The first Test match between India and England at Edgbaston will be a historic one for the home side. England will play their 1000th Test match and in doing so they are set to become the first team to achieve the milestone. Since the inaugural Test match against rivals Australia in 1877 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), England apparently have played 999 Tests. England’s win percentage currently stands at 35.73% and have won 357 Test matches so far. England have lost 297 and drawn in 345 Test matches.
Australia with 812 Test matches are second on the list followed by Windies’ 535 and India’s 522. South Africa, New Zealand and Pakistan have played 427, 426 and 415 Test matches respectively. Out of 999 Test matches, England have played 510 games as hosts. At home, England’s win percentage reads 41.76% with 213 victories, 119 defeats, and 178 draws. Joe Root and co will be hoping to dish out a memorable performance in the historic Test.
After the limited-overs series’, India and England lock horns in the five-match Test series. Following the series opener at Birmingham, the two teams will play subsequent matches at London (Lord's), Nottingham, Southampton, and London (The Oval). Meanwhile, India comes into the series as the number one ranked side while England are at fifth place. Even if India lose the five-match series 5-0, there will be no change in India’s ranking and they will continue to occupy the numero uno position.
