Afghanistan vs West Indies Highlights And Cricket Score 2nd Match - ODI Commentary
Now, then Afghanistan have a task in hand as they look to level the series here. The hosts would want to get off to a flying start from their openers and also would want contributions from each and every member of the team. West Indies, on the other hand, would love to see their bowlers repeat the performance of the first game and take the series in this game itself. Join us for the run chase in a while.
On the bowling front, Afghanistan were superb as their spinners strangulated the hard-hitting West Indies batsmen. Initially, the Afghan bowlers failed to get past the West Indies resistance but once Rashid Khan broke open, the other bowlers also went onto capitalise as they made life difficult for the West Indian batting. Naveen-ul-Haq was wayward in the initial overs but came back strongly in the second half as he bowled a string of slower balls.
So, West Indies manage to get a score close to 250-run mark. After being put into bat, the two openers Shai Hope and Evin Lewis started on a positive note as they put on a 98-run stand for the first wicket. But once Hope departed it was a slow passage of play for the visitors as boundaries dried up and run making became difficult with the slowness of the wicket coming into play. Wickets fell at regular intervals putting pressure on the incoming batsmen. But a handy cameo from Nicholas Pooran ensured that West Indies reach a respectable total.

Pitch Report - Alistair Campbell is down for the pitch report. He mentions that this is a different surface which is being used than the first ODI. Adds that the surface looks very tacky. It was a convincing win for the West Indies in the series opener against Afghanistan. After bundling the Afghans for avery small total, courtesy a brilliant bowling performance from the pacers as well as spinners, Shai Hope and Roston Chase combined for a massive 163-run stand to chase the target down. Now, it's time for game number 2 of the 3-match series. Afghanistan have a lot to ponder while the men from the Caribbean would look to seal the deal in this game itself. Will Afghanistan manage to draw level in this game or will Kieron Pollard's men be able to clinch the ODI series here itself? We will soon find out. Welcome to our coverage for the game. Stay tuned for the toss and team updates soon.
2-0 up then, go the West Indies, with a game to go. Will we expect the bench to play a part in the third game? Or is the fruit of a whitewash too hard to ignore? What can Afghanistan do to avoid a whitewash? Batted first, lost. Bowled first, lost again. Probably, the absence of pressure in the third game might just help them to do well, whatever they do. Join us on Monday, 11th November, 2019 at 2 pm local (0830 GMT) for all The action from the final ODI at this same venue. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
NICHOLAS POORAN HAS BEEN ADJUDGED THE MAN OF THE MATCH for his flamboyant innings. Thanks the almighty for giving him the opportunity to play well here. On his innings, Pooran says that he just stuck to his basics and then concentrated on playing his strokes. Promises that there is definitely more to come from him in future.
Victorious West Indies skipper, Kieron Pollard smiles on the reminder that West Indies have finally won an ODI series after 5 years. Praises his team for sticking to the pans which were laid out when they set foot from the Caribbean. On the pitch, Pollard says that it was on the slower side and they believed it will turn in the evening. Praises the openers for setting up a fine platform though, also admits that there was a collapse in the middle order. Wants to celebrate with the guys and soak in the atmosphere. Stresses that winning is a habit and they would like to keep winning. On the flies while playing, Kieron says that he has never played in such an environment and stresses that health too, is equally important. Hopes that in the final game, there are no such insects.
Afghanistan captain, Rashid Khan, feels that his team started well with the ball in the first 40 overs but then the momentum got snatched away. Praises Pooran for his knock. Although, he says that 248 was chaseable on this wicket, given the line-up that they have. On his bowling plans, in spite of the strong opening stand, Rashid says that the plan was to only keep bowling dots and wait for the batsmen to commit mistakes, which eventually happened, due to the sustained pressure. Lauds Najibullah and Nabi for putting their hands up but laments about his team not finishing off the job, which was the case in the first ODI as well. On the plans to break their losing rut in ODIs, Khan says that the focus only has to be on playing positive cricket and believing in themselves, as he adds that once that happens, they can get back to winning ways.
248 to chase. With dew present. Easy? Should have been. But it wasn't. Afghanistan never got set in this chase and struggled to cope with the slowing track. Only Najibullah Zadran crossed 50 while the next highest scorer was Rahmat with 33. Sheldon Cottrell did the damage with the new ball, keeping the pressure uptight and finishing with 3 wickets overall. But how good was Roston Chase? His 3/30 in 10 overs was what choked Afghanistan and they could not find a way. Hayden Walsh then cleaned up the tail with a 3-fer, which also included the wicket of Nabi (albeit a lucky one). Please stay tuned for the presentation...
2 matches, 2 different types of victories for West Indies. In the first game, Afghanistan were told to be unlucky, because dew hampered them in the second innings. If that was the case, what can be told about this game? Without a doubt, the pitch was difficult to bat on but the Windies batted really well. Hope and Lewis played sensibly, not trying to go too hard and their 98-run opening stand set the platform. There was a collapse thereon but Nicholas Pooran's 67 took the 'visitors' close to 250, which looked to be a competitive total. And by and large, it indeed was.
At last. An ODI series win for West Indies. August 2014 was the last time when the Men from the Caribbean tasted a series victory in this format. Boy, has it been a long time coming.

Ashraf though, thinks there is a single and starts running. Now, he has to return from halfway point. Hayden Walsh charges across from point, gets to the ball and first, thinks of a direct hit. But then, he sees Holder getting back and Pollard backing him up. He now lobs the throw to the former skipper but it is slightly off target. However, Holder still has enough time to collect, turn and whip the bails off. He looks to throw the ball but misses. Ashraf dives in but that would not have saved him had Holder connected. Rashid furiously asks his teammate to at least see and run and not run blindly.

Hayden Walsh to Mohammad Nabi. OUT! LBW! Or shall we say, adjudged LBW? Because Nabi is not happy at all. He is walking off, shaking his head and hitting the ground with his bat in frustration. No reviews in this series, remember. Hard to see how that can be out. 1. It is a leg spinner. 2. Nabi got down and across his stumps and one could see two-and-a-half sticks when he attempted that paddle shot. Which means, that when he attempted the stroke, the impact could have been outside off. 3. Given that it is a leggie, couldn't it have been turning away? West Indies won't care. They are 3 wickets away from winning their first ODI series in 5 years...

A slight delay. Pollard and Holder are into the ears of the umpire and Mohammad Nabi joins in the party as well. They seem to be complaining about the difficult playing conditions with so many wasps, moths and bees around. They are not wrong entirely. But what can the umpires do? Will they stop the game? Because this is not something which will just disappear on its own. They might get the insecticide spray on but they have already done that and it has not been much of a help. The game goes on.
