England vs New Zealand Highlights And Cricket Score 4th Match - ODI Commentary

End of Over : 50.0 ENG: 335/9

Right then! 336 is what New Zealand need to stay alive in the series. Let me tell you, they have never lost an ODI at this venue. With shorter boundaries and the hunger to keep their hopes alive, expect them to come out all guns blazing. Will they be able to chase this down or will England seal the deal today? Join us back for the run chase in just a bit...

However, Tom Curran in the final over took Southee for a ride as he scored 18 runs to gain the momentum back heading into the break. New Zealand gave away too many at the start. All their bowlers were found wanting by the English batsmen. It was the part-timer, Munro who got them the breakthrough only for Sodhi to take over from there. The leggie picked up 4 and stopped the bleeding along with Boult. Southee had a day to forget as he was taken for aplenty.

Once that happened, Root joined forces with Bairstow and the duo then took the carnage forward. They amassed a huge 190-run stand for the second wicket with both scoring their respective tons. England were 267-1 when they lost Bairstow and they decided to promote Buttler up the order. The move didn't work and instead that led to a collapse. They lost next 8 wickets for just 46 runs and it seemed like they would not even play out their full quota of overs.

What a turnaround from New Zealand this has been. Simply outstanding and something that needs to be applauded. After being swatted around the park, New Zealand came back well in the end to restrict England under 350 which at once seemed easily on the cards. It all started with Roy and Bairstow who just didn't take anytime to settle. They raised a 77-run stand before the former departed.

49.6 2

Tim Southee to Tom Curran. CURRAN MAKES IT IN! He nearly had struck another boundary. Southee angles in a fuller ball on the stumps, Curran drags it off the inner half towards deep square leg where Nicholls dives full length to his right to stop it inside the boundary line. Replays confirm he has. 18 runs off the final over and ENGLAND HAVE 335 ON THE BOARD FOR THE LOSS OF 9 WICKETS!

They have gone upstairs to check for a run out. Has Curran completed the second run?

10.2 W

Ish Sodhi to Jason Roy. OUT! It's a clean take from Santner! Sodhi strikes in his first over! Just what he was brought into the attack for by Williamson and he will be a relieved man seeing the back of Roy. Not the best of deliveries by Sodhi but he will take it. A short ball around leg stump, Roy looks to pull but he seems to have hit it twice and the ball lobs towards Santner at short fine leg. Mitchell knew it is going to die in front so he quickly runs forward, dives and grabs a brilliant low catch inches above the ground. Roy though feels it is not clean and he waits there. The umpires take it upstairs to check. Replays show that Santner's hands are underneath the ball. The Kiwis are pumped up as they needed this badly. Roy was taking the game away from them. He goes for an entertaining innings and the 77-run stand has been broken. Can the hosts pull things back now?

Has Santner taken a stunner? He certainly feels so but Roy wants it to be checked upstairs and the umpires do so. Looks clean to me.

7.1 0

Trent Boult to Jason Roy. Not out! Well, it was pad first but it was pitching outside leg. I did not see that coming though. A desperate review from New Zealand to be honest. A length ball shaping back in late around middle. Roy did not account for the swing as he tries to keep it out with the bat close to the pad. The Kiwi players appeal but the umpire shakes his head. After a chat with his teammates, Williamson goes for the review. Replays show it is pad first but it has pitched outside leg and it also looks to be going over the stumps. A waste of a review by the hosts and they lose their sole one.

Is that bat or pad first? New Zealand certainly feel it is pad as they have referred for an LBW after the umpire gives it not out. Roy is the man in question. Height also can be an issue here.

So, we are all set for the action to begin. It is bright and sunny, perfect cricketing conditions. The men who matter make their way out to the middle. Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow will open the batting for the visitors. The former will be taking strike and he will be facing Tim Southee who will bowl with the first new ball. He has two slips in place waiting for the outside edge. Here we go...

PITCH REPORT - Mark Richardson says, it is a better surface than the one Pakistan and New Zealand played on earlier this summer. Further adds there is a good grass covering on top. Reckons there might be some moisture underneath it and the pacers might get some movement. Ends by saying the spinners might get some slow turn.

Eoin Morgan too wanted to bowl first as it is the first day game. Informs they are unchanged. Mentions they have to be good with bat and ball if they are to seal the series today.

Kane Williamson mentions that the wicket has been under the cover for the last couple of days so they will look to exploit it. Informs Ross Taylor comes in for Mark Chapman. Hopes to put up a complete performance in order to win this game and stay alive.

TOSS - Kane Williamson flips the coin, Eoin Morgan calls for a head but it lands the opposite. New Zealand win the toss and opt to field.

2-1 is the scoreline after 3 games, three very good games I should say and we now head to Dunedin for the 4th ODI between New Zealand and England. A must-win for the hosts if they are to keep the series alive. They though have been handed a boost by the return of their in-form batsman, Ross Taylor who missed the last game due to an injury. They would hope for him to bring the stability to the middle order which they have been lacking in the last two games. England, on the other hand, will look to seal the series here today. They are unlikely to make any changes to their eleven from the last game as all their players have stepped up whenever required. Eoin Morgan will hope for the same to continue. Let us hope for another cracking encounter as we welcome you to our coverage. Toss coming up in just a bit...

End of Over : 49.3 NZ: 339/5

It's been one heck of a series. It all started with New Zealand winning the first ODI only for England to come from behind and take the next two. It was an important one for the hosts today and they have come out victorious by chasing a mountain of runs. What this match has done is, it has made the final ODI the decider. Something that we as cricket fans die for. Tune in on 10th March at 1100 Local (2200 GMT previous day) to catch all the action. Until then, goodbye and cheers!

Man of the match, Ross Taylor says this knock will be right up there in the top drawer. Is really happy to have stayed till the end and pull it off for his side. Mentions the partnerships with Williamson and Latham were crucial and credits them as well. Adds the communication between them is phenomenal and that he enjoys batting with them. On the injury, he said he was really struggling to run between the wickets and informs when he just crossed 100, the physio asked him whether he wants to bat or leave the field. Smiles and says he is glad that he decided to bat on. Reckons one can't win a game in the first 10 overs but can surely lose it. Informs it's his birthday tomorrow and he wanted to win to enjoy it.

Victorious New Zealand skipper, Kane Williamson also calls it a great game of cricket. Is delighted with the win and that his side thrived under pressure pleases him all the more. Gives a lot of credit to his bowlers with the way they bowled in the second half. Is short of words to describe Ross Taylor's innings and calls it one of the best knocks he has witnessed in a run chase. Admits the intensity was dropped a bit at the start of the first innings but is proud of the boys to gain it back. On the surface, he feels it was a great one and didn't change much throughout the course of the game. Wishes Taylor a speedy recovery and hopes that he plays the next game too.

England skipper, Eoin Morgan starts by saying it was a beauty of a game. Smiles and says it was a good match as the crowd was thoroughly entertained. Adds there was a bit of moisture at the toss and he would have done exactly what Williamson did. States they were very much in the game as their openers set it up beautifully but the collapse towards the end has hurt them big time. Tells us that they bat deep and usually they go hard in that situation, today they just couldn't manage to do it. Credits the hosts' bowlers for pulling things back. Praises Ross Taylor for his outstanding knock which took the game away from them.

Also not to forget the comeback the Kiwis made with the ball towards the end of the first innings. It was that effort which kept them in the game. At one stage when Root and Bairstow were going great guns, 400 looked possible but an inspirational bowling performance by Sodhi saw them getting bundled out for a total which the home side, in the end, chased down quite comfortably. Stay tuned for the presentation in a while.

Colin de Grandhomme came in after that and played his shots but there was some drama towards the end as Chris Woakes and Tom Curran bowled a few tight overs and also picked the wicket of Colin de Grandhomme. But Ross Taylor stayed there till the end and ensured he took his team over the finish line.

It all started with New Zealand losing both their openers for a duck with Chris Woakes picking one and Mark Wood taking one. They looked down and out at 2-2. But then Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor joined forces and counter-attacked. They stitched a 84-run stand which did give them a little momentum. However, when Kane Williamson was adjudged out caught behind of Ben Stokes, it seemed like the Kiwis would once again go onto the back foot. That was not the case though. Ross Taylor continued milking the bowlers and Tom Latham joined the party after that. The southpaw did ride his luck as he was dropped once and he survived a few close calls but the two stitched a match defining 187-run stand, giving the spinners and the pacers a pounding in the course before the left-hander departed.

PHEW! What a game, take a bow Ross Taylor. He walks off to a standing ovation by the crowd, by his teammates and he deserves every bit of it. What a run chase and how well did he construct it. The hosts continue their domination on this ground and this victory will surely be one of their best.

The fielder from point is quick to the ball and seeing that Munro sends him back. Guptill turns and tries to make it back. The fielder has a shy but misses.
