Bangladesh vs New Zealand Highlights And Cricket Score 9th Match - ODI Summary

End of Over : 47.1 NZ: 248/8

That ends the action from Wednesday's double-header! In case you missed out, India defeated South Africa in Southampton earlier in the day, opening their account in the World Cup. The caravan now moves to Trent Bridge, Nottingham where West Indies take on Australia. Rest assured, it is not going to be those expected one-sided contests. It is a fiery one for sure! Do join us at 10.30 am local (0930 GMT) for all the action from game 10 on Thursday, June 6, 2019. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!

Victorious New Zealand skipper, Kane Williamson, says that it is nice to get across the line. Praises his bowlers and fielders for doing well in the first innings. Admits that with the bat, there were a few soft dismissals but also relishes that this issue and challenge which came up. On the surface, Williamson says that it was one which had plenty for the fast bowlers but as the game got deeper, spin came into play. On Tim Southee's fitness, Kane says that he is fit but the ones performing in the park have been doing well too.

Bangladesh captain, Mashrafe Mortaza, admits that it was a good wicket and Bangladesh were 20-30 runs short. Feels the outfield was pretty quick and that hurt Bangladesh in the end. Agrees that when Williamson and Taylor were going great guns, he had a defensive field but then realized that wickets were important. Hopes to do better in the coming games.

For his brilliant knock of 82, ROSS TAYLOR has been adjudged the MAN OF THE MATCH. Taylor says it was a very nervous game and credits the Bangladesh fans as they made it feel as if they were in Dhaka and made New Zealand feel under pressure. Credits his bowlers for the way they bowled as they thought 270-280 would have been a good score to chase on this wicket. On the missed run out chance of Kane Williamson, he smiles and says they had some issues in the warm up game as well but it is alright and he hopes to improve it in the match against Afghanistan.

Fielding plays such a critical part in a limited overs' game, isn't it? Normally one does not get too many chances. Here, Mushfiqur Rahim got 2 chances in one over, of Williamson and Taylor but he fluffed both. Imagine New Zealand being 60/4. Bangladesh would have been on top of the table right now. The bowling was decent in patches with the bowlers coming up with the goods at the death. That Williamson wicket seemed to spur everyone on. Mehedi, Shakib, Saifuddin and Mosaddek took 2 wickets apiece. Please stay tuned for the presentation...

With 85 needed from 19 overs and 8 wickets in hand, the Black Caps were in the driver's seat. But Williamson's wicket led to a collapse and the Kiwis choked. From 160/2, they slipped to 218/7 and it seemed like Bangladesh would gain an unlikely win. But calm and composed Mitchell Santner ensured that there was no hara-kiri.

Guptill and Munro started like there is no tomorrow, trying their level best to end this game in 20 overs. But then both were dismissed and actually, both Williamson and Taylor should have been dismissed too. But Rahim's folly let Williamson and Taylor off the hook and the duo ended up adding 105 for the third wicket.

How does one approach a semi-difficult target? What is that, in the first place? Any target which is the range of 240-270. Because then you don't know whether to play cautiously and end up getting in a mire or go flat out and end up taking the risk of throwing the match away. New Zealand were caught in that conundrum in this game.

A nervy win in the end. New Zealand should have romped home but they have taken the longer route. However, they will take these 2 points and be happy with their table position.
