Australia vs India Highlights And Cricket Score 1st Match - ODI Commentary
237 to win in 50 overs, then. Does not look a very big total, to be honest, but a couple of early wickets and you never know with India's ever-so-fragile middle order. Australia will hope for exactly the same. Meanwhile, the hosts will know that a good opening stand will set the platform for a comfortable chase. What will happen? Join us in a short while for the second innings to find out!
Kuldeep says that the first 10 overs of the innings were very crucial. Mentions that the fast bowlers picking up wickets and keeping it tight helped the spinners. Adds that he used the first two overs to get back into the rhythm as he was coming back into the action after a 20-day break. Reckons that the wicket is a little slow and it is difficult to play spin. Informs that he realized the wicket is slow after bowling a couple of overs and hence he bowled at a slower pace post that. When asked about his loop, he states that Khawaja was coming down the track and that's why he kept tossing it up. Feels Handscomb's wicket was special. Signs off by admitting that he practices different variations in the nets and tries to deceive the batsmen with the wrong 'uns.
With the ball, the stars were Shami and Kuldeep who both picked up 2 wickets each while being economical as well. Shami was especially really good at the start. Jadeja bowled a wicketless spell but went at a run rate of 3.3 per over only. It was a rare bad day at the office for Jasprit Bumrah but the rest of his colleagues ensured that the team did not suffer. A good bowling display on the whole. Time for an interview, Kuldeep Yadav on the sidelines...
Aaron Finch won the toss but could not do much with the bat as he trudged off for a third ball duck and continued with his string of low scores. That though was followed by a hard-fought partnership of 87 between Usman Khawaja and Marcus Stoinis, who walked in at number 3. But just when it seemed like the Aussies were accelerating, the partnership-breaker Kedar Jadhav came to the fore picking the wicket of Stoinis. Khawaja went on to reach his fifty but could not continue longer as he holed out in the deep. Handscomb too fell after getting a start. The star of the T20Is, Glenn Maxwell reached 40 at a decent clip but fell at the wrong time for the visitors. At that time, it seemed like it would be really hard for the away side to bat out the entire 50 overs but a decent partnership in the end of 62 runs between Nathan Coulter-Nile and Alex Carey for the seventh wicket gave the total some respectability and the Aussie bowlers something to play with.
A stop and start innings from Australia. They will be disappointed having ended at least 25-30 runs short of the total that they would have liked, especially after winning the toss and electing to bat on this decent surface in Hyderabad. And more so when Jasprit Bumrah had a rare off day. Kudos though have to be given to Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and mainly, Mohammed Shami who bowled economically while picking up wickets at regular interval as well. They never let the Aussies off the hook and kept the scoring rate under control right through the innings.

Mohammed Shami to Glenn Maxwell. OUT! The Big Show is out of here and Australia are now in big, big trouble! Shami gets his second and once again it is on the 5th ball of the over. He lands this one on a length around off, it pitches and comes back in a shade. Maxwell looks to drive it on the up but leaves a gap between bat and pad. It sneaks through and rattles the off pole. The crowd here erupts as they also know it is a massive breakthrough for the home team. 250 now looks farfetched as India are into the bowling all-rounders.

Not very short though. Turner goes for the pull but the ball does not bounce as much as he expected it to. It goes off the inside edge and onto the stumps. Another partnership which was looking good is cut short. Frustrating this for the Aussies but good for the Indians. They now have half of Australia's side back in the hut.
Mohammed Shami to Ashton Turner. Goes very full and on the pads, Turner flicks it away from the fine leg fielder and takes two.

Mohammed Shami to Ashton Turner. SIX! What a shot! He got his first boundary in ODIs in the last over and now his first maximum. The slower bumper, Turner picks it early. He goes back and pulls it over the mid-wicket fence. A maximum early in the over, Australia now need to make this count.
Mohammed Shami to Ashton Turner. Good length on off, Turner keeps it out. A dot to begin Shami's new spell.
DRINKS! India continue to remain on top but Australia have Glenn Maxwell out there who is looking good. Turner here has a good chance to show what he is capable of. 15 more overs to go and the Aussies will be aiming for something around 270 but for that to happen, they need the two batsmen out there to continue at least till the 45th over. India, on the other hand, know a couple of wickets here, especially that of the 'Big Show' and the visitors might just struggle to get to 240. Mohammed Shami to bowl after the Drinks break.

Kuldeep Yadav to Peter Handscomb. OUT! Stumped! Beaten in the air there! That is Kuldeep Yadav's guile and even a good player of spin like Handscomb has been done in. Yadav flights this one beautifully outside off and tempts the batsman to leave his crease. Peter is though nowhere close to the ball and the spin on the ball is too much. It goes through the gap between bat and pad towards Dhoni who collects and flicks off the bails in a flash. PH was at sea and had no chance of getting back. The budding partnership of 36 has been broken and it is a really good time for India to get this wicket, especially with a debutant deemed to bat next.

Jasprit Bumrah to Glenn Maxwell. FOUR! Edgy but Maxwell will take it. Full length delivery outside off. The ball comes in after pitching. Maxwell looks to drive but gets a thick outside edge. There is a slip in place for that kind of an edge. But Rohit Sharma at wide first slip reacts late. The ball goes past him to the third man fence for a boundary. Had he been at a conventional first slip position then Maxwell would have been a goner. Maxwell is in the form of his life and this could come back to haunt the Indian team here. Any half chance to get him out should be taken with both hands.

Further adds he wants to continue the same cricket played by them in New Zealand and Australia. He reckons they are a balanced 11. Informs Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav are the spinners and Vijay Shankar is also in the team, giving them more depth in the batting.
Australian skipper, Aaron Finch, says they are going to bat first as it looks like a dry surface. Mentions the stats also influences his decision to bat first. Further adds they are looking to improve with each series and they are doing so. Informs Alex Carey comes in and Jhye Richardson misses out from their last game. The other change which he forgets to mention is that Usman Khawaja is also back, replacing D'Arcy Short.

Ambati Rayudu in an interview near the sidelines. States he is happy to bat anywhere the team wants him to. On batting at number 5 at Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy for Hyderabad, Rayudu says that it was just according to the situation. Admits that the approach is different while batting at different positions and explains he is flexible in his head which helps him bat in various positions. On how he bounces back from the downfall he faces - Rayudu explains it is important to be composed and balanced and work on his shortcomings. Adds that he did not think too much about it. On his innings in the 5th ODI vs New Zealand, Rayudu mentions that they had lost the game in Hamilton and the middle order was disappointed with the performance and it was a happy moment for them to perform in the last ODI and win the game.
Hello and welcome! Hyderabad is bustling with excitement and so are we. The last leg of international fixtures for the Men in Blue ahead of the massive World Cup upcoming at the end of May. The Australians are on a roll with a couple of wins in the 2 games already on this tour. Onto the 50-over format then, can the visitors continue their winning momentum or will the home team prove too strong? Ashton Turner is in line for his ODI debut as Matthew Hayden is seen presenting him with the cap. What will the team combinations be? How will the surface play? Who will bat/bowl first? All that coming up real soon with the Toss just around the corner!
So that is all here from Hyderabad then! The Indians have started the series on a positive note and what is more important is that their middle order seems to be giving answers to the questions that were being raised. The away side has a lot that they would like to improve on, mainly on the batting front. The Aussies are struggling with their 50-over form and would like to set it straight in the very next game. That one will be played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur. It will begin at 1330 local (0800 GMT) on 5th March, Tuesday. See you for the coverage of that game. Till then, take care and cheers!
Man of the Match, Kedar Jadhav smiles and says that his bowling is all about angles and reading batsmen's mind as he looks to bowl stump-to-stump. Admits that he doesn't feel like a bowler and just enjoys rolling his arm. Reminds that recently in Australia, he was involved in a similar kind of a chase. Thanks MS Dhoni for continuously guiding him and adds that he is learning from Dhoni and Kohli as they are the best finishers. On the question that had Dhoni not been there how he would have batted - Jadhav smiles and answers that he might have tried to play more shots earlier but MSD can read your mind and reminds you about the game situation. Signs off by saying that every time you think about the team, more often than not you will end up on the winning side.
Victorious Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper says that the game was a difficult one and that they did well with the ball. Praises the partnership between Dhoni and Kedar that took them over the line. Reckons that bowling won them the game and knew that a partnership or two will take them over the line. Informs us that he was happy actually that his middle order was under pressure and how he discussed with the coach about how this will be shadow practice for the games to come. Reserves special mention for Kuldeep Yadav who he says is always ready to put his hand up and try and do stuff for the team. Does not forget Mohammed Shami who he feels did really well to lose weight and bowls with a lot of heart. Is happy with the way the pacer has come back into the white-ball setup and believes that the bowling unit is shaping up really nicely with Bumrah, Kuldeep also in the run-up to the World Cup.
Australia's skipper, Aaron Finch admits that they were 20-30 runs short on that wicket. Feels that had they batted well towards the end, they would have got that score. Praises his bowlers for putting in a good effort. Adds that everyone is trying and they just need to give attention to details a bit more. Mohammed Shami begins by saying that it's been a long journey and everyone has worked hard. Adds that they have been performing superbly in the last 3-4 years and hopes to keep going. States that it's been up and down in his life and thanks God for everything. He always tries his best for the team, adds Shami. Mentions that he has been working on his line and length and it's giving him results. Also talks about his fitness and says that he was 93 kgs when he returned from the injury break and has worked really hard to reduce his weight.
As for the Aussie bowling, they cannot be blamed. They gave their all and tried their best. The pick of the bowlers were Coulter-Nile and Zampa who picked a couple of wickets each. The rest bowled economically but in the end, the target was just too low to be defended on a surface that played two-paced. Earlier on in the afternoon, the Aussie skipper won the toss and elected to bat but his team could manage just 236 off the back of a fifty from Usman Khawaja and a few small but good knocks from Glenn Maxwell, Alex Carey and Nathan Coulter-Nile. The feeling at the mid-way stage was that the total was about 25-30 short and in the end, that was what it proved to be. A good way for the home team to begin the series though but the Kangaroos will have to come back harder the next game, looking at their batting as well. The presentation to follow, but first an interview with Mohammed Shami who is down near the ropes.
The innings though began poorly for the hosts as they lost Shikhar Dhawan for a first-ball duck. Then came a solid partnership between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli which set the Men in Blue on their way. The skipper looked really good while he was out there while the Indian vice-captain did not look his original self. A 76-run stand was then broken and then came a flurry of wickets. India collapsed to 99/4 from 80/1 and it looked like the middle muddle was being seen all over again but it was not to be.
This has been a partnership for the ages! India take an early lead in the ODI series. At 99/4 it did not look like the Indians were going to have it easy. But how wrong have we been proved? The duo of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav has built an unbeaten partnership of 141 runs and taken their team across the line. The Australians did more than well with the ball but it just was not enough in the end. Both the batsmen got to their fifties, Jadhav playing the aggressor's role. Dhoni took the backseat as he helped his partner motor along on his own route.
Marcus Stoinis to MS Dhoni. FOUR! MSD finishes it off in style! Stoinis angles in a length ball on middle, Dhoni heaves it off the inner half of his bat and it goes flying over mid-wicket for the winning runs. INDIA WIN BY 6 WICKETS! India were in a spot of bother when he came out to bat but held one end and has put the home team in a commanding position along with Kedar Jadhav. Legend.
Nathan Coulter-Nile is back. Was good with the new ball, 8-2-35-2 so far...
Pat Cummins to Kedar Jadhav. A dot ball to end the over and Cummins' spell. Length outside off, patted towards point. Pat ends with decent figures of 10-0-46-0.
