1st Inn
2nd Inn
End of Over : 47.0AUS: 214/10
Glenn Maxwell and Ashton Agar were the star players for Australia. The former got some shots from the middle of the bat and gave a scare to the English bowlers in the middle overs. Agar accompanied him and together they tried to steer their sinking ship out of the water with a 84-run partnership. Considering the conditions, adaptability and their form, it should be an easy outing for the England batsmen. However, one can never consider Australia out of the competition. Join us on the other side of the innings break.
First innings belongs to the home team. They have managed to topple Australia for 214 and haven't even allowed them to play their full quota of 50 overs. David Willey got the first wicket in the second over of the match and afterwards, it was Moeen Ali show. His spell of 3/43 meant that the top order of the visiting team couldn't get hold of him. He, along with Adil Rashid, made sure that no easy runs were given. The batsmen, in order to get some quick runs, started manufacturing shots and ended up giving away their wickets cheaply.

Nasser Hussain trying to analyze Adil Rashid's bowling action. He identifies that it's quite tough to pick him from the hand as he bowls with a quick-arm action. Nass feels that the batsmen try to pick him through the trajectory in which he lands the ball. If it's around leg, they assume it to be a leg spinner and if it's outside off, they assume it to be a googly. He is quick to add though that it's not the best way to play the leggie as he can bowl other variations apart from the above ones.

19.4W
Adil Rashid to Marcus Stoinis. OUT! Googly has done the job for the leg spinner. Half the side is back in the hut for Australia. This is not looking good for them. Stoinis is walking back with a look of disbelief. He thought the wide and shortish delivery was an opportunity to get some runs but it was a bit too close for the square cut. He went with hard hands and only managed an edge. Buttler takes it easily and jumps in celebration.

Drinks are on the field. England are the happier side going into the break. They have Australia's top order in the kitty and Moeen Ali is proving too difficult to score runs off. Although some bad shots from the Aussies resulted in their wickets, it's the pressure created by good bowling from the home team's bowlers.
16.1W
Moeen Ali to Tim Paine. OUT! Four down, Australia. Now they lose their skipper as well. Moeen Ali continues with his good work. He is ripping through the Aussie line-up. Tim Paine is the victim this time. Moeen flights the ball on off stump and Paine goes for the reverse sweep. But he gets a top edge and goes straight to Mark Wood at short third man. 11.60
Adil Rashid to Marcus Stoinis. Another resolute defense as Australia is looking to rebuild their innings.
Luxury for England! Stats suggest that Moeen Ali has been doing a commendable job for them in Powerplay 1. It drops a bit post that but then Adil Rashid takes the charge and has fared better in the middle phase of the game. Michael Atherton on air also brings out the point that wrist spinners have been ruling the roost in the shorter version of late and although their economy rate is on the higher side, they tend to pick wickets.

10.34
Moeen Ali to Tim Paine. FOUR! Starts with a good looking punch. It was a touch short from the wicket-taker, outside off and the skipper cuts it through the cover region. The fielder chases the ball to the boundary, does well to stop it inside the line but messes it up while throwing it. His foot dragged the boundary rope behind when he dived to stop the ball and when he stood up to throw it back, he didn't keep in mind the actual line. As a result, boundary singlled by the umpire.
Tim Paine is the new batsman in.
10.2W

David Willey to Shaun Marsh. Aerial but safe! Almost another wicket there for England. A length ball outside off, Marsh plays a drive on the up and it goes uppishly towards cover-point. There was a short extra cover in place and had that been a little towards his right that would have been a straightforward catch. Root was the fielder and his gestures show the same.
9.11
David Willey to Marcus Stoinis. Edgy! Fuller in length around off, angling away from the new batsman, Stoinis brings his bat down in defense but it takes the outside edge and rolls to third man. They cross for a single.

Mark Wood to Shaun Marsh. On a shortish length, into the body and Marsh blocks it.
6.14
Mark Wood to Shaun Marsh. FOUR! Shot! Marsh is dealing in boundaries. He isn't letting the opportunities go. Gets a shortish delivery outside off, goes on his toes and punches it down the ground. The fielder at mid off dives but in vain as the ball rushes to the boundary.

TOSS - Australia win the toss and they are going to bat first. Michael Neser makes his international debut, while Aaron Finch and Travis Head are expected to open the innings. England are going with the expected XI, the only change being Jos Buttler returning to the playing XI.
On the other hand, England are currently top-ranked team in the ODI rankings. They have a settled team, an experienced leader in the form of Eoin Morgan, and they have played some exceptional cricket in the last 18 months. A hiccup in the last match against Scotland must have been frustrating but the management shouldn't be too worried about that. Sure they know they have a few areas to improve in order to become invincible and that can be put to test today. A mouth-watering contest is in store considering the history these two nations share. The English supporters won't make it easy for the visitors or their respective supporters. Stay tuned for exciting times ahead!
Hello and welcome to the coverage of the game between England and Australia from Kennington Oval, London. This is the first match for Australia after the debacle in South Africa earlier this year. They have revamped the whole squad with the appointment of a new skipper, Tim Paine and new head coach, Justin Langer. Big names are missing from the squad for obvious reasons and new faces have been handed the duties. Australia are looking to rise from 'the Ashes' and turn a new chapter in their history.
End of Over : 44.0ENG: 218/7
Right then, that's all from this match. Australia got outplayed today mainly due to their batting and would like to bounce back strong in the next match. England, on the other hand, would also want to get more clinical with their performance. We look forward to your company on 16th June at 1430 local (1000 GMT) for the second ODI in Cardiff. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!
Moeen Ali bags the Man of the Match award! Says that it's great to win the game and praises all the bowlers. On bowling inside the Powerplay, he replies that you need to understand the mindset of the batsmen. Adds that he concentrated on the line and mixed his pace. Admits it's tough to bowl to batters who sweep well but also feels you always got a chance to pick wickets. Says that he has one format to concentrate at the moment and is happy with the way things are going at the moment.
The English captain, Eoin Morgan is very pleased, especially with his bowlers and feels his spinners turned the game for them. Adds that it's great to see them doing well as a unit. Praises Moeen Ali for his bowling in the Powerplay. Admits that they took the lesson from the loss against Scotland. Feels that the big positive from today is that they were way off the mark with the bat but a couple of partnerships did it for them. On his batting, he replies that it's nice to get some momentum going. On Joe Root, Morgan says that he is a genius, very calm at the crease and is a huge part of their team and English cricket. Wants to improve more with the ball and on the batting front wants more partnerships from his batters.
The Aussie skipper, Tim Paine admits that it was always difficult to defend this total against England who bat really deep. Praises his bowlers for fighting hard. Further says that they lack international experience but have got good white-ball skills. Feels that England played out their spinners better than they played the English spinners. Adds that you win the games when your top 4-5 do the job and they faltered today. Lauds the batting effort of Glenn Maxwell and says that he was hitting the ball well in the nets. Again admits that defending 214 against the number one team was never going to be easy.
Australia lost this game largely due to their batting failure. You cannot fault their bowling at all. In fact, their bowlers should be praised for stretching the game this far and also giving a scare to the English team. Billy Stanlake impressed the most while the debutant, Michael Neser was also decent in his first outing. Overall, as mentioned above, it was a good bowling effort by the visitors but they didn't have enough runs on the board. Had it not been for the Maxwell-Agar partnership, they would not have even posted a score in excess of 150. Stay tuned for the presentation...
An easy win in the end for England! It was supposed to be a straightforward win for them but they chose the tougher route. Their chase started on a wrong note as they lost their top three wickets quite cheaply. Then, Joe Root and Eoin Morgan combined to raise a 115-run stand which almost put the chase to bed. Although Australia tried to claw their way back by forcing a mini-collapse post that partnership, Moeen Ali and David Willey made sure that the hosts didn't lose their way and cross the line safely. A special mention for Willey, who finally showed his worth with the willow and got his best ODI score.

Ashton Agar to Eoin Morgan. Tossed up ball on off, fuller in length, Morgan straightaway brings out the reverse sweep but finds Stanlake at short third man. The tall man does really well to go down low to stop the ball.

Richardson digs in a short ball, angling into the batsman and Bairstow wheels a pull shot and middles it nicely also. But his shot lacks the desired elevation and he ends up finding the only fielder manning the deep region on the leg side with surgical precision. Head moves across a bit to his right from deep square leg, holds his composure and catches the ball with his fingers pointing skywards. Have to say, a good field placement that by Paine. Australia vs England Highlights And Cricket Score 1st Match - ODI Commentary

Just before the 14-run over by Moeen, there was a little drinks break taken by the batsmen. Drinks are on the field. England are the happier side going into the break. They have Australia's top order in the kitty and Moeen Ali is proving too difficult to score runs off. Although some bad shots from the Aussies resulted in their wickets, it's the pressure created by good bowling from the home team's bowlers.

Pitches this one full and around off, Aaron is on the front foot in a flash as he drives it firmly back past the bowler for a boundary down the ground. Now, this is a challenge for Wood.

Kane Richardson to Jonny Bairstow. OUT! Stop the press, Bairstow is gone without hitting a century. Missed out on the chance to equal Sangakkara's record of four consecutive hundreds. Michael Neser to Alex Hales. OUT! Maiden wicket for Neser as he catches Hales right in front of the sticks. Won't say it was a wicket-taking delivery as it was nice and full, easy to be flicked across the line. Hales also thought the same but somehow failed to put bat to ball. Got rapped on the pads, they appealed and umpire Dharmasena raised his finger after thinking for a while. Alex has a chat with his partner before returning to the pavilion. The replays suggest that Alex played down the wrong line and was pretty plumb. Also, Kumar Sangakkara pointed out that it was bowled with a scrambled seam and that confuses the batsmen mostly as they are not sure which way it will move.

It nips back in sharply at 87.3 mph, Roy with unsure footwork ends up remaining back at the crease in an attempt to keep it out. But he is beaten for pace and movement as the ball barges through his defense, takes a big chunk of inside edge and destroys the stumps. Just the kind of beginning the Aussies needed.
