Bangladesh vs West Indies Highlights And Cricket Score 1st Match - ODI Commentary

End of Over : 50.0 BAN: 279/4

280 is the target for Windies to go 1-0 up in the 3-match ODI series. They have the firepower today to chase down this total, but will this pitch support them? The last two games they have played here - they have lost batting first and second. While the one before that, they ended up chasing 309 - all 3 ODIs against Pakistan. So hard to say what we can expect in this one. Stay tuned...

Windies will feel hard done by in the last 3 overs. They had conceded only 39 runs in 7 overs of Powerplay 3 till then, with 2 wickets. But Rahim's assault on Holder deflated them. Russell and Holder started tremendously while Alzarri Joseph was inconsistent. Ashley Nurse played a pivotal role, containing Bangladesh in the middle overs while Bishoo bagged the fruit of that, picking up 2 wickets towards the end of his spell.

Now, about Tamim and Shakib. One look at the scorecard and you would feel - awww... the heroes for Bangladesh. But they nearly did the job of villains. The duo did the right thing by seeing off the new-ball bowlers but there needed to be a time when risks should have been taken, especially with 9 wickets in the bank. They left it too late and eventually, the rear part of the innings coincided with the approaching of their milestones. Tamim stayed unbeaten in the end, finishing on a wonderful 130, but any other opener would have gone past 150, having played that long.

The increasing pressure eventually got rid of Shakib who fell for 97 and was followed by Sabbir but then, in walked the pocket-sized dynamo Rahim. His cameo of 30 from 11 in a 50-run stand with Tamim lifted the tempo and that yielded 53 runs from the final 3 overs - more specifically, 43 from the last 2. That has given the bowlers some cushion to bowl at, on a slow, turning track.

A cautious 50-run stand was converted into a flourishing century partnership which continued to blossom enroute the 150-mark. But then, both batsmen were approaching their centuries and hence, perhaps slowed down. Post the 35th over, the boundaries were dried up and all of a sudden, the hosts started to work on the self-imposed pressure by the batsmen.

The start was not that great for the visiting side, with Anamul dismissed for a duck. Then the rain came which made the pitch a bit tacky - which meant that grafting was the order of the day - just 31 came in Powerplay 1. Tamim and Shakib then increased the run rate a bit and also flourished thanks to the generous Windies unit.

Okay... so eventually the tourists manage to set a target of 280. Massively competitive in these conditions. But have they lost the plot a bit in the middle overs where they carried on defensively for too long?

49.6 4

Andre Russell to Mahmudullah. FOUR! Nice way to finish the innings! A short ball around off, Mahmudullah swivels and just helps it over short fine leg to the boundary! BANGLADESH FINISH ON 279/4 - THEIR BEST AGAINST WINDIES IN THE CARIBBEAN.

Mahmudullah is the new man in...

49.5 W

Andre Russell to Mushfiqur Rahim. OUT! That is the end of Rahim. But what a cameo - 30 from just 11 deliveries. No time wasting. Full and around off, the keeper gets across and tries to paddle but it is a weak shot. The ball lobs towards short fine leg where Devendra Bishoo dives to his left and takes a spectacular catch. Is this the match-winning partnership? Probably worth more in gold than the Shakib-Tamim one.

49.4 4

Andre Russell to Mushfiqur Rahim. FOUR! Runs are leaking. Half volley outside off, Mushfiqur slices this behind point and gets a boundary! Moves to 30 from just 10 balls with his third four.

49.3 1

Andre Russell to Tamim Iqbal. Full on middle and leg, swung down to long on for just a single. But that brings up the 50-RUN STAND IN 18 BALLS! Tamim moves to 130 from 160 balls.

49.2 6

Andre Russell to Tamim Iqbal. ANOTHER SIX! A touch short, Iqbal walks down the track and heaves it over mid-wicket!

49.1 6

Andre Russell to Tamim Iqbal. SIX! A full toss to begin the over, outside off, Tamim just leans and launches it over long off! Moves to 123 from 158 with his second six and the stand moves to 43 from 16 balls!

End of Over : 49 22 Runs BAN: 258/3
48.6 4

Jason Holder to Mushfiqur Rahim. FOUR! A boundary to end the over! 22 from it! Full on middle, Rahim backs away and slaps it straight back over the bowler for a boundary! Holder finishes with a pounding - 9-0-47-1.

48.5 6

Jason Holder to Mushfiqur Rahim. SIX! Ho ho ho! Full and outside off, Mushfiqur swipes across the line and sends the ball sailing over mid-wicket! The stand is worth 33 from 14 balls! Rahim himself is on 22 from 8 balls - 2 fours, 2 sixes.

48.4 4

Jason Holder to Mushfiqur Rahim. FOUR! Superb shot. Similar ball, this time Rahim gets across a touch and hammers it wide of mid off, through the covers for a boundary!

48.3 0

Jason Holder to Mushfiqur Rahim. Unlucky. The batsman, that is. He shuffles around in his crease and then backs away to the leg side. Holder bowls it well outside off and MR leaves it alone. Umpire Ravi does not signal a wide. Well outside the guidelines that was.

48.2 2

Jason Holder to Mushfiqur Rahim. A full toss outside off, Mushfiqur slaps hard and slices it over Chris Gayle at backward point. Alzarri Joseph comes running to his right and pushes the ball back in. Two runs taken.

48.1 6

Jason Holder to Mushfiqur Rahim. SIX! SLAUGHTERED! Welcome back, mate! A length ball outside off, slower in pace, Rahim gets down on a knee and mows it over mid-wicket. The stand moves to 21 from 10 balls.

Jason Holder is back on. 8-0-25-1 so far.

End of Over : 48 10 Runs BAN: 236/3
47.6 4

Andre Russell to Tamim Iqbal. FOUR! A heave-ho again. This time it is a length ball and Iqbal swings it over mid-wicket for consecutive boundaries. 10 from the over, the first double-digit over in Powerplay 3. Russell's figures read 8-0-41-0.

47.5 4

Andre Russell to Tamim Iqbal. FOUR! Off the edge this time. A low full toss, outside off, Tamim throws his bat at it and luckily for him, the ball runs off the toe end of the bat, through the vacant slip cordon to the third man fence. Moves to 113 from 156 balls with his 10th FOUR. The stand moves to 11 from 8 balls.

47.4 0

Andre Russell to Tamim Iqbal. Another dot. This time TI does not back away, tries playing the ball from the crease but the ball is on a yorker, moving away from him and beats tehe outside edge.

47.3 0

Andre Russell to Tamim Iqbal. Full and wide outside off, Iqbal is backing down the leg side and hence cannot reach the ball.

47.2 1

Andre Russell to Mushfiqur Rahim. On a length outside off, Rahim waits for the ball to come to him and steers it to Jason Holder at short third man for a run.

47.1 1

Andre Russell to Tamim Iqbal. An off cutter begins the over. Tamim has a wild swipe, months early into the shot and drags it through fine leg for a single.

Andre Russell is back on. 7-0-31-0 so far.

End of Over : 47 6 Runs BAN: 226/3
46.6 1

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. The batsman manages only a bottom edge on that one. One run added to the total.

46.5 1

Devendra Bishoo to Mushfiqur Rahim. The batsman has driven it through mid off. They pick up a single.

46.5 wd

Devendra Bishoo to Mushfiqur Rahim. WIDE. Wide down the leg side, No trouble at all for the batsman. The umpire has signalled a wide.

46.4 2

Devendra Bishoo to Mushfiqur Rahim. Full and outside off, Rahim straightaway employs the reverse sweep and gets it over short third man. By the time Jason Holder can get to the ball, two runs are taken.

Mushfiqur Rahim is the new man in.

46.3 W

Devendra Bishoo to Sabbir Rahman. OUT! STUMPED! Sabbir's misery ends. He has been adjudged out by the on-field umpire itself. Not even referred upstairs. Full and outside off, Rahman lunges to defend but the ball pitches and then spins away, past the outside edge. Shai Hope collects the ball and then whips off the bails. The square leg umpire raises his finger straightaway but uh oh... replays show that the foot did get dragged out of the crease - but AFTER THE BAILS WERE WHIPPED OFF. Tough luck for Sabbir. The third umpire would have saved him there, had he been referred to.

46.2 1

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. Full and on middle, Tamim comes down the track and slogs it towards long on for a single.

46.1 0

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. Full and outside off, driven back to the bowler.

End of Over : 46 9 Runs BAN: 220/2
45.6 1

Alzarri Joseph to Tamim Iqbal. The batsman has driven it through mid on. The batsmen have run through for a single. 10-0-57-2 are Alzarri Joseph's figures.

45.5 4

Alzarri Joseph to Tamim Iqbal. FOUR! A boundary after 64 balls! Full and outside off, Tamim reaches out and drives it behind point. The ball trickles towards the ropes and by the time the fielder from cover can get there, the ball wins the race.

45.4 1

Alzarri Joseph to Sabbir Rahman. DIRECT HIT WOULD HAVE HAD TAMIM. But he survives. Full and outside off, Sabbir drives it towards cover. Initially he sets off for the single and Tamim responds but then he sends his partner back. Iqbal gives it up and the fielder has a shy at the bowler's end - only to miss. They now take the overthrow.

45.3 1

Alzarri Joseph to Tamim Iqbal. Outside off, almost a yorker, pushed towards backward point for one more.

45.2 1

Alzarri Joseph to Sabbir Rahman. Outside off, squeezed through the covers for a run.

45.1 1

Alzarri Joseph to Tamim Iqbal. 10TH ODI TON FOR TAMIM! It is the slowest century by a Bangladesh batsman in one-day cricket, informs Fazeer Mohammed on air. It has taken 146 balls. It has come through grafting and grafting on a sluggish pitch and he has eventually got there. Now, he needs to accelerate. A full ball outside off, the Prince of Chittagong just dabs it towards point and takes off for a quick single. Reaches the other end and celebrates handsomely but the job is not done. In fact, all this effort will go in waste if the visitors do not even touch 250.

End of Over : 45 4 Runs BAN: 211/2
44.6 1

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. The batsman works it down the leg side. They pick up a single. 4 runs and a wicket from the over, Bishoo's figures read 9-0-46-1.

44.5 1

Devendra Bishoo to Sabbir Rahman. Full and outside off, eased through mid off for a run.

44.4 1

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. Driven through mid off by the batsman. One run added to the total.

Sabbir Rahman walks in next, at number 4, replacing Shakib. Bangladesh need boundaries. Just 21/1 in 4.2 overs of Powerplay 3 so far. Mr. Rahman averages just 17 in his last 13 games. Interesting decision to send him at this stage then...

44.3 W

Devendra Bishoo to Shakib Al Hasan. OUT! Shakib does not get to his century! Finally a catch is taken and the 207-run stand is broken. Full and outside off, the southpaw gets down and slog sweeps it towards deep mid-wicket but has mistimed this. His casinoish luck runs out eventually and this time Shimron Hetmyer running to the ball from the deep does not make a mess. Takes the catch cleanly and the Bangla superstar departs 3 short of a ton. He seems extremely unhappy and this is now a good period for the Windies. They have applied the pressure in the last few overs and it has resulted in a wicket.

44.2 1

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. Full and around off, driven through mid on for a single.

44.1 0

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. Full and down the leg side, Tamim misses his flick and is hit on the pads. Wants the single but it is not there as the ball is just beside the keeper.

End of Over : 44 4 Runs BAN: 207/1
43.6 0

Alzarri Joseph to Shakib Al Hasan. Very well bowled. Full and straight, driven straight to cover.

43.5 1

Alzarri Joseph to Tamim Iqbal. Full and straight, flicked to deep mid-wicket for a run.

43.4 0

Alzarri Joseph to Tamim Iqbal. A short ball, more pace being taken off, helped wide of short fine leg for a single.

43.3 0

Alzarri Joseph to Tamim Iqbal. LBW appeal but to no avail. The off cutter, pitched outside leg, Tamim looks to flick but falls over in his attempt. The ball hits his pads and then lobs. Joseph first appeals and then he goes for the catch. Cannot get to the ball but would have got to it had he taken off straightaway. Was there an inside edge? Replays seem to detect two sounds...

43.2 2

Alzarri Joseph to Tamim Iqbal. Very full again, flicked wide of mid-wicket for a couple.

43.1 1

Alzarri Joseph to Shakib Al Hasan. Full and around off, driven straight down the ground through mid off for a single.

Yorker time. Alzarri time. 8-0-44-0 so far. What can he give his captain now, at the back end? A couple of wickets would not be bad...

End of Over : 43 9 Runs BAN: 203/1
42.6 1

Devendra Bishoo to Shakib Al Hasan. Pushed to the cover region by the batsman. One run added to the total.

42.6 wd

Devendra Bishoo to Shakib Al Hasan. ANOTHER WIDE. Too straight from Bishoo, getting one more to spin down the leg side.

42.5 1

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. And now comes the 200-RUN STAND. In 248 balls. Just the second ever for Bangladesh in all ODIs. A simple punch to long on brings up the milestone.

42.4 2

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. A touch short, Iqbal goes back and flicks it through square leg. Runs hard to come back for the second. 200 UP FOR BANGLADESH.

42.3 1

Devendra Bishoo to Shakib Al Hasan. Helped through mid-wicket for one.

42.3 wd

Devendra Bishoo to Shakib Al Hasan. WIDE. Good turn but wrong line. Bishoo pitches this around off and then gets it to spin past Shakib's attempted flick down the leg side.

42.2 1

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. Full on middle and leg, Tamim leans and flicks it through mid-wicket for a run. Moves to 90 from 135 balls.

42.1 1

Devendra Bishoo to Shakib Al Hasan. Short and outside off, punched through the covers for a single.

End of Over : 42 3 Runs BAN: 194/1
41.6 1

41.2 0

Ashley Nurse to Shakib Al Hasan. The batsman shows the full face of the bat and defends the ball off the back foot.

41.1 0

Ashley Nurse to Shakib Al Hasan. Full and outside off, Shakib looks to cut but misses.

End of Over : 41 4 Runs BAN: 191/1
40.6 1

40.5 0

Devendra Bishoo to Shakib Al Hasan. Full on middle, pushed back to the bowler.

40.4 1

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. Goes back and works it through mid-wicket for a run.

40.3 0

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.

40.2 1

Devendra Bishoo to Shakib Al Hasan. Risky. Shakib comes down the track and looks to flick but misses. He is hit on the pads and the Windies appeal, but in vain. The batsmen take a leg bye. The hosts do not take a review probably because of the fact that Shakib was way too far down the track. Hmmm... Hawk Eye shows that it would have clipped the leg stump. It still would have stayed not out though, due to umpire's call. Yesterday, in Colombo, Dhananjaya de Silva was adjudged LBW to Keshav Maharaj in the Sri Lanka-South Africa Test and he was even further down the track than Shakib...

40.1 1

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. Pushes this towards long on for a single.

POWERPLAY 3 time. 5 fielders allowed outside the 30-yard circle. Can Bangladesh get to 300? If Shakib faces all the 60 balls, then even 350 might be possible...

End of Over : 40 6 Runs BAN: 187/1
39.6 2

Ashley Nurse to Shakib Al Hasan. Short and outside off, cut through point for a couple. What a wonderful passage of play for the visitors - 156/0 in 30 overs. In total control. With plenty of help from the opposition.

39.5 1

Ashley Nurse to Tamim Iqbal. Full and outside off, driven towards long off for one.

Pain for Shakib but there is so much gain for him otherwise today. So many chances given, yet he lives on, like a cat.

39.4 1

Ashley Nurse to Shakib Al Hasan. Another long hop, cut in front of point for a quick single. A direct hit would have meant curtains for Shakib but he dives into his crease. Such is his luck that the direct hit does not get affected in the first place and then the bowler fumbles too. Only a piece of bruise for Shakib. Out comes the physio.

39.3 1

Ashley Nurse to Tamim Iqbal. A touch short, punched down to long off for a run.

39.2 0

Ashley Nurse to Tamim Iqbal. Outside off, going straight on, dabbed towards backward point.

39.1 1

Ashley Nurse to Shakib Al Hasan. Short and outside off, cut through point for a single.

End of Over : 39 5 Runs BAN: 181/1
38.6 1

Devendra Bishoo to Shakib Al Hasan. The batsman has driven it through mid on. One run added to the total.

38.5 0

Devendra Bishoo to Shakib Al Hasan. Full and outside off, watchfully defended.

38.4 1

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. Played through mid-wicket by the batsman. The batsmen have run through for a single.

38.3 1

Devendra Bishoo to Shakib Al Hasan. DROPPED! Another one. That casino offer might still be on for Shakib. Another piece of luck. Full and outside off, the southpaw gets down to sweep but ends up dragging it as he is far away from the ball. As a result, a top edge is induced which goes towards short fine leg. Shimron Hetmyer runs a few paces to his right and dives but the ball slips down. Two runs taken.

38.2 1

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. On middle, pushed down to long on for a run.

38.1 1

Devendra Bishoo to Shakib Al Hasan. Short and outside off, spinning in, Shakib backs away and takes it from the line of off stump, cutting the ball through point for a single.

37.6 1

Ashley Nurse to Shakib Al Hasan. The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. The batsmen have run through for a single.

37.5 1

Ashley Nurse to Tamim Iqbal. The batsman gets to the pitch of the ball and connects. The batsmen have run through for a single.

37.4 1

Ashley Nurse to Shakib Al Hasan. Flatter ball, outside off, driven through mid off for one more.

37.3 1

Ashley Nurse to Tamim Iqbal. Full and outside off, pushed through point for a run.

37.2 1

Ashley Nurse to Shakib Al Hasan. Outside off, punched through point for a single.

37.1 0

Ashley Nurse to Shakib Al Hasan. Big appeal for LBW but the umpire is not interested. Very full ball, outside off, Shakib got a long way across to sweep but missed and was hit on the pads. Nurse appealed and even wanted a review but Holder was not too convinced. The impact always seemed to be outside the line and now, in the replays, Snickometer detects a glove.

End of Over : 37 8 Runs BAN: 171/1
36.6 1

Devendra Bishoo to Shakib Al Hasan. Punches this down to long on for one more.

36.5 1

36.2 1

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. On middle and leg, played through mid-wicket for a run.

36.2 wd

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. ANOTHER WIDE. Carbon copy of the previous delivery. Okay wait - my colleague whose observation is as sharp as a knife (we lovingly call him Churi), tells me that the batsman left it alone. So not exactly a carbon copy you see... caught me napping.

36.2 wd

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. WIDE. Pitched around middle, spinning down the leg side, Tamim misses his flick.

36.1 2

Devendra Bishoo to Tamim Iqbal. Down the leg side, flicked past short fine leg for a couple.

DRINKS BREAK. 14 overs left and Bangladesh have a wonderful platform here. They can get anywhere between 90-120 which means close to 275 on an average. But can they do that? Windies will believe they can pull things back with a breakthrough. But who will deliver that? Well, Devendra Bishoo might have something to say about that. 4-0-17-0 so far.

End of Over : 36 3 Runs BAN: 163/1
35.6 1

Ashley Nurse to Tamim Iqbal. The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. The batsmen have run through for a single.

35.5 0

Ashley Nurse to Tamim Iqbal. Full and around off, Tamim lunges to block.

35.4 1

Ashley Nurse to Shakib Al Hasan. Short and outside off, cut through point for a run.

35.3 0

Ashley Nurse to Shakib Al Hasan. Full and outside off, Al Hasan gets down and tries a swipe, only to miss. The ball goes over the stumps and Shai Hope whips the bails off. No stumping appeal because as can be seen from the replays, the back foot is in.

35.2 0

Ashley Nurse to Shakib Al Hasan. Short and outside off, cut straight to point.

35.1 1

Ashley Nurse to Tamim Iqbal. The batsman flicks it away with a wristy shot. They pick up a single.

The Windies are wounded. They need medicine. Who better than a 'Nurse' to deliver that? 6-0-22-0 so far.

End of Over : 35 12 Runs BAN: 160/1
34.6 4

Jason Holder to Shakib Al Hasan. FOUR! Up and over! Are Bangladesh teeing off? Full and outside off, Shakib backs away and lofts it over mid off for a boundary! 12 from the over, Holder's figures now read 8-0-25-1.

34.5 2

Jason Holder to Shakib Al Hasan. Comes down the track and mistimes his shot over cover for a brace again.

34.4 2

Jason Holder to Shakib Al Hasan. Banged in short, pulled away through mid-wicket for a couple.

34.3 0

Jason Holder to Shakib Al Hasan. Full and outside off, driven straight to mid off.

34.2 4

Jason Holder to Shakib Al Hasan. FOUR! THE 150-RUN STAND IS UP! This keeps getting better and better for the visiting side. Down the leg side, Shakib gets across and whips it behind square leg for a boundary!

34.1 0

Jason Holder to Shakib Al Hasan. A short ball, around off, pulled straight to Chris Gayle at short mid-wicket.

End of Over : 34 6 Runs BAN: 148/1

33.3 0

Alzarri Joseph to Tamim Iqbal. Excellent yorker, well dug out.

33.2 0

Alzarri Joseph to Tamim Iqbal. Backs away to the leg side and on seeing that, Joseph fires it well outside off. Tamim cannot reach it and has to let it go. No wide signalled and rightly so, considering the position of Tamim.

33.1 0

Alzarri Joseph to Tamim Iqbal. Full on middle anad leg, flicked straight to mid-wicket.

Jason Holder is walking off the ground. He had tweaked his hamstring a few moments ago and hence, is going for a precautionary check-up, as per the on-air commentator Jeffrey Dujon. Kieran Powell is on as his substitute.

End of Over : 33 1 Runs BAN: 142/1
32.6 0

Jason Holder to Shakib Al Hasan. That ball has taken the inside edge of the batsman and thudded into his pads.

32.5 0

Jason Holder to Shakib Al Hasan. LUCKY AGAIN! Well, if Shakib were to play poker today, he would become a millionaire overnight. Full on middle, Al Hasan gets down to sweep but misses. Now, here is his first piece of luck on this ball. He should have been plumb LBW but such is his luck that the ball goes off his gloves and lobs towards short third man. Now here is his second piece of luck. He comes looking for the single as Tamim also responds. But then, the Prince of Chittagong changes his mind and sends him back. Shakib seems gone for all money as he slips and then tries to dive into his crease. Should have been run out. Could have been run out. But the fielder misses his shy at the striker's end. Wow. Just replace that second 'w' of that word with an 'e' for the Windies.

32.4 0

Jason Holder to Shakib Al Hasan. Comes down the track and blasts it towards cover.

32.3 0

Jason Holder to Shakib Al Hasan. Outside off, played straight to point.

32.2 1

Jason Holder to Tamim Iqbal. A full toss, on middle, flicked through mid-wicket for a single.

32.1 0

Jason Holder to Tamim Iqbal. On a length around middle, watchfully defended.

Jason Holder is back on. He needs to do something desperately for his side, especially after a wonderful opening spell - 6-0-12-1.

End of Over : 32 5 Runs BAN: 141/1
31.6 1

Alzarri Joseph to Tamim Iqbal. A full toss, flicked through mid-wicket for one more. The stand is now worth 140 from 183 balls. But what a lovely over from the youngster.

31.5 0

Alzarri Joseph to Tamim Iqbal. One more yorker! Tamim loses his balance and gets the crowd to life. They cheer and applaud but then calm down once they see the batsmen take a run. The ball goes to square leg.

31.4 1

Alzarri Joseph to Shakib Al Hasan. Magnificently bowled again. One more yorker, Al Hasan manages to dig it out again. Somehow the ball rolls to the off side and the batsmen pinch one again.

31.3 1

Alzarri Joseph to Tamim Iqbal. Now bowls this short, Tamim looks to pull but is hurried into it, due to Alzarri's pace and mistimes his shot towards fine leg. A run taken.

31.2 1

Alzarri Joseph to Shakib Al Hasan. Superb ball. A pinpoint yorker, around leg, Shakib somehow digs it out towards square leg and takes a run.

31.1 1

Alzarri Joseph to Tamim Iqbal. On a length around off, the cutter, angling away, calmly steered to third man for a single.

End of Over : 31 6 Runs BAN: 136/1
30.6 1

Andre Russell to Tamim Iqbal. A long hop, dragged through mid-wicket for one more. 6 balls, 6 singles in that over. Could have had a wicket. Should have had a wicket.

30.5 1

Andre Russell to Shakib Al Hasan. Outside off, a tap and run from Shakib to the off side. THIS IS NOW THE HIGHEST EVER STAND FOR BANGLADESH FOR ANY WICKET IN THE WEST INDIES.

30.4 1

Andre Russell to Tamim Iqbal. On middle and leg, helped through mid-wicket for a run.

30.3 1

Andre Russell to Shakib Al Hasan. The batsman guides it to third man. They pick up a single.

30.2 1

Andre Russell to Tamim Iqbal. Full and outside off, driven through the covers for a single.

Andre Russell to Shakib Al Hasan. TOP EDGE, BUT WHY IS IT NOT TAKEN? Only Gayle can answer that. A short ball around middle and leg, Shakib looks to pull but the bounce gets big on him. He gets a top edge which goes in the air, somewhere not far from short mid-wicket. Chris Gayle has to jog just a few yards to his left but even then he cannot get there! Now that is a poor effort. One understands that he is not the fittest man on the ground but still... what a reprieve and that too, at this stage. A single taken.

DRINKS BREAK. If you are thinking - 'Wow! 21 overs before the first Drinks Break!' then hold on to your horses. We have had so many overs simply because the clouds could not bear us watching and covering an uninterrupted game. There was a brief rain delay for around 15-20 minutes and hence the scorecard is showing what it is showing right now. A wonderful recovery by Shakib and Tamim after losing Anamul early. Both have played with their luck, both have been given lives and now, both are settling in nicely. Andre Russell to Shakib Al Hasan. A short ball, pulled straight to short mid-wicket.

We're back! All of a sudden, the rain disappeared, everything got cleared and the players are back on the field.

So let us do a small summary of the innings. Were Bangladesh right in batting first? Maybe the overhead conditions tricked them into doing so. When the captains came for the toss, it seemed bright and sunny but then it got overcast. Many a times, batsmen get out mainly due to the fact that they are expecting rain around the corner and that exactly has consumed Anamul. If this does end up being a start-stop game, Mashrafe might wish that the toss happens again. Stay tuned...

This was coming... the drizzle was getting heavier by the minute and the umpires have called for the covers. Only the two right now as it seems to be a passing shower. And indeed, the clouds seem to have been blown away with just a small portion of grey left. There are plenty of blue skies visible but just as I type that, an additional cover is brought in. Fingers crossed.

3.4 1

Jason Holder to Shakib Al Hasan. Excellent from Lewis! That is one good thing with this 'new' Windies side. Fielding. They have remarkably improved and this is a testament to that. Outside off, Shakib plays this through point and seems to have found the gap. But Evin Lewis throws himself to his left from backward point and stops it cleanly. Then immediately has a shy at the striker's end but misses. Tamim was in though.

Shakib Al Hasan walks in at number 3, replacing Anamul.

1.3 W

Jason Holder to Anamul Haque. OUT! This time Anamul fishes and is caught! Early success for Holder. So easy for him, isn't it? He is just fresh from a 11-wicket haul in the second Test and has already struck with his third ball. Similar line to the previous delivery. Full and outside off, not too wide but not too close. A teaser is the word. Anamul left the ball previously but this time he goes after it. Looks to defend but the hint of away movement takes the edge. Straight to Ashley Nurse at second slip. Classical outswinger from Holder, just taking it away and inducing the mistake.

Andre Russell to Tamim Iqbal. On a length around middle, tucked towards square leg.

The dark clouds come nearer and nearer as the conditions get more and more overcast. The wind has picked up too. Cannot help but think that a shower is about to come. The players are already in the middle. Andre Russell will bowl first up with the first new ball. Tamim Iqbal to face. Anamul Haque is his partner. Here we go!

Andre Russell is having a chat with Fazeer Mohammed. Admits that there is a little bit of anxiety coming into this game owing to the big gap but he is excited all the same. States that T20s are totally different from ODIs and that is the main reason for his anxiety as he has not played too much of List A cricket of late. Praises his unit for qualifying for the World Cup in the Qualifiers in Zimbabwe. Is excited, like the others, to see Chris Gayle playing and hopes he sets the stage on fire. Is hopeful of maintaining their dominance by using the experience of the seniors in this Windies side. Says that he has only one state of mind - to be positive and has started thinking more about the game. On the youngsters, he says that there is nothing much to worry as most of them are already exposed to the game.

Windies captain, Jason Holder, is not too perturbed and says that he was not too sure what to do first as the last time they played here, it became a good pitch to bat on in the second innings. Hopes to use the early morning moisture and take some quick wickets upfront. Admits that the 2019 World Cup is in their minds but for now, their main concentration is to win this series. Is happy that the 'superstars' are back - namely Andre Russell and Chris Gayle.

Mashrafe Mortaza, the one-day skipper, admits that it was tough for Bangladesh in the Test matches but ODIs are a different format and hopes that they put a good total today. Cites the reason as their success during the 2007 ODI World Cup, where they batted first in the Caribbean and defended totals successfully. Informs that there have been plenty of changes from the Test side - with a mixture of youth and experience.

TOSS TIME! Tails is the call and it is a Tail. BANGLADESH WILL BAT FIRST.

PITCH REPORT - Jeffrey Dujon doing the report says that the pitch looks so dry that there are some very significant cracks in it already. The surface is solid though. The ball should come onto the bat but the bounce should be moderate. Because of the sheen on top of the track, the spinners will not get too much of turn, he says. Win the toss and bat first, opines Dujon.

WEATHER - Did I say blown away in the Tests? May be. For now, we hope that a huge swarm of dark clouds get 'blown away' as in a matter of 15 minutes, it has gone from being nice, warm and sunny to being overcast. Hopefully, we get an uninterrupted game.

One of the gorgeous venues in South America welcomes us to the first ODI between Windies and Bangladesh. Nothing much to talk about the Tests as far as Bangladesh are concerned as they were blown away. Hopefully, we get some sort of a contest in the ODIs and T20Is. Hello and a warm welcome!

End of Over : 50.0 WI: 231/9

That concludes our coverage for this game. It turned out to be a pretty one-sided affair much like the Test matches, although Bangladesh were the dominant side for a change. The venue for the second ODI remains the same but it will be a day-night contest. Do join us at 1430 local (1830 GMT) on 25th July for all the action. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!

Winning Bangladesh skipper, Mashrafe Mortaza says that it's tiring but his knee is alright. Says that he has not bowled much in the last few months but he enjoyed on the ground today. Adds that they just need to play with heart and whatever gone is gone and they wanted to start well in this series. Hopes to carry the form forward. Reminds us that they won against South Africa in 2007 and feels that the pitch here suits them. Praises Shakib and Tamim for their knocks and lauds Rahim's cameo as well.

Tamim Iqbal is the Man of the Match for his fine century. He says it was tough going for them and the first 10 overs were very difficult. Feels the wicket became easier after the 25th over. States that they had a score in mind and luckily Rahim played a handy cameo to take them there. Admits they didn't play good cricket in Tests but this is the format they play their best. Further adds that they wanted to play their 'A' game and is glad that they managed to do so.

Jason Holder, the Windies skipper, says that Bangladesh played some good cricket and rues their death bowling. Adds that they created chances as a bowling unit and needed partnerships while batting. Feels that they need to execute their plans well and need to bat better. Mentions about preparing well for the next game and talking about their plans. Is immediate to say that they had plans today also but it didn't work as they didn't hold on to their chances.

It was a sorry batting card for the hosts and the fact that their last wicket partnership was their best effort of the innings really tells the story. Credit should be given to the Bangladesh bowlers for the way they bowled. They executed their plan accurately and every bowler played his role. The tourists managed to create pressure right from the beginning which resulted in the fall of wickets at regular intervals. Earlier, the double century stand between Shakib and Tamim along with the cameo by Rahim powered Bangladesh to a challenging total. In fact, the quickfire stand between Rahim and Tamim in a way proved to the differential factor. Altogether, a convincing win for the Asian team to begin the series.

It wasn't an easy pitch for stroke making and once Bangladesh took their total past 250, it became even tougher for the home team. Despite having two powerhouses opening for them, Windies never got going. Chris Gayle adopted a cautious approach where he was concentrating more on the singles while Evin Lewis' stay was a short one. Shai failed to give enough hope and once Chris Gayle got run out, the run chase fell flat on its face. Shimron Hetmyer did try to revive his team's fortune by forming a few useful partnerships but he also departed soon after completing his half century.

Bangladesh taste their first success on this tour. The Test series was a dismal one for them but the change in leadership has brought them luck. Mashrafe Mortaza surely knows how to guide these bunch of boys and the skipper himself led from the front. In spite of not being fully fit, he bowled beautifully, mixing his pace and length, and finished with a 4-wicket haul. All in all, a clinical bowling performance by them, although the last wicket partnership put a little bit of blemish as it really tested their patience.

49.6 0

Mustafizur Rahman to Devendra Bishoo. They have done it. Windies have done it. No they have not won the game but they have managed to not get bowled out. The last wicket partnership really frustrated the Bangla bowlers for 56 balls. The last delivery was a shorter one to which Bishoo swung his bat and missed. All over, BANGLADESH WIN BY 48 RUNS!

48.1 4

Rubel Hossain to Devendra Bishoo. FOUR! Misfield in the deep! Also that was crisply struck by Bishoo. He takes his front leg away from the line of the delivery and whips it down to wide long on. Mashrafe Mortaza to Alzarri Joseph. Pushed to the cover region by the batsman. They pick up a single.

Alzarri Joseph is the last batsman.

40.4 W

Mashrafe Mortaza to Ashley Nurse. OUT! Wicket number 4 for the inspirational skipper. He certainly has made this team look like a completely different unit. Another slower delivery has fooled the batsman. Nurse spots the opportunity to swing his blade across the line since the line is quite wide outside off. But he gets tricked by the slowness of the delivery. Just like Russell did, he also spoons a catch towards long on and Mahmudullah is not dropping it. Just one more needed to take the series lead.

40.3 2

Mashrafe Mortaza to Ashley Nurse. Plays it with gentle hands to mid-wicket, no one inside the ring and they pinch a couple of runs.

Devendra Bishoo is the new batsman.

38.5 W

Mashrafe Mortaza to Andre Russell. OUT! Mortaza strikes again. He is a very clever bowler. Knows that the batsman will be looking to go after him. Takes the pace off the ball and delivers it with a scrambled seam. Russell exposes all his stumps and then tries to yank it over the leg side. Fails to time it properly due to the lack of pace and balloons his shot high in the air. Mahmudullah settles underneath it at long on and rest is history. This in all likelihood is the last nail in the coffin for the home team.

38.4 0

Mashrafe Mortaza to Andre Russell. Slower bouncer this time, Russell allows it through thinking it to be too high. One for the over, signals the square leg umpire.

37.5 4

Mustafizur Rahman to Andre Russell. FOUR! That's murdered! Nearly takes the heads of the non-striker and the umpire along with it. Once again Dre Russ attacks the length ball outside off with all his might. Hammers it straight back and it whizzes past Nurse and the umpire. Reaches the fence in the blink of an eye. Sheer power. Game on as long as Russell is alive in this chase! 11 from the over, so far.

37.4 6

Mustafizur Rahman to Andre Russell. SIX! That's gigantic! They will take some time to find the ball. Rahman angles across a length ball outside off, Russell clears his front leg, fetches it from there and launches it massively over mid-wicket. On the roof and out of the stadium. 104m on the radar.

36.6 0

Mashrafe Mortaza to Andre Russell. Bouncer! The batsman ducks in time to let that one go over him.

Ashley Nurse is in next.

36.5 W

Mashrafe Mortaza to Jason Holder. OUT! Mortaza gets his revenge next ball. Foxes his counterpart with an off pace delivery. Serves it on a length around off and Holder is early into his attempted heave across the line. Gets a big top edge and it loops in the air behind the bowler. Mosaddek runs back a bit from mid off and then moves across to his right to take the skier safely. Bangladesh are on the march, just 3 away from tasting their first win on a hapless tour for them thus far.

36.4 6

Mashrafe Mortaza to Jason Holder. SIX! Captain v Captain and Holder has clubbed this one. Mortaza is on the shorter side around off, at his pace it's bread and butter as Jason powers it over wide long on.

35.3 W

Mustafizur Rahman to Rovman Powell. OUT! Caught behind! Plenty of 'Fizz' on this delivery. Zipping away off the turf after landing on a length outside off, Powell with a tentative footwork has a poke inside the line and gets a faint outside edge behind to Rahim. The catch is taken and Rahman is on fire. Windies dwindling in this run chase.

Rovman Powell is the new batsman.

35.2 W

Mustafizur Rahman to Shimron Hetmyer. OUT! The set batsman is removed from the crease. Timely breakthrough for Bangladesh. We have seen many times in the past that a break in play brings a wicket. Hetmyer is dejected as he trudges back to the pavilion. Rahman slants in a back of a length delivery around middle, Shimron shimmies down the track attempting a big shot but is too close to the line of the ball. He still goes on with his shot and ends up chipping a straightforward catch to Shakib Al Hasan at extra cover. He makes no mistake and Windies lose their fifth wicket.

35.1 1

Mustafizur Rahman to Jason Holder. Full and angling away from the batsman, Holder strides forward and drives it down through mid off for a run.

Mustafizur Rahman is back into the attack.

Drinks break. 1 run from the last over, 20 in the last 5, Bangladesh are keeping a tight lid on the scoring rate. The required run rate is now 9.33. Pressure mounting on the hosts. 140 needed off 90 balls. Hetmyer holds the key as he has got accustomed to the pitch. In Andre Russell they possess a deadly weapon but the current partnership will have to take it deeper. Exciting finish on the cards if that happens.

28.2 W

Mehidy Hasan to Jason Mohammed. OUT! Sharp catch and Rahim takes no chance as he does the stumping as well. A flighted off spinner, landing around off and not spinning much. Mohammed hurries down the track and tries to heave it over the leg side. His intention is to go with the spin which is minimal on this occasion and hence as a result he gets a thick outside edge behind. Rahim catches the ball and then inflicts the stumping. For a moment, I thought it's just a stumping then wondered how come the ball spun away from an offie. Mehidy doesn't possess a doosra as far as I know. The replays however confirm about the edge. Windies continue to lose wickets at regular intervals.

Jason Mohammed is the new batsman.

21.3 W

Mosaddek Hossain to Shimron Hetmyer. OUT! Gayle is run out! A critical blow to Windies. The Jamaican was very proactive in taking singles in this innings and eventually that keenness has cost him his wicket. A tossed up delivery around off, spinning away a bit, Hetmyer this time leans forward in defense and it goes off the outside half of the bat to short third man. Gayle sets off in search of a run, it's always a non-striker's call in such cases but his partner is not sure and stays at his crease. Chris has no option but to return but before he could do that, Mahmudullah has fired in the throw to the bowler who just flicks it onto the stumps. Gayle ain't in the frame and Bangladesh are delighted. The hosts need one less than 200 off 171 balls.

21.2 0

18.3 1

Rubel Hossain to Chris Gayle. Ouch, that would have hurt Hetmyer. What was Mosaddek aiming at? A length ball on off, Gayle taps it down towards short third man and crosses for a quick run. Mosaddek attacks the ball and rather than aiming at the stumps he ends up aiming at the batsman who was running quite wide. Shimron cops a blow on his body but doesn't show much pain

17.1 0

Mosaddek Hossain to Shimron Hetmyer. Flatter and shorter on off, cut from the back foot to point.

Drinks break. The going so far has been slow from the Windies and they have lost a couple of wickets as well. Bangladesh would believe that they have the upper hand at the moment but with Chris Gayle in the middle, they can least afford to relax. The Jamaican has adopted a different approach today and is concentrating more on singles rather than the big shots. Let's see how the next phase pans out.

End of Over : 17 10 Runs WI: 67/2
16.6 1

15.6 0

Mosaddek Hossain to Shimron Hetmyer. Quicker on off, Hetmyer walks forward and gets an inside edge onto the pads.

15.5 1

Mosaddek Hossain to Chris Gayle. NOT OUT! A slider by Hossain, around off and skidding back in, Gayle uses his feet and tries to knock it down the ground but fails to middle his shot properly. It appears to have hit the pad first and then the bat and as a result the Bangladesh players appeal. The umpire remains unmoved and this time Mortaza consults his bowler rather than Rahim (who got it wrong the last time) before signalling for the DRS. The replays roll in, they confirm that the ball has hit the pad first and then show it to be clipping the leg stump. Umpire's call. With the batsman so much down the track, it's always a dicey call to take the review. Anyway, they don't lose it. The batsmen cross which was initially given as a leg bye but then corrected to a run.

Huge scream for an lbw! Not given again and Mortaza consults his bowler before taking the DRS.

15.4 1

A delivery in line of the stumps, angling in and Hope tries to flick it on the leg side after shuffling across the line. Misses to get rapped on the pads, they let out a huge cry in lbw and up goes the finger. Hope has a little chat with Gayle who advises not to take the DRS. Now then, the replays show that it's missing leg. Two balls and two wrong calls. One benefiting Windies another benefiting Bangladesh. 239 needed off 227 balls.

Rubel Hossain is the first bowling change.

End of Over : 12 7 Runs WI: 41/1
11.6 0

Mehidy Hasan to Chris Gayle. Huge shout for an lbw! Not given and Rahim advises against taking the DRS. Dear me, the replays later on show that it's hit Gayle in line and is going on to hit the leg stump. Big reprieve for the Jamaican. It's a slider around off, skidding in and catching Gayle on the front pad who failed to put bat on ball in his attempted forward defense. The bowler was interested in taking the review but the keeper wasn't of the same opinion. Hmm...

11.5 0

Mehidy Hasan to Chris Gayle. Leans forward to a full ball and gets an inside edge onto the pads.

11.4 6

Mehidy Hasan to Chris Gayle. SIX! The giant has woken up from his slumber. Floated full outside off, enough room there for Gayle to exercise his arms and he spanks it over mid off for a maximum. With this biggie, Gayle now tops the list for most runs in Bangladesh-Windies ODIs.

11.3 0

Mehidy Hasan to Chris Gayle. Darts one in, from around off, a slider, Gayle is forward again and plays it off his pads to the leg side. Had he missed that, he was a plumb lbw candidate.
