Sri Lanka vs England Highlights And Cricket Score 5th Match - ODI Commentary
So, a stiff target set in front of the away side. The boundaries are small, but with the wicket a touch on the slower side and turning, it won't exactly be an easy task by any means. Having said that, if there is one team you'll back to gun this down then it's England. A good start will be key for them. Join us on the other side of the break for all the action.
Not much to mention about the English bowling. They were highly inaccurate with their lines and were equally let down with some sloppy fielding from the rest (particularly Chandimal's dropped chance when he was on 6). Not enough wickets came at timely intervals and the runs just kept leaking. You could say Adil Rashid was the pick of the lot, as he ended with figures of 1/52.
Finally, the batting clicks for Sri Lanka and they put up their highest-ever total against England in ODIs. It all began with the fast start Dickwella and Samarawickrama gave the hosts. Their 137-run set the tone which Chandimal and Mendis followed up very well with a century stand of their own. All scored superb fifties, with Dickwella missing out on a ton by 5 runs. Some late hitting from Akila and de Silva saw Sri Lanka cross the 360-run mark.
Tom Curran to Dhananjaya de Silva. SIX! Finishes things off in style. What a way to end the innings. Full and attacking the stumps, right in the slot and de Silva has no qualms about going big for this. Clears his front leg and smokes it high over long on for half a dozen. SRI LANKA FINISH ON 366/6!

Tom Curran to Dhananjaya de Silva. Too far out but no wide given. Well outside off, it across the tramline, de Silva goes a long way across to attempt the paddle scoop but misses.

Akila Dananjaya is out next and he will face the hat-trick ball.
Tom Curran to Thisara Perera. OUT! Now Thisara holes out and Tom Curran is on a hat-trick. Wrong wicket at the wrong time, especially after Chandimal's dismissal. Short of a length, Perera stands back and muscles this over mid-wicket. Doesn't get the desired elevation on it and hits it towards Alex Hales at deep mid-wicket, who takes a good catch moving to his left.
Dhananjaya de Silva to be the new man in.
Tom Curran to Dinesh Chandimal. OUT! Chandimal departs! A good knock from the Sri Lankan skipper comes to a close. Tom lands it short and takes the pace off this one. Chandimal looks to heave this over mid-wicket but there's no pace to work with. He's a bit early into the shot and holes out in the deep to Jason Roy who makes no mistake. This is a big breakthrough for England, a timely one and it will surely take away at least 15-20 runs from Sri Lanka's eventual score.

Knew straightaway he was in trouble when he hit it as he didn't time it well. Roy at cow corner takes a good catch. Adil was brought on to take a wicket and he does so. Liam Plunkett to Kusal Mendis. OUT! GONE! Mendis has been dismissed. Was going for the quick runs and has departed in search of it. A good knock comes to an end. Length ball on the stumps, the batsman looks to slog it over the mid-wicket boundary. Gets a lot of height, not enough distance on it and this time Ben Stokes takes it well as he comes running in from the deep. An excellent stand of 102 is brought to an end by Plunkett. Bowling change does the trick.
Liam Plunkett to Kusal Mendis. Short of a good length outside off, Mendis rises on his toes and cuts it past the diving point field. Joe Denly (sub) out in the deep moves to his left, covers good ground and stops it with a dive. The batsmen take two.

Ben Stokes to Kusal Mendis. Taps it down on the leg side and they steal another run under mid-wicket's nose. Frustrating continues for Stokes. 6 from this over.
Ben Stokes to Dinesh Chandimal. Sharp single! Very risky. A length ball outside off, Chandimal forces it out towards mid off and scampers across the pitch looking for a run. His partner though is ball-watching initially. But when Mendis realized that his skipper is in the middle of the pitch, he responds and rushes across to the other end. Liam Plunkett is lazy to get his throw away towards the keeper. Buttler (on the run) collects it and breaks the stumps but Kusal is safely in. A better throw would have made things interesting. Stokes once again isn't impressed.

The umpire raises his finger. Niroshan refers it immediately. The replays roll in and Snickometer shows that there was no bat involved. The third umpire announces his verdict but is then reminded by someone to check for the LBW as well. Now, the Ball Tracking shows that it's missing leg. Eventful ball.

It is always difficult to play Sri Lanka at home and they are happy with the series win. Mentions they have a number of pacers who are trying to get in the XI for the World Cup. Credits Olly Stone for the way he bowled in the first game and says he is a promising prospect. He hopes they have around 18-19 guys competing for a place in the XI.
PITCH REPORT - Russel Arnold doing the pitch report says that there is nothing patchy about the surface. Adds saying that there is little grass which will hold things together. Reckons it is hard and it will produce pace and bounce. Mentions that the average first innings score here is 285 and teams will need a score above 280 to stay in the game. Ends by saying that there will be dew factor later on as the game progresses.
Eoin Morgan has rested himself and Jos Buttler is leading England today in his absence. He says they would have bowled as it looks a good wicket and the weather also is nice. Informs there are three changes as Eoin Morgan, Olly Stone and Chris Woakes go out for Sam Curran, Liam Plunkett and Mark Wood. On captaincy, feels it's always an honour so he wants to do his best. States he's going to move up the order to no.4 and is keen to see the others do well as they want to impress. Adds there are loads of options, as there are 4 seamers and 2 spinners.
Sri Lanka's skipper, Dinesh Chandimal says it looks like a good pitch, little bit dry so wants to bat first and put them under pressure. Mentions there are a couple of changes as Lasith Malinga and Amila Aponso are out for Lakshan Sandakan and Dushmantha Chameera. Explains Malinga has been rested and with the World Cup coming up, it's important to give the youngsters a chance. On Kusal Mendis, he says he's a great talent and he'll come back stronger. States they are improving, as they came close in the last game and are working hard during practice.
Toss - Sri Lanka win the toss and opt to bat.
First things first it is bright and sunny. No rain for some time now as we are going to get started on time. Excellent news for peeps who are following the series and awaiting some proper cricket. Having won the series, England may want to test their bench strength. They can afford to do so, as they have been dominant throughout the series. For the home team, they have a lot of work to do before the World Cup which is fast approaching. Their bowling and batting have not been the best in recent times and they will want to rectify whatever it is ASAP. Will it be a clean sweep for the visitors? Or will the Islanders manage to avoid that? Stay tuned to find out.
So that is it from the series. Morgan is handed the trophy. Cricket though between the two sides have not ended as of now. There is still a T20I to go and then a Test series the to follow. The one-off T20I between the two will take place in Colombo at 7.00 PM local (1.30 PM GMT). Till then goodbye and cheers!

He admits it was his mistake but he was attacking throughout and wanted to play the same. Admits the words with the coaches helped him with his batting. Adds further it was a hot day and he was taking his time and was not cramping. Ends by saying he moves around to unsettle the lines and the lengths of the bowlers.
You get a feel it was just not England's day today. They were poor in the field, dropping several catches, their bowlers were very poor and their batting which most of the times fires, did not come off. Probably a day to forget for them but a series to remember as they have won it 3-1.
Now coming to the defense - Their bowlers started off in great fashion with both Rajitha and Chameera running through the top order. The former took one and the latter took three. In no time England were 28 for 4 and then it was an uphill task. A struggling (cramps) Stokes along with Moeen then counter-attacked. The two added a lovely 79-run stand. Ben Stokes got to his fifty but once the off spinning all-rounder fell, Sri Lanka ran through the lower order. Akila was the destroyer as he bagged four. However, the clouds opened up, just as the 9th wicket fell and that was that.
So, the inevitable has happened, the game has been CALLED OFF, which means, Sri Lanka have won the last ODI by a whopping margin of 219 (DLS). A complete team performance by them. They were ruthless with the bat first up, led by their opener, Dickwella and Chandimal. Smarawickrama and Kusal Mendis also played handy knocks which say the hosts post a massive 366. Their highest score against England.
A massive downpour is sweeping the Khettarama now. Covers are sweeping the ground from everywhere. Don't look like we are resuming any time soon, or probably not tonight. Neither team will be complaining too much, given the state of the game, Please stay tuned...
