A target in excess of 300 is always tough to overhaul and with the pitch behaving on the slower side, it won't be easy for Bangladesh. They are also without Shakib and Liton, who were in good form of late, and will have to plan this chase really carefully. The less said about Bangladesh the better. It seemed as if they were still tired from their World Cup campaign. Their bowling was not that good at the start and their fielding was lethargic too. At one stage it seemed that Sri Lanka would cross the 350-run mark but the Tigers managed to pull things back a bit in the latter part of the innings. The pick of the bowlers for them would be Shafiul Islam who was a tad bit expensive but did take 3 wickets. Once again Soumya Sarkar proved his worth with the ball, just like he did during the recently concluded World Cup, and bowled five tidy overs where he bagged the prized scalp of the centurion.

In spite of bowling well in the last 10 overs, it's a big target in front of Bangladesh. Initially, the Lankans did not get off to the best of starts as they lost Fernando early on. But then, Kusal Perera alongwith skipper Dimuth Karunaratne took charge of the innings. They made a 97-run stand for the 2nd wicket which laid the foundation for the batsmen coming in. Kusal Perera completed a 100-run stand with Kusal Mendis as well before departing for 111 off 99 balls. Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews also played good knocks of 43 and 48 runs respectively. Lasith Malinga also came out to bat to a loud cheer and a standing ovation in his final ODI.

69/4 in the last 10 overs and Bangladesh will be really happy with their work at the death. They bowled very accurately and didn't allow the Lankan batsmen to score freely.

However, the highlight of the day will be the farewell for the golden-haired pacer, Lasith Malinga who will be playing his last ODI match for his nation. Sri Lanka will be looking to give their hero a winning farewell and as for Bangladesh, they will be looking to take the lead in the 3-match series and stake a strong claim of winning their first ODI series on Sri Lankan soil. Bangladesh is led by stand-in skipper Tamim Iqbal as Mashrafe Murtaza is out injured with a calf strain. Another notable absentee for Bangladesh is probably the best all-rounder of the world, Shakib Al Hasan. Bangladesh will be hoping that their absence is not felt too much.
