Sunil Gavaskar yesterday raised questions on the selection committee who raised a question mark over retaining Virat Kohli as the captain of the team after India’s exit from the CWC 2019 after losing to New Zealand in the semi-finals of the tournament. The legendary cricketer labelled selection committee as ‘lame ducks’, and said that there should have been a formal meeting in place before appointing Virat Kohli as the skipper for all the three formats ahead of the India tour of West Indies which begins on August 3, 2019. While many people might have agreed with the statement of the former cricketer, commentator Sanjay Manjrekar disagreed with the legendary cricketer. Sunil Gavaskar Questions Virat Kohli’s Position As Team India Captain Post World Cup Debacle.

According to Manjrekar, India did not put much below-par performance at the CWC 2019 to have sacked Virat Kohli from captaincy. The commentator further added that the loss against West Indies was quite a narrow one and integrity is far more important for a selector. Manjrekar shared his opinion on Twitter. India had only lost a couple of matches out of seven which according to Manjrekar is not a below-par performance. India lost the game against New Zealand by 18 runs and thus could not make way into the finals. Check out the tweet below:

Gavaskar had said, “To the best of our knowledge, his (Kohli's) appointment was till the World Cup. After that, it was incumbent on the selectors to meet even if it was for five minutes for his reappointment.” Team India will play their first T20I against West Indies on August 3, 2019, at the Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium.
