life it seems.

Shakib Al Hasan to Ross Taylor. SAFE. Rahim has indeed disturbed the bails with his right hand even before the throw could come. Why didn't he uproot the stump? Full on middle, Taylor comes down the track and works it wide of mid on. There is some miscommunication between the batsmen as Rosco wants the single but Williamson does not. Eventually, Willy goes for the run but he is nowhere even in the frame. The throw comes from mid on to Rahim and it is in line of the stumps. But Rahim comes in front of the sticks and in that process, his right glove touches the stumps and the bails come off. Rahim does not have the presence of mind to uproot the stump. Third umpire confirms. Massive opportunity missed.

We are back with the run chase. 245 needed for New Zealand to go on top of the table. On paper, it looks easy. Not quite sure it will be that easy. Guptill and Munro are waiting at the boundary lines and the Bangladesh players too get into a huddle outside the boundary. No one has stepped in yet.
Bangladesh vs New Zealand Highlights And Cricket Score 9th Match - ODI Commentary
Matt Henry to Mohammad Saifuddin. OUT! Cleaned 'em. Full ball on the stumps, Saifuddin looks to hit it but he misses and the ball hit him on the pads and goes crashing onto the stumps. BANGLADESH BOWLED OUT FOR 244 with 4 balls wasted.

Mehedi then starts walking back he does not take the review as he knows he had got something on it. 150th ODI wicket for Trent Boult!

The ball goes way over the cow corner fence for a mammoth maximum. It has taken 45 overs for us to witness the first six of the game. Good day for Santner though with the ball. He finishes with the figures of 10-1-41-1.

Not the wicket Bangladesh would have wanted to lose and definitely not in this manner. New Zealand though would be happy to see the back of Mushfiqur as he was the chief tormentor against South Africa.

However, he stops as the fielder is very quick to pounce on the ball. Shakib is sent back from halfway down the pitch. The throw comes in at the non-striker's end but it hits Shakib instead. Hard to say whether this shot was needed or not at this point of time. Bangladesh had not lost a wicket so far but the run rate was not that great. Sarkar was trying to up the ante and in that process, lost his wicket. The argument will be that he has got a wide range of shots and he could have chosen something better than a slog.
