Rajasthan Royals batsman registered the first century of Indian Premier League 2019 (IPL 2019) during team’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The right-hander completed his century off just 54 balls. It was Samson’s second IPL century. Samson came into bat at number three and joined his skipper Ajinkya Rahane at fall of Jos Buttler’s wicket. Samson and Rahane took Royals after they lost the first wicket in the fourth over with score reading 15 runs. The duo added 119 runs for the second wicket and set the tone for the high total.

The partnership was broken when Shahbaz Nadeem dismissed Rahane on an individual score of 70 off 49 balls. It was Rahane’s 27th century in IPL. Towards the end, Samson upped the ante and smashed Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 24 runs in the 18th over. Bhuvi proved to be expensive in the last over and gave away 22 runs. He ended with figures of none for 55. Samson ended with 102 off 55 balls and his knock comprised of ten fours and four sixes. Stokes finished unbeaten as well and in nine balls scored 16 runs.

Both Sunrisers and Royals lost their respective opening matches. While SRH lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) handed defeat to RR.
