South African women's cricket team captain Dane van Niekerk and all-rounder Marizanne Kapp recently tied the knot. The South African teammates now become the second women's cricket pair after New Zealand's Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu to get married. Kapp took to Instagram and posted a couple of images from the wedding with a ring emoji. Reportedly, the marriage ceremony was attended by most of the South African women’s cricket team players.
Interestingly, as per a report, the duo happens to be the first two girls to join a boys' cricket academy in South Africa. The two cricketers have been teammates at the Sydney Sixers in the Women's Big Bash League as well.
Dane van Niekerk has represented South Africa in one Test, 95 ODIs, and 68 T20Is while the South African women’s captain has featured in one Test, 93 ODIs and 62 T20Is for her side. Both the cricketers made their international debut during the 2009 ICC Women's World Cup. Dane van Niekerk was handed debut against West Indies on March 08 while, Kapp, two days later, made her debut against Australia. Since then both the players have been regular in the team and are known for their all-rounder roles.
Dane van Niekerk has scored 1770 runs in ODIs and has scalped 125 wickets as well. The 25-year-old was named as the 2017-18 CSA Women’s-Cricketer-of-the-Year. She also happens to be South Africa's leading women’s wicket-taker in ODIs. Kapp, on the other hand, has scored 1618 runs and has picked 99 wickets in ODIs.
