SA vs BAN Highlights, T20 World Cup 2021: South Africa Defeat Bangladesh To Win Three Matches in a Row
South Africa have won two consecutive matches and with Quinton de Kock back in the team, they are looking a much more strong and confident outfit than Bangladesh, who have been hit hard with the injury of star player Shakib Al Hasan. It remains to be seen how they cope without him.
South Africa win by six wickets and remain seated second on the Group 1 points table. What a win this is! Having bowled out Bangladesh for just 84 runs, the Proteas did lose early wickets but Temba Bavuma ensured that they won it convincingly, with six wickets and 39 balls to spare. This was their third win in a row. Meanwhile, Bangladesh lost their fourth consecutive game in the competition this year and now, they have to play for pride against Australia. That's it from the live blog!
OUT! Bangladesh are just not giving up here and Rassie van der Dussen is the man to depart now. With just five runs needed to win the match, South Africa would aim to secure a win as soon as possible but van der Dussen lost his wicket while attempting to finish off the match. It took a good catch from Shoriful Islam to complete the dismissal.
South Africa are inching very close to a win in this match and it would be a massive confidence booster ahead of their last group stage match against England on Sunday, November 6. After a jittery start, the Proteas have taken control of their run-chase and are now very close to finishing off the game. Bangladesh bowlers did well initially but South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma is steering his side nicely. 18 runs needed of 48 balls now.
Temba Bavuma has looked very good for South Africa here and he holds the key in this run-chase. They are not many runs left to chase and it is a perfect opportunity for him to lead from the front, score some vital runs which would boost his confidence ahead of the England clash this Sunday. South Africa need just 30 runs in 60 balls to win this match.
Although it is not many runs, Bangladesh are trying their best to make a game out of it. They have been in control with the ball and are making run-scoring tough for the Proteas. All they need is one patient and calm innings to win the match as there is not much to chase down. Captain Temba Bavuma is looking good and finding the gaps and they would need him to shine in this contest. 44 runs needed of 72 balls now.
OUT! Aiden Markram, who has looked in good form in the competition so far, has been dismissed for a duck and Taskin Ahmed has struck again. Markram edged a ball to the slips and Mohammad Naim took a good catch. Although they don't have much runs to defend, Bangladesh are giving it their all here. What a contest this is!
OUT! Mahedi Hasan gets a wicket and it is the dangerous Quinton de Kock, who has to depart. After being hit for two fours, Hasan goes through de Kock's defences and bowls him. Bangladesh are picking wickets at the right time but South Africa are still on top with just 57 runs to win.
After hitting a boundary, Reeza Hendricks has been sent back to the pavilion by a pacy delivery from Taskin Ahmed, who seemed to replicate what the Proteas pacers did. Bangladesh have a glimmer of hope, taking a wicket in the very first over and they would aim to have one more in a short time.
OUT! Anrich Nortje strikes again and twice this time, and it has been a collapse to forget for Bangladesh. First, it was Mahedi Hasan and next, Nasum Ahmed and South Africa have bowled out Bangladesh for just 84 runs. Hasan skied out and Nortje took the catch while Ahmed was clean bowled with a straight delivery. South Africa have done excellently well and a big win for them would do a world of good to their net run rate.
OUT! Skipper Temba Bavuma gets into the act now and with a direct hit, he has run out Taskin Ahmed, who was attempting a suicidal run. Bangladesh are all down and need Mahedi Hasan to score some runs so that they get to a decent total here.
OUT! The slide continues for Bangladesh's batting and Shamsi has another. Shamim Hossain, trying to increase the scoring rate goes for the big hit and ends up finding Keshav Maharaj near the boundary. South Africa are calling the shots in this game here.
Bangladesh seem to struggle and despite not losing any wicket, they have not done too much to help the scoreboard. They need to get a move on somehow in the last five overs to get their team to some sort of a respectable total here.
Bangladesh seem to struggle and despite not losing any wicket, they have not done too much to help the scoreboard. They need to get a move on somehow in the last five overs to get their team to some sort of a respectable total here.
OUT! Tabraiz Shamsi, who is the world's highest-ranked spinner in T20Is, takes just three balls to strike and he has removed Litton Das, who was turning out to the cornerstone of this Bangladeshi batting performance. Shamsi's delivery caught Das right in front of the wickets and despite him reviewing it, he had to depart. Bangladesh are reeling and now, they are staring a very low total.
South Africa have absolutely owned the first 10 overs of this game and they are clearly on top to restrict Bangladesh to a score below 100. Atleast, they would aim to do that. The South Africa pacers--Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Dwaine Pretorius have breathed fire and Bangladesh's batting has fallen apart. Only Litton Das is holding forte for his side in the middle and he would be crucial if they have to get to a challenging total.
OUT! Another one falls and Afif Hossain is the man to be sent back. Bangladesh's batting is falling apart here and South Africa are clearly on top. Dwayne Pretorius bowls a straight one, Hossain attempts to play the big shot and ends up losing his wicket. The stumps were absolutely rattled and the Proteas are in complete control!
OUT! Another one bites the dust and it is the skipper Mahmudullah who is dismissed this time. And after Rabada's fiery spell, Anrich Nortje has joined in the party and has got the big fish this time. Bangladesh are all over the place now.
South Africa have clearly owned the powerplay with three big wickets and they have to thank Kagiso Rabada for all three dismissals. The Proteas pacer has breathed fire and has been too hot to handle for Bangladesh batsmen, who look wobbly and under pressure.
OUT! Rabada has got another and Mushfiqur Rahim is the one to be dismissed. It was a length delivery and Rahim edged to slips with Hendricks took his second catch, a clean and good one to send back the former Bangladesh captain. South Africa are all over Bangladesh now.
OUT! One more wicket! Kagiso Rabada has suddenly turned the table for the Proteas. A full ball and Soumya Sarkar, facing his first delivery was caught leg before right before the stumps. The umpire did not give it as out but South Africa reviewed and successfully got another wicket. Mohammad Naim and Soumya Sarkar fall in consecutive deliveries. Proteas on fire!
South Africa and Bangladesh collide in a crucial encounter at the T20 World Cup 2021 in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. This match is important especially keeping in mind the fact that if the Proteas win, they would be very close to ensuring a spot in the semifinals after England already booked their slot in the last four. Temba Bavuma's side have won their last two games after losing the first match to Australia. They have a superior net run rate to Aaron Finch's side and a win is what they would dearly hope for at this stage.
Bangladesh on the other hand, have lost their best player Shakib Al Hasan to injury and that would be a big blow to them, considering the fact that they are yet to win a match in the tournament and are desperately in search of their first two points.
