End of Over : 49.3BAN: 261/10
Surprisingly, Iqbal came out to bat with an injury and was an inspiration to many. The last-wicket stand of 32 from 16 between him and Mushfiqur could prove to be the difference. For Sri Lanka, Lasith Malinga was the pick of the bowlers and finished with figures of 10-2-23-4. Dhananjaya de Silva also bowled well to take 2 wickets. So, it is a pretty competitive total on this surface where the ball is holding up on occasions. Can Sri Lanka keep their calm and chase this down? Or will Bangladesh capitalize on the momentum? Join us on the other side of the break.
A rearguard effort from Mohammad Mithun and Mushfiqur Rahim got their side back on track. They stitched a 131-run stand and mixed caution with aggression to perfection. Once the former departed, Bangladesh lost a couple of quick wickets but Rahim went strong from the other end. He was dropped twice, on 10 and 85, and made the most of it. He got good support from the lower order, crossed his hundred and helped to stabilize his team.
An outstanding knock from Mushfiqur Rahim has ensured that Bangladesh coast past the 250-run mark. It didn't look likely at all but the wicket-keeper batsman was in the thick of things. It was a terrible start for the Bangla Tigers though as they lost two wickets for just 1 run on the board. To add salt to the wound, Tamim Iqbal got retired hurt just after that as he took a blow on his left wrist. It seemed like Lasith Malinga would run through the middle order but it wasn't to be.

This isn't a good sign at all, especially with two wickets already down. Mohammad Mithun walks out to the middle. Mushfiqur Rahim will face the hat-trick ball. Two slips and a leg gully in place...

Suranga Lakmal to Tamim Iqbal. Ouch! That will sting. Short ball attacking the body of the batsman, Tamim goes for the pull but is late on it. Ends up getting hit on the gloves as the ball rolls towards short mid-wicket. Seems like he has done some damage to his wrist.

Lasith Malinga to Shakib Al Hasan. OUT! Bowled 'em! The best exponent of bamboozling the batsmen is in the thick of things. Bangladesh have been rocked early and Shakib walks back dejected for a golden duck. Malinga steams in and bowls a full and fast delivery on off. It does a lot in the air as the ball swings back in appreciably. Shakib is late to bring his bat down as he tries to jam it across the line but misses it altogether to get his stumps shattered. The perfect start for Malinga and Sri Lanka this. He will be on a hat-trick in his next over.
Shakib Al Hasan comes out to bat.
0.5W
Lasith Malinga to Liton Das. OUT! Malinga is off and running, what a start for him after a layoff of around 16 months. His team knows the importance of him performing this way and they barge towards him with big smiles on their faces. Coming back to the ball, it is in the avenue of apprehension and after landing, the ball seams away substantially. Das is opened up in his stance and pokes at it. Ends up getting a thick outside edge behind. Kusal Mendis at first slip gets low to his left and takes a fine catch before tumbling down. Das' comeback in the ODI side has been a fruitless one.
0.40
Lasith Malinga to Liton Das. Malinga attacks the stumps with a full length ball and there is some nibble in the air. Das covers the line and stonewalls it.
0.30
Lasith Malinga to Liton Das. Good flow of the bat from Liton! Back of a length and there is some room on offer, Das frees his arms and cuts it straight to the man at point.
0.20
Lasith Malinga to Liton Das. Well bowled! A little bit of shape there. In the corridor of uncertainty around off and the ball swings away appreciably. Das thinks of fishing at it initially but then decides to bail out in the nick of time.
0.11
Lasith Malinga to Tamim Iqbal. Bangladesh and Tamim are away! Malinga starts off with a fullish ball but the line is awry. It is down the leg side and Iqbal clips it nicely towards fine leg for a single.
The players are out for their respective national anthems. After the completion, we are set to get rolling. It is really hot out in the middle and it will be interesting to see how both the sides adapt to the conditions. Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das to open the batting for Bangladesh. Lasith Malinga to steam in with the first new ball. He is making a comeback after a long time and there might be some nerves on display but we all know what a champion he is. A sole slip in place. Here we go...
Sri Lanka skipper, Angelo Mathews, says that they would have liked to bat first as well. Mentions that it might slow down later and there can be some dew but they can't control these things. States that it is really good to have Lasith Malinga back. Adds that he can hand the ball to him at crunch moments and tough circumstances. Wants his players to assess the wicket well. Ends by saying that the heat is terrible but they can't think of these things.
Bangladesh skipper, Mashrafe Mortaza, says that they will bat first. Mentions that it looks like a good wicket. Expects his bowlers to get some purchase later on. States that it is better to bat first, put up a good total and back his spinners to come to the party with the wicket expected to slow down a touch. Ends by saying that Tamim Iqbal and his bowlers did well in the West Indies and hopes they will continue to do so.
TOSS - Bangladesh win the toss and opt to bat.
PITCH REPORT - Ramiz Raja says that the surface looks like a beauty. Mentions that there is no grass on the track and there will be hardly anything for the spinners too. States that it is a belter and the batsmen will enjoy themselves. Adds that there are a few cracks but they won't cause any trouble. Ends by saying that the dew can come into play in the later half of the game but informs that the groundsman feels that it won't be much of a concern.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have a good blend of youth and experience. Lasith Malinga coming back into the squad will boost their confidence by leaps and bounds. Their captain, Angelo Mathews, is in rich vein of form with the bat and will be aiming to lead from the front. Expect a cracker!
Hello and a warm welcome to the coverage of the opening encounter of the Asia Cup between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in Dubai. Six teams will be vying for the coveted trophy and we are in for some edge-of-the-seat contests. The Bangla Tigers have some explosive players in their ranks and will be eager to start off their campaign on a bright note. They haven't won the Asia Cup ever and it is enough motivation for them to go all out.
End of Over : 35.2SL: 124/10
Okay! A not so Super Saturday as Bangladesh crush Sri Lanka in a one-sided affair. We will not promise for a Super Sunday either but definitely hope for one as Hong Kong take on Pakistan in the second game at 1530 local (1130 GMT). Do join us then. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Mushfiqur Rahim IS THE MAN OF THE MATCH for his wonderful century. He limps while taking the award. Credits the almighty for giving him the strength to bat through the heat. Stresses that it was very difficult to run through the wickets but he somehow managed. Adds that he is really happy with this knock as even though Bangladesh won in their previous ODI series in West Indies, he did not do much with the bat. So tonight, he is happy to have contributed to the team's cause.
Victorious Bangladesh skipper, Mashrafe Mortaza, thanks Rahim and Mithun for batting well under pressure. Says that he can say only one thing for Tamim - 'People should remember him.' Hopes his side maintains this momentum in its next game. Admits that the unit can definitely do better - for example, losing wickets in clusters can be avoided and players like Mohammad Mithun should be carrying on to bat deeper once set. He stresses that had Mithun batted longer, 280 could have been achieved. Then thanks the crowd in Bangla, for its unparalleled support. Hopes that the fans will continue to come out in large numbers and get behind them.
Sri Lankan captain, Angelo Mathews, admits that it was a bad effort from the whole team. Rues the fact that they had Bangladesh 3 down for 2 but then they let them off the hook. Credits his opposition though for batting well and laments his own team's effort. On using Malinga upfront, Angelo does not feel that he should be used only at the death. Blames poor shot selection from his batsmen as the reason for the loss. Agrees that there was no rotation of the strike either, especially in the first 10 overs.
It was a complete team effort with the ball by Bangladesh. Skipper Mortaza took 2 wickets while Mustafizur and Mehidy grabbed a couple each as well. Every bowler who bowled got a wicket. THIS IS BANGLADESH'S BIGGEST WIN IN THE ASIA CUP IN TERMS OF RUNS, beating their previous best of 116 against Hong Kong, in Colombo in 2004. Please stay tuned for the presentation if you have come up so far to read...
In reply, when Tharanga hit a six and a four in the first over, it seemed like it is going to be an easy run chase. But once the opening stand was broken, the Bangladeshi bowlers just ran through. We hardly witnessed any fightback and when your number 7 is your highest scorer, that too, with a 29, there is nothing much to write.
The start was brilliant. Comeback man Malinga showed that age is just a number and has no connection with rustiness as he first took two wickets in his first over, then injured Tamim Iqbal to have Bangladesh reeling. However, we then witnessed one of the best fightbacks produced by Bangladesh. They did lose their way towards the end but the moment of the game was Tamim Iqbal coming out to bat with a broken wrist. The momentum took Bangladesh to a competitive 261. Not to mention about Sri Lanka's dropped catches. Had those been taken, Bangladesh might have well folded up inside 150.
What a sad opener for a super-hyped tournament. Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh was touted to be a cracker. Bangladesh not having won a single ODI in the Middle East. The Lankans not having lost even a game to Bangladesh at neutral venues. Well, a damp squib as eventually we were caught asking - 'when will this match end?'
35.2W
Shakib Al Hasan to Amila Aponso. OUT! Dropped, dropped, dropped, dropped but eventually caught. Sri Lanka's misery is over. Bangladesh have thumped them by 137 runs. Flighted outside off, Aponso comes down the track and looks to go over mid on but the ball goes off the toe end of his bat. It loops towards the substitute Nazmul Hossain Shanto who fumbles quite a number of times before finally holding on.

DRINKS BREAK. Didn't think we will get this far. But not that it is hurting Bangladesh much. Unless they have a 1-1-1 scenario where they lose to Afghanistan and Sri Lanka beat the Afghans. Then, the net run-rate might come into play. So, if the Lankans manage to creep upto 200 (yawn), you never know...
End of Over : 327 RunsSL: 112/8

26.10
Shakib Al Hasan to Dilruwan Perera. A huge LBW shout. Shakib thinks he has his man. But the umpire doesn't think so. Dilruwan has come to defend but got an inside edge onto his pads. 'Bat?' asks Shakib to Liton. I am assuming he would have got a yes as an answer.

Problems? Lakmal is down. Cramps? Or did he hurt himself? The physio is having a look. I am not a face reader but Lakmal's anguish suggests that he is not at all comfortable. Okay. He is continuing.

18.40
Mehidy Hasan to Thisara Perera. NOT OUT. Bizarre, bizarre review. The ball has not hit the pad at all. The arm ball, Perera backs away to cut but is cramped for room as he looks to play his shot. Mortaza is convinced that the ball hit the pad, then the bat and goes for a second look. In the first look in the replays, the review is gone.
Okay... Mortaza thinks he has Thisara LBW here. Was that bat first or pad first? Review time...

On a length outside off, nipping back in, Angelo tries to whip it through the leg side but misses and is hit high on the pads. Rubel appeals and the umpire obliges. No review left for Sri Lanka. Would not have mattered anyways. Hawk Eye shows the ball to be clipping the top of middle stump.

Thisara Perera, the last recognized batsman for Sri Lanka, comes out at number 7, replacing Shanaka.
16.1W
Mehidy Hasan to Angelo Mathews. RUN OUT! Dasun Shanaka has been sold a dummy down the river in a desert. The missed catch of Shanaka does not count. Full and outside off, Angelo comes down the track and works it towards short mid-wicket. Calls for a run and Dasun responds. But then, suddenly, Mathews reverses his call and sends Shanaka back. Poor lad (Dasun), he is only looking at the fielder after getting the call from Mathews. Too late to turn and by the time he does, Shakib's throw is already to the bowler who disturbs the bails. Then, he disturbs the bails again. Why? No one knows. Anyways, sad luck for Dasun. Sri Lanka sinking deeper.
DRINKS BREAK. Wonderful period for Bangladesh. They have Sri Lanka on the mat and had that catch of Shanaka been taken, well, they might have had them out of the match as well. Mortaza and Mustafizur rocked the top order while Mehidy chipped in with a wicket as well. 202 needed at almost run-a-ball. Only Thisara Perera to come as the recognized batter. Well, the Lankans have their work cut out, just like their opponents had, in the first innings. Can Mathews do a Rahim?

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Highlights And Cricket Score 1st Match - ODI Commentary

Lasith Malinga to Mohammad Mithun. On a length around off, Mohammad walks down the track and taps it towards mid on for a quick run.

Lasith Malinga to Mohammad Mithun. The batsman works it down the leg side.
Lasith Malinga to Mohammad Mithun. Ooh... that one swung in appreciably. Fullish ball, shaping in sharply. Mithun jams it out towards mid-wicket. Would have been a candidate for an LBW had he missed it.

Suranga Lakmal to Mushfiqur Rahim. In the zone outside off, Rahim leaves it alone.
Lasith Malinga to Mushfiqur Rahim. Taken this time but it doesn't matter! Sharp short ball on off, takes off. Rahim goes for a pull but gets a top edge towards mid on. Mathews there accepts it but it won't reflect in the wickets column. A run is taken.
Lasith Malinga to Mohammad Mithun. Dropped, but a No Ball! A lot of drama is happening at the moment. That was a marginal call for a waist height no ball, could have gone either way but anyways, the catch was not taken. Malinga bowls another high full toss on leg stump but it is dipping. Mithun is surprised a touch and ends up pulling it uppishly towards fine leg. The fielder there runs in, gets his hands to it but the ball pops out, brushes his chest and falls down. To add insult to injury, a Free Hit is coming up...
Lasith Malinga to Mohammad Mithun. Wide! An attempted yorker ends up being a full toss down the leg side. Mithun tries to play it away but has no conviction in doing so and misses.

Lasith Malinga to Mohammad Mithun. The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
Lasith Malinga to Mohammad Mithun. DROPPED! It was a brilliant attempt though. Would have been a gem of a catch had Mathews taken it. Fuller in length on middle and leg, stops a bit on the track perhaps. Mithun closes his bat face early and eventually gets a soft leading edge towards mid on. Angelo charges in and puts in a full length dive, reaches the ball as well. He gets both his hands to it but it doesn't stick. Malinga has his hands on his head.
Lasith Malinga to Mohammad Mithun. In the channel outside off, Mohammad doesn't fiddle with it.

Suranga Lakmal to Mohammad Mithun. Short of a length ball well outside off, Mithun plays it with an angled bat through the backward point region for a single.
Lasith Malinga to Mushfiqur Rahim. On a length on the fifth stump channel, not fiddled with. Malinga is on song, a maiden for him.
Lasith Malinga to Mushfiqur Rahim. A bit fuller in length and pacy as well. Rahim covers the line of the delivery and dead-bats it.
Lasith Malinga to Mushfiqur Rahim. Back of a length delivery and it is moving away after landing. Rahim doesn't fiddle with it.
Lasith Malinga to Mushfiqur Rahim. A better-directed bouncer as it is attacking Mushfiqur. He ducks under it in a jiffy to evade it.
Lasith Malinga to Mushfiqur Rahim. A surprise bouncer from Malinga but the line could have been better. It is outside off and Rahim does nicely to sway away from the line of the ball.
Lasith Malinga to Mushfiqur Rahim. A brilliant ball but he doesn't get his fourth hat-trick. Fullish ball on middle, swinging away sharply, opening Rahim up. He somehow keeps it away off the outer half of the bat.
Lasith Malinga already has three hat-tricks in ODI cricket. No.4 on the way right now? Bad news for Bangladesh - Tamim Iqbal is going off the field.
Suranga Lakmal to Mushfiqur Rahim. Back of a length on the fifth stump channel, Rahim dabs it past the point fielder for a run and gets off the mark.
Suranga Lakmal to Mushfiqur Rahim. Outside off, third leave in a row by Mushfiqur.

Suranga Lakmal to Tamim Iqbal. Good length ball around off, Iqbal places it behind backward point and takes a single.
Suranga Lakmal to bowl with the second new ball from the other end. Meanwhile, Mushfiqur Rahim strides out to bat with his team in early trouble.
Lasith Malinga to Liton Das. Malinga attacks the stumps with a full length ball and there is some nibble in the air. Das covers the line and stonewalls it.
Lasith Malinga to Liton Das. Good flow of the bat from Liton! Back of a length and there is some room on offer, Das frees his arms and cuts it straight to the man at point.
Lasith Malinga to Liton Das. Well bowled! A little bit of shape there. In the corridor of uncertainty around off and the ball swings away appreciably. Das thinks of fishing at it initially but then decides to bail out in the nick of time.

Mustafizur Rahman to Suranga Lakmal. OUT! Suranga Lakmal will not be the team's highest scorer. A length ball, straight, Lakmal looks to work it through the leg side but misses and has his timber shattered. A partnership of 27 comes to a close. Nothing more than giving respect to the total.
