New Zealand vs Bangladesh Highlights And Cricket Score 2nd Match - Test Commentary

End of Over : 61.0 BAN: 211/10

211. New Zealand will now look to bat just once and fast in this game. The light was fading a bit and it might get worse in the third session. Let us hope for the play to go on as long as possible as the players sip on a cup of tea before they come back for the final session of play. Join us for that in a bit...

The innings began beautifully for the away side, with Tamim Iqbal and Shadman Islam stitching a 75-run stand. Post that though, there was nothing of any significance. Wagner was introduced after 30 overs of the innings but provided immediate impact. The short ball barrage continued from where it left off in the first Test and the Bangladesh batsmen threw their wickets. No partnerships down the order meant the innings folded at a sorry total in terms of the start they got. Wagner picked up 4 wickets, while Boult picked up 3. The other 3 pacers had 1 each to their credit. Kane Williamson would have surely taken this at the toss, to bowl out the opposition in a couple of sessions means there is still hope for a result in this Test that saw a couple of days being washed out.

What a stunning turnaround this has been from the hosts! Bangladesh have been bowled out for 211 after being 119/1 at one stage. In fact, the last 4 wickets were lost for 5 runs. Neil Wagner was the star once more, starting the damage while Trent Boult came back in the end to wipe off the tail. Mahmudullah said at the toss that they will have to be careful not to repeat the mistake of throwing away the chance to score big in the first innings after getting a start, but that is exactly what has happened here.

60.6 W

Trent Boult to Abu Jayed. OUT! Full and straight! You miss, I hit stuff from Trent Boult. Ends with three wickets. The yorker from Boult, Jayed charges down the ground to hit that ball but fails to make contact and the stumps are disturbed. Bangladesh are bowled out for 211! IT WILL ALSO BE TEA ON DAY 3!

60.5 0

Trent Boult to Abu Jayed. On a good length on off, Jayed defends it off the back foot.

60.4 0

Trent Boult to Abu Jayed. Bowls a yorker on middle, Jayed does well to dig it out.

60.3 4

Trent Boult to Abu Jayed. FOUR! Good shot. Full on middle, Jayed drives it straight past the bowler through mid off for a boundary.

60.2 0

Trent Boult to Abu Jayed. Short of a length delivery outside off, Jayed looks to play the upper cut but misses it.

60.1 0

Trent Boult to Abu Jayed. Fuller one on middle from Boult, Jayed defends it back to the bowler.

End of Over : 60 1 Runs BAN: 207/9
59.6 0

Tim Southee to Ebadot Hossain. Almost the end of the innings! A peach outside off from Southee, shaping away late in the end. The ball goes past the outside edge as Hossain looked to defend.

Ebadot Hossain is the last man in.

59.5 W

Tim Southee to Liton Das. OUT! Nine down! A length ball outside off, Liton Das tries to come outside the line of the ball and then play it past the slips for a single down to third man but all he can do is to hit it in the air and straight to Kane Williamson at gully. He is not dropping those. Southee has his first wicket. Bangladesh have lost their last three wickets for one run.

59.4 0

Tim Southee to Liton Das. On off, Das taps it to point.

End of Over : 59 1 Runs BAN: 206/8
58.6 W

Trent Boult to Mustafizur Rahman. OUT! Timberrrr! That was a brainfade moment from Mustafizur there. A length ball on the off stump line from Boult, Rahman leaves the ball and watches in bewilderment as the ball goes striaght on to knock the off stump in front of his eyes. He is in shock there as to how the stumps have been disturbed. Maybe he took a wrong guard or expected the ball to swing away or to bounce more, no one will know but Boult is surely happy there. Second wicket for him in the over.

58.5 0

Trent Boult to Mustafizur Rahman. Fuller one on the pads, Mustafizur looks to flick but the ball goes off the pads towards short leg. No appeal for LBW as the ball was outside the line.

Mustafizur Rahman walks in next at number 9.

58.4 W

Trent Boult to Taijul Islam. OUT! Three reds and Taijul has to continue walking as the on-field decision will remain. Boult has his first! A fuller length ball landing on middle and going on straight with the angle. Taijul looks to flick it away through the leg side but misses the ball and gets hit on the pads in front of the stumps. The appeal follows and so does the finger. The batsman after consulting his partner takes the review but the replays show that the ball was hitting leg stump. Islam also takes a review along with him. 3 left now for New Zealand to wrap up this innings.

Review time... Taijul has been adjudged LBW to Boult but he has taken this upstairs. Does not look like there was any bat on it. Only the ball missing leg stump can save him. Let's see what the replays have to say...

58.3 0

Trent Boult to Taijul Islam. Bouncer on middle! Taijul looks to duck under the ball but is on the floor as he got so low.

55.6 0

Tim Southee to Liton Das. On a good length on off, Liton keeps it out.

55.5 0

55.5 1

Tim Southee to Liton Das. NO BALL! Too many bouncers in the over. 200 up for Bangladesh. Bowls a bouncer, Liton ducks underneath it. The umpire gives Southee a warning.

55.3 0

Tim Southee to Liton Das. Length delivery on off, Das plays it to point.

55.2 0

Tim Southee to Liton Das. Bowls a bouncer, Liton does well to duck under it.

The physio is out in the middle to check Liton's finger. Das looked to be in some pain but seems to be fine to continue. Meanwhile, the umpires are discussing the light issue again. The light glasses are out but the on-field umpires have told the fourth umpire not to come on yet with the light-reading machine.

55.1 0

Tim Southee to Liton Das. On a good length on off, Das defends off the back foot and he gets hit on the glove. He is in pain.

The umpires had a chat in the middle of overs, and came together to check the light. They feel it is okay right now for play to continue...

55.1 wd

Tim Southee to Liton Das. WIDE! Bowls it down the leg side, Das leaves it alone.

End of Over : 55 0 Runs BAN: 198/6
54.6 0

Neil Wagner to Taijul Islam. Drops just short again! Short length ball on the pads of Taijul, he looks to pull it but the ball goes uppishly and without timing towards square. Raval comes inward trying to take that catch but the ball does not have enough on it to carry to diving Jeet. Lucky for Islam.

53.3 0

53.2 1

Tim Southee to Liton Das. Just short of Taylor! A short length ball to the right-hander from around the wicket by Southee at the ribs. Liton looks to pull but is not in control, almost hitting it to short fine leg. The ball though dips on Ross there and he makes a half stop diving to his left, allows for a single to be taken.

53.1 1

Tim Southee to Taijul Islam. Short of a length delivery, Islam looks to pull but gets a top edge. It goes towards third man for a single.

End of Over : 53 6 Runs BAN: 195/6
52.6 4

Neil Wagner to Liton Das. FOUR! That is a good shot! A short length ball from around the wicket to the right-hander, Das gets outside the line by moving away from leg stump. He hits it through point for a boundary.

52.5 1

Neil Wagner to Taijul Islam. The batsman has flicked the ball off his pads. One run added to the total.

52.4 0

Neil Wagner to Taijul Islam. Another short length ball on the leg stump line, Islam looks to do the same thing as the previous ball but fails to put bat on ball.

52.3 0

Neil Wagner to Taijul Islam. That is a brilliant take down the leg side! It is followed by a big appeal but the umpire is unmoved. The ball has come off the sides of the batsman. A short length ball on the leg stump line, Taijul looks to come inside the line and glance it fine but misses the ball and gets hit on the hip. The ball goes to the right of Watling who dives and takes the ball superbly, almost colliding with Kane Williamson at short fine leg. An appeal follows but a good decision is made by the umpire.

52.2 0

Neil Wagner to Taijul Islam. Bouncer on middle! The batsman looks to pull it away but the extra bounce on that ball takes it over the head of the batsman.

52.1 1

Neil Wagner to Liton Das. Short of a length on the leg stump line, Liton drops his hand as he plays that ball. It goes off the outside edge through the slips for a single down to third man.

End of Over : 49 1 Runs BAN: 168/6
48.6 0

Neil Wagner to Taijul Islam. On a length on middle, defended by Islam onto the surface.

Drinks break! In the hour since Lunch, 3 wickets have fallen and all of them have been lost to poor shots off short pitch bowling, completely unnecessary. Soumya Sarkar, Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah are all back in the pavillion. Liton Das is the last recognised batsman left in the middle and will look to do something alone with the new batsman who has joined him in the middle, Taijul Ahmed. The hosts, on the other hand, will look to wrap up the tail quickly.

48.5 W

Neil Wagner to Mahmudullah. OUT! Wagner has his fourth! Mahmudullah who was hopping around and defending the short balls so far has finally become prey to the short ball. He looks really disappointed but the fact is he will have to go. A short length ball on top of middle, Mahmudullah looks to come inside the line and to pull it on the toes. He tries to play the ball along the ground but the ball goes off the leading edge and in the air towards de Grandhomme at square leg who picks up a dolly. Number 4 for Wagner and number 6 for New Zealand. This is some special stuff from the left-arm fast bowler!

48.4 0

Neil Wagner to Mahmudullah. Length delivery on off, the skipper plays it to point.

48.3 0

Neil Wagner to Mahmudullah. On a good length on middle, Mahmudullah keeps it out.

47.3 0

Matt Henry to Mahmudullah. Pushed towards point by Mahmudullah.

47.2 0

Matt Henry to Mahmudullah. Short of a length outside off, played towards point. The non-striker backed up a long way and the point fielder throws the ball at the bowler's end. Boult who was moved to mid on backs up but fails to stop the ball again. No overthrow though. A laugh for all the fielders there.

47.1 4

Matt Henry to Mahmudullah. FOUR! Nice shot. Poor fielding by Trent Boult at covers. Full toss outside off, Mahmudullah drives it through covers where Boult lets it go through him for a boundary.

End of Over : 47 1 Runs BAN: 159/5
46.6 0

Neil Wagner to Liton Das. Dabbed down to point by Liton. The point fielder is a little deep and the batsmen think of a single but decide against it in the end, wisely.

46.5 0

Neil Wagner to Liton Das. Short of a length on middle, Das looks to come outside the line and then hit it over slips but fails to put bat on ball.

46.4 1

Neil Wagner to Mahmudullah. Ouch! Bouncer hits the helmet and goes towards the leg side. Short on middle, Mahmudullah is late to react to the ball and before he can sway or duck, the ball pings off the helmet and goes to the leg side. The batsmen pick up a single and the umpire gives it as a leg bye. On replays, we hear two noises that suggest to us that the ball might have gone off the glove before going on to hit the grill.

46.3 0

Neil Wagner to Mahmudullah. Bouncer on middle, the batsman stands on his toes and keeps it down towards short leg once more.

46.2 0

Neil Wagner to Mahmudullah. On a short length once more aimed at the hips, Mahmudullah looks to work it on the leg side but plays it straight at short leg.

44.4 0

Neil Wagner to Liton Das. Ouch! Hit on the grill! A bouncer on middle, Das drops his hands and looks to sway out of the way. The ball though is really quick and gets him on the helmet before rolling to the keeper. The bowlers and the fielders ask the batsman if he is okay, he responds with a thumbs up.

44.3 0

Neil Wagner to Liton Das. Bouncer on leg stump line, Das ducks under the ball and lets it go.

44.2 0

Neil Wagner to Liton Das. Well defended by Liton off the back foot to this short ball on middle stump line.

44.1 1

Neil Wagner to Mahmudullah. Shorter one on the middle stump line, Mahmudullah pulls it away but was not it total control of the ball. He manages to get it in the gap to deep square leg for a run.

42.6 0

Neil Wagner to Mahmudullah. Appeal for caught behind from the keeper and the short leg fielder but turned down by the umpire. A short one on the leg stump line, Mahmudullah looks to duck and leave the ball but the ball seems to have brushed something while going through to Watling. It is the arm guard signals the umpire and the New Zealand keeper too feels the same. They decide not to go upstairs.

42.4 0

Neil Wagner to Mahmudullah. On a good length on off, Mahmudullah rises on his toes and defends it off the back foot.

41.4 0

Matt Henry to Liton Das. A length ball on top of off stump, played towards the point fielder by Das.

Liton Das walks in to bat next.

41.3 W

Matt Henry to Soumya Sarkar. OUT! This is poor, poor cricket from Soumya Sarkar and Bangladesh. Absolutely unacceptable in Tests. A length ball on top of off stump from Henry, good pace 138 clicks that one. Soumya without any foot movement looks to pull it away but gets a top edge and the ball just goes high in the air and nowhere else. Watling settles under the ball and takes a comfortable catch, his third of the innings. That is an awful shot. Half the side is back in the hut now for Bangladesh. They are 152/5 from 119/1.

40.1 1

Neil Wagner to Soumya Sarkar. Edgy! Only one slip there and a length ball outside off takes the outside edge of Sarkar as he looked to run it down to third man. The batsmen take a single. Would have been out if there was a second slip. The single brings up the 150 for the visitors.

End of Over : 40 7 Runs BAN: 149/4
39.6 0

Matt Henry to Mahmudullah. Length delivery on off, the skipper plays it to point.

36.5 0

Neil Wagner to Mahmudullah. Aimed at the ribs this time, fended uncomfortably by the batsman. In fact, Mahmudullah had taken his eyes off the ball at the time of contact. The ball luckily for him, goes off the glove and towards the off side of the surface.

36.4 0

Neil Wagner to Mahmudullah. A short one as expected to welcome Mahmudullah, he stands tall and defends the ball.

Mahmudullah walks in at number 6. These two had a big partnership in the last game, can they do it here?

36.3 W

Neil Wagner to Tamim Iqbal. OUT! Wagner has done it again! Oh Bangladesh! what are you doing? Short of a length on middle, Tamim looks to pull this stylishly but the ball goes off the top edge and high in the air. It goes only as far as short fine leg where Southee from a leg gully position comes and settles under the ball and takes it easily. Tamim after doing all the hard work has thrown it away. Bangladesh once again are falling to the short ball ploy. Wagner has three now.

36.2 1

Neil Wagner to Soumya Sarkar. Short of a length and aimed at the hips, Soumya comes inside the line of the ball and works it away to deep backward square leg for a run.

36.1 1

Neil Wagner to Tamim Iqbal. A short ball on top of middle, Tamim stands on his toes and pats the ball towards the off side. The batsmen pick up a quick single.

Neil Wagner to bowl from the other end. Or should we say continue the short stuff?

We see Neil Wagner doing his stretches... looks like he will continue from the other end.

35.2 0

Matt Henry to Tamim Iqbal. Full again on off, Tamim drives it to mid off.

35.1 0

Matt Henry to Tamim Iqbal. Full on off, Tamim drives it to covers.

We are back after Lunch. The players and umpires are out in the middle, New Zealand players are in a huddle. Tamim Iqbal is joined by Soumya Sarkar in the middle. Matt Henry will start the proceedings after Lunch.

... DAY 3, SESSION 2 ...

Thus, in the end, what could have been Bangladesh's session outright ends up being slightly less in favour of them. New Zealand will want to come back after Lunch and continue picking up wickets quickly. Meanwhile, the away side will hope someone can partner Tamim and build a good stand. Back in about 40 minutes for the resumption...

After being inserted to bat by the Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson on a green top, the Bangladeshi openers did really well to score 74 runs in the first period of play before drinks. They batted together for more than 20 overs but post the break, the stand was broken by Colin de Grandhomme who got Shadman to knick one behind to slip. Tamim though continued in his merry ways and made yet another fifty, being positive all along. Mominul who joined him looked comfortable at the crease. All that changed though when Neil Wagner was finally introduced into the attack. He went to the previous match tactic of short-pitched bowling and it paid immediate dividends. He picked up the two wickets of Mominul and Mithun both who knicked behind to Watling. Tamim meanwhile is at the other end and has looked really good so far.

What an absorbing end to a brilliant session! A great session in terms of runs scored for Bangladesh as 127 were made. It has been spoiled right at the end due to the loss of wickets. Three have fallen when at one stage it looked like the away side would head into the break at the loss of just one wicket. The session though has belonged to Tamim Iqbal and towards the end, Neil Wagner.

End of Over : 35 0 Runs BAN: 127/3
34.6 W

Neil Wagner to Mohammad Mithun. OUT! Is this deja-vu or what? Just like Mominul, Mithun also goes after the very next ball post changing an out decision to not out. Another short length ball from Wagner, this time outside off, Mithun looks to defend it initially with an angled bat but looked in two minds in the end as he tried to leave it. The ball takes the under edge and goes to the keeper who makes no mistake. Wagner is pumped up once more, New Zealand have picked up two quick wickets and they have three for the session after a poor start. A maiden-wicket over to end the session. LUNCH ON DAY 3!

34.5 0

Neil Wagner to Mohammad Mithun. NOT OUT! That has indeed gone off the arm guard. The Hot Spot does not show much but the replays and Snicko show us there was a deflection off the arm guard. A short length ball aimed at the ribs, Mithun looks to get inside the line and pull it on the leg side but the ball goes to the keeper after taking a deflection. The umpire raises his finger immediately. The batsman in reaction reacts immediately. The replays roll in and show that the arm guard touched the ball and not the glove or the bat. Hence the on-field decision is overruled. The only question there would be wouldn't it have been out if the arm guard was touching the glove.

Mithun like Mominul before him has reviewed after being caught by the keeper. It was an immediate review, but it seemed out to the naked eye. The batsman feels it has gone off the elbow guard.

34.4 0

Neil Wagner to Mohammad Mithun. A short one aimed perfectly at the ribs of Mithun, he defends uncomfortably. The ball goes towards the short leg fielder.

32.3 W

Neil Wagner to Mominul Haque. OUT! He survived by the review last ball, but is gone this time though! Caught down the leg side off the glove! A short of a length ball landing on middle and going down leg with the angle. Mominul looks to leave that ball but the ball takes the glove on its way to Watling who pouches that ball easily. This time, Haque walks off knowing he has got that off his glove. Wagner is pumped up. Why not, New Zealand has just got their second wicket.

32.2 0

Neil Wagner to Mominul Haque. NOT OUT! The ball has gone off the shoulder. The Hot Spot as well as the Snicko tell the third umpire that the ball has not hit the bat and had hit the body. A short of a length delivery outside off, Mominul looks to defend the ball but the ball moves away and he seems to have got an outside edge to the keeper. There was a certain noise and all the fielders celebrate. The umpire too nods his head. The batsman though reviews immediately. The replays roll in and confirm indeed that the ball did not get bat at all. Mominul survives.

Reviewed by the batsman as he is adjudged caught behind. Mominul thinks that the ball has come off the shoulder. He went up immediately.

29.2 4

Tim Southee to Tamim Iqbal. FOUR! Just wide and then goes all the way for a boundary! A short ball outside off, Tamim pulls it towards mid on with a flat bat but is not in control. Wagner at a widish mid on dives to his right but goes for the catch with his left hand as he is worried about his right hand that he injured earlier while fielding. The ball beats him and goes to the fence. That boundary also brings up the 100 for Bangladesh.

29.1 0

Tim Southee to Tamim Iqbal. On a good length and outside off, Iqbal shoulders his arms to this one.

28.5 0

Trent Boult to Mominul Haque. Length delivery on middle, the left-hander flicks it to mid-wicket.

20.4 W

Colin de Grandhomme to Shadman Islam. OUT! Gone at last! How many times have we seen a wicket fall after a break? De Grandhomme does the trick! A length ball on the off stump line from around the wicket, shapes away slight after landing off the seam. The ball takes the edge and carries to first slip where Taylor gobbles the ball up. The first and much-needed break for New Zealand. The 75-run stand comes to an end. A funny incident also happened during the wicket, the wicket-keeper suddenly runs to the left after the catch was taken seeing something go off Taylor's hand. He must have thought Ross had dropped the catch and that it was the ball but it was actually Rosco's finger guard. All smiles in the end for the Kiwis though.

20.1 1

Colin de Grandhomme to Tamim Iqbal. On a good length on off, Iqbal taps it towards point for a run.

DRINKS BREAK - What a brilliant period of play for the visitors! Bangladesh's openers have not only gone wicketless in the first passage of cricket in this Test but also managed to score 74 runs in the 20 overs gone by. A healthy run rate of 3.7 to boot. On the other hand, the New Zealand pacers have not made much use of the conditions that were available to them, the surface did play better than expected but the consistency of the perfect line and length has been lacking. The hosts will look to break this partnership as soon as possible whereas the away side will look to continue the good work done so far. Thankfully, the rain has also stayed away so far. The home team is seen in a huddle during the break, before they head back to their positions. Post that, de Grandhomme gets some sawdust and drops it near the landing area.

PITCH REPORT - The surface is green and it is grey overhead, says the pitch expert Mark Richardson. Hopefully, the rain will stay away he says and the game should happen without stoppages on Day 3. Coming to the wicket, he feels that it looks like a traditional Basin Reserve wicket. Informs us there is also some amount of moisture on the surface, which might make the ball hold up a bit. He moves on to the side of the pitch, where he feels more dampness. Reckons the swing could be easier to negotiate today more than tomorrow, when he feels could be toughest for batting. Signs off by saying that it is quite cold out there.

Mahmudullah, the Bangladesh captain says he would have liked to bowl first as well. Feels now they will have to bat well in the first session, forgetting the conditions and spend time in the middle, giving themselves a bit of chance. Informs us that the team has a couple of changes. Reckons they do not want to repeat the mistake of not being able to put a big first innings total on the board in the first Test.

Kane Williamson, the NZ skipper says that they need to bowl in the right areas. Informs they have a single change in the team, with Matt Henry coming in. Mentions that they will need to be a little more clinical in the way they go about their game.

TOSS - New Zealand won the coin flip and elected to bowl first.

After 2 days of just hope, we are finally primed for some action. BJ Watling was presented the match ball from the previous game for his record dismissals as wicket-keeper for New Zealand in Tests. The captains are now out in the middle for the toss with Scott Styris, the match referee and the mascot.

End of Over : 84.5 NZ: 432/6

The lesses said about the bowling the better. They were erratic and bowled all over the place. Run scoring was easy and no one was effective at all. They were plundered and put to the sword. In the end, they were ragged by the time the NZ skipper decided to end the innings. Now, 221 is the lead and Bangladesh are staring at defeat. They will have to bat really well and try to at least draw this game as a win looks hopeless from here. First of all there is the period of play this evening to be negotiated. Be back in a bit for that and the start of the 3rd innings...

394 runs in 73.1 overs! This is not even Test cricket you might think. But such was the domination of the Kiwi batting today. One man stood out, Ross Taylor. He made a double century, one of the best ever. He was involved in two massive stands, first with Williamson of 172 runs and second with Nicholls, of 216 runs. At the start of the day, the NZ skipper Kane and Ross both batted nervously as the ball was moving around. Taylor gave a couple of chances which were dropped when he was on 20. That was that though, no looking back post that. Taylor went on to smash a double century, Williamson missed out on a century battling with a shoulder injury and Nicholls got his 5th Test hundred. The runs flew thick and fast and New Zealand ended up with a lead of 221 runs.

84.5 W

He walked in at 8/2 and now it is 413/4. A length ball on middle, Ross comes down the line and pulls it away through square leg. It doesn not reach the fence but three can be taken. We are back for the post-Lunch session. The players and umpires are out in the middle. Ross Taylor and Henry Nicholls will continue from where they left off. Ebadot Hossain will start the proceedings after Lunch.

... DAY 4, SESSION 2 ...

As for the away side's bowling, the 2 dropped chances saw the whole idea change. The bowlers lost discipline and were taken to the cleaners by Kane and Ross, especially the latter as they scored at will. A run rate of more than 4.8 says a story on it's own. Does that mean the game is over? Quite possibly for Bangladesh, yes. Unless something dramatic happens and the Kiwis collapse in the next session. New Zealand on the other hand will look to continue with getting quick runs and have a sizeable lead. Meanwhile, the weather has played really nice so far with the sun even making an appearance. Hopefully it will stay like that for the rest of the day. What will happen on the field though? Return in about 40 minutes to find out...

What a session this has been for the hosts. 33.2 overs have been bowled by Bangladesh and 160 runs have come off them. Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson have absolutely bossed the visitors with the bat in the 2 and a half hours and have put New Zealand on course to what could be an unlikely victory in a Test which had 2 days washed out completely. The session began with the away side's bowlers doing really well and getting assistance off the pitch. They induced the edges and created the chances but none were taken. Ross Taylor was dropped twice and he made them pay. Kane Williamson and he stitched a 172-run stand before the skipper who had a shoulder injury fell without going on to make a ton. His partner, Ross Taylor though registered his 18th ton in Tests and is unbeaten there with Henry Nicholls who has joined him. Taylor was merciless and went for his shots and was especially brutal on Soumya Sarkar's bowling.

The boundary also brings up the 50-run stand between these two, in real quick time!

14.5 2

Abu Jayed to Ross Taylor. Oooh! That could have so easily gone straight back to the bowler. A length ball on middle, Taylor pushes through the line and is early into the shot. The ball goes uppishly but just enough to the right of the bowler who has no chance on the followthrough. The batsmen pick up two runs till mid on runs and throws the ball back.

14.4 0

Abu Jayed to Ross Taylor. This time Taylor covers the line of the ball and pats it to the leg side.

14.3 0

Abu Jayed to Ross Taylor. DROPPED AGAIN! Would you believe it? At second slip this time. Jayed should have had his third in this over but does not yet. A length ball outside off and shaping away ever so late, Taylor looks to defend but gets the outside edge and the ball goes to the left of second slip where Shadman Islam dives low to take the ball but fails to hold on. Abu Jayed to Ross Taylor. Length delivery on leg, Taylor looks to flick but gets hit on the pads. It goes towards Watling where he fails to collect and gives an easy run. The umpire gives it as a leg bye.

The two batsmen come to the middle and have a look at the surface after the first two deliveries, especially at the indentations. Meanwhile, Abu Jayed to bowl from the other end.

We are set to begin. The players and umpires are out in the middle. Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor are the overnight batsmen for the hosts. Ebadot Hossain will continue his over, 2 balls remain...

PITCH REPORT - DAY 4 - Light rollers have been used the previous days but this morning, the heavy roller has been used says Mark Richardson. Not much grass has been cut off and he comes near the surface and points at patches on the pitch due to the roller. There are slight indentations on the pitch as he shows us and reckons that the day could be a better one for the bowlers, even more than Day 3 with the overhead conditions cloudy as well.

The pitch quickened up quite a lot on Day 3 after initially being good to bat on. It is expected to continue assisting the pacers with lateral movement through the air and off the pitch. The overhead conditions are cloudy and overcast but the rain has stayed away so far. The forecast is for it to remain that way, we hope so too! The hosts will look to bat as long as possible while the visitors will look for early wickets. There could still be a result in this game, an exciting day in prospect provided the weather and light permits. Action is not far away...

Hello and welcome to Day 4 of this second Test between the Kiwis and the Bangladesh Tigers. After 2 rained out days on Day 1 and Day 2, we finally had play start on Day 3. Kane Williamson inserted Bangladesh in to bat first and then bowled them out for 211 in spite of a 74 from Tamim Iqbal. Wagner was the hero with the ball for them. When it was their turn to bat in the final session, only 11.4 overs were possible and they lost their two openers in the process. The skipper and Ross Taylor are out in the middle as of now and will resume batting on Day 4.

... Day 4, Session 1 ...

Thus, an engrossing day's play. One would believe that with more than 2 days being washed out, this game would surely be a draw but seeing the pace of the game today, anything can happen if weather permits on the final two days of the game. Monday will be Day 4 of the Test and the forecast does seem clear. Hopefully, play will start on time and we can have an uninterrupted game. There will be an early start on Monday as well. Join us at 1030 local (2130 GMT, Sunday night) for all the action. Till then, take care and cheers!

It has been a quick-paced day for sure though. A total of 72.4 overs were possible on Day 3. Bangladesh on the back of yet another fifty from Tamim Iqbal managed to put on board 211. They will be disappointed though because they did have more than a decent start on a green wicket where they were inserted to bat on. The wicket quickened up as the day passed and eventually wickets fell in bulk towards the latter half of the innings. Wagner with 4 and Boult with 3 were the chief tormentors of the away side. Post Tea, when the Kiwis came out to bat, the visitors' bowlers used the pitch and overhead conditions to best effect. The ball moved around and they have managed to send back both the in-form openers, both wickets went to Abu Jayed. Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson were out there in the middle, the former being in aggresive mode, when the rain decided to come down after being away all day. That was the final bit of play as the umpires decided no further play would be possible.

Update 1745 local time - Sorry guys! Bad news! Play has been abandoned on Day 3. The drizzle was persistent and though it was light, it was enough for the game to be called off on the third day. The light also seemed to be fading a bit. The umpires strolled out for an inspection a little while back and decided that we have had our final action of the game for today.

Update 1725 local - The rain is persisting as of now and we continue our wait for it to stop. Things starting to look bleak now in respect to whether we may have any further play. Waiting for official word though...

Slight drizzle here and the umpires come in the middle to have a discussion. And.... we are going off! The Hessian comes on first to cover the pitch, followed by the rest of the covers for the square. The umpires are not hurrying off exactly, suggesting they're not too worried and it could be a passing shower. Hope it is!

Ross Taylor walks in at number 4.

8.3 W

Abu Jayed to Jeet Raval. OUT! Caught at cover! New Zealand have lost their second! Bangladesh are surely making they're still in this game with early wickets. A fuller length ball outside off and shaping away, Raval was leaving these all along but this one was slightly closer to the off pole more than the previous ones. He goes for the drive but cannot keep the ball down and gives an easy catch to Soumya Sarkar at cover. The hosts are two down with under 10 on the board. Brilliant start from the visitors, just what they would have wanted. Abu Jayed has his second and is ecstatic.

4.6 W

Abu Jayed to Tom Latham. OUT! This time it takes the edge and is pouched easily by Das. The last ball went past the outside edge but this time the knick is induced. A length ball just outside off and shaping ever so slightly away. The length entices the drive from Latham but the movement ensures the edge is taken and Liton makes no mistake. That is the early breakthrough Bangladesh were looking for. Tom Latham walks back cheaply, a rare failure for him.

4.5 0

Abu Jayed to Tom Latham. Peach! Outside off and shaping away, moves just enough to go past the outside edge of Tom who was looking to defend.

4.4 0

Abu Jayed to Tom Latham. Loud appeal but no reaction from the umpire! Lovely ball that was, looked pretty close as well. A length ball landing on middle from around the wicket, the ball shaped away in the end to beat the bat of Latham who was trying to defend the ball. It goes on to hit the thigh pad of Latham in front of the stumps. Height seems to be the issue there. The replays roll in and they too say that the ball would have gone over the stumps.

4.2 0

2.3 0

End of Over : 2 0 Runs NZ: 1/0
1.6 0

Ebadot Hossain to Jeet Raval. Left alone by Raval once more to this ball that was coming into the left-hander. The ball was a short one though and comfortably going over the stumps. So no chance of LBW. End of Ebadot's first over, a maiden.

1.5 0

Ebadot Hossain to Jeet Raval. Length ball on the pads, defended back to the bowler.

1.4 0

Ebadot Hossain to Jeet Raval. Slightly on the shorter side once more, defended back onto the surface.

1.3 0

0.1 0

Abu Jayed to Jeet Raval. Starts off with a length ball outside off from around the wicket, Raval shoulders arms to that.

End of Over : 56.0 BAN: 209/10

That ends another Test match and another mauling. Bangladesh have simply not been able to answer the short ball challenge and they need to find a solution quickly, with the third Test not far away. Join us from Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 11 am local (2200 GMT, previous night) for all the action from the third and final Test. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!

Victorious Kiwi skipper, Kane Williamson, says that the shoulder is fine for now. Praises his bowlers for finishing the match within 2 and a half days, in spite of bowling not too well in the first innings. Says that the plan was always to be positive, playing good cricket. Feels that the wicket was very challenging, with Bangladesh bowling well on a green wicket in the first innings but without luck. Williamson adds that he and Taylor were able to capitalize on that and took the game out of reach. On the pitch, Kane says that it is very hard to make an accurate judgement but feels it held up nicely and scoring became easier after spending some time on the wicket. Hopes that Bradley Watling's hamstring injury is not serious and he is fit for the next Test.

Bangladesh captain, Mahmudullah, feels that the team could have done a lot lot better as they are a much better unit than that. Admits that there was help with the new ball but the batsmen could have showed some grit. Hopes to do well in the third Test. Agrees that catching let them down too in this game. On the short ball challenge, Mahmudullah puts it to the individuals as every player is different. Asks the batsmen to judge themselves how good or bad they are playing the short ball and find ways to tackle it.

ROSS TAYLOR HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Taylor says that as a batter it always plays in your mind when you look at a green track. Praises the bowlers for getting a result in 2 and a half days and taking 20 wickets. Says that it was a matter of 30 minutes of survival and himself and Williamson were lucky to get through those. Adds that once that period was over, the margin for error was very less for the bowlers and the batsmen took full toll. On going past Martin Crowe's century tally, Rosco says that he held up a couple of glasses for the great man in honour last night and is honoured to have been able to go past him.

A few dropped catches did not help the tourists' cause as they started falling way behind. Then, those two sessions on Day 4 saw Taylor and Nicholls plunder runs. Rosco went on to score his double hundred and at that stage, an innings defeat script was written. Bangladesh were good with the new ball but could not quite sustain the pressure. Please stay tuned for the presentation...

Just to give you a reminder of what happened in this Test. The first 2 days were washed out without a ball being bowled. And yet, we have had a result in 7 sessions. On a super-green wicket, the Kiwis elected to bowl and dismissed the visitors for 211, with only Tamim providing any resistance with his 74. There too, Boult and Wagner shared most of the wickets, 7 to be precise. Come the reply, the Kiwis were 8/2 but then a massive century stand between Williamson and Taylor put Bangladesh on the back foot.

When it comes to short pitch bowling, does any other name come to your mind apart from Neil Wagner? The lion-hearted fellow took yet another 5-fer, following his 4 in the first innings. He has taken 16 wickets in 4 innings in this series, at an average of 14 and a strike rate of 25.2. Brilliant. Trent Boult helped himself with 4 while the other bowlers, though wicketless, were always dangerous.

The day started with the hosts needing 7 wickets to win and they have wrapped things up in a matter of 33 overs. The plan was certain - bowl short and at the body, terrorize the batsmen's minds and get wickets through lack of patience. Short, short, short - the barricade kept on coming and eventually, the batting succumbed. Shadman, Mithun and Sarkar got starts, but could not quite convert them into big knocks. Mahmudullah easily looked the best of the lot, playing the short balls with ease.

2-0 for New Zealand with a Test to go. Not surprising at all. Yet another game where an Asian side has been bounced out.

55.6 W

Neil Wagner to Ebadot Hossain. OUT! Timber and it is a 5-fer for Wagner! Full and straight. Ebadot backs away, aiming to go through the off side but the ball is too good for him. Goes under his bat and bang. NEW ZEALAND WIN BY AN INNINGS AND 12 RUNS!

55.5 0

Neil Wagner to Ebadot Hossain. A full toss outside off, Ebadot backs away to slash but misses.

Ebadot Hossain is the last man in.

55.4 W

Neil Wagner to Mahmudullah. OUT! In the air and taken! No century for the skipper and Bangladesh are still 12 short of avoiding an innings defeat. Not surprisingly, a short ball, around middle, Mahmudullah looks to pull but is cramped for room. Gets a top edge which skies miles in the air. Trent Boult runs to his right from third man and takes it nicely.

55.3 0

Neil Wagner to Mahmudullah. A short ball down the leg side, Mahmudullah lets it go.

55.2 6

Neil Wagner to Mahmudullah. SIX! That is a terrific shot. Even Wagner admires it. A short ball outside off, Mahmudullah carves it over point and the ball goes all the way! The deficit is now 12.

55.1 0

Neil Wagner to Mahmudullah. A length ball around middle, helped towards square leg.

End of Over : 55 0 Runs BAN: 203/8
54.6 0

Trent Boult to Abu Jayed. Goes for the yorker to end the over but bowls a full toss instead. The batsman puts his bat down and plays it to extra cover.

54.5 0

Trent Boult to Abu Jayed. Fullish delivery outside off, Abu tries to play and defend it but keeps his bat on the wrong line and misses to connect.

54.4 0

Trent Boult to Abu Jayed. NOT OUT. New Zealand waste a review but they will not care too much about it. They will like to finish this off quickly. A short ball, around middle, Jayed looked to fend it off but missed. The ball went off something, to the naked eye and keeper Bocock appealed. The umpire turned it down and Southee went for the review. Hot Spot showed a mark on the helmet while Snicko showed nothing.

Review for a caught behind! The keeper looks very confident and Southee has obliged.

Abu Jayed walks in at number 10, replacing Mustafizur. LUNCH HAS BEEN EXTENDED BY 15 MINUTES, as 8 wickets are down.

54.3 W

Trent Boult to Mustafizur Rahman. OUT! BOWLED! Straight and full, and that's how it is done. A full length delivery on middle stump and straight. Rahman was going for a big shot but misses it completely. The ball knocks the middle stump out. And that's how one gets a tail-ender. Just 2 wickets more for Kiwis to seal the deal for this Test. Can they finish this off in this session itself?

54.2 0

Trent Boult to Mustafizur Rahman. A well-directed bouncer, ducked by Rahman watchfully.

54.1 0

Trent Boult to Mustafizur Rahman. Full on middle, pushed towards mid on.

End of Over : 54 1 Runs BAN: 203/7
53.6 1

Neil Wagner to Mustafizur Rahman. Finally the full ball comes. It is on the stumps and Mustafizur has a massive heave. Mistimes it high in the air but mid off cannot get to it running back. The ball lands safely and strangely, the batsmen are happy with the single.

53.5 0

Neil Wagner to Mustafizur Rahman. Pitched outside off angling away, Mustafizur plays the wrong line and the ball goes to the keeper.

53.4 0

WEATHER - It is pretty overcast with a slight chance of rain. Hopefully, it does not rain.

1 session? 2 sessions? Whole day? How long will the game last? With 7 wickets in hand, probably you back the Kiwis to finish this off in a session. Can Bangladesh offer some resistance? Hello and a warm welcome to the final day's play of the second Test between New Zealand and Bangladesh in Wellington.

... DAY 5, SESSION 1 ...

Thus, the Test which was looking like a hopeless one has suddenly turned into one which could surely have a result. The Kiwis are sure favourites with just 7 wickets to take and a lead of 141 yet to boot. The best the Tigers can hope for is to salvage a draw. They would not mind some help from the fickle weather of Wellington but the forecast is decent for Tuesday. An exciting finish is expected for sure, will the home side wrap up the game and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series or will Bangladesh manage to take it to the final Test with the series still alive? Join us at 1030 local (2130 GMT, Monday night) to find out. Till then, take care and cheers!

Ross Taylor says that he is really happy with his hundred and more so because it was a difficult pitch to bat on where any particular ball could get your wicket. He says that he was lucky to survive the morning and that the heavy roller they used was helpful in the end. When asked about the speed with which they batted today, he informs us that it had to be done especially since it was a 3-day Test. Ross tells us that their plan was to attack the seamers as they had only 3 in their side. They initially wanted a lead of 100 just to get a result in the game but feels that this was a bonus. Gets emotional when asked about going past Crowe's 17 centuries and says it would have made him proud. He signs off by saying that they want to pick up early wickets on Day 5 and they don't mind chasing 40-50 runs in the final innings if that happens. Finally, he also adds that this surface is still less green than the Hobart one that he played on in the past.

The day belonged to Ross Taylor. He made his 18th ton in Tests, going past his role model and former hero, Martin Crowe. He converted it into a double century and along with the company of Williamson and Nicholls, he set a lead of 221 runs over the away side. Trent Boult started off the second innings on a super note with a second-ball wicket of Tamim Iqbal. That rocked the visitors and they lost 2 more wickets until Stumps. Mohammad Mithun and Soumya Sarkar are unbeaten right now and will look to come on Day 5 and bat a long time if their team is to have any hopes. Just before you go though, a special interview comes your way!

What a Test match we have witnessed here at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. 2 days washed out, 2 days of super-fast Test cricket. Day 4 started with the hosts, New Zealand starting at 38/2 in pursuit of Bangladesh's 211. They provided a batting masterclass as they attacked and attacked adding 394 runs to their overnight score, 200 of which came of Ross Taylor's bat. They ended up declaring with a lot of time left in the final session and they even managed to pick up 3 wickets in the 2nd innings of the visitors. The lead is still 141 and the hosts will be more than hopeful of claiming a victory on Day 5 provided the weather remains good like it did on Day 4 all day long!
