Mumbai Indians after winning the toss elected to bowl first, however, Kolkata Knight Riders had an explosive start to their inning where both their openers Chris Lynn and Shubhman Gill batted well to score 54 and 76 respectively. KKR all-rounder batsman Andre Russell yet again played a crucial role as he scored 80 from 40 balls to help KKR put up a target of 233. Mumbai Indians started their chase on a bad note as their wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock got dismissed in the second over by Sunil Narine. Even Rohit Sharma got dismissed in the 4th over by Harry Gurney. MI was 58/4 in 8.2 overs when Hardik Pandya came out to bat, however, he played with high spirit to score 91 off 34 balls which included 6 boundaries and 9 sixes. However, he did not get any support from other batsmen which ended up Mumbai scoring 198/7 in 20 overs.
