New Zealand vs England Highlights And Cricket Score 2nd Match - ODI Commentary

End of Over : 49.4 NZ: 223/10

So, the pitch isn't that bad as the batting scorecard suggests. England should fancy their chances to level the series. But given the way New Zealand fought back towards the end, will they be able to pull off something spectacular with the ball? We shall find out once the chase begins...

It was really a poor batting display from the Kiwis. Martin Guptill did manage to steady the ship but threw it away as soon as he reached his fifty. From thereon, the wickets kept tumbling which saw the hosts digging the yard for themselves. However, the star of the last game, Mitchell Santner came to the fore to save the blushes. He willingly spent some time in the middle and stroked his way to an unbeaten 63 off 52 balls. Also, not to forget Lockie Ferguson's effort who offered him a good hand as the duo stitched a crucial 69-run stand and helped their side recover a bit.

Excellent effort from England to restrict the hosts to a below par total. Chris Woakes dented the top order with some good bowling upfront only for the spinners to take care after that. Rashid and Ali were really disciplined in their respective spells, giving away just 65 in 20 overs combined. The latter did manage to pick up two while Stokes too got two to his name. Their bowlers were equally backed by their fielders who were just terrific today. Superb catches and run outs (4) tell us that they have redeemed themselves after being very ordinary in the first game.

49.4 W

Chris Woakes to Mitchell Santner. OUT! That's it! NEW ZEALAND ARE STEAMROLLED FOR 223! Fuller in length and angling in, Santner drags it through mid-wicket and wants two immediately. Stokes comes running in from the deep, picks up the ball and throws it at the bowler's end where Woakes does well to collect and disturb the stumps. Boult was always struggling to get in and when it is sent upstairs, only one replay is enough for the TV umpire to rule him out.

Is that it? Another run out appeal has been taken upstairs.

Third man comes in, mid off drops back now.

The latter will be taking strike and he will be facing David Willey who will bowl with the first new ball. He has two slips in place. Here we go...

PITCH REPORT - Scott Styris says the pitch has a little bit of moisture in it. Further adds there is more grass covering on it. Informs it is the first day night game on this ground and the surface won't be changing much. Mentions he does not see the spinners getting a lot of help from the wicket. Ends by saying a lot of runs on offer for the batsmen.

New Zealand skipper, Tim Southee, starts by saying Williamson is not fit for the game today as he has a hamstring although not that major. Informs there are two changes, Lockie Ferguson comes in for Ish Sodhi and Mark Chapman will replace the regular captain. Mentions he too wanted to bowl first. Further adds they are well focused and is really excited to lead the side today.

England skipper, Eoin Morgan, opines it does look a soft wicket but they like chasing. Informs they are unchanged. Mentions if dew comes in, it will work in their favour. Further adds they have a lot of positives to take from the last game as it was a tight one against a strong New Zealand side. Ends by saying there is a bit of cross-breeze blowing across and wants to take the advantage of it.

TOSS - As expected no Kane Williamson for New Zealand and it is Tim Southee who walks out with Eoin Morgan for the toss. The latter calls it right and England elect to bowl.

The home side on the other hand, will look to win their 10th game in a row at home. They though, will have to do it without their permanent skipper, Kane Williamson, who will miss out due to an injury. Tim Southee will be the stand-in captain for them. Also, Mark Chapman might make his debut in this format as he was impressive in the T20I tri series recently and has also been in good form in the domestic circuit. It is overcast for now and there are some showers predicted later in the evening. Let us hope that it stays away. Will we see the hosts go 2-0 ahead or will the English side come back roaring? Stay tuned for the toss.

Hello and welcome to the second ODI between New Zealand and England. A nail-biter is what we witnessed in the opening encounter and we will be hoping for the same here today at Mount Maunganui. Have England recovered from the loss? They were sloppy on the field and a lot better is expected from them if they are to topple the hosts. It will be interesting to see if England make any changes to their eleven.

End of Over : 37.5 ENG: 225/4

So, that is it from this game. New Zealand's 9-match winning streak comes to an end today. Also to make matters worse, along with Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor has also been added to the injury list. The hosts would probably hope that's it's not very serious and would be itching to have them both fit for the next game. The visitors, on the other hand, have surely recovered from the loss in the first game. They now have the momentum on their side and they would look to take it forward. Wellington is the place where it is going to be happen on the 3rd of March at 1400 local (0100 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye. Cheers!

Winning captain, Eoin Morgan, says they raised their intensity in this game. Reckons Willey and Woakes were very good at the start. Is elated with the way they fielded as a unit. Admits they tried to use the wind to their advantage as they have done before in the Windies. Further adds they tried doing the basics right in the field, something they could not do in Hamilton. Ends by saying if they imposed themselves on the crease, they knew that the runs would come.

Losing captain, Tim Southee, says it is always difficult after giving 4 run outs to the oppositions. Informs their plan was to keep creating chances and building pressure on the opposition and credits his bowlers for doing it. Feels it was a decent surface and they did not quite play well on it. Reckons the preparation for the next game will remain the same. About Ross Taylor, he says they will assess his injury and know about it in the next two days.

Man of the Match, Ben Stokes, says they wanted to comeback strong after the defeat in the first game. Credits the bowlers for their effort in the first half. He is happy with the way he played and says all the efforts in practice paid off. Adds they were quite equal with bat and ball in the first game but admits that their fielding was really poor which cost them the match.

It's not that New Zealand gave it away, they fought, firstly towards the end of the first innings and then in the second, they gave it their all on the field just like England. Both the sides didn't let the intensity drop which just lifted the bowlers to pick wickets. However, it was a dismal show with the bat which has cost the hosts this game. They recovered a bit through Santner's heroics but 224 was always going to be a tough job to defend. Hang in as we bring you the presentation...

So a dominant display here by England to make it 1-1. To be honest, it was all set up by their bowlers after they restricted the hosts to a modest total. Chasing 224 was never going to be a tough ask for their star-studded batting line-up. They did lose wickets at regular intervals but one good partnership was all they needed. Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes decided to get one as the duo added 88 for the 4th wicket, with both scoring half tons. The English skipper did fall when his side was at the door step to victory but Jos Buttler, then through his lusty blows made sure there were no further hiccups.

Morgan stays leg side and looks to hit it with a flat bat. Is early into the stroke and ends up spooning a simple catch to Munro who accepts it gleefully. End of a fantastic knock from the skipper but he'll be disappointed to not take his side over the line in spite of getting two lives.

However, there is a fielder there at third man exactly for that shot and it flies to him. He takes a couple of steps to his left, juggles a bit but does well to cling onto it.
