Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has said that Cricket Australia (CA) has taken the right decision by handing a one-year ban to Steve Smith and David Warner after the duo were found involved in the ball-tampering scandal. During day three’s play of the Cape Town Test, Cameron Bancroft was caught on camera rubbing the ball with a yellow substance. Subsequently, after the end of day’s play, Bancroft along with Smith admitted to have tampered with the ball and said it was done after discussion with the “leadership group”. Apart from Smith and Warner, Bancroft was handed a ban as well, but for nine months only.
Tendulkar on Wednesday took to Twitter to express his views on the ban and ball-tampering. “Cricket has been known as a gentleman’s game. It’s a game that I believe should be played in the purest form. Whatever has happened is unfortunate but the right decision has been taken to uphold the integrity of the game. Winning is important but the way you win is more important,” Tendulkar tweeted.
