The Virat Kohli-led IPL franchise had a purse of INR 27.90 Crore going into the IPL 2020 player auctions and Needed 12 players to complete their squad. It meant that the three-time IPL runner-ups could purchase a maximum of 6 players each to fill their domestic and foreign quotas. The Bengaluru based IPL T20 franchise team, which underwent a massive overhaul to their support staff ahead of the IPL 2020 player auctions, released 12 players while also retaining 13 players from the previous IPL season. The Simon Katich and Mike Hesson-led backroom staff of RCB had earlier revealed that would try and few but useful players to the team.
