Fondly known as Achrekar Sir’s favourite student, Sachin Tendulkar wrote an emotional message, expressing grief. Tendulkar said, “Cricket in heaven will be enriched with the presence of Achrekar sir. Like many of his students, I learnt my ABCD of cricket under Sir’s guidance. His contribution to my life cannot be captured in words. He built the foundation that I stand on.”

Rashmi Dalvi, kin of Ramakant Achrekar, informed that he had passed away due to age-related ailments. Dalvi said, “He (Archrekar Sir) is no more with us. He passed away this evening,” on Wednesday. Remembered for his stupendous coaching and mentoring skills, Ramakant Achrekar was awarded the Dronacharya Award in 1990. In 2010, he was conferred with the country’s highest civilian award in the sports category, i.e. Padma Shri.
